Who says that you have to compromise for a sporty look? The two comfortable rear seats leave nothing to be desired. Rear ventilation is available as an option, for added comfort (only in conjunction with the optional automatic air conditioning). A special design element that emphasises the four-seater character of the BMW Series Coup is the continuous centre console. Its upper surface doubles as a comfortable armrest. So whether you are the driver, front passenger or a rear passenger: in the BMW Series Coup, you will always feel like you have the best seat in the house.

INDIVIDUAL REAR SEATS offer perfect lateral support and lots of headroom thanks to their low seating position for supreme comfort on the rear seats. If required, the rear centre console can optionally be tted with additional air vents and footwell lights. ELECTRIC SEATBELT HANDOVER moves the seatbelts from the B-pillar to within the drivers and front passengers reach when the key is in the ignition and the doors have been closed. ACTIVE HEADRESTS minimise the risk of injury to the neck vertebrae in the event of a rear-end collision. FOLDABLE STORAGE COMPARTMENTS in the door trims afford plentiful storage space. The compartments have three subdivisions. Their contents cannot be seen from outside. SPORT LEATHER STEERING WHEEL with multifunction buttons enables operation of the radio and telephone without having to take ones hands off the wheel. The steering wheel features a very ergonomic design for perfect grip. In creating the interior design for the BMW Series Coup, an important goal was to achieve ideal ergonomics and a perfect look and feel, to make the interior a place that the driver and passengers really enjoy spending time in. Which is why the sophisticated interior equipment delights both the eye and the touch. A special treatment process ensures that the leather remains soft and supple, while at the same time being extremely durable. By the way, on a BMW seat, the leather is not fully stretched, but retains a little give. It is gathered rather than pulled tight. This makes it more pleasant to the touch. Leather needs a little bit of play in order for its nest qualities to come to the fore. The manmade materials used in the interior are of a particularly high quality as well. With their embossing, grain and coating,
it is almost as though they caress the skin whenever one touches them. The wood trims use wood from sustainable plantations. Their fascinating grain makes every piece an original, as unique as a persons ngerprint. These are just three examples of the care, perfection and eye for detail that have gone into designing the interior of the BMW Series Coup. Many other examples could be added to the list. The diesel engines. All the BMW Series Coup diesel models impress with their refined power and superlative efficiency. State-of-the-art Common Rail technology combines smooth running and efficiency with immediate response and tremendous revving ability. All available variants feature a lightweight aluminium design and come with a maintenance-free particle filter as standard. You have a choice between three six-cylinder in-line engines and one four-cylinder model.

Airbags. In a BMW, airbags and other safety features complement each other perfectly. Six airbags offer specic protection: the driver and front passenger airbags, the front-torear head airbags, and the front side airbags.

Convenience.

On long journeys, I dont always want to have to look at the speedometer. Not a problem with Active Cruise Control.
Comfort Access, including exterior door handle illumination. This system allows you to unlock, lock and start your BMW without inserting the key. All you need is the remote control, which transmits an identication signal to the car, in your pocket. Simply touch the door handle or boot lid and the BMW unlocks or locks as required. Similarly, a touch of the Start/Stop button is all it takes to start the engine.
Active cruise control. This option enables comfortable driving at a pre-selected speed. When driving in columns of trafc, your BMW automatically adapts to the speed of the preceding vehicle and uses its radar sensor to maintain a pre-set distance. The braking function ensures that the desired speed is maintained even when travelling downhill (not for four-cylinder models).
The IT revolution has changed the way we live. For BMW drivers, it has become normal to view their vehicle as another networked component of their lives they expect to be able to access information on the go, communicate via phone or e-mail, and keep up with the latest news. Infotainment. I used to have to stay late at the office. Today, I just take it along with me. Using the BMW ConnectedDrive Office function.
Safety. When I drive at night, this assistant really brightens things up: the BMW High-beam assistant.
Bluetooth interface with added functionality (Bluetooth Ofce). Use the time you spend on the road even more effectively! Thanks to the optional mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface in conjunction with a navigation system and the intelligent integration of selected business mobile phones, you can use the Bluetooth connection to show Ofce functions such as e-mails, dates, tasks or SMS messages on the Control Display while on the move, or have them read out aloud to you via the audio speakers, using the text-to-speech function. And thanks to Bluetooth Audio Streaming, wireless playback of music via selected Bluetooth-enabled devices is not a problem. USB/audio interface with extended functions. In combination with the optional USB/audio interface and the original iPod USB cable, your BMW is able to display the album cover for the currently played title in the Control Display. This Cover Art display adds the cover for any song and album, for fast and convenient reference (function also available for other music devices). The USB/audio interface also makes it easy to update a part of the vehicle software in your BMW via a USB stick. This provides access to the complete range of functions supported by new mobile phone and music player models.
High-beam assistant. The optional High-beam assistant recognises light sources in the cars environment and switches the high beam on and off, according to the trafc situation. When the system is active, an image sensor at the back of the interior mirror monitors the trafc and lighting conditions. Based on these sensor images, the assistant decides whether or not the high beam should be switched on. When it detects vehicles ahead, or nds that ambient light is sufcient, the high beam is switched off again.
BMW Connected. For the rst time, you can now use apps in your BMW. With the optional Apps feature, an iPhone and the free BMW Connected App from the Apple App Store, youre no longer limited to listening to local radio. Using the iDrive system, you can select web radio stations from around the world. You can also call up the latest status reports from your Facebook or Twitter accounts on the Control Display. And thats just the beginning, more functions and apps will follow in the future.

:: MEETING IN THE GREEN HELL.
Loved, hated, feared the Nrburgring Nordschleife never fails to elicit a response. We joined touring car champion Andy Priaulx for a drive on this legendary track in the BMW Series Coup. Despite his three world championship titles (WTCC), Andy Priaulx approaches the Nordschleife with a lot of respect. Jackie Stewart once referred to it as Green Hell, the trees along its track coalescing to form a continuous green blur. In Priaulx won the -hour race in the BMW M GTR, as part of a team of four. Each time I am here, the Nordschleife presents a different aspect: hot, wet, foggy or snowy but never boring. Winning here really means something. Not having any racing experience, sitting next to Andy Priaulx in a i Coup feels like sitting in a real race car. During the twisting Hatzenbach descent, the British driver speaks of the special virtues that each BMW possesses. Driving any BMW is a very special feeling. The balanced weight distribution makes the vehicle very poised, and the steering tells me exactly what the car is doing at any given time. Even sitting on the passenger seat you can tell that Andy Priaulx and the BMW Series Coup feel very at home here. The vehicle has the Nrburgring in its genes, so to speak. Since the mid-s, BMW engineers have tested every new model here prior to the start of production. The challenging race track reveals both the sporting prowess and the durability of many parts. BMW was the rst manufacturer to establish its own test centre here in. Although Andy Priaulx usually drives a touring car powered by a high-revving four-cylinder racing engine, he clearly enjoys the BMW TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line petrol unit in the i Coup. On the long ascent to the Bergwerk section and the Hohe Acht, you need every one of the hp. No matter which BMW engine you prefer, its combination of power and efciency guarantees driving pleasure without a bad conscience. Although the supercharged six-cylinder in-line engine has the same power output as its predecessor, BMW engineers have managed to lower its average fuel consumption by up to. litres per km. In the twisting bends around the famous Karussell, Priaulx praises the feeling of safety and condence that the BMW Series Coup inspires in the driver. This applies to the slower, technical passages as much as to the top-speed sections, such as the long nishing straight at Dttinger Hhe. The BMW Series Coup and its driver would clearly like to add another lap, but as a passenger, you quickly reach your limit at this kind of speed. Of course, Priaulxs enthusiasm for the BMW Series Coup and the Nordschleife is infectious. For a small fee, anyone can do a lap here.

Standard/optional equipment.
Ornamental front kidney grille with special surround and kidney grille slats in chrome. All four-cylinder models have the kidney grille slats in black.
Xenon Headlights for low and high beam, including four light rings used as daytime running lights, headlight washing system and automatic headlight range control, provide optimum illumination of the road ahead at night and in poor visibility. LED light elements include light rings providing white light, indicators, accent lights and side marker lights for the headlights. Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribution, incl. cornering lights, provide better illumination of the road ahead when the car enters a bend. The cornering lights are used in tight corners, at speeds up to km/h, and when indicating. They are automatically activated if the automatic driving lights control is switched on. A variable headlight range control system provides additional support in towns and on motorways. BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line has the following features in high-gloss Black: window frames, mirror base and mirror frame (shown here). Chrome Line Exterior for window frames (for four-cylinder models).
Interior mirror with automatic anti-glare function, improves safety and comfort when driving at night. The mirrors reflexivity is automatically adjusted in line with the amount of incoming light from following vehicles. This improves rearview visibility and takes away the eye strain from excess glare, enabling drivers to concentrate better at night. Interior and exterior mirrors with automatic anti-glare, exterior mirrors with fold-in function.
High-beam assistant supports the driver at night by automatically switching to low beam when there is oncoming traffic or another car ahead, or when the road is sufficiently illuminated.
Rain sensor with automatic driving lights control: once activated, the rain sensor will automatically switch on the windscreen wipers when it begins to rain, adjusting wiper frequency in line with rainfall intensity. The automatic driving lights control will switch on the low beam automatically at dusk and in tunnels.

Start/Stop button for starting the engine. After inserting your ignition key, you can start and stop the engine by pressing this button.
Cruise Control (with additional braking function for the six-cylinder models) stores any desired speed upwards of approx. km/h, shows it on the Info Display and maintains it. After accelerating, the system automatically returns to the previously stored speed. Braking deactivates this function.
Active Cruise Control enables comfortable driving at a pre-selected speed. When driving in columns of traffic, your BMW automatically adapts to the speed of the preceding vehicle and maintains a previously selected distance. In addition, the braking function ensures that the desired speed is not surpassed even when driving downhill (not available for the four-cylinder models).

On-board computer displays information about average speed and fuel consumption, current consumption and range.

Park Distance Control (PDC), front and rear or rear only, facilitates parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces. A warning signal is triggered when the car approaches an obstacle. In conjunction with the navigation system*, PDC will also provide a visual indication on the Control Display.
Auxiliary heating with remote control ideal in winter and on cold days. When you get into your car, the windows are already free of ice and the interior is cosy and warm.
Air conditioning system, incl. microfilter and air recirculation switch, ensures comfortable climatic conditions in the vehicle interior at any time of the year; with manual adjustment of air volume and distribution.

Gears can be selected manually via Steptronic by moving the selector lever backwards or forwards without having to press a clutch pedal. The design of the BMW Series Convertible makes every heart beat faster. The eye is drawn to the front and rear aprons, the double headlights with LED elements (optional), the side skirts and the typical BMW kidney grille. The entire vehicle simply radiates joy. Its retractable hardtop ensures absolute year-round usability. With the top down, you can enjoy the exhilarating feeling of having nothing but the sky above you. Its looks give an indication of the driving pleasure that the BMW Series Convertible will bring to your life. On the road, it delivers that promise.

The luggage compartment of the BMW Series Convertible holds a lot of cargo. With the roof up or down, golfers, skiing enthusiasts and holidaymakers are in for a pleasant surprise.
When a BMW Series Convertible lifts its roof by the side of the road, it often attracts interest from passers-by. The sophisticated choreography of the three retractable roof panels is considered a remarkable feat of engineering. Once the entire roof of the Convertible is tucked away, many observers assume that the luggage compartment is now full. But what makes the threepanel BMW roof so special is its space-saving storage. Below the roof remains a luggage space which can accommodate board cases or a cm long and cm high suitcase. In conjunction with the optional through-loading system, there is enough space here for a golf bag, skis or a snowboard. The comfort loading and unloading function (shown below) makes loading easier when the roof is down.

With the roof closed, the BMW Series Convertible becomes a full-sized touring vehicle for two people and a generous amount of luggage. In any case, folding down the rear seat backrest provides additional space below the wind deector. This can be lled with an optional tailor-made suitcase set from the BMW Accessories range (opposite page, bottom right).

Convenience.

On long journeys, I dont always want to have to look at the speedometer. Not a problem with Active Cruise Control.
Comfort Access, including exterior door handle illumination. This system allows you to unlock, lock and start your BMW without inserting the key. All you need is the remote control, which transmits an identication signal to the car, in your pocket. Simply touch the door handle or boot lid and the BMW unlocks or locks as required. Similarly, a touch of the Start/Stop button is all it takes to start the engine.
Active cruise control. This option enables comfortable driving at a pre-selected speed. When driving in columns of trafc, your BMW automatically adapts to the speed of the preceding vehicle and uses its radar sensor to maintain a pre-set distance. The braking function ensures that the desired speed is maintained even when travelling downhill (not for four-cylinder models).
The IT revolution has changed the way we live. For BMW drivers, it has become normal to view their vehicle as another networked component of their lives they expect to be able to access information on the go, communicate via phone or e-mail, and keep up with the latest news. therefore comprises all packages and innovative technologies that enable the networking of BMW vehicles and their occupants with the outside world, including the immediate trafc environment. BMW ConnectedDrive innovations optionally enhance convenience, infotainment and safety.
Infotainment. I used to have to stay late at the ofce. Today, I just take it along with me. Using the BMW ConnectedDrive Ofce function.
Safety. When I drive at night, this assistant really brightens things up: the BMW High-beam assistant.
Bluetooth interface with added functionality (Bluetooth Ofce). Use the time you spend on the road even more effectively! Thanks to the optional mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface in conjunction with a navigation system and the intelligent integration of selected business mobile phones, you can use the Bluetooth connection to show Ofce functions such as e-mails, dates, tasks or SMS messages on the Control Display while on the move, or have them read out aloud to you via the audio speakers, using the text-to-speech function. And thanks to Bluetooth Audio Streaming, wireless playback of music via selected Bluetooth-enabled devices is not a problem. USB/audio interface with extended functions. In combination with the optional USB/audio interface and the original iPod USB cable, your BMW is able to display the album cover for the currently played title in the Control Display. This Cover Art display adds the cover for any song and album, for fast and convenient reference (function also available for other music devices). The USB/audio interface also makes it easy to update a part of the vehicle software in your BMW via a USB stick. This provides access to the complete range of functions supported by new mobile phone and music player models.

Adaptive Headlights. Dynamic swivelling technology ensures that the headlights always follow the layout of the road ahead. Cornering lights integrated in the main headlights illuminate tight corners and hairpin bends. Compared to conventional xed headlights, drivers can see up to per cent more in corners.

Standard/optional equipment.
Wind deflector enables the enjoyment of open-top driving without annoying draughts and turbulences in the head and shoulder area. To place items on the rear seats and remove them again, the wind deflector can simply be folded up. When not needed, it can be collapsed and stored in a protective cover in the luggage compartment.
Comfort loading and unloading function facilitates access to the boot with the roof down. Prompted by the remote control, the roof moves out of the way. The luggage compartment opens, and with the cover manually folded up, the maximum boot opening becomes available. The benefit: convenient loading, without having to close the retractable hardtop completely.
Rear centre console provides added comfort for rear passengers, with an oddments compartment with roller-blind closure, as well as another, smaller compartment. In conjunction with the optional storage compartment package, the rear centre console also includes two cup holders (shown here).
Through-loading system with transport bag, opening increases to x cm with the backrest folded down. The variable-length transport bag also allows transportation of longer items without having to fold down the rear backrest.

Ornamental front grille with surround and kidney grille slats in Chrome. All four-cylinder models have the kidney grille slats in black.
Xenon Headlights for low and high beam, including four light rings used as daytime running lights, headlight washing system and automatic headlight range control, provide optimum illumination of the road ahead at night and in poor visibility. LED light elements include light rings providing white light, indicators, accent lights and side marker lights for the headlights. Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribution, incl. cornering lights, provide better illumination of the road ahead when the car enters a bend. The cornering lights are used in tight corners, at speeds up to km/h, and when indicating. They are automatically activated if the automatic driving lights control is switched on. A variable headlight range control system provides additional support in towns and on motorways.
Retractable hardtop, opens quickly and automatically including the windows upon pressing a button in the centre console. Ensures all-year-round usability, improved theft and damage protection, and provides excellent soundproofing even at high speeds. Chrome Line Exterior for the window frames (shown here).

Comfort access system, incl. vicinity lighting integrated into the exterior door handles. Enables opening, starting and locking your BMW without a key. You only need to have the remote control on you, e.g. in your jacket pocket. Touching the exterior door handles or the tailgate establishes a radio connection between the vehicle and the remote control unit, and the central locking opens the car upon successful verification of identity. In addition, the engine can be started without the need for a key, using the Start/Stop button. The comfort access system also allows you to close the hardtop from outside, via remote control.

Central switch for automatic opening and closing of the retractable hardtop, including the windows. It takes about seconds for the roof to open.
Start/Stop button for starting the engine. After inserting your ignition key, you can start and stop the engine by pressing this button.
Interior mirror with automatic antiglare function. The mirrors reflexivity is automatically adjusted in line with the amount of incoming light from following vehicles. This improves rearview visibility and takes away the eye strain from excess glare, enabling drivers to concentrate better at night.
Preparation for mobile phone with Bluetooth interface, including hands-free equipment. Apps* enable the integration of iPhone applications. This includes access to services such as Facebook, Twitter and Internet radio (for further information on this equipment option see page ).
Armrest at the front, folding, with integrated storage compartment. Armrest at the front, divided into two separate parts. The drivers armrest can be adjusted forwards or backwards without reducing the volume of the integrated storage compartment (shown here).

-speed automatic transmission Steptronic uses Adaptive Transmission Management (ATM) to adjust to the drivers requirements. The best possible gear is selected according to the driving situation and the drivers acceleration and braking behaviour. The S sport mode allows for a sporty driving style. Gears can be selected manually via Steptronic by moving the selector lever backwards or forwards without having to press a clutch pedal (not for i and i).
-speed manual transmission for a very sporty drive. Smooth, with perfect ratios and precise, short-throw gearshifts. The reduced spacing of gear ratios means that you can make even more individual use of the engines power.
-speed sport automatic transmission with double clutch and gearshift paddles on the steering wheel for exceptionally fast gear changes without interruption of power, ensuring top dynamic performance and optimised fuel efficiency (available for the i).

Harman Kardon Surround Sound System (multichannel-capable) provides truly outstanding sound. W output power, eleven loudspeakers and the surround function create a luxurious soundscape all around you.
BMW Individual High-End Audio System features W of output power and twelve high-end speakers to create a listening experience that is on a par with a live concert. It includes a digital -channel amplifier and a digital sound processor (available for the six-cylinder models).
