Testing was to demonstrate compatibility with the following hardware and software. Other combinations of hardware and software are expected to function with this product family, but have not been tested.

2) Since Windows 2000 setup does not allow a FAT32 file system larger than 32GB, multiple partitions will be required with the Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP. The NTFS file system also can be used. 3) Microsoft hot fix Q260233 is required for installations involving Windows 2000 and ULTRA100 ATA. See the Microsoft Website 4) Windows 2000 provides ACPI support. In most situations users can benefit from this feature. However in some systems it may be found necessary to disable ACPI to avoid poor performance, or worst case data corruption due to incorrect shutdown. 5) In situations where multiple Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP drives are being installed within a system enclosure:To maximise performance, care should be taken to ensure that adequate mechanical isolation is provided between the drives, to avoid operational vibration from one drive being transmitted to other drives within the system. 6) Due to the large capacity of some Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP drives the latest BIOS will be required on this controller. 7) Service Pack 1 is required to access full capacity of 180GB model of the Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP. 8) We are unaware of any drivers or upgrades available for large drive support on older Apple systems. Users will need to contact the Apple Support Center to see if an upgrade is available. 9) Supports Hitachis performance enhancing "Tag 'n Seek" Technology.

Master / Slave operation The Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP product family has been tested to the limits of the ATA/ATAPI-6 Specification Master/ Slave timings to ensure compliance and correct functionality with all other ATA/ATAPI-6 compliant devices, in both Master and Slave configurations.
Drive capacity At the time of writing the following utility is being evaluated by Hitachi to allow full access to large examples of the Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP in systems with BIOS that will not normally support drives of this capacity : Disk Manager 2000 / DM9.5x - Kroll Ontrack Inc

Specific notes 1) At the time of testing older releases of Award BIOS do not support hard drives with capacity greater than 33.8GB. A common symptom is a hang condition during System POST. To install a Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP drive that is >30GB will require use of a third party utility (see Drive Capacity section above).
