Karlsbad / Munich The Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) show will open in Berlin in just 18 days time and, as in recent years, numerous technical innovations will be on display from all areas of entertainment. Becker, a brand of Harman Becker Automotive Systems GmbH, will also launch a whole array of exciting new products at the worlds largest consumer electronics fair in the shadow of the famous Berlin TV Tower. We would like to introduce you to one of these products right now: the Becker Traffic Assist Pro Z 302 Truck Navigation is the first portable navigation device specially designed for trucks and transporters. The device focuses on safe, fast and simple navigation - not just for car drivers: the Z 302 is particularly suitable for long-distance truck drivers as the portable navigation device (PND) has a number of special navigation functions for heavy goods vehicles. The new, lightning-fast high performance processor with a clock speed of 600 MHz and the 3D graphic accelerator mean that the navigation device also boasts an excellent, rapid route finding algorithm and a superior 3D display. For the first time, the scope of delivery also includes a 360 radio remote control that can be used to control almost all of the PNDs functions, offering the best possible operating convenience. Whether you are travelling by truck, bicycle, car or on foot, Becker has the right profile for you The user profiles are a particular highlight of Beckers first navigation system for trucks, enabling the owner to turn his navigation system into the perfect travelling companion for a whole range of vehicles. For example, people who wish to use their own personal navigation system, irrespective of whether they are driving a car, motorcycle or trucks of different sizes and weights, can adjust their PND to the relevant vehicle at a click, ensuring that they are always offered the ideal route to their destination. Enormous
benefits for long-distance drivers: when creating truck profiles, they can enter details of height, width, length, number of axles, weight, as well as special regulations for the transport of hazardous goods. Then, when it comes to calculate the route, the navigation system will incorporate the individual details relating to the transporter and will exclude roads that are too small and narrow, as well as tunnels and bridges that the truck cannot use. Hazardous goods transporters will only be directed to roads suitable for their use. Surfing the menu without losing your overview In handling and design the new radio remote control from Becker is reminiscent of an Ergocommander, as used in high quality fixed navigation systems in the automotive sector. While the rotary control/ push button usually sits on the central console in a fixed system, users of the Becker device can decide for themselves where they want to place the easy-to-install control for individual handling. When developing the remote control, Becker placed huge emphasis on easy, intuitive operation. Thus the four main functions Becker OneShot voice control, Map, Telephone function and Back command can also be implemented with direct selection buttons. The radio remote control is also a very useful way to maintain a better overview: Turning the control to the right zooms in on the map, while turning it to the left zooms out again. This means that the driver can easily switch to a more detailed view when he encounters a confusing situation. And thats not all: the media player can be selected quickly within the menu, transforming the navigation device into an entertainment centre during driving breaks, playing videos and music and displaying photos. No problems with road traffic regulations thanks to the top features of the Z 302 Whether on long journeys or simply getting about town, the latest PND from Becker ensures that users are well equipped to deal with traffic. The Z 302 plays an important role in relation to road safety. As well as rapid route calculation and complete 3D navigation display, the device also has Bluetooth to enable it to be used as a hands free unit, not only receiving calls, but also text messages, which it can then read back to the driver directly something brand new. This is a useful function when, for example, you are driving to an appointment and a message is received indicating a change of venue. The Becker OneShot voice control familiar from the Z 204 / Z 205 has once again been optimised, enabling a destination address to be entered in a single sentence without inconvenient pauses. The ingenious part: a second integrated microphone enables the recording angle of the navigation device to be set precisely with just a few adjustments. This means that you can quickly decide whether you only want to record the instructions from the driver or passenger or all sound in the car, ensuring an optimum recognition rate for the voice control and when using the hands free function. In addition, the Z 302 ensures greater road safety with the prioritised display of traffic signs to warn drivers in advance of dangers, such as sharp bends and steep slopes.

NAVTEQ TrafficPatterns, TMC Pro and the Block Streets function guarantee optimum route guidance The device also allows streets to be blocked manually either permanently or for a particular period of time. Did you notice new road works or a temporarily closed tunnel on your way to work? Then simply block this route from further use for the present and the Becker PND will divert the driver away from the blocked street the next time. This is a useful function for frequent drivers and city dwellers, who will be familiar with road works and temporarily closed streets as part of their everyday routine. The devices use NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns and the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) to guarantee the best possible route guidance, also using historical data. To get good TMC signal reception is a frequent problem with current PNDs today. Aiming to offer its customers excellent TMC functionality, Becker has incorporated an additional active TMC antenna in the new Z 302, further amplifying the signal. This guarantees appropriate route guidance at all times, even in remote areas. The device is also equipped with TMC Pro as standard. Equipment, service, accessories and availability Becker Best Maps is a special service from Becker that offers customers free map updates in the mybecker.com download area for 24 months. As well as the standard map material for 41 countries, Becker already provides navigation system map material for truck routes in 13 countries (Austria, Benelux, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK). As well as the PND itself, the scope of delivery of the new Z 302 includes a newly developed, more stable windscreen unit holder, the radio remote control described above, a 12V/24V car charging cable, a Content Manager/ map DVD and a USB cable for connecting to the PC. Among the accessories available, Becker offers a connectivity cable that allows the Z 302 to be connected to the integrated loudspeaker system and onboard network in the car or truck. The Becker Traffic Assist Pro Z 302 Truck Navigation is expected to go on sale through selected sales channels in October with a recommended retail price of 499,-.
