The T 15+3 cordless drill by FESTOOL compared with 14 other professional machines

Power without limit

Cordless drills must be durable, robust and, at the same time, light. The test editorial board from Werkzeugforum.de tested a total of 15 professional tools for dds also with regard to ergonomics and versatility. The prices of the test tools ranged from 250 to 530 euros.

Performance and durability
One thing is clear after the test: the strength of the cordless drills tested, without any doubt, is in their efficiency and endurance. The average number of Spax screws inserted with one battery charge was well over 500. The testers needed around one hour to complete this. Con-
sidering that the average charging time of the batteries is only around 50 minutes, alternating between only two batteries you can virtually work all day long without a pause. And as for the achievable torque, there is no serious danger of the test tools not being able to meet everyday requirements. The screwing test in plasterboard was designed to show whether this power can be effectively metered. All tools reached their limits in this case and

Inserting as many Spax screws as possible with one battery charge. The best performers were three models with lithium-ion batteries: LDD 1802 PB from Ryobi, followed by the T15+3 Li 2.6 Plus from Festool and the BS 14 X Li from AEG

The screwdriving test in plasterboard was designed to demonstrate the torque control metering capability
included in the case. The scope ranges from the almost novel-length 24 pages provided by Hilti to the concise two to three pages from AEG and Milwaukee. Bosch has an ideal combination of pictures and text and has thus created instructions that have a good chance of being read properly.

Overview of the tools

AEG: A genuine all-rounder with any weaknesses. Ergonomically balanced. Thanks to its attractive price, a real purchase recommendation. Bosch: A well-balanced and light tool. At the bottom end of the performance scale but also the price scale. Can be recommended. Dewalt: Very light and handy. At the bottom end of the performance scale. A genuine weakness is the lack of metering capability in the low torque range.

Good equipment

All tested cordless drills are equipped with a keyless chuck for clockwise and counterclockwise rotation. The tool change is basically possible without the need for other tools. All tools are delivered in a carrying case with spare battery and charger. The Operating Instructions for the cordless drill and the charger as well as the safety instructions are always

Fein: A soundly processed tool. Tilts slightly to the front. In spite of old nikkel-cadmium technology, has good output values. Festool: Thanks to electronic speed limitation, is extremely quiet. Well balanced. Very efficient. Weak point: the changeover switch for clockwise/counterclockwise rotation is too near to the main switch and the setting is occasionally shifted by accident. Nevertheless, purchase recommendation without restriction. Hilti: A real bruiser. In spite of the lowest rated torque, it is the only tool that can screw in the 10/180 mm hexagon screw. Attractive warranty terms. Disadvantages: very loud under load. Gear shift is sluggish. Most expensive tool in the test. Hitachi: Light and small tool. Well equipped. Becomes very hot. Kress: Light, but large tool. Appears clumsy and slightly out of fashion. Good handle for large hands. Value for money. Mafell: Achieves the highest rotational speeds in the test. Carrying case and accessories are first class. Heaviest tool by far with dated NiCd technology. Expensive. Makita: Very solid and well equipped. Only tool with three speeds. Has drilling/ screwdriving selection. Slightly heavy. Tilts forward. Metabo: Solid tool. Good screwdriving output. Slightly chunky. Edged handle
