Upgrading an AT-8200XL Series Switch to AT-S24 Version 3.0.0 Perform the following procedure to install the AT-S24 Version 3.0.0 management software on the switch from a local management session. These instructions can also be found in the AT-S24 Management Software Users Guide. (You can also use TFTP to upgrade the switchs software. For instructions, refer to the Users Guide.) Note: You do not need to perform this procedure if your AT-8200 Series switch came with these software release notes. The switch already contains the latest AT-S24 software. 1. Attach a terminal to the RS232 port on the switch. 2. Press the Reset button on the right side of the switchs front panel. 3. Immediately press any key when you see the following prompt: Hit any key to run diagnostics or to reload system software. The ATI Diagnostics menu is displayed. Note: The default speed of the switchs terminal port is 9600 bps. If desired, you can use the Z Change Terminal Speed option in the menu to increase the speed of the port and the download. You must remember to change the speed of your terminal or terminal emulation program if you change the switchs terminal port speed. 4. Enter X to select XModem software update to this system. The following prompt is displayed. The system host is now ready for download. Please start your XModem transfer.
5. Begin the file transfer of the new management software image. The transfer protocol must be Xmodem or 1K XModem. Steps 7 through 10 illustrate how to transfer the file using the Hilgraeve HyperTerminal program. 6. From the HyperTerminal main window, select the Transfer menu. Then select Send File from the pull-down menu, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1 Local Management Window The Send File window in Figure 2 is displayed.
Figure 2 Send File Window 7. Click the Browse button and specify the location and filename of the new AT-S24 software image. 8. Click the Protocol field and select 1K Xmodem or, if your terminal does not support 1K Xmodem, then Xmodem as the transfer protocol. 9. Click Send. The software immediately begins to download onto the switch. The download process takes a couple minutes to complete. The switch begins to initialize the software after it is installed, a process that takes approximately 1 minute to complete. Once the management software is initialized, the switch automatically resets. Do not interrupt the initialization process. Do not reboot the switch.
New AT-S24 Version 3.0.0 Resolved Issues IGMP Control Packets When forwarding an IGMP control packet with a priority tag, the switch would change the tag to zero (0) before sending the packet out. This issue has been resolved. IP Header Length The switch would stop forwarding traffic if it received a packet whose IP Header Length was shorter than 5 (20 Octet). This issue has been resolved. STP Port Cost The default STP port cost for gigabit ports was 10 instead of 4. This issue has been resolved. SNMP RMON Undersized, Oversized and Fragment Counters The SNMP RMON undersized, oversized and fragment counters were not displayed in previous software versions. They are displayed in this version. 100Base-FX Ports The management configuration screen for an 100Base-FX port for an expansion module, such as the AT-A16, AT-A17 and AT-A19, erroneously contained options for configuring the port to 10BaseT and to Auto-Negotiate speed and duplex mode. These configuration options have been removed for 100Base-FX ports. - IGMP and Multicast Addresses Static multicast address were deleted from the MAC address table whenever the switch was reset or power cycled, if IGMP was enabled. This issue has been resolved. BOOTP The management software now supports BOOTP, in addition to DHCP. Operational Notes Web Browser User Name and Password The web browser interface prompts you for both a user name and a password whenever you start a web browser management session, if you assigned a password to Omega. The user name is admin. The user name cannot be changed. Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and Port Trunking Do not activate STP on ports that will be part of a port trunk. You should check to be sure that STP has been disabled on the ports before you create a port trunk.
Link Up and Link Down Traps The switch software sends two Link Up or Link Down traps whenever a cable is connected or disconnected from a port trunk. The extra trap does not affect the network operations of the switch.
IGMP Snooping and VIDs When IGMP snooping is disabled, the AT-S24 software supports VID numbers 2 through 4096. When IGMP snooping is enabled, the management software supports VID numbers 2 through 2047.
IGMP AT-S24 management software supports IGMP Version 1 and Version 2.
Telnet and Local Management Sessions You cannot run both a Telnet and a local management session on a switch at the same time. If you cannot establish a Telnet session to an AT-8200XL Series switch, someone else may already be managing the switch locally, or the network administrator may not have quit from the last local management session on the switch. Omega has a timeout feature where it will automatically end a management session, if it detects no management activity after a specified period of time. The default setting is 5 minutes. This value is adjustable. For instructions, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide.
Configuring Port Mirroring Using an SNMP Network Manager You can use an SNMP network manager to configure port mirroring. The MIB objects are located as follows:.alliedTelesyn(207).mibObject(8).fstswitchMib(32).fstswitchGlobalGroup(1) You must set the following MIB objects:.fstswitchMirroringSourcePort(4).fstswitchMirroringDestinationPort(4).fstswitchMirrorState(6) For further information on port mirroring, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide.
Head of Line (HOL) Blocking Head of Line blocking is disabled on the switch.
Supported MIBs Version 2.4 supports the following MIBs: RFC1213MIB (MIB-2) RFC1573MIB (IANAifTableMIB) RFC1643MIB (Ether-LikeMIB) RFC1493MIB (BridgeMIB) PrivateMIB (FSTSWITCHMIB, AT-IFMIB)
Limitations Upgrading the AT-S24 Management Software Switch to Switch You cannot upgrade the AT-S24 management software switch to switch. You can use either TFTP or the RS232 port and XModem to upgrade a switchs software. For further information, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide. Multiple VLAN Mode and Port Security You cannot use the port security feature if the switch is operating in a Multiple VLAN Mode. Statistics Counters Alignment errors and CRC errors are reported in the same counter. Also, the transmit statistics multicast counter is incremented by flooding unicast traffic. RMON and Uplink Ports RMON alarms and the RMON log are not generated for uplink ports. Previous Version 2.4.4 Resolved Issues Destination MAC Address The switch would not forward a packet if its destination MAC address was in the range 01:80:C2:00:00:00 to 01:80:C2:00:00:FF. This problem has been resolved. DHCP Requests DHCP, if activated in the management software, will make continuous requests for IP configuration information until a DHCP server responds. In previous management versions, DHCP requests would stop after three attempts.
Previous Version 2.4.2 Resolved Issues Web Browser Management Session Moving rapidly through the management windows periodically caused the management session to freeze. This problem, which was due in part to a memory allocation issue in the switch, has been resolved. Port Trunking and IGMP Snooping A port trunk would fail if IGMP snooping was activated on the switch. This problem has been resolved. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) This version of the management software supports DHCP. An AT-8200XL Series Switch can obtain its IP configuration from a DHCP server. Enterprise Traps and SNMP Management Programs There was an incompatibility issue between enterprise traps from the switch and some SNMP management programs. This problem has been resolved. Previous Version 2.4 New Features Start Log and Stop Log Options These two new options in the Administration menu are used to start and stop the Activity log. Dynamic Limited Security Level A new level of port security has been added to the management software. Called Dynamic Limited Security, this security level is similar to the existing Limited Security level in that both are used to configure the ports on a switch to learn only a limited number of dynamic MAC addresses. Refer to Operational Notes for further information on this feature. MAC Address Filter for Port Security Another new feature in the Port Security window is the MAC address filter per port selection. This selection can be used to configure a port to learn only those dynamic MAC addresses that meet a criteria defined by a filter. Refer to Operational Notes for a description of this feature.
Previous Version 2.2.2 New Feature Web Browser Management Disabling web browser management has been enhanced to increase protection to the switch from virus attacks, such as from Code Red. Resolved Issues MIB object dot1dBaseNumPorts The MIB object dot1dBaseNumPorts always returned the value 0. This has been corrected. SNMP Management Program and MAC Addresses A switch did not always return the correct MAC addresses when queried by a SNMP management program. This problem has been resolved. Previous Version 2.2.0 Resolved Issues Static MAC Addresses This management software now supports static MAC addresses. You can enter up to 255 static address per port. For instructions on displaying and modifying the static MAC address table, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide. Web-based Management Session and the Graphical Switch Image Previous versions of the management software did not display the graphical image of an AT-8224XL Switch or AT-D8224XL Switch in a web-based Omega management session. This problem has been resolved. For further information on the graphical image, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide. (This software version does not support the graphical image of the AT-8216FXL Switch or the AT-8288XL Switch.) Redundant Power Supply (RPS) Status The Diagnostics window now includes status information on an RPS, if installed. Web Browser Management of an AT-D8224XL Series Switch Previous versions of the management program did not allow you to manage the AT-D8224XL Switch (DC version) using a web browser. This problem has been resolved.
Updating the MAC Address Table and the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Table The MAC address table and the ARP table are now properly updated when a link is lost to an end node.
Port Trunks and Static MAC Addresses Disconnecting the cables of a port trunk from the switch caused the MAC addresses learned dynamically on the ports to be converted into static MAC addresses. This problem has been resolved. MAC addresses learned dynamically on a port trunk remain as dynamic addresses.
Upgrading the AT-S24 Management Software Using TFTP Previous versions of the management software did not allow you to download a new version of the AT-S24 software onto a switch using TFTP. This problem has been resolved. For instructions on how to download software using TFTP, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide.
Port Mirroring with Expansion Modules This version of the management software supports port mirroring on expansion modules.
Previous Version 2.01 New Features Port Security Enhancement The port security feature has been expanded. You can now set a maximum value for the number of MAC addresses each port on the switch can learn. A port will discard packets with unknown addresses once the maximum value has been reached. This feature can prevent unauthorized end nodes from accessing switch ports. For further information on this feature, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide. Priority Queuing You can now adjust the algorithm used by the management software to handle packets in the normal and high priority queues. The default setting specifies that packets in the high priority queue receive six times more importance than packets in the normal queue. You can adjust this from a low of one to one, where packets in the two queues are handled equally, to a high of twelve to one, where high priority packets receive twelve times more importance than packets in the normal priority queue. For further information on this feature, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide. Clearing Dynamic MAC Addresses AT-S24 now contains a menu option for clearing all dynamic MAC addresses from the MAC address table. For information on the command, refer to the AT-S24 Users Guide.
Resolved Issues SNMP Network Manager and Expansion Modules You can use an SNMP network manager to view status information on the expansion modules installed in the switch. newRoot and topologyChange Traps The management software now properly transmits the STP newRoot and topologyChange traps. IGMP and Multicast Address Entries Disabling IGMP on the switch automatically deletes all multicast address entries. Spanning Tree Protocol and BPDU Packets The STP algorithm now handles improperly configured BPDU packets from other devices, reducing the possibility of unexpected network loops in some environments. Get Port From MAC Address Selection The Get Port From MAC Address selection in the MAC Address menu now works correctly.
