| Bought the 16G WiFi for my wife. She enjoys playing games, surfing the web, reading books, reading email and catching up on her Soaps at ABC.com. Awesome game player, and has replaced my laptop but I do not have to need for business and so I do not know about how those work. Great for traveling,... | |

Compaq Pro Workstation AP500 500S1
ReelTime installation was trouble-free and performance is consistently high, therefore this system is recommended for ReelTime and ReelTime NITRO. INSTALLATION TIPS: ReelTime and ReelTime NITRO hardware and software installed easily. For best results, install an Adaptec 2940Ultra2Wide SCSI controller with a Low-VoltageDifferential (LVD) SCSI drive array. Compaq recommends installing any additional SCSI controller into PCI Slot 2. After installing a second adapter, activate Enable Boot Order in Computer Setup. This will allow you to boot the AP500 if the AV Array was disconnected. Press F10 immediately after booting the system to start the Computer Setup utility. Select Computer Setup, then Integrated and Add-in Devices, and choose PCI Boards. Click on the Enable Boot Order radio box. Click on View or Edit button, and move the Device controlling the boot device to the top of the list if more than one controller is listed (default is Compaq SCSI Controller). Save changes, exit and reboot. The system BIOS allocates all ReelTime boards, SCSI controllers and graphics adapters under IRQ11. Although curious, system performance did not appear to suffer. RECOMMENDED SLOT ASSIGNMENTS: Consult Compaq's reference guide to establish PCI slot numbering. More details are available in the Peripheral Assignments section below. ReelTime only: Slot 1: Overlay Loop Bracket Slot 2: additional SCSI controller or empty Slot 3: ReelTime or empty Slot 4: ReelTime or empty ReelTime and NITRO: Slot 1: Overlay Loop Bracket Slot 2: additional SCSI controller or empty Slot 3: ReelTime or NITRO Slot 4: ReelTime or NITRO

Compaq Pro Workstation SP700
INSTALLATION TIPS: SP700 is an excellent performer, fast and trouble-free. ReelTime and ReelTime NITRO hardware and software installed easily. The SP700 uses dual controllers for PCI and memory buses. Please follow recommendations for ReelTime NITRO hardware installation. Adding an external LVD array is highly recommended. The SP700 uses a dual PCI bus architecture. If you are installing ReelTime NITRO hardware, install one card on slot 4 and the other on slot 5. The PCI slot 8 on the Secondary bus is located under the expansion board assembly and cannot be used for the ReelTime or NITRO boards. Consult Identifying the PCI and ISA Expansion Slots in the Expansion Boards chapter in the SP700 Reference Guide. Also see the Recommended Slot Assignments section below. Install the Adaptec AHA-2940 Ultra2Wide SCSI controller and an array of LVD hard drives. Adding RAM to the SP700 is not simple, as it features a new dual memory controller bus. RAM upgrades should match in both memory buses. For our test, we installed four 64MB SDRAM modules on memory slots 1,2,5 and 6 for a total of 256MB (can accept up to 2GB RAM). See Compaq's white paper Second-Generation Highly Parallel System Architecture for Compaq Professional Workstations for more details. TESTED CONFIGURATION: Operating System: WindowsNT 4.0 (build 1381 Service Pack 4) BIOS: Compaq BIOS dated 10/09/98 Motherboard: Compaq assembly revision 1, functionality revision level A

Compaq Pro Workstation AP500
INSTALLATION TIPS: ReelTime and ReelTime NITRO hardware and software installed easily. Compaq's Proliant Storage System U2 array can be used, but using an Adaptec AHA2940U/UW SCSI controller with a single array achieves good results. The system BIOS allocates all ReelTime boards, SCSI controllers and graphics adapters under IRQ11. Although curious, system performance does not suffer. Installing ReelTime-only (without NITRO) board in Slot 4 may cause the AudDrive service (ESS ES1869 AudioDriver) not to load. Move ReelTime to Slot 3. RECOMMENDED SLOT ASSIGNMENTS: (Consult system documentation to establish slot numbering.) ReelTime only: Slot 1: Overlay Loop Bracket Slot 2: additional SCSI controller or empty Slot 3: ReelTime or empty Slot 4: ReelTime or empty ReelTime and NITRO: Slot 1: Overlay Loop Bracket Slot 2: additional SCSI controller or empty Slot 3: NITRO Slot 4: ReelTime ReelTime, NITRO, and Proliant array: Slot 1: Overlay Loop Bracket Slot 2: dual-channel Compaq 53C876 SCSI controller Slot 3: NITRO Slot 4: ReelTime TESTED CONFIGURATION: BIOS: Compaq BIOS dated 8/13/98 Motherboard: Compaq assembly revision 1, functionality revision G Processor(s): One 450MHz Pentium-II processor RAM: 256MB SCSI adapter: onboard Symbios (CPQ32FS2) Single channel UW SCSI controller Display adapter: ELSA GLoria Synergy+ Compaq AGP 4MB, BIOS ver 8.04.01

CERTIFIED MOTHERBOARDS AND CHASSIS
Intel MS440GX (Xeon motherboard)
http://developer.intel.com/design/wrkstn/ms440gx/index.htm This Xeon motherboard comes with an integrated Ethernet, but does not have an integrated SCSI controller. Please add a SCSI controller (ie, Adaptect 2940U2W). Intel has designed a chassis to go with this motherboard, but we DO NOT recommend this chassis because cooling is poor. Please select a chassis with several heavy-duty fans, such as the SuperMicro 750 chassis (see below).
Supermicro 750 (chassis)
http://www.supermicro.com/PRODUCT/Chassis/sc750.htm This chassis has more cooling than many of the cases we have seen.
Asus P2B-DS (BX motherboard)

Tyan Thunder 100 V1.0.6 (BX motherboard)
http://www.tyan.com/ TESTED CONFIGURATION: AMI BIOS Memory: 256MB RAM Processor9s): Dual 500MHz Pentium III CPU. ATI 3D Rage Pro PCI (GT-C2U2) 2MB SVGA Network: Intel 82557 Ethernet on the motherboard SCSI: Adaptec UW SCSI 7895 on motherboard Boot drive: Seagate 34572W AV drives: 9GB Seagate Cheetahs: two 19101W. Produce 28MB/sec with SCSIBench Virtual memory on C Drive: 267 MB for both Initial and Maximum. CONFIGURATION TIPS: BIOS and system services were left unchanged from factory set up. Had to place the ATI SVGA PCI card in a lower slot number than ReelTime and NITRO to make the system work. We tried 3 combinations with the ATI SVGA card above ReelTime. In these 3 configurations, the workstation booted OK, but eventually froze using NT Explorer or inside Premiere. We expect most customers to use AGP SVGA cards, so this will be a non-issue. Shared ISA/PCI slot #6 worked out for the NITRO 3D DVE PCI card. We would normally recommend not using this slot. SLOT CONFIGURATIONS: Slots numbered from left to right as you look at back of workstation:
Configuration #1 #2 AGP slot PCI slot 1 PCI slot 2 SVGA PCI slot 3 SVGA ReelTime PCI slot 4 NITRO PCI slot 5 Shared PCI/ISA ISA ReelTime NITRO
NOTE: Configurations with the SVGA card above ReelTime and/or NITRO failed.
