The Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS)-1 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) is part of a new breed of photonic-switching platforms for the next generation of metro wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), implementing Zero-Touch Photonics. This implementation transforms traditional WDM networking into a fully flexible transport layer, with complete optical-layer visibility at an individual wavelength level, simplifying service delivery, speeding time to revenue generation and facilitating bandwidth expansion in metro networks for new broadband services.
The Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS-1 (GE) supports GE multiplexing and transport-delivery services in a variety of environments and applications: Campus networks for data-center protection or data sharing for public and private companies, such as universities, hospitals, banks and airports Multicampus networks enabling long-distance cooperation among public and private companies and optimize leased dark fiber Metropolitan or national research networks to share IP; can be combined with the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS-32 to extend these networks to regional distances Broadband transport networks for telecommunications operators and enterprises operating as Telcos to provide high-bandwidth connectivity over long distances Core and metro network extension to provide the optimal amount of bandwidth to the customer premises through cost-effective, any WDM (xWDM) technology
