Installation

Follow the installation instructions carefully. Carry out a first wash without laundry (COTTONS 60, with half the amount of detergent) in order to remove any manufacturing residue from the tub and the drum. Your appliance is provided of a new antiflood device. To make active this feature is needed close the bottom of the machine with the bottom cover that you can find inside the drum. Please read the instructions inserted into bottom cover bag.

Child safety

This appliance is designed to be operated by adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper with the controls or play with the appliance. Pets and children have been known to climb into washing machines. Please check the drum before use. Keep all packaging well away from children. Keep all detergents in a safe place out of childrens reach. When disposing of the appliance, cut off the mains cable, and destroy the plug. Disable the door catch to prevent young children being trapped inside.

During use

Always unplug the appliance and turn off the water tap after use. This appliance is designed for domestic use only. If the machine is used for any other purposes or is not used correctly, the manufacturer accepts no responsibility for any possible damage that might occur. For safety reasons, the appliance must not be modified. Use only detergents suitable for washing machines and follow the manufacturers instructions. Garments which have been in contact with flammable solvents should not be machine washed. Dyes and bleaching agents may only be used if specifically permitted by the manufacturer of these products. We cannot be held liable for any damage.

Disposal

Packaging materials The materials marked with the symbol are recyclable. >PE<=polyethylene >PS<=polystyrene >PP<=polypropylene This means that they can be recycled by disposing of them properly in appropriate collection containers. Machine Use authorised disposal sites for your old appliance. Help to keep your country tidy! Tips for environmental protection

Programme Option buttons

Depending on the programme, different functions can be combined. These must be selected after choosing the desired programme and before depressing the START/PAUSE button. When these buttons are pressed, the corresponding pilot lights come on. When they are pressed again, the pilot lights go out. When an incorrect option is selected, the button light flashes for 2 seconds and in the display the Err message appears.
The machine performs a prewash cycle. The prewash cycle ends with a short spin in programmes for Cotton and Easy cares, and with emptying of the water without spinning for Delicates. This option is not available with the wool programme and cannot be used with STAIN option. For use when washing heavily soiled laundry.
To treat heavily soiled or stained laundry with stain remover (extended main wash with time optimised stain action phase, not selectable for wool or programmes with temperatures lower than 40C). This function cannot be used with PREWASH.
By depressing this button the washing intensity will be reduced. The machine adds one rinse in the programmes for COTTONS and EASY CARES. This option cannot be used with EASY IRON.
By pressing this button the washing time is reduced. For use when washing lightly soiled laundry. This option is not available with wool and economy programme.

START/PAUSE button

This button has two functions: a) Start After having selected the required programme, press this button to start the machine. If you have selected the DELAY TIMER option, the machine starts its hourly countdown. b) Pause To interrupt a programme which is running, press the START/PAUSE button: the information on the display remains lit and the START/PAUSE pilot light starts to flash. To restart the programme from the point at which it was interrupted, press the START/PAUSE button again.

SPIN SPEED

Press this button to reduce the maximum speed of the final speed proposed by the machine for the selected programme or to select RINSE HOLD option. The maximum spin speed for cotton is 1600 rpm, for easy cares, wool and delicates 900 rpm. Important: By depressing the SPIN SPEED and DRYING TIME buttons at the same time the machine will perform an extra rinse (see page 27).
By selecting this option, the last rinse water is not emptied out, to prevent the fabrics from creasing. When the programme has finished, the pilot light END on the programme progress display illuminates, the the pilot light DOOR is red to indicate that the water must be emptied out. To empty out water: select the DRAIN programme to empty out the water without spinning. select the SPIN/DELICATE SPIN programmes for spinning. select the SPIN SPEED and depress the START/PAUSE button; Warning! The programme selector dial must be turned first to O/OFF and then to the DRAIN, SPIN or DELICATE SPIN programmes. The RINSE HOLD option cannot be selected for the automatic WASHING & DRYING programme.

ELECTRONIC DRYING button

EXTRA DRY
CUPBOARD This button enables you to choose the required degree DRY of drying for cottons and synthetics: IRON Extra dry (not for easy cares) DRY - Cupboard dry - Iron dry (not for easy cares) The drying time is automatically adjusted by the machine: the laundry will be dried to the selected degree of dryness.

DRYING TIME button

If you wish to carry out a timed programme instead of an electronic programme push the button until the drying time you want appears in the display according to the fabrics (cotton or easy cares) you have to dry. For COTTON and EASY CARES you can select a drying time from 10 minutes to 130 minutes.

DELAY TIMER button

The wash programme can be delayed from 30, 60, 90 minutes and then 1 hour by 1 hour up to a maximum of 23 hours. The button must be pressed after selecting the programme and before pressing the START/PAUSE button. The figures indicating the delay appear for about 3 seconds in the display. The duration of the selected wash programme is then displayed. After depressing the START/PAUSE button, the machine starts its hourly countdown. To annul the preset delay, press the START/PAUSE button, then press the DELAY TIMER button until the symbol 0 is displayed. Then press the START/PAUSE button again.

Display

The display shows the following information: Duration of the selected programme (in minutes), calculated automatically on the basis of the maximum recommended load for each type of fabric. Selected drying time (max. 130 minutes for cotton and easy cares). After the programme has started, the time remaining is updated every minute.
When the programme has finished, a steadily lit zero is displayed. Delayed start, (23 hours max.) programmed using the special button. The countdown is updated every hour. Alarm code indicating a fault in the machine operation (see page 38).
Programme progress display
By selecting the wash programme, the pilot lights corresponding to the various phases making up the programme come on. After the machine has started, only the running phase pilot light stays on. When the programme has finished, the END pilot light comes on.

WASH RINSE RINSE + SPIN DRYING END OVER DOSING DOOR
When the programme has finished, if the OVER DOSING light comes on, it indicates that too much detergent has been used or that the drain filter is blocked.

Cancelling a programme

To cancel a programme which is running, turn the programme selector dial to the O/OFF position. Warning! After a programme which ends with water in the drum (RINSE HOLD option), turn the selector dial first to O and then to the DRAIN, SPIN or DELICATE SPIN programme.
Altering a programme which is running
To alter a programme, first set the machine to PAUSE by pressing the START/PAUSE button. Any function can be modified before the machine starts it. After selecting the new option press the START/PAUSE button again to re-start the selected programme. To modify the selected programme turn the programme selector dial to O/OFF and then choose a new programme. The water is not emptied out and after pressing the START/PAUSE button again the machine restarts with the newly selected programme.
Opening the door after the programme has started
To open the door set the machine to PAUSE by pressing the START/PAUSE button. The DOOR light on the control panel beside the START/PAUSE button indicates if the door can be opened: green light: the door can be opened; red light: the door cannot be opened; The door can be opened if: the machine is not already heating or drying; the water level is not above the bottom edge of the door; the drum is not turning. If you need to open the door, switch the machine off by turning the selector dial to position O/OFF, and wait about 3 minutes before opening the door (pay attention to the temperature and the level of the water in the tub).
Detergent dispenser drawer
Compartment for prewash or stain remover. The prewash detergent is added at the beginning of the wash programme. The stain remover is added during the STAIN-Action phase in the main wash. Compartment for powder or liquid detergent used for main wash. It is emptied at the beginning of the wash cycle. Compartment for liquid additives (fabric softener, starch). It is emptied at the last rinse. The quantity of additives must not exceed the MAX mark in the drawer.

Before the first wash

Before your first wash, we recommend that you run a cotton cycle at 95C, without any laundry in the machine, to remove any manufacturing residue from the drum and tub. Pour 1/2 a measure of detergent into the dispenser drawer and start the machine.

Preparing the wash cycle

Sorting out and preparing the laundry
Sort out the laundry according to type of fabrics and care labels (see Types of fabric and care labels). Empty pockets. Remove any metal parts (safety pins, clips, etc.). To prevent the laundry from getting damaged and forming bundles, it is advisable to close zips, button up pillowcases and quilt covers and tie up loose straps such as those of aprons. Turn double faced items inside out (sleeping bags, anoraks, etc.) Turn coloured knitted fabrics, woollens and fabrics with trim inside out. Wash small and delicate items (baby socks, tights) inside a laundry net or in a pillow case closed with a zip, or in larger socks. Treat curtains with special care. Remove all metal or plastic hooks or put them in a net or a bag. We decline any responsibility in case of damage. Whites and coloureds must be washed separately: white items can loose their whiteness. New coloured fabrics often have excess dyes; it is advisable to wash them separately for the first time. Wash small and large items together; this improves the washing result and the laundry is better distributed during spinning. Shake out garments before putting them into the machine. Insert each garment separately.

FABRIC CONDITIONERS

These are ideal for improving softness, and also reduce static cling on easy-cares and make ironing easier. They are available in two types: For example Lenor liquid fabric softener, for use in the washing machine/washer dryer. The liquid fabric softener should be poured into the compartment marked with the symbol. Follow the manufacturers dosage instructions and never exceed the MAX level. Bounce conditioning sheets for use in a tumble dryer. We recommend the conditioning sheets are pinned (using a safety pin) to an article of laundry and placed in the tumble dryer. 22
Preparing the drying cycle
As a dryer, the machine works on the condensation principle. Therefore, the water tap must be open and the drain hose must drain water into a sink or into the drain pipe, even during the drying cycle.

Warning: Loads of washed laundry exceeding these values must be divided before being dried, otherwise poor results will be obtained.
Garments not suitable for drying
Particularly delicate items such as synthetic curtains, woollen and silk, garments with metal inserts, nylon stockings, bulky garments such as anoraks, bedcovers, quilts, sleeping bags and duvets must not be machine dried. Garments padded with foam-rubber or materials similar to foamrubber must not be machine dried; they represent a fire hazard. Also, fabrics containing residues of setting lotions or hair sprays, nail solvents or similar solutions must not be machine dried in order to avoid the formation of harmful vapours.
Drying symbols on garment labels
Always look at the garment label to check whether garments can be machine dried. The following symbols refer to drying: Machine drying is usually possible Normal drying (normal temperature) Gentle drying (reduced temperature) Do not machine dry
Duration of the drying cycle
The drying time can vary according to the final spin speed; the required degree of drying (extra dry, cupboard dry or iron dry); the type of laundry; the size of load. The usual drying times for the timed programmes are indicated in the programme chart (pag. 33). As you become more familiar with the appliance, you will discover the drying times that best suit your needs according to the various type of fabric. It is a good idea to make a note of these times.
Modification of the drying time or degree of drying
(just in case of washing + drying) If you wish to modify the drying time or the degree of drying when a drying programme is running, first depress START/PAUSE button to set the machine to PAUSE. After modifying the time or degree, depress START/PAUSE again to continue the programme.

Cleaning and maintenance

After each wash

At the end of the wash programme, pull the dispenser drawer out a little to let it dry. Leave the door ajar to allow air to circulate. If the machine is not used for a prolonged period: Close the water tap and unplug the appliance.

Maintenance Wash

With the use of low temperature washes it is possible to get a build up of residues inside the drum. We recommend that a maintenance wash be performed on a regular basis. To run a maintenance wash: The drum should be empty of laundry. Select the hottest cotton wash programme. Use a normal measure of detergent, must be a powder (such as Ariel Futur).
Periodical cleaning Exterior
Clean the outside of the cabinet with soap and water only. Rinse with clean water and dry. Important: do not use methylated spirits, solvents or similar products to clean the cabinet.
After a while, detergents and fabric softeners leave deposits in the drawer. Clean the drawer, from time to time, by rinsing it under a running tap. To remove the drawer from the machine, press the button in the rear left-hand corner. 35
To facilitate cleaning, the top part of the additive compartment can be removed. Detergent can also accumulate inside the drawer recess: clean it with an old toothbrush. Refit the drawer after cleaning.

Door seal

Regularly check to see, if there are deposits or foreign objects in the rubber seal behind the door and remove them.

Drain pump

The pump should be inspected regularly and particularly if the machine does not empty and/or spin the machine makes an unusual noise during draining due to objects such as safety pins, coins etc. blocking the pump. Proceed as follows: Disconnect the appliance. If necessary wait until the water has cooled down. Open the pump door. Place a container close to the pump to collect any spillage. Release the emergency emptying hose, place it in the container and remove its cap. When no more water comes out, unscrew the pump and remove it. Always keep a rag nearby to dry up spillage of water when removing the pump.

Exclusions

This guarantee does not cover: Damage or calls resulting from transportation, improper use or neglect, the replacement of any light bulbs or removable parts of glass or plastic. Costs incurred for calls to put right an appliance which is improperly installed or calls to appliances outside the United Kingdom. Appliances found to be in use within a commercial environment, plus those which are subject to rental agreements. Products of AEG/ELECTROLUX manufacture which are not marketed by AEG/ELECTROLUX.

European Guarantee

If you should move to another country within Europe then your guarantee moves with you to your new home subject to the following qualifications: The guarantee starts from the date you first purchased your product. Positioning

Install the machine on a flat hard floor. Make sure that air circulation around the machine is not impeded by carpets, rugs etc. Before placing it on small tiles, apply a rubber coating. Never try to correct any unevenness in the floor by putting pieces of wood, cardboard or similar materials under the machine. If it is impossible to avoid positioning the machine next to a gas cooker or coal-burning stove, an insulating panel (85x57 cm) covered with aluminium foil on the side facing the cooker or stove, must be inserted between the two appliances; The machine must not be installed in rooms where the temperature can drop below 0C. The water inlet hose and the drain hose must not be kinked. Please ensure that when the appliance is installed, it is easily accessible for the engineer in the event of a breakdown.

Levelling

Carefully level by screwing the adjustable feet in or out. Never place cardboard, wood or similar materials under the machine to compensate for any unevenness in the floor.
Installation on a suspended floor
Suspended wooden floors are particularly susceptible to vibration. To help prevent vibration we recommend you place a waterproof wood panel, at least 15 mm thick under the appliance, secured to at least 2 floor beams with screws. If possible install the appliance in one of the corners of the room, where the floor is more stable. 51
Water inlet (cold water connection only)
Connect the hose to a tap with a 3/4 thread. Installation should comply with local water authority and building regulations requirements. The inlet hose is provided with a water stop device, which protects against damage caused by water leaks in the hose which A could develop due to natural ageing of the hose. This fault is shown by a red sector in the window A. Should this occur, turn the water tap off and refer to your Service Force P0352 Centre to replace the hose. Set the hose correctly by loosening the ring nut. After positioning the inlet hose, be sure to tighten the ring nut again to prevent leaks. Do not connect to a hot water supply.

Water drainage

This appliance is designed to be permanently plumbed into your home's drainage system using one of the following methods. 1. Into a drainage standpipe. Firstly form a hook in the end of the drain hose using the U piece supplied.

Place the drain hose into your standpipe, which should have an internal diameter of approximately 38mm thus ensuring there is an air break between the drain hose and standpipe.

When discharging into a 3 pin standpipe ensure that the top of the standpipe is no more than 90 cm (35.4'') and no less than 60 cm (23.6'') above floor level. The drain hose may be extended to a maximum of 4 metres. An additional drain hose and joining piece is available from your local Service Force Centre. The joining piece must have an internal diameter of 18 mm. 2. Onto a sink outlet spigot. If the outlet spigot has not been used before, remove any blanking plug that may be in place. Push the drain hose Loop onto the spigot and secure with a clip if required, ensure a loop is formed in the drain hose (see diagram) to prevent waste from the sink entering the washing machine. The drain hose may be extended to a maximum of 4 metres. An additional drain hose and joining piece is available from your local Service Force Centre. The joining piece must have an internal diameter of 18 mm. If you intend the drain hose from the machine to empty into a sink, make sure that the sink is empty and the plug hole is not blocked. Use the plastic U -Piece supplied.

In the interest of the environment
Washing machines and dishwashers should be connected to the FOUL drainage system, the water will then be taken to a sewage works for treatment before being discharged safely into a river. It is essential that these appliances are not connected to the surface water drainage system as this water is discharged directly into a river or stream and may cause pollution. If you fit your own plug, the colours of the wires in the mains lead of your appliance may not correspond with the markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: Connect the green and yellow (earth) wire to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or the earth symbol or coloured green and yellow. Connect the blue (neutral) wire to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. Connect the brown (live) wire to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter L or coloured red. The plug moulded on to the lead incorporates a fuse. For replacement, use a 13 Amp BS1363 fuse. Only ASTA or BSI approved fuses should be used. The plug must not be used if the fuse cover/carrier is lost. The cover/carrier is indicated by the coloured insert at the base of the plug. A replacement cover/carrier must be obtained from your local AEG/ELECTROLUX Service Centre. The power supply cable must be easily accessible after installing the machine.

Permanent connection

In the case of a permanent connection it is necessary that you install a double pole switch between the appliance and the electricity supply (mains), with a minimum gap of 3 mm between the switch contacts and of a type suitable for the required load in compliance with the current electrical regulations. The switch must not break the yellow and green earth cable at any point. This operation should only be performed by a qualified electrician.

Before the first wash

1. Open the detergent drawer. 2. Pour approx. 1 litre of water through the detergent drawer into the washing machine. This closes the water container when the next programme is started and the economy valve can function properly 3. To remove any production-related residues from the drum and water tank, perform the first wash cycle without a load. Programme: COTTONS/LINEN 60, press the TIME SAVER button, add approx. 1/4 measuring cup of detergent.

Preparing and sorting washing
Preparing washing Empty the pockets. Remove foreign bodies (e.g. coins, paper clips, nails, etc.). Do up zips, button up covers to prevent damage to washing. Remove the runners from net curtains or cover them with a net or a bag. Wash delicate and small items in a net/pillowcase, e. g. net curtains, tights, small socks, handkerchiefs, bras. Important: Bras and other items containing wires should only be washed in a net bag. The wires can work loose and damage the appliance. Sorting washing By colour: Wash white and coloured washing separately. Washing can run. By temperature, type of washing and care symbol. Important: Do not wash fabrics with the G care symbol (= do not wash!) in the washing machine.

Running a wash cycle

Opening the door/loading washing
1. Open the door: pull the handle on the door. When the appliance is switched on, the DOOR and START/PAUSE indicators show whether the door can be opened:

2. Separate washing and load it loosely. Mix large and small items. Important: Do not get any washing caught between the door and the rubber seal. 3. Firmly push the door shut. Door catch must audibly click shut.
Adding detergent /conditioner
Important: Only use detergents/conditioners that are suitable for use in household washing machines. Add detergent/conditioner in accordance with the detergent/conditioner manufacturers instructions. Observe instructions on the packaging. The amount of detergent used depends on: the degree of soiling, the load size the hardness of the tap water. If the manufacturer does not make any recommendations with regard to small volumes of washing: For a half-load use a third less, and for a very small load use only the half the amount of detergent that is recommended for a full load.
Water softener should be used from water hardness range 2 (=medium). The amount of detergent used can then always be that as for hardness range 1 (=soft). Your local water company will provide you with information about water hardness in your area. 1. Pull out the detergent drawer as far as it will go. 2. Add the detergent/conditioner. 3. Push the detergent drawer in fully.

Washing powder/tablets for the main wash cycle If you are using water softener and require the right compartment for detergent for the pre-wash cycle, add the water softener on top of the detergent for the main wash cycle in the left compartment. Switching on the appliance/selecting a programme
Set the programme and temperature using the programme selector.
The appliance is switched on by selecting a programme. The programme progress display shows the programme steps that the selected programme will carry out. The estimated programme duration (in minutes) appears in the multi-display.
Changing the spin speed/selecting rinse hold
The washing machine suggests the maximum permitted spin speed suitable for the selected programme. You can reduce this spin speed: To do this, press the Spin/RINSE HOLD button repeatedly until the required indicator is illuminated. The spin speed for the final spin can be changed even during the programme. To do this: 1. Press the START/PAUSE button. 2. Change the spin speed. 3. Press the START/PAUSE button again. RINSE HOLD With RINSE HOLD the washing is left to soak in the final rinse water. No final spin takes place, only the intermediate spin. The intermediate spin depends on the programme and cannot be changed.
Selecting additional programmes
If required, press additional programme button(s). The corresponding indicator will illuminate. If Err flashes in the multi-display, the selected additional programme cannot be used together with the wash programme set.
Two additional rinse cycles are carried out for the programmes ENERGY SAVING, COTTONS/LINEN, DELICATES, EASY-CARES and EASY IRON (for example in cases of over-sensitive skin).

TIME SAVER

Shortened wash programme for lightly soiled items.
Warm pre-wash before the main wash that follows automatically; with intermediate spin for COTTONS/LINEN and EASY-CARES, without intermediate spin for DELICATES.
For heavily soiled or stained washing. Stain removal agent will be rinsed into the wash at the optimum point in the programme. Can only be set for wash temperatures of 40C and upwards as stain removers only become effective at higher temperatures.

SENSITIVE

Increased effectiveness of the rinse due to the additional rinse cycle together with decreased drum movement (gentle on fabrics). Ideal when frequent washes are necessary, for example in cases of oversensitive skin.

Setting the delay timer

Using the DELAY TIMER button you can delay the start of a programme by 30 minutes (30') to a maximum of 23 hours (23h). 1. Select the programme. 2. Press the DELAY TIMER button repeatedly until the desired start delay is shown in the multi-display, e.g. 12h to delay the start of the programme by 12 hours. The DELAY TIMER indicator will illuminate. If the display is showing 23h and you press the button again, the time delay will be cancelled. 0 will appear followed by the length of the wash programme that has been set. 3. To activate the delay timer, press the START/PAUSE button. The time remaining to the start of the programme will be continuously shown (e.g. 12h, 11h, 10h,. 30' etc.).

Starting a programme

1. Check that the tap is turned on. 2. Select a programme. 3. Press the START/PAUSE button. The programme is started, or will start after the delay timer has counted down. If after pressing the START/PAUSE button E40 flashes in the multi-display, the END indicator flashes 4 times and at the same time an acoustic signal sounds 4 times, the door has not been correctly shut. Push the door firmly closed and press the START/PAUSE button again.

Programme sequence

The programme progress display shows the programme step that is currently being carried out. The multi-display shows the estimated time remaining (in minutes) until the end of the programme. The time remaining can increase or stay the same for a while during the course of the cycle as the programme adjusts itself to various conditions (e.g. type of washing and quantity, out of balance spin detection, special rinse cycle, etc.).
Interrupting a programme/adding washing
Interrupting a programme A programme can at any time be interrupted by pressing the START/ PAUSE button and resumed by pressing START/PAUSE again. To cancel a programme before it has ended, turn the programme selector to OFF. Important: Be careful of water in the appliance. Adding washing Washing can be added, as long as the DOOR indicator is illuminated green. 1. Press the START/PAUSE button. The door can be opened. 2. Close the door and press the START/PAUSE button again. The programme will continue.
End of the wash cycle/removing the washing
At the end of the programme, END lights up on the programme progress display. The door can be opened as soon as the DOOR indicator is lit green. 1. Open the loading door and remove the washing. 2. Turn the programme knob to OFF. 3. Close the water valve. 4. After washing, pull out the detergent drawer a little to enable it to dry out. Keep the loading door very slightly open so that the washing machine can air. If RINSE HOLD has been selected: After the rinse hold, END lights up on the programme progress display. The water must first be drained: Either turn the programme knob to OFF, then to DRAIN and press the START/PAUSE button (the water is drained without spinning), or turn the programme knob to OFF and then to SPIN. Change the spin speed if necessary and press the START/PAUSE button (the water is drained and the washing spun).

Overdosing

If the OVERDOSING indicator is illuminated, too much detergent was used in the previous programme. The next time you wash, observe the detergent manufacturers instructions concerning amount of detergent required, and the amount of items you wash in one load.

Child safety device

If the child safety device has been activated, the door can no longer be shut. Activating the child safety device: Use a coin to turn the knob (on the inside of the door) in a clockwise direction as far as it will go.

Remedying small faults yourself
If during use of the appliance one of the following error codes is shown in the multi-display: E10 (Problems with the water inflow), E20 (Problems with the water outflow), E40 (door open), please consult the following table. After the error has been remedied, press the START/PAUSE button. In the event of other errors (E and a number or letter): Switch the appliance off and then on again. Set the programme again. Press the START/PAUSE button. If the error appears again, please contact your local Service Force Centre, stating the error code.

The wash temperature used was too low. A common cause is that conditioner in particular the type in concentrated form - has come in contact with the washing. Wash out such marks as soon as possible and exercise care when using the said conditioner. Foam can still be seen following the final rinse Modern detergents can cause foam to be created even during the final rinse. In spite of this, the washing has been sufficiently rinsed.
There are white residues on the washing What can be seen here are insoluble substances which modern detergents contain. They are not the result of insufficient rinsing. Shake or brush the washing. If possible turn the washing inside out before washing. Check your choice of detergent. Especially with dark colours it is advisable to use liquid detergents.
Carrying out an emergency drain
Warning! Prior to carrying out an emergency drain, switch off the washing machine and remove the power plug from the power point. Warning! The water that comes out of the emergency drain hose may be hot. There is a risk of scalding. Let the water cool before performing an emergency drain! 1. Open the plinth flap and remove it.

2. Remove the emergency drain hose.
3. Place a shallow container underneath it. Then loosen the drain plug by turning it in an anti-clockwise direction and pull it out. 4. The water will run out. If it is necessary to empty the container more than once, seal up the emergency drain hose with the drain plug while you are doing so. When the water has all drained away: 5. Insert the plug firmly into the emergency drain hose and turn it in a clockwise direction until it is firmly in place. 6. Replace the emergency drain hose into the retainer. 7. Insert the plinth flap into place and close it. 22

Drain pump

The drain pump is maintenance-free. It is only necessary to open the pump cover if there is a malfunction and water is no longer being pumped out, e.g. if the pump wheel is blocked. Before loading the machine, please always ensure that there are no foreign bodies present in the pockets or in between the items to be washed. Paper clips, nails, etc. which may find their way into the washing machine along with the washing will remain in the drain pump housing (foreign body trap that protects the pump wheel).
Warning! Before opening the cover of the drain pump, switch off the washing machine and remove the power plug from the power point. 1. First carry out an emergency drain. 2. Place a cloth on the floor in front of the cover of the drain pump. Residual water runs out. 3. Unscrew the pump cover in an anticlockwise direction and remove it.
4. Remove foreign bodies and fluff from the pump housing and from the pump wheel.
5. Check whether the pump wheel right at the back of the pump housing can turn. (If the wheel rotates with a jerky motion, this is normal.) If the pumping wheel cannot be turned, please contact your local Service Force Centre. 6. Insert the pump cover. Insert the guides at the sides of the cover into the guide slots and tighten the cover by turning in a clockwise direction. 7. Close off the emergency drain hose and place it in the retainer. 8. Close the plinth flap. 23

The plastic components are identified by markings, e.g. >PE<, >PS<, etc. Please dispose of the packaging materials in the appropriate container at your local waste disposal facilities. Instead it shall be handed over to the applicable collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment. By ensuring this product is disposed of correctly, you will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health, which could otherwise be caused by inappropriate waste handling of this product. Installation and connection instructions 1 Safety information concerning installation
This washing machine cannot be built-in. Before using for the first time, check the appliance for damage sustained while it was being transported. Do not under any circumstances connect an appliance that is damaged to the mains. In the event of damage to the appliance contact your supplier. Be sure to remove all the components of the transit packaging before using the appliance for the first time. Otherwise when spinning damage may be caused to the appliance or to neighbouring units or furniture. Before using the appliance for the first time, splash protection must be completed. (See Removing transit packaging). Always plug the mains plug into a correctly installed shockproof socket. If hard-wired: hard-wiring to the mains may only be carried out by an a qualified electrician. Prior to using the appliance for the first time, ensure that the rated voltage and current on the rating plate match the mains voltage and current where the appliance is to be installed. The required fuse protection is also to be found on the rating plate. If work on the plumbing is required for the proper connection of the washing machine to the water supply, this must be undertaken by a registered plumber. If work on the electricity supply system is required for the proper connection of the washing machine to the electricity supply, this must be undertaken by a registered electrician. The washing machines mains cable must only be replaced by a Service Force Engineer

Installing the appliance

Transporting the appliance
Warning: The washing machine is very heavy. There is a risk of injury. Exercise care when lifting the appliance. Do not lay the washing machine on its front nor on its right side (as seen from the front). Electrical components may get wet. Never transport the appliance without using the transit packaging. Only remove the transit packaging when the appliance is in its place of installation. Transporting the appliance without the use of the transit packaging can cause damage to the appliance. Never lift the appliance by the door when it is open nor by the plinth. When using a sack trolley to transport the washing machine: Only use the sack trolley on the side of the appliance.
Removing the transit packaging
Important! Be sure to remove all the components of the transit packaging prior to using the appliance for the first time. Keep the transit packaging in a safe place, in case it is needed at a later date when the appliance is to be moved (e.g. moving house). 1. Open the two hose retainers located at the rear of the appliance and remove the hoses and electrical cable.
2. Remove the two hose retainers from the appliance with a strong tug.
3. Remove both plastic caps sideways.
Special spanner A and sealing caps B (2 units) and C (1 unit) come with the appliance. 4. Use special spanner A to remove screw D and the compression spring. 5. Turn sealing cap C upside down as shown in the illustration. 6. Use sealing cap C to cap the hole.
7. Use special spanner A to remove the two screws E. 8. Use special spanner A to remove the four screws F. 9. Remove transit bar G. 10. Screw in the four screws F again. 11. Use sealing caps B to cap the two large holes. Important: Press all sealing caps B (2 items) and C (1 item) in firmly so that they snap into the rear wall.

Where to install

Important! The washing machine must not be operated in a room where there is a danger of frost. There is a risk of frost damage or adverse effect on the perfomance of the machine. Frost damage is not covered under the warranty. The surface on which the appliance is to be installed must be firm and level. Do not install the appliance on carpeted floors or soft floor coverings. The surface on which the appliance is to be installed must be clean and dry and free from grease, so that the appliance does not slide. 28
If the location in which the appliance is to be installed is fitted with small-format tiles, put a rubber mat (available in the shops) under the appliance. If the appliance is to stand on a base: In order for the appliance to be secure on the base, fixing plates*) must be mounted, into which the appliance is inserted.

If the appliance is to stand on a floor which moves, e.g. a suspended wooden floor: Place the appliance in an area as close as possible to a corner of the room. Screw a water-resistant wooden board (at least 15 mm thick) onto at least 2 of the floor joists.
Making the appliance level
The four feet of the appliance are pre-adjusted. Large degrees of unevenness can be compensated for by individually adjusting the height adjustable screw feet. Use the special spanner supplied to do this. Important! Do not use pieces of wood, cardboard or such like to level out unevenness in the floor, but adjust the height adjustable screw feet instead.

Electrical Connection 1

Any electrical work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person. WARNING THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED. The manufacturer declines any liability should these safety measures not be observed. Before switching on, make sure the electricity supply voltage is the same as that indicated on the appliance rating plate. The appliance is supplied with a 13 amp plug fitted. In the event of having to change the fuse in the plug supplied, a 13 amp ASTA approved (BS 1362) fuse must be used. Should the plug need to be replaced for any reason, proceed as described below. The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Green and Yellow: Earth Blue: Neutral Brown: Live The wire coloured green and yellow must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol E or coloured green and yellow. The wire coloured blue must be connected to the terminal N or coloured black. The wire coloured brown must be connected to the terminal marked L or coloured red. Upon completion there must be no cut, or stray strands of wire present and the cord clamp must be secure over the outer sheath. WARNING! A cut off plug inserted into a 13 amp socket is a serious safety (shock) hazard. Ensure that the cut off plug is disposed of safely.

Permanent Connection

In the case of a permanent connection it is necessary that you install a double pole switch between the appliance and the electricity supply (mains), with a minimum gap of 3mm between the switch contacts and of a type suitable for the required load in compliance with the current electrical regulations. The switch must not break the yellow and green earth cable at any point. This appliance complies with the requirements laid out in the EEC Directive 76/899. Voltage 240 V AC: Fuse rating 13amps See rating plate for further information. This appliance meets VDE requirements. Particular regulations of local electricity authorities must be observed. This appliance conforms to EEC Directive No. 82/499/EWG on radio interference. WARNING! Repairs to electrical appliances must only be carried out by trained personnel. Improper repairs may lead to serious risks for the user.

Connecting the appliance to the water supply
Important: This appliance must not be connected to the hot water supply. When connecting the appliance, use only new hose kits. Only connect the appliance to the drinking water supply. Rain water or water for industrial use may only be used if it fulfils the requirements of DIN1986 and DIN1988. Do not kink or crush the water inlet hose or drain hose.

Permitted water pressure

The water pressure must be at least 1 bar (=10N/cm2 =0.1MPa), and may be a maximum of 10bar (=100N/cm2 =1MPa). If more than 10bar: Connect a pressure reduction valve. If less than 1bar: Disconnect the appliance end of the inlet hose from the solenoid inlet valve and remove the flow meter. (In addition remove the filter using pointed pliers and take out the rubber gasket behind it.) Replace the filter. 31

Water inlet

A 1.35m long pressure hose is supplied with the appliance. If a longer inlet hose is required, only hoses from the manufacturer are to be used. Your local Service Force stocks hose kits of different lengths. Sealing rings are either inserted in the plastic nuts of the threaded hose fitting or are included as spare parts. Do not use any other sealing rings. Important! All threaded hose fittings must only be tightened by hand. 1. Connect the hose with the right-angle connector to the machine. Important! Do not position the inlet hose vertically downwards. Position it to the right or the left as shown in the illustration.
2. Connect the hose with the straight connector to a water tap with an R (inch) screw thread. 3. Slowly turn on the tap and check that all connections are watertight.

Water Drainage

The appliance drain hose should hook into a standpipe, the hook in the drain hose is formed using the plastic U-Piece supplied. The standpipe should have an internal diameter of approximately 38 mm (see diagram) thus ensuring there is an air break between the drain hose and standpipe. Important! It is essential to lay the drainage hose without kinks. When discharging into a standpipe ensure that the top of the curve in the hose end is no more than 90 cm (35.4) and no less than 60 cm (23.6) above floor level.
