s The machine can be used only for dry sanding. s Insert the mains plug only when the machine is switched off. s Always direct the cable to the rear away from the machine. s When working with the machine, always hold it firmly with both hands and provide for a secure stance. s Always switch off the machine and allow to come to a stop before placing it down. s Never allow children to use the machine. s Bosch is only able to ensure perfect operation of the machine if the original accessories intended for it are used.
Initial Operation Use as Intended
The unit is intended for dry sanding and polishing of wood, plastic, metal, filler and coated surfaces. It is particularly suitable for working on profiles, in corners or hard-to-reach areas. Always use the correct supply voltage: The power supply voltage must match the information quoted on the tool identification plate. Tools with a rating of 230 V can also be connected to a 220 V supply.
For Your Safety
Switching on and off
Switching on: Switching off: Slide On/Off switch 3 forwards. Slide On/Off switch 3 backwards.
Working safely with this machine is possible only when the operating and safety information are read completely and the instructions contained therein are strictly followed. In addition, the general safety instructions in the enclosed booklet must be followed. Before using for the first time, ask for a practical demonstration. If the cable is damaged or cut through while working, do not touch the cable but immediately pull the mains plug. Never use the machine with a damaged cable. The dust that is produced while working can be detrimental to health, inflammable or explosive. Suitable safety measures are required. Examples: Some dusts are regarded as carcinogenic. Use suitable dust/chip extraction and wear a dust respirator. Dust from light alloys can burn or explode. Always keep the workplace clean, as blends of materials are particularly dangerous. s Do not work with materials containing asbestos.
Selecting the Oscillation Rate
With the thumbwheel 4, the rate of oscillation can be selected (also during operation).
The optimum speed depends on the material and should be determined by carrying out a practical test.
Changing the Sanding Sheet Attaching the Sanding Sheet
The sanding plate is covered with Velcro material. The sanding sheet can therefore be quickly and simply attached with Velcro fastening. Knock the dust out of the Velcro material on the sanding plate before applying the sanding sheet. Fit the sanding sheet 9 flush to side of the sanding plate and press it down. If the front point of the sanding sheet is worn, simply remove the sheet, turn it by 120 and refit. Accessories such as fleece or polishing felt are fastened to the sanding plate in the same manner.
s Wear safety goggles.
s Connect machines that are used in the open via a residual current device (RCD) with an actuating current of 30 mA maximum. Use only extension cables that are approved for outdoor use.
Removing the Sanding Sheet
Take hold of the sanding sheet 9 at one of the points and pull off. 7
Replacing the Sanding Plate
Push the SDS slider 1 to the right as far as possible () and remove the sanding plate 8. To attach the sanding plate 8, press on () and lock with the SDS slider (). If the front point of the sanding sheet is worn out, for example, the complete sanding plate can be removed and rotated by 120 reattached.
s Do not sand wood and metal with the same sanding sheet. s Use only original Bosch sanding sheets, polishing tools and accessories.
Sanding Sheet Usage
Depending on the material to be worked and the desired surface removal, various sanding sheet are available. Coated sanding sheets have a much higher service life as compared with uncoated sheets when used with the prescribed material. White Paint (sanding sheet White): especially suited for working layers of paint or vanish, res. priming like filler. Red Wood (sanding sheet Red): suited for working any wooden materials, available in 3 different versions. Black Stone (sanding sheet Black): suited for working extremely hard materials, like stone, marble, granite, ceramic, or glass.
Dust Vacuuming with the External Extractor Device
Dust extraction prevents large accumulations of dust, high concentrations of dust in the ambient air and facilitates disposal. The machine has a built-in vacuuming channel which, in conjunction with a suitable vacuum cleaner, provides external dust extraction. For extraction, a 19 mm dia. vacuum hose 6 can be connected directly to the vacuum connection 5. When using a 35-mm dia. vacuum hose, an additional adapter must be used (see accessories). The appliance can be plugged directly into the socket of a Bosch all-purpose vacuum cleaner which incorporates a remote-control start device. The vacuum cleaner automatically starts when the appliance is switched on. For long periods of working with wood or for commercial use on materials that produce dust that is detrimental to health, the machine is to be connected to a suitable external dust extraction device.
Fleece and Polishing Felt Usage
The usage of fleeces and polishing felts make possible the finishing or polishing of metal and stone in particular. Depending on the desired surface quality, various types of fleeces and polishing felts can be used.
Sanding Accessories
The attachment and removal of all sanding accessories are made in the same manner as the replacement of the sanding plate.
Louver Sanding Attachment (Fig. A)
The use of the louver sanding attachment 10 makes possible the sanding of especially hard-to-reach places, e. g., louvers on windows, cabinets and doors.
Operating Instructions
The abrasive power is determined mainly by the type of sandpaper used, and in case of using a tool with integrated electonic control system (PDA 180 E) by the pre-selected frequency. For exact sanding in corners, on edges and hard-toreach places, sanding can be done with the point alone or with one of the edges of the sanding sheet. s Only flawless sanding sheets produce good sanding results and protect the machine. s Take care to apply uniform sanding pressure; the service life of the sanding sheet is increased in this manner s An increase in the sanding pressure does not increase the sanding performance but causes increased wear to the machine and the sanding tools.
Sanding Tongue, Flat (Fig. B)
The flat sanding tongue 11 makes possible the sanding of small slots or narrow spaces, for example.
Sanding Tongue, Oval (Fig. C)
The oval sanding tongue 13 is already covered on both sides with Velcro material. Sanding sheets 12 can therefore be attached to both sides.
Maintenance and Cleaning
s Before working on machine disconnect from power supply by removing plug from socket. Always keep the machine and the ventilation slots clean. If the machine should happen to fail despite the care taken in manufacture and testing, repair should be carried out by an authorised customer services agent for Bosch power tools. For all correspondence and spare parts orders, always include the 10 digit order number from the nameplate of the machine! WARNING! Important instructions for connecting a new 3-pin plug to the 2-wire cable. The wires in the cable are coloured according to the following code:
