ARCHOS Introduces the Gmini 402 Camcorder, the First Pocket Multimedia Center with Built-In Video Capture Page 2
The Gmin i 402 Camcorder is a breakthrough product for ARCHOS, integrating the multimedia features consumers want most in one extremely portable, yet very stylish device, said Henri Crohas, ARCHOS chief executive officer. Consumers have been asking ARCHOS to bring back our digital video and photo capture accessory, and with the Gmini 402 Camcorder we have integrated this important feature directly into the product. At a time when consumers are using phones and palm-sized digital cameras for capturing important moments, it makes sense for us to integrate these features into one of the most popular portable media devices available today. Vide o, Music, Photos, Camcorder and Digital Camera in One Pocket-Sized Device With the Gmini 402 Camcorder Pocket Multimedia Center, consumers can record personal videos in MPEG-42 format directly onto the 20-gigabite hard drive. The Gmini 402 camcorder offers five different video settings for capturing at various resolution ratesfor low resolution images, consumers can capture up to 50 hours1 of personal videos, with high resolution resulting in 13 hours1 of video. The Gmini 402 Camcorder also captures still photos in 1.2 mega pixel resolution and features a 2x digital zoom. The Gmini 402 Camcorder is the same weight and dimensions as the companys Gmini 402, released in July 2005. The camcorder and camera distinguish the two products, yet both offer the same video and audio playback and photo viewing capabilities. The ARCHOS Gmini line competes in both price and hard drive capacity with the most popular digital music players, yet offer color screens, Microsoft PlaysForSure compatibility, PC and Mac integration and a host of other features not found in other portable music devices. Pricing and Availability The ARCHOS Gmini 402 Camcorder will be available in October at select retailers and online. Pricing will be US$399.95. This Tested Players list represents players we have tested satisfactorily with NetLibrary eAudiobooks to date, along with important notes and specific features. We are currently evaluating additional devices as part of an on-going effort to stay up-to-date with the rapidly changing portable device market. Please visit this link periodically for updates and changes:
http://support.oclc.org/Resolutions/TestedPlayers.pdf Device Feature Requirements
Must be able to play secure or protected WMA files: Windows Media Audio (WMA) is an audio compression format similar to MP3, but with built-in digital rights management (DRM) for copy protection and usage restrictions. The DRM used by NetLibrary eAudiobooks controls expiration of your eAudiobook, so that they will expire at the end of the borrowing period. Must be able to play a WMA file with a minimum bit rate of 32 Kbps Must be Windows 2000, XP or Vista compatible Must be compatible with Windows Media Player version 9 (WMP v9) or higher: This is used for transferring or synchronizing files to the device. Must have [On/Off] resume, pause/resume functionality, or true bookmarking: These features enable you to return to your place in the book. The alternative is to fast-forward to find your place in the book each time you resume reading. Must have an LCD time display of either HH:MM:SS or MMMM:SS: These time display formats allow the device to play and handle long tracks or files. The time display is also important when returning to a designated place in the book. Must have a minimum of 512 MB of storage Must pass the NetLibrary Long Play Standard: The device must be able to play a track with duration of 18 hours or longer (file size usually 256 MB or larger).
To see our testing process, please see the next page.
Tested Players NetLibrary Long Play Standard Test
OCLC uses the NetLibrary eAudiobook Moby Dick for standard long play testing due to its length (Size: 298 MB; Duration: 21 hours, 15 minutes, 19 seconds or 1275:19). The testing process: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Using an IE Browser, go to http://www.netlibrary.com/ Select the Log In link (located in the upper left hand corner). Enter your NetLibrary Username and Password. Enter Moby Dick in the search box and select the search button. Select Download this eAudiobook then choose Check Out & Download CD Quality. Download and save the file to your desktop. Open the eAudiobook Moby Dick in Windows Media Player (WMP) to obtain the license then transfer or sync it to the device. Please refer to the Going Portable with eAudiobooks brochure for instructions on how to do this: http://www.oclc.org/services/brochures/goingportable.pdf 8. Note any problems transferring or syncing the eAudiobook (any errors received) Verify that the eAudiobook plays successfully. Verify that the device bookmarks or pause/resumes successfully, and that the eAudiobook resumes at the same location where the bookmark or pause was set. Verify the device LCD time display and the WMP time display show the same time length for the eAudiobook? Verify whether the time display format is either HH:MM:SS or MMMM:SS.

10. Fast forward to the end of the eAudiobook on the device and WMP (shown in the LCD time display, i.e. 21:15:19 or 1275:19 for Moby Dick). Verify it is the true end-of-book for the device and WMP.
11. Note the firmware version of the device tested. (Refer to the device manual for instructions on how to display the firmware version information.)
Devices that do not meet requirements
You may already own an mp3 player or other device that does not meet the Time Display or Long Play requirements. Many portable devices on the market were designed primarily for use with short music files, for example, rather than long eAudiobook files. They may not deliver features that allow you to return easily to your place in the book, or may have problems handling longer files. The Time Display and Long Play requirements are designed to deliver best functionality regardless of the length of your NetLibrary eAudiobook. Your existing player may still function without those features with short to average-length eAudiobooks, although probably at a less than optimal level. Without those features, however, your player will not handle the longest NetLibrary eAudiobooks, or those with a play length of more than 18 hours. This usually equates to a file size of more than 256MB. The average eAudiobook size is 140 MB. So while choosing or using a player, a user should be aware of the size of the individual file and the capability of their player.
Fast forward to the middle of the eAudiobook (on the device and in WMP) to the same time instance (i.e. 11:37:15 if HH:MM:SS or 697:15 if MMMM:SS). Verify both play the same words at the time mark? Verify the progress bar on the device match the time duration as you fast forward and rewind throughout the eAudiobook. (i.e. for Moby Dick, fast forward to 15:15:15 or 915:15, is the progress bar approximately threequarters across the display at this time mark?)
Fast forward to the end of Moby Dick, then rewind to 5:15:15 or 315:15. Verify the progress bar is approximately one-quarter across the display at this time mark.
