Installation and Use of ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak Zi8 Camera
Note: These instructions are written for PC computers. INSTALLATION OF ARCSOFT MEDIAIMPRESSION 1. Connect camera to computer through the flexible USB cord on the camera. The camera will automatically turn on. 2. The installation process should automatically begin with the appearance of the Choose a Setup Language window. Select English and then click OK. 3. If a Removable Disk (G:) window appears, click Cancel to close this window. (Note: The letter in the parenthesis will be different on each computer.) 4. When the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak - Welcome to the InstallShield for MediaImpression window opens, click Next. 5. In the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak License Agreement window, click Yes. 6. In the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak Choose a Destination Location window, click Next. 7. In the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak Select Program Folder window, use the suggested Program Folder name: ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak and click Next. 8. Allow the installation process to run in the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak - Setup Status window. 9. In the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak Associated File Formats window, first click Select All and then click Next. 10. In the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak Register window, uncheck the box to the left of Register My Camera and then click Next. 11. In the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak InstallWizard Complete window, click Finish. (Note: QuickTime 7.4.5 or later is required to use MediaImpression for Kodak. If your computer does not have the required version of QuickTime, make sure there is a check in the box next to Install QuickTime.) 12. If QuickTime 7 needs to be installed and the Install Quick Time box was checked, the Download QuickTime website will automatically open. 1
13. On the Download Quick Time website, use the default setting QuickTime 7.6.8 for Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. Also Uncheck the Keep Me Up To Date With Apple News box if you do not want to receive updates from Apple. 14. Locate and click the Download Now button. This will start the installation process. 15. If the In the Opening QuickTime Installer.exe window opens, click Save File. Then you will be asked to name and save the program. Use the default program name provided and save the program on the desktop. Then click Save. 16. Close the QuickTime 7 website. 17. Locate the QuickTime Installer.exe icon on the desktop and double click it. 18. In the Open File Security Warning Do you want to run this file? window select Run. 19. When the Quick Time for Windows Welcome to the QuickTime 7 Installer window opens, click Next. 20. When the Quick Time for Windows License Agreement window opens, click Yes. 21. Next in the Quick Time for Windows Destination Folder window use the default destination folder and click Install. 22. Next the Quick Time for Windows Installing Quick Time window will open and the installation process will automatically start and run. 23. When the QuickTime installation process is completed, the Quick Time for Windows QuickTime Installer Complete window will open. Then click Finish. 24. In the next window, click No Thanks for the Upgrade from Video Watcher to Video Maker. 25. The installation of ArcSoft is complete. SAVING MEDIA FROM THE CAMERA TO A DIGITAL PROJECT FOLDER 1. Connect your Lacie external hard drive to the computer and turn on the hard drive. 2. Next double click My Computer on the desktop. Within My Computer locate the Lacie hard drive and open it. 2
3. Create and save a digital project folder on the Lacie hard drive where you will save the media (images and/or video) currently on the camera. 4. Connect the camera to the computer through the flexible USB cord on the camera. The camera will automatically turn on and ArcSoft MediaImpressions for Kodak will open. (Note: If the ArcSoft MediaImpression Check Update window opens, click No when asked, A new version is available. Would you like to download it now?) 5. In the ArcSoft MediaImpression for Kodak welcome window, select Import in order to open the Import window. 6. Next confirm the camera drive is listed in the Get Media from window. (Note: The camera will be identified as a Removable Disk followed by a letter. The letter will vary from computer to computer.) 7. Next in the Destination Folder window select the digital project folder where you want to save the media from the camera. To do this, click the yellow file folder icon to the right of the Destination Folder box, locate the digital project folder on the Lacie hard drive, and select it. You are given the opportunity to create a subfolder within the digital project folder. To create a subfolder, select Custom Name under Subfolder Name and type the name of the subfolder. If you do not want to create a subfolder, select None under Subfolder Name. 8. Under Import Options decide which options you would like to use: Exclude files that have already been imported or Fix red-eye automatically. 9. Leave Attach a tag unchecked. 10. Next on the right side of the Import window, select the media you want to import into the designated destination folder. To select more than one media clip or image, hold down the Shift key while clicking on the media. Click Select All at the bottom to select all of the media. 11. Next click Import in the lower left corner of the Import window. After the selected media is imported an Importing window will open asking you to select either Delete Original Files or Done. If you choose Delete Original Files, the media will be deleted from the camera at this time. You may choose to keep the media on the camera and delete it later using one of the following steps: a. Connect camera to the computer and open the camera through My Computer. Select the media you want to delete then hit the Delete key or select Edit from the taskbar on the screen then click Delete. b. Manually delete the media from the camera using the keys on the camera. 3
12. Click Done. 13. The Media Browser window should automatically open. If this doesnt happen, click the House icon in the upper left corner of the window to return to the ArcSoft MediaImpression welcome window and select Browse My Videos to open the Media Browser window. SCREENING MEDIA AND CREATING A MOVIE IN ARCSOFT MEDIAIMPRESSION 1. Within the Media Browser window, the media saved in the digital project folder is shown on the right side. To see where the media files are saved on the computer, select Show All Media Files directly below the House icon in the upper left corner of the window, and then click on the yellow file folder icon in the lower left corner of the window. 2. Select Make Movie in the lower part of the window, and then the Make Movie window will open. 3. To add a movie title, double click on the Double-click to add Title box in the movie timeline at the bottom of the window. 4. To add movie credits, double click on the Double-click to add Credits box in the movie timeline at the bottom of the window. 5. Click and drag the media down into the movie timeline and between the title and credit boxes. You can also rearrange the media within the timeline by clicking and dragging the media. 6. Once you have finalized the order of the media and added at title and credits, select Save/Share above the timeline on the right side of the window to save the movie. 7. In the Save and Share window, select PC and then click Next. 8. The Save As window will open. In this window type the title of the movie in the Name box. In the File Format box, use the default setting MOV(720P) 1280x720. In the Location box, make sure the Lacie hard drive and digital project folder are the designated location. If they are not, click on the yellow file folder icon and select the correct location. Then click OK and wait until the movie is saved. 9. A small Save and Share window will open indicating that the video has been successfully saved. Click OK to close this window.
10. The same Save and Share window from Step #7 will open. Click Cancel to close this window. 11. To close the current project, select Close above the timeline on the right side of the screen. You will be asked if you want to save the current project. If you decide to save the current project, click Yes. In the Save As window that opens locate the project digital folder in the Save in box. (Note: You may have to use the drop-down arrow to locate the folder on the computer.) In the File name box write the name of the project. Then click Save. If you choose not to save the project, remember that the final movie has already been saved in the digital project folder during Step #9. 12. To screen the final movie, close ArcSoft MediaImpression by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the window. Open My Computer on the desktop and locate and open the digital project folder on the Lacie hard drive. Inside the digital project folder, the movie will be saved as a.MOV file with the title you gave it in Step #8. 13. Double click on the movie file and a viewing screen will open. Click on the arrow in the middle, at the bottom of the window and the movie will play. 14. To transfer the movie to another computer save a copy of the movie on a flash drive. Keep the original movie saved in the digital project folder on the Lacie hard drive. The End.
