Over the past three years The Working Centre has purchased and revitalized two 1900s era, 15,000 square foot warehouse buildings in downtown Kitchener. Proceeds from the Dream Home Lottery will go towards paying off final construction costs and m crucial community space offering essential services of food, health, employment, hygiene, settlement support, employment e these services sustainable. St. Johns Kitchen provides a hot, nutritious noon-time meal supplemented with a breakfast and Food Bank market food distributed during lunch. St.Johns Kitchen is a gathering place for individuals who lead lives of poverty and struggle to hold on to jobs. St. Johns Kitchen now has the additional supports of a medical clinic, the Psychiatric Outreach Project, Downtown Street Outreach, public showers and laundry, the Job Cafe work project, and public washrooms. On the main floor, Worth a Second Look Furniture and Housewares is a thrift store primarily operated by volunteers. This store has become the largest of its kind in Kitchener. The revitalization of 66 Queen is complete and has resulted in the addition of employment counselling space that supports over 2400 people each year. Community tools projects have expanded to include Mauritas Kitchen - a well equipped kitchen at 66 Queen that invites volunteers and those wanting to ready their skills for the labour market to participate in preparing meals. Computer Recycling has moved into the spacious basement of 66 Queen and is quickly expanding its operations. The 2nd floor apartments risk, those with physical and mental health issues, women at risk, and refugees with safe housing. Your support helps make these projects possible. Thank you!
