Intruder alarm system Engineers guide
The Karizma Plus series II is a microprocessor based intruder alarm control system featuring ID - a system of sensing and communicating alarm signals from detectors using 2 or 4 wires. This document is an Engineers Guide to commissioning and programming Karizma Plus. A complete system description and specification is available in the Karizma Plus Engineering Information manual which is available separately.
The Karizma Plus series II meets the requirements of British Standard DD243:2002.
The DD243:2002 demands that a confirmed alarm action can only occur when two separate and independent detectors have been activated within a pre determined time window, for Karizma Plus this is set to 45 minutes. Also the DD243:2002 standard recommends methods of unsetting the system and for Karizma Plus this is achieved by installing a Simple Set Reader in the system.

Karizma Plus
The panel may be mounted anywhere within the protected premises in location convenient for mains supply and access for future maintenance and service. Remove the panel lid and you will find a set of instructions and a spares pack containing a battery lead, spare fuses and covers for the top and bottom cable entry holes.

Karizma Plus PCB terminals
AC The PCB has the following terminal block connectors Connect to the low voltage output (17.5V) of the mains transformer. Connect to a 12V rechargeable battery (up to 6Ah) via the red and black wires supplied. The system is powered from battery is there should be a mains failure. TAMP This is a general purpose closed loop tamper circuit to protect extension speakers etc. When the tamper loop is broken the local alarm will sound in Day mode and full alarm will sound in Set mode. P1 - P4 These are output ports, typically to drive into the input channels of stand alone digital communicators, auto diallers etc. Each output is programmable to operate in one of the following conditions: System Set Group Fault Walktest Engineering OK for Set Entry/Exit Alarm follow Intruder PA Fire Confirmed Alarm Detector isolate iD Point follow +13V Output ports P1 - P4 switch to 0V sinking 30mA. If they are used to drive relays, this terminal may be used as the supply, it is thermally fused at 250mA. This output delivers an audio signal to drive up to 3 x 16 Ohms extension speakers. Fitted at various points throughout the installation each speaker provides high volume alarm tones and low volume entry/exit warning tones. This output is fused at 1A.
These terminals provide a power/hold off supply, trigger and tamper protection for external sirens. T - -ve tamper return A - -ve supply (0V) D - +ve supply (12V) B - -ve sounder trigger The C, NC, NO terminals are single pole change over relay contacts which operate at the same time as the transistorised output, TADB. Powered from adjacent + - supply fused at 1A. An auxiliary 13V supply to power the Karizma plus keypads, PIRs, etc. This output is fused at 1A. These terminals are for connection of the iD sensing line. Up to 30 iD devices or iD products may be connected in parallel across each sensing line. Used for communication data transmission to the Karizma plus keypads. Where more than one keypads are used, C+ Care wired in parallel. a ADE Opus-42 printer. The 4 pin socket by the engineer when programming the system. This red LED is normally lit. It switches Off with mains failure and flashes on keypad communication failure.

Wiring detectors and keypads
All of the detectors in a Karizma Plus are monitored by ID. Magnetic contacts require 2 core cable. Voltage operated detectors such as PIR's and inertia sensors, require 4 core cable (2 cores for iD sensing and 2 core for voltage supply). Where control panel is located near the centre of an installation if may be most convenient to star out from the control panel, with small number of devices on each leg of the star. When the control panel is located at one end of an installation it may be more convenient to run a main length of the cable through the installation and branch off from this to each group of detectors.

iD stands for 'intelligent device' Each iD biscuit has its own internal sensor and an identification number between 1 and 30.The iD biscuit fits inside a detector (like intruder, fire or PA), giving individual identification of alarm and tamper. When using a 7 strand 0.2mm2 cable up to 30 devices may be connected to the cable on up to 100m run. The cable length may be increased if the core is doubled to 0.4mm2. Similarly the cable length maybe increased if less iD biscuit used in the system.

Up to 4 Karizma plus keypads may be used in the system, with each one wired from keypad to keypad or directly back to the panel.

For recognition purpose each keypad has an address between 1 and 4 which is set by configuring the jumper. The jumper is factory configured for address 1.

VOLUME
This jumper controls the backlight of the display. As supplied the jumper is fitted for the backlight to be controlled by the panel. Remove the jumper for the backlight to be On permanently.

External siren and extension speaker connections Do not mix the wiring of iD circuit, extension speaker or external siren within the same multicore cable.
The external siren (bell box) is usually installed in a high position from where the siren could be seen and heard. Up to 3 x 16 Ohms extension speakers may be connected to the LS terminals to provide high and low volume tones.

Mains connection The mains power should be connected using a 3 core cable of not less than 0.75mm2 between the mains connector block at the top of the base and a spur outlet mounted external to the panel case. Menu 1 - Set up iD points
Each iD point must be set up with its type (Security, PA etc) and a number of attributes (Normally Closed, Permit Omit etc). Each point may also be programmed with a name up to 12 characters long, typically the point's location (LOUNGE, DINING ROOM etc). The information below shows how to set up a point type and name in menu 11. An example of setting a Normally Closed attribute is then shown from menu 12.

Menu 2 - Set up programs
This menu sets up the 3 program A, B and C. Programs are basically Part Set routines which can each be set up to have a different Exit Mode, Entry/Exit timers and Reporting type. Security points in each program may have either Final Exit, Entry/Exit inhibit or immediate attributes.

Notes on programming
Exit modes NOT USED Means that the program cannot be used. TIMED EXIT System Sets as the Exit time expires. FINAL DOOR System Sets when the exit door closes. TERMINATED System Sets when a Terminate point is operated. Local Alarm The local Alarm setting controls the operation of the communicator. If Local Alarm is set to 'YES' the communicator will not operate in an alarm condition.

All codes are variable length, 2-6 digits. There is a single Engineer code and 16 user codes. Each of the user codes may be one of 4 types. Normal: A normal code can be used to Set, Unset and Reset the system. Manager: A manager code functions as a normal code but also has authority to change all user codes, omit 24 hour points in Day mode and perform limited tests (bell, sounder, strobe etc). Cleaner: When the system is Set, entering a cleaner code will Unset any point that has been programmed with a cleaner access attribute. Duress: A duress code is used where there is a risk of pressure or force to Unset the system. The duress code will operate in the same way as a normal code but the system will generate a silent PA alarm through the communicator.
NVM COPY facility
The complete system set up, all entry codes and the full event log is stored in a Non Volatile Memory (NVM) chip, marked '24C16' at the top right of the PCB. By placing a second 24C16 chip in the socket marked NVM COPY SOCKET, the content of the main NVM may be copied and retained. Or alternatively you can copy from the chip in the socket to the main NVM, see menu 48/49. This facility has several uses, for example if the PCB has to be replaced, you can copy the main NVM and then write it back to the NVM in the replacement PCB. Alternatively if you wish to use a standard system configuration for you systems then you can write it to the copy chip and programme each new system instantly.

There are 8 flags in the system as listed below. The default setting of the flag is shown in brackets. Normal - this code allows the system to be set, unset, and reset after an alarm. Manager - this code has the same functions as a user code, but in addition the manager code can add or delete all other codes, test the system, view the event log, set the time and date, omit 24Hr points, and set the chime function. Cleaner - special code which unsets only part of the system, providing restricted access only to certain areas of the premises. Duress - a special code which although appearing to work exactly like a standard user code will also cause the signalling device to signal a Personal Attack alarm to the central station. Do not use this code unless you are under threat to set or unset the system.

Secondary functions are actioned when the FUNCTION LED is lit
You operate your intruder alarm system by means of a keypad. Each keypad has numeric keys (0 to 9), ENTER and ERROR. Over each key is a label which describes the secondary function of each key. The key will perform their secondary function when the red FUNCTION indicator is lit.
Always press the Enter key after keying in your code or when making a selection.
Setting the system
Fully Setting the system
When the premises are to completely vacated you should set the full system. First, check that the premises are physically secure - are all windows shut, and all external doors locked ? Key in a normal user code at the keypad nearest the final exit door and press the ENTER key.
Part-Set the System
A part-set allows detection points in part of the protected premises to be set (turned on), while those in other areas are not set. In a domestic installation it is usual for a part-set to be programmed for use at night time. This would allow the detection points around the perimeter of the house (doors, windows, etc), and all downstairs detectors to be enabled, while detectors in the bedrooms and on the stairs are disabled. Karizma+ has 2 different part-set programs called B and C. Check your SIS to see if these programs have been enabled. If they have not been enabled then you will not be able to use them. If a part-set has been enabled you can part-set your system by doing the following: Enter your code at a keypad and press the ENTER key. The system will begin to perform a full-set (setting programme A).
1) Set system?
The exit period will start and the inside sounder will produce the exit sound - a pip-pip-pip sound. The display identify the program that you are setting.
2) View Event Log?
The keypad will display the last event to be logged. In the example here, 145 is the event number (events are numbered 1 to 200), USER RESET is the description of the event.

The bottom line is the time and date that the event was logged. Use the and keys to move through the event log. Press the ERROR key to return to menu 2. Some events have additional information which can be viewed by pressing the ENTER key when the event is displayed.
MENU 3 - Print event log
With the ADE Opus-42 printer connected it is possible to print out the entire event log. With menu 3 on display press the ENTER key.

Karizma+ will start to print the event log, starting with the newest event first. Press ERROR at any time to stop the printer.
MENU 4 - Change User Type and Name
Menu 4 allows you to add, change or delete users from the system. With menu 4 on display press the ENTER key.
MENU 5 - Change User Code
Each user has a 2 to 6 digit code. Menu 5 allows this code to be changed. Use the and keys to select the code to be changed and press the ENTER key.
01 : MANAGER 01:MANAGER MANAGER MANAGER
The keypad now displays the first code from a list of 16. The top line of the display identifies the user, and the bottom line gives the user type. Use the and keys to go to the user to be changed and press the ENTER key.
01:User Code ?
Now key in a code of between 2 and 6 digits, and press the ENTER key. If the code is already in use by another user it will be rejected. Momentarily press the ERROR key to exit the menus.
02:USER 2 NOT USED
The symbol moves onto the second line. Now use the and keys to select the user type (refer to section 3 for a description of the different user types), and press the ENTER key.
MENU 6 - Chime Points
The manager can put any security point on chime. When a chime point is activated keypad will display the name of the point, and the inside sounder will emit a single dee-daa sound and then stop. This is often useful in shops to warn of a customer entering through the shop door, or in a house to warn of a potential intrusion through the back door. Menu 6 allows you to put a point on chime. Select the point using the and keys and press the ENTER key.

The keypad now displays the name associated with the code. The flashing cursor will be at the right of the name. To change the name press the ERROR key several times until the existing name has been deleted and the cursor is at the left of the display. Names are entered one letter at a time by using the numeric keys on the keypad. On each key are either 2 or 3 letters, for example on the 1 key are the letters ABC. To enter the letter C press 1 - a 1 is displayed, press it again and the 1 changes to A, press it again and the A changes to B, press it again and the B changes to C. Now press the ENTER key to register the C and move on to the next letter. Once you have entered the name press the ENTER key again to accept it. Momentarily press the ERROR key to exit the menus.

Use the and keys again to put the point on chime, or remove it from chime, and press the ENTER key again. Momentarily press the ERROR key to exit the menus.
MENU 7 - Omit 24 hour points
A 24H point is armed all of the time, whether the system is set or not. Violating that point will always cause an alarm. The manager can omit a 24H point if it has been programmed as omittable by the engineer. A point which has been omitted cannot cause an alarm. Check your SIS to see if any 24H points are omittable. Menu 7 allows you to omit 24H points. Go to menu 7 and press the ENTER key.
MENU 8 - Set Time and Date
Select menu 8. The keypad displays the current time in 24 hour format, so 1am is 13:00. Key in the correct time and press the ENTER key.

The keypad will give a double beep to indicate that the date has been accepted.
Re-Instating 24 hour Points
To re-instate a 24H point which was previously omitted follow the procedure described above, but change YES to NO.
Point Fault
If the point cannot be re-instated because it is still open the keypad will display an error message. You must close the point and repeat the procedure. Any 24 hour points which have been omitted by the manager will automatically be re-instated when the system is set. It is not possible to omit 24H points when setting the system.
MENU 9 - Walktest
The walktest allows you to check the operation of all of the security points in your system in order to prove that they still work correctly. Your engineer will advise how often you should carry out a walktest. In menu 9 press the ENTER key to start the walktest.
MENU 10 - Test OUTPUTS
Menu 10 allows you to test any of the outputs from the system. It presents you with a list of the outputs which may be tested. To turn on any output press the ENTER key, to turn it off press any key. The following outputs may be tested: BELL, STROBE, SOUNDER (LOW VOL), and SOUNDER (HIGH VOL).

The keypad display will show a * for each point which has been enabled but has not yet been tested. Points which have not been enabled are displayed as dots. The top left of the display represents point 1, the top right is point 15, the bottom left is point 16, the bottom right is point 30. The A in the top left indicates that the points in program A are being tested.

Each time that an enabled point is activated the inside sounder will produce a warble sound, and the display will change to show a 1 in the appropriate position. The inside sounder will stop when all points are clear.

Initially the walktest will allow you to test Security points that are used in program A. To test security points used in programs B or C press either 2 or 3 when the walktest is running to select program B or C respectively. The keypad will display the selected program at the top left. Press 1 to reselect program A. Press ERROR at any time to stop the walktest. Momentarily press the ERROR key to exit the menus.

Optima brand, the Optima RF range of wire-free intruder alarm equipment offers an extremely simple to install and operate intruder alarm system. Optima RF is a five zone system with the facility for up to three detectors per zone and six remote PA / fobs, which will arm, disarm and part set the system. The system uses tri-colour LED indicators to determine which detector has been triggered within a particular zone.

A range of detectors is available, including a movement detector, door and window contact and remote fob / PA. Optima RF utilises the Optima RF RadioViper vibration sensor. As you would expect from ADE, the Class 4 system utilises sophisticated, high security anti-jamming technology, which exceeds the minimum British Standard requirement. All Optima RF equipment operates using 433.92 MHz frequency.
