Preparing an MP3-CD

The various combinations of CD burners, CD burning software and CD blanks may lead to problems arising with the devices ability to play certain CDs. If problems occur with your own burned CDs, you should try another brand of CD blank or choose another colour of CD blank. To avoid problems when playing CDs, you should not burn CDs at speeds greater than 16-speed. The format of the CD must be ISO 9660 Level 1 or Level 2 or Joliet. Other formats cannot be played reliably. Avoid multi-sessions. If you write more than one session to the CD, only the first session will be detected. You can create a maximum of 127 directories on a CD. You can use this device to access each of these directories. Each directory can in turn contain up to 254 tracks and subdirectories that can also be accessed. A maximum of 8 levels of directories are allowed.

Setting scrolling text

You can allow the CD text to be displayed as scrolling text in the bottom line of the display. Switching CD scrolling text on/off

Note: When naming directories and tracks you should avoid using accents and special characters. If you like your files to be in the correct order, you should use burner software that places files in alphanumerical order. If your software does not provide this feature you also have the option of sorting the files manually. To do so, you should place a number (e.g. 001, 002, etc.) at the beginning of each file name - you must include the leading zeros. MP3 tracks can contain additional information such as the artist, album and track names (ID3 tags). This device can display version 1 ID3 tags. This device can only play MP3 files that have the.MP3 file extension. Note: To ensure uninterrupted playback, do not try changing the file extension to.MP3 of any files other than MP3 files and then attempt to play them! Do not use mixed CDs containing both non-MP3 data and MP3 tracks. Do not use mix-mode CDs containing both audio tracks and MP3 tracks.
Since using some burner software can lead to inconsistencies in the way items are numbered, you should ensure that the root directory D01 either contains only subdirectories containing tracks (Fig. 1) or only tracks (Fig. 2). You can name each directory using a PC. The device is capable of displaying the directory name. Name the directories and tracks using your CD burner software. The softwares instruction manual will provide details on how to do this.

Switching to MP3 mode

MP3 mode is activated in the same way as normal CD mode. For further details, please read the section entitled Switching to CD mode / Inserting a CD in the CD mode chapter. 25

Selecting a directory

Selecting from the directory list You can display a list of all the directories on the inserted CD and then conveniently select a directory from it. The directories are displayed with the names that you created when burning the CD. Note: Any directories not containing MP3 files will be skipped automatically. If, for instance, you are listening to tracks in directory D01 and you select the next directory by pressing the joystick 8, directory D02 (which does not contain any MP3 tracks) will be skipped and D03 will be played (see diagram). The display will then automatically switch from D02 to D03.

Configuring the display

There are various options available for displaying the name of the artist, track and album (ID3 tag) or the directory and file name. The information contained in the ID3 tag (album, artist and track) can only be displayed if it was saved when the CD and MP3 file were created. The track name is always displayed in the top line of the display during playback. The track name appears once as scrolling text after a track change and is then abbreviated to 16 characters and displayed. Note: If the track name is not available in the ID3 tag, the system will display the file name instead. You can choose between different items of information to be displayed in the bottom line of the display (info line). connectivity
The TwinCeiver Bremen MP74, a digital twin receiver with a Digital Directional Antenna (DDA), is clearly the top choice for individualists with the most exacting demands on sound and tuner performance. It is equipped with a four-channel, self-adjusting equalizer with a total of 108 bands and delivers
richly detailed, differentiated, well-balanced sound. It is also possible to adjust all 108 bands on your PC to reflect your own personal tastes and to accommodate the conditions in your specific vehicle interior. Experience listening pleasure in a new dimension.

Seattle MP74

The Seattle MP74 with the Digital DigiCeiver is equipped with a DEQmaxEX equalizer with a self-adjusting function that enables it to determine perfect sound all on its own. Thanks to the digital, self-adjusting parametric 5-band equalizer, youll
enjoy differentiated range of sound that can be individually adjusted to accommodate the vehicle acoustics. You can also choose from three key variocolor illuminations; green, red and amber, which make the Seattle look perfect in your dashboard.

Acapulco MP54

The Acapulco MP54 with an MP3-enabled CD drive and DEQmaxEX, a digital, fully parametric, self-adjusting 5-band equalizer, is state-of-the-art in terms of technology as well as looks. Real sound freaks can now use the PC connection to
adjust all the sound parameters on their PCs and the VarioColour display is a delight to the eyes. You can select exactly the display colour you want from more than 4,000 shades.
Nowadays, its hard to imagine in-vehicle sound without MP3 sound files. The advantages are obvious: not only is there a diverse range of storage media, youve got a choice of different playback devices as well. The most important argument in favour of this technology, however, is the compression standard used for music files, based on the MPEG1 standard which gives you hours of music listening enjoyment. And a new interface also makes it possible to connect an iPod, the mobile MP3 player from Apple. The unique VarioColour feature also offers a great deal of flexibility in looks: 4,096 different shades of colour enable you to match up the radio perfectly to virtually any vehicle dashboard.

Frequency in Hz
Digital radio/DAB Digital Audio Broadcasting
Digital radio standard that, in contrast to analogue radio signals, makes it possible to transmit a great deal of data. In addition to audio signals and texts, it is also possible to transmit programme information in the form of images and HTML pages. Even moving images are possible. With digital radio, many familiar programmes are now available in CD quality, along with an entire spectrum of completely new stations. Interference Should there ever be any problem in the transmission of a digital signal, it is usually only a small part of the information that gets lost. And the listener wont even notice: the digital correction process simply recreates the original signals. This guarantees interference-free listening enjoyment every time. Reception convenience Digital radio programmes are transmitted over just one frequency. This means that, once you have tuned into a programme, you will be able to listen to it anywhere within reception range without having to adjust your set. Versatility Even though digital radio is bound to replace FM as the radio standard sooner or later, the Blaupunkt digital radios all still include an FM receiver as well. Additional reception In the future, digital radio will also be able to receive such additional multimedia information as telematics services, information on song titles, weather reports and MP3 files. Sound quality Digital radio provides the same excellent sound quality as a music CD, even at top speed on the motorway. Future standard It is already possible to pick up digital radio almost everywhere in Germany. Full coverage is expected to be achieved by 2004. And since digital radio is a European standard, it will be available in all European countries in the future as well. Programme diversity Digital radio doesnt mean you have to make do with fewer programmes. In Germany, there are already more than 150 digital radio programmes on air and that number is growing.

Reception range of the automatic DDA directional antenna: the wanted transmitter signal is received, the reflected interference signal is faded out.
In principle, the DDA process mimics the reactions of an extremely quick, automatic directional antenna similar to TV rabbit ears that deliver just snow or perfect reception depending on just a small adjustment. When used in car radios, the DDA process works with two independent antennas and receivers, whose signals are digitised using intermediate frequency analogue-digital converters. The digitised data is then fed to an adaptive algorithm with extremely low settling times. Thus, the two intermediate frequency signals are combined so that the antenna can gain up to 3 dB of antenna power even for weak reception field strengths. In areas with strong reception, the second regular receiver, the so-called RDS background receiver, is then freely available. The switch between DDA operation and RDS background reception is quick and inaudible, controlled by a logic that evaluates the current reception conditions. This guarantees the radio listeners the best possible reception and rapid frequency switching at all times, without annoying station searches.
Equalizers that do the thinking for you! The intelligent Blaupunkt equalizers are equipped with a self-adjusting function to automatically optimise sound reproduction. The new DSA+ equalizer is a complete high-performance 24-bit DSP system. The computer has enough power to handle the 4-channel self-adjustment of 27 graphic equalizer bands (= 108 bands in total). This creates a sound quality that remains unparalleled to date and can also be adjusted to your personal taste. Signal time alignment for the audio signal guarantees a true-to-life, concert-like panorama. Dynamic Noise Covering (DNC) automatically adjusts the volume, the equalizer and music dynamics to the current noise background in the vehicle. And this feature not only regulates the level, it also adjusts the sound to the frequency spectrum of the driving noise. A spectrum analyser, fascinating effect sound options for Club, Stadium, Cathedral, Theatre and Concert as well as sound presets round out the virtually unlimited opportunities to individualize your sound! Parametric bands in DEQ Max/DEQ Max EX: For particularly easy operation and the outstanding adjustment of the complicated acoustic conditions in modern vehicles, the DEQ Max EX equalizer uses five fully parametric bands (adjustable mid frequency, quality and level) with an automatic selfadjusting function (in systems with the DEQ Max, the parametric 5-band equalizer requires manual adjustment). In addition, you can also choose individually from five pre-defined sound curves for different music styles. Automatic equalizer adjustment with the DSA Max and DEQ Max EX: To keep things simple and ensure that the best possible sound is what you get in the end, Blaupunkt has developed an automatic self-adjusting function that measures the problematic frequency response individually in every vehicle. All you have to do is to connect the calibration microphone (comes included with the Bremen MP74 and the Los Angeles MP74) with the ISO connection box and press the AUTO key in the equalizer menu. After just a few seconds, the sound will be noticeably more harmonious, richer in detail with greater differentiation, as the annoying frequency peaks are reliably balanced out. To satisfy personal tastes, all the settings can also be adjusted manually afterwards. Alternatively, the sound-related or voice-optimised sound preset curves can also be selected.

DSA Max

Regulates the volume between the front and rear stereo channels.

High pass

Active frequency crossover to control subwoofer/satellite speaker systems, whereby the music signal is faded out below a selected frequency.
DSA Max Digital Sound Adjustment Dual voice coil
DEQ Max / DEQmaxEx / DSA Max In a dual voice coil, the two lengths of wire wound around the same former can be driven separately. This provides you with greater flexibility in the configuration of your system. In a parallel hook-up (= half the impedance), the amplifier connected is able to deliver double the performance at best. For subwoofers that require a lot of power, each voice coil can be wired to a separate amplifier channel.

Fibreglass Cone

The cones used in woofers and mid-range speakers must combine stiffness and minimal weight for the best linear behaviour. The Blaupunkt fibreglass cone offers particularly pleasing resonance characteristics for a very even frequency response.

High-power output stage

Car radio output stage with watts RMS (acc. to DIN 45 324) or watts per channel of max. power, created by special high-power transistors.

FM Modulator

Functions in the same way as a small radio transmitter. It converts the incoming signals of such equipment as CD changers into radio waves in a selected frequency, which are fed into the car radio tuner through an adapter connected between the antenna input and the antenna plug. This makes it possible to connect a CD changer to any type of car radio.

ID 3 Tags

Information on artist, album, song, genre, etc. that can be stored with every MP3 file. This information can be shown in the car radio display (comparable to CD-Text).

DualZone Audio

Devices equipped with dual zone audio have preamp outs on the back that lets you connect a second signal source (e. g. tuner from the front, CD playback from the back). A separate adapter is required for the connection of headphones and remote control for the second source.

Installation kit

Mechanical adaptation of DIN car radios or speakers to different-sized, vehicle-specific installation locations. Blaupunkt offers a comprehensive programme with the perfect solution for each fitting problem.
FNM (Front Neodymium Magnet) Technology
Neodymium magnets are known for their compact, lightweight design. Thanks to neodymium magnets, it is now possible to build far lighter, flatter speakers with the same performance capabilities. The ultra-flat design is achieved through the use of FNM technology. With the neodymium magnet, which is installed in the front deep in the voice coil, the installation depth of the speaker is reduced by more than 30% and the mounting height for coaxial system set to close to 0 mm. FNM technology is used in all coaxial (ODx) and component systems (ODc) in the OD series.
Abbreviation of Digital Versatile Disc. Universal storage medium offered in a diverse range of formats (e. g. DVD-video, DVD-audio, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW)

Integrated Magnet System

To provide for greater stability, the speakers driver magnet is not screwed onto the back of the basket as usual, but rather integrated into the basket. This affords advantages not only for high-power-handling subwoofers, it also increases overall reliability.
Enhanced Other Networks. RDS
IPP (Injected Polypropylene) cone
The IPP cone developed by Blaupunkt is a mechanically very stiff cone. With the addition of a synthetic material to the conventional PP cone, the injected IPP cone become noticeably stiffer and produces a louder, more linear and precise sound in the entire frequency response range. The IPP cone is used in all coaxial, triaxial and component systems in the GT series and Th series.
Sound control, which adapts the frequency response on several frequency bands to accommodate less-than-perfect acoustic conditions and personal preferences. DEQ Max / DEQ Max EX / DSA Max

AutomaticSound

IR remote control
A handheld or steering-wheel mounted remote control unit whose signal is transmitted in the invisible infrared range. Products that are mounted on the steering wheel have been certified by the German Technical Inspection Agency (TV).

EXP technology

EXP stands for Extended Pole Piece, i. e. the pole piece of the speaker magnets is extended to allow greater linear excursion for the cone/voice coil while simultaneously reducing distortion.
GPS Global Positioning System
25 satellites orbit the Earth. On the basis of the location data they transmit constantly, it is possible to use a trigonometric formula to determine the location of a vehicle, for example, anywhere on the Earths surface.
ISO connection technology
Mechanical connection standard commonly used in the car hi-fi industry in which all of the electrical connections are combined into several blocks. The contact allocation can vary electrically depending on the radio or car manufacturer so that specific adapter cables are required even though the plugs look identical.

TA Traffic Announcement

Subsonic filter
The subsonic filter can be used with an amplifier when a subwoofer is connected. It can be set to protect the subwoofer from mechanical overload due to low frequencies that cannot be heard by the human ear. Thus, the subsonic filter is able to increase the power handling and the subjective maximum sound pressure of the subwoofer. The subsonic filter is used in all output stages of the TS series and Velocity. A corresponding adjustable filter can be switched on in the Bremen MP74.

Telematics

Functions that a service provider makes available via telecommunications, e. g. information services with position transmission, emergency call, breakdown call and off-board navigation.
