Good Deal Just got product. Phone seems well built for a product costing only twenty-five dollars. The screen does not light as shown on the photo,... AT&T speakerphone This phone is as nice as it looks. The numbers are large and very easy to read and the ring tone is loud, although ajustable.

RIP WAUGH SCHOOL PROPOSAL

Introduction

Pyrities is a town in the northern part of New York State. Within the last few years, Pyrities, has experienced a population boom due to the new jobs brought to the area. This growth has influenced many new families to move to this small town. This has caused a need to expand the school district and in doing so, creating the Rip Waugh School, a kindergarten through twelfth grade facility.
The following material is the proposed plan and budget for creating this school; the most important aspects being the layout of the school and the network infrastructure. The building committee has allotted five-hundred-thousand dollars for the creation of this new buildings infrastructure and supporting items. A one-hundred-thousand dollar, yearly upkeep, has also been declared for this buildings network infrastructure. Given this and the parameters listed below, the following is the proposed plan for the Rip Waugh School.

School Necessities

Core Curriculum Classes: Two of each grade Kindergarten through 6th grade. One 7th and 8th grade English, Math, Science, and Social Studies classrooms One class of 9th through 12th grade for English, Math, Social Studies, Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science Two Special Education Classrooms Specials: One each of each, Elementary and High School Library An Art room Technology/Wood Shop class Home Economics Gym Music Two Smart Classrooms Services: Two Cafeterias Auditorium Guidance Office Educational Technology Office Nurses Office Elementary Office/Principals Office Superintendents Office Faculty Room

Rationale

The Rip Waugh School consists of two floors, one being elementary based, the other being middle and high school. Each floor contains an administrative office, a special education room, library, cafeteria, and smart classroom. This design is to ensure the young ones are not being run over by the older students, and though it divides the school for easier management, it also allows children to still interact with one another in the main entrance or hallway. To view the layout see the Appendix titled School Layout on page 7. This school is also split into class wings. Each wing contains certain grade levels. Upon entrance to the building through the main doors, to the left there is the Early Childhood Wing, or Kindergarten through second wing. This wing contains not only the kindergarten, first and second grade classes, but the first smart room and the elementary main office. To the right of the doors is the Childhood Wing, grades three through five. This wing also contains the Art and Wood Shop rooms. These special rooms are divided from the core classrooms by two bathrooms; this is done for some seclusion due to noise from these very active class spaces. Each core classroom, except the Special Education rooms, is 20x15x10. The Special Education rooms are 14x24x10, the reason for this being that there is a small office for the Special Education Staff. The first special education class is located down the first specials wing. This wing also contains the elementary library, cafeteria, music room, gym, nurse, faculty room, and auditorium. These rooms are common spaces and thus are centralized for their use. Upon entrance to the building there are also two sets of stairs, one on the left and one on the right. These lead to the middle school, high school, and secondary special wings. On the left side upstairs of the building is the sixth through eighth grade wing, also known as the middle school wing. Much like its downstairs neighbor it contains the core classes for these grades in addition to the Superintendents office, and the second smart classroom. The wing to the right of the upstairs platform is the high school wing, containing the ninth through twelfth grade core classrooms. The final hallway in this school is the secondary specials wing; this wing contains similar rooms as its downstairs counterpart. The second special education room, library, and the second cafeteria are all in this hall. Also, there is the Educational Technology office, Home Economics room, and Guidance offices. This layout is vital to organizing students by offices and rooms that they will most frequently use. The base for this layout comes from a combination of John Jay Senior High School, in Hopewell Junction, New York, and Lisbon Central School in Lisbon, New York. These two schools are quite different in size, but the combination of these two layouts creates a harmonious space. The T shape and idea of putting public spaces at the end of the building comes from John Jay; meanwhile dividing the school into two different levels comes from Lisbon, whose school is split by the auditorium, music room, faculty room, and library. This layout allows for division and easier management of the student body.

Network Layout

There are several special components to this school. One being an electrical component for this school, which are the two elevators. These make it easier to move equipment around and it makes the school handicap accessible. Another special component is the network infrastructure that is centrally based. The Educational Technology office is located in the main hallway of the upstairs level. This is to best allow access to the services that an Educational Technology Specialist can provide. In addition, it helps to maintain and organize the schools network. The main server is located in this room, as well as a personal computer for the Specialist. There is a total of more than twenty-four thousand feet of CAT 6 wire running to this room and 758 feet of fiber. The school is set-up so that each classroom has at least one employee computer and printer. Each elementary room, kindergarten through, sixth grade, also contains. There are six network closets strategically placed. The sizes of these closets is similar, either 5x6x10 feet or 5x5x10 feet. Each closet has a switch rack, but is unique in the number of switches and control panels it contains. Each closet is labeled by a letter to help decipher. Each switch in this closet is given a number, the control panels are managed by color and number. The color for the classrooms it contains and the number for which closet it is in. All of this is done to organize and manage the networks infrastructure. For a chart of these materials please see Appendix page 9 through 17.

Closet A

Closet A is located at the end of the Early Childhood Wing, kindergarten through second grade. This closet contains all of the materials necessary to run the core classes in this hallway. On the switch rack there are two 48 port switches. These switches are managed by 6 control panels, one for each classroom that runs to this closet. This allows each room to have 8 ports active at a time, though only four are necessary to be active at this point.

Closet B

Closet B is located in the downstairs main lobby. This closet contains all of the networking for the Elementary main office, Faculty room, Special Education room, Smart Room 1, Elementary Library, Cafeteria, Music room, Gym and nurses office. This closet also contains two48 port switches. There are seven control panels in this closet, three of which are to manage the Smart Classroom most easily. Each Smart room is equipped with 26 computers, 1 for a teacher as well as 25 for students. They also each have a SMART Board and projection system. All wires from the first floor will run to this closet and up stairs through that closet, before finally moving on to the Educational Technology Office.

Closet C

At the end of the Childhood wing, grades three through five, is Closet C. Closet C manages the core classrooms, Art, and Technology/Woodshop rooms. Closet C is composed of two- 48 port

switches, like the other closets on the first floor. It is managed by six control panels, again one for each core classroom. The Art room and Technology room join the fifth grade classes on the Yellow 3 panel and Purple 3 panel in the closet. Wires from this closet run from here to the central closet, Closet B, up to Closet E and over to the Educational Technology Office. Again this helps to organize the wires.

Closet D

Closet D is the first closet located in the upstairs portion of the school. It is located at the end of the Middle School, six through eighth grades, wing. Unlike the downstairs, this closet is much smaller in the components it needs to serve the given hall. There is one-48 port switch that runs to 3 control panels. On the red 4 panel, are the 6th grade classrooms, the blue 4 panel manages the middle school English and Math rooms, and finally the yellow 4 panel runs the middle school Social Studies and Science rooms. This is the smallest closet, in regards to the rooms it is required to support.

Closet E

In the upstairs main lobby you will find Closet E. Closet E contains two-48 port switches, one of which manages the entire Smart room. There are also five control panels to more easily manage the system. Not only do the control panels help to mange, but they help to find and seclude an issue from the rest of the network. Closet E contains the wiring from the Home Economics room, Guidance office, Cafeteria 2, High School Library, Special Education room, Smart room and the High School main office. This is the largest closet on the second floor. Much like the downstairs all wires will meet in this room before being run to the Educational Technology Office.

Closet F

The last of the closets is Closet F. This closet is located at the end of the High School hallway. This closet manages the most rooms on the fewest technological components. All of the high school rooms are contained in this closet; English, Math, Social Studies, Language, Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics are the core classes for the high school. These classes are run by one switch and 3 control panels.
Educational Technology Office
The educational Technology office holds the servers that run internet to the rest of the school. It also holds the additional five SMART Boards and projectors that can be used by anyone in the building. The personnel in this office have access to their own computer and printer. The Educational Technology Specialist also control the copier located in the Faulty room.

Budget

As previously stated the start-up budget is for five-hundred-thousand dollars. As can be seen in the Appendix on page 20, to complete this proposal a total of $348,238.55 has been estimated. Leaving $151,761.45 that can be used on other expenditures. Such things as Air conditioning for the school and offices could be added to the building and wireless internet access. Now though we are under budget for the completion of this project, the ongoing yearly cost may or may not fall into this category. For a yearly ongoing cost there is an estimated $118,972.53. This includes all of the licensing renewals, which may or may not need to be done every year. This also includes the Educational Technology Specialists salary. This is a full time faculty member, if this is considered to be unnecessary the position could be dropped to part time putting the on-going budget well under, to about $80,000.00. To see a further break down of the spending for this project see the Appendix on pages 18 to the end.
