LCD MONITORS
A thin display screen that uses LCD (Liguid Crystal Display) to display a picture. First used in laptops, LCD monitors have replaced desktop CRTs. With their low power consumption, low radiation and space-saving footprint, flat panels are expected to replace CRTs entirely within a few years. LCDs use a precise matrix of rows and columns based on the highest resolution supported, and that highest resolution is the only one that fills the entire screen perfectly. For example, if you send an 800x600 image to an LCD rated at 1280x1024, it will either display as a rectangle in the middle of the screen or be scaled up to 1280x1024.

VIDEO CARDS

Each PCI Express link is a serial communications channel made up of two differential wire pairs that provide 2.5 Gbits/sec in each direction. Up to 32 of these "lanes" may be combined in x2, x4, x8, x16 and x32 configurations. AGP is an Accelerated Graphics Port on your motherboard which is designed solely for graphics cards. It is a shorter slot than a PCI slot and is normally a dark brown color. AGP functions at 66MHZ by default on a 32bit bus. AGP 1X operates in a traditional fashion while AGP 2X is a "double pumped" solution transmitting data on the rising and falling edges of the clock signal for effectively double the throughput. AGP 4X and AGP 8X are both progressions that enable some additional features the most important of which is added bandwidth. Other factors in the performance of video cards are the memory speed (DDR is faster than SDR), the chipset (as newer chipsets are introduced they handle more functions) and the memory size.
