Awesome game player, and has replaced my laptop but I do not have to need for business and so I do not know about how those work. Great for traveling,...

The iPad is exactly what I expected, easy to use, very well executed so long as you understand that it is mainly a device to consume media.

This guide provides information that you will need to download, capture, and deploy Embedded OS 8.xx on the following blade workstation client computers using Altiris Deployment Solution: HP Blade Workstation Client (formerly known as the HP Compaq Blade Workstation Client) HP dc72 Blade Workstation Client
Information on downloading, capturing, and deploying the operating system for the HP Compaq T5720 Thin Client is not provided in this guide. The reader is assumed to be knowledgeable about: Installing, configuring, and using Altiris Deployment Solution Configuring DHCP and PXE servers

1-1 Client documentation

For documentation that may be more current than the documentation originally included with your client computer, refer to the following websites: HP Blade Workstation Client: http://www.hp.com/support/bwclient_manuals HP dc72 Blade Workstation Client: http://www.hp.com/support/dc72_manuals
Please also check these websites for later versions of this document.

1-2 Client software

The software required to maintain your client computer is downloadable from the HP website. To find the downloadable software, go to http://www.hp.com/support, select your country or region, select your language preference, and enter one of the following in the product search box, depending on your client computer: HP Blade Workstation Client HP dc72 Blade Workstation Client
On the next page, click Download drivers and software to view the downloadable software for your client computer. Figure 1-1 shows a partial listing of the software available for the HP dc72 Blade Workstation Client. HP recommends that you use the latest software availablethis will provide the most complete Altiris support. In Figure 1-1, version 8 is the latest software available, and is recommended. Introduction 5

1-3 Altiris Deployment Solution
With your purchase of the HP Compaq Blade Workstation Client or the HP dc72 Blade Workstation Client, you are entitled to a version of Altiris Deployment Solution designed to manage your client computers. Chapter 3 describes how to download and install Altiris Deployment Solution.

1-4 Tabloid size pages

This document contains both letter size and tabloid size pages. Tabloid pages are included because they permit complex, multi-step processes to be documented on a single page. Tabloid pages are best viewed either on your computer monitor, or when printed on size B (11 inches by 17 inches) or ISO A3 (297 mm by 420 mm) paper. If you print this document, it is recommended that you use a printer capable of handling letter and tabloid size paper simultaneously. If your printer handles only letter size paper, you should specify, if available, scaling to letter size or scale to fit paper in the print dialog. This will ensure that figures on the tabloid pages are scaled to fit on letter size paper. Tabloid pages may also be printed individually if you have access to a tabloid-capable printer. Select Current Page in the print dialog, and select Properties to view the paper size and orientation options. Depending on your printer, paper size may be listed as tabloid, size B, or A3. Orientation should be set to landscape.

Introduction 6

This chapter provides an overview of the client management capabilities that are provide by Altiris Deployment Solution. Four basic capabilities (building blocks) are described first followed by a description of how these basic capabilities can be combined to perform more advanced operations. Chapter 4, Using Altiris Deployment Solution, describes each of these operations in detail.

2-1 Building blocks

The following four capabilities of the Altiris Deployment Solution are the building blocks upon which more advance operations are based: Download to clientDownload a client OS image (the USB Key Image) onto a USB key, and then install the OS image from the USB key onto a client computer. Download to eXpressDownload a client OS image (the Altiris Image) to the Deployment Solution eXpress directory. CaptureCreate a disk image of a client computer on the network, and store the disk image in the eXpress directory. DeployInstall an OS image over the network from the eXpress directory to a client computer.

2-1-1 Download to client

Downloading an OS image to a single client computer can be performed independently of Altiris Deployment Solution by following these two steps (see Figure 2-1): 1. Download the OS image (the USB Key Image) from the HP website, and store the image on a USB key. 2. Plug the USB key into the client computer, and install the OS from the USB key. Figure 2-1 Downloading an OS image to a client computer

2-1-2 Download to eXpress
With Download to eXpress, the OS image (the Altiris Image) is downloaded from the HP website directly to the Deployment Solution eXpress directory (see Figure 2-2). Figure 2-2 Download to eXpress

4-3 Capturing an OS image
Capturing an OS image is the process of transferring the OS image from a client computer to the Deployment Solution eXpress directory (see Figure 4-5). Figure 4-5 Image capture
The process to capture the OS image differs between client software version 7 and client software version 8. The sample jobs provided by HP support the following client software versions: The LegacyCaptureImg job is used to capture client software version 7 and before. The CaptureImg job is used to capture client software version 8.
Section 3-3, Installing Deployment Solution sample jobs, describes how to download these sample jobs. Figure 4-6 on the next page describes the LegacyCaptureImg job, and Figure 4-7 on the subsequent page describes the CaptureImg job.

4-4 Deploying an OS image
Deploying an image is the process of installing the OS image from the eXpress directory to one or more client computers (see Figure 4-8). Figure 4-8 Image deployment
There are two options for deploying OS images: Deploy the image while retaining the OS settings stored in partition 5. The sample job DeployKeepSettings deploys an OS image in this manner. Deploy the image while overwriting all OS settings. The sample job DeployImg deploys an OS image in this manner.
Section 3-3, Installing Deployment Solution sample jobs, describes how to download these sample jobs. Figure 4-9 and Figure 4-10 on the next two pages describe the DeployKeepSettings job. Figure 4-11 on the subsequent page describes the DeployImg job.
