@alede Sorry, but what the hell are you on about? The iPhone 4 is leaps and bounds technically superior to the 3GS. If you are looking to buy an iphone i would advise you to buy a Iphone 3gs and not a Iphone 4.

The iPhone is almost as easy a phone to review as it is to use. The fourth iteration brings with it much-desired changes to the operating system. The Apple iPhone 4 is arguably the best phone on the market today. With a sleek.

The iPhone in its fourth generation and competition grew over the years to a formidable force to be reckoned with. I had decided that my first plunge into the world of the "smartphone" was going to be the iPhone with the release of the iPhone 3GS.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIREARMS SAFEIY
Please let us remind you that, as a gun owner, you accept a set of responsibilities of the most demanding nature. How seriously you carry out these responsibilities can be the difference between life and death. Mistakes made with guns are final and cannot be paid for with money or regret. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE PROPER HANDLING AND INSTRUCTlON PROCEDURES OUTLINED IN THlS BOOKLET BEFORE USING YOUR NEW FIREARM. There is no excuse for careless or abusive handling of any firearm. At all times handle this shotgun with intense respect for its force and power. Please read and practice the following cautions:

CAUTION

ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE OF YOUR SHOTGUN POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION even though you are certain the shotgun is unloaded. Never point your shotgun at anything you do not intend to shoot. Be extremely alert and aware of all persons and property within the range of your ammunition.
NEVER TRUST YOUR SHOTGUNS MECHANICAL SAFETY DEVICE. The word,
safety, describes a guns trigger block mechanism, sear block mechanism, hammer block mechanism or firing pin block mechanism. These are mechanical devices that place your gun in a SAFER status. No guarantee can be made that the gun will not fire even if the safety is in the on safe position. Like any mechanical device a safety can sometimes fail; it can be jarred or inadvertently manipulated into an unsafe condition. Mechanical safeties merely aid safe gun handling and are no excuse for pointing your shotguns muzzle in an unsafe direction. While it is a good idea to test your shotguns mechanical safety periodically for proper function, NEVER test it while your shotgun is loaded or pointed in an unsafe direction. Safe gun handling does not stop with your guns mechanical safety device. It starts there. Always treat this shotgun with the respect due a loaded, ready-to-fire firearm.
ALWAYS VISUALLY CHECK YOUR SHOTGUN to be certain that it does not inadver tently contain any ammunition. Keep the safety in the on safe position. GLANCE THROUGH EACH BARREL EVERY TIME YOU LOAD for the safety of both your gun and yourself. Mud, snow, and an infinite variety of other objects may inadvertently lodge in a barrel bore. It takes only one small obstruction to ruin (swell or rupture) the finest of shotgun barrels. ALWAYSUNLOADYOURSHOTGUNWHEN NOT IN USE. As a safety precaution it is preferable to disassemble your gun for storage. Store your gun and ammunition separately-beyond the reach of children. DO NOT PUT A 20 GAUGE SHELL IN A 12 GAUGE GUN. We strongly recommend that all shells of different gauges be stored in completely separate and well-marked containers. NEVER store shells of mixed gauges in a common container or in your pockets. EXAMINE EVERY SHELL YOU PUT IN YOUR GUN! The most certain way to bulge or rupture a barrel is to drop a 20 gauge shell
into a 12 gauge chamber. The 20 gauge shell, unfortunately, will not fall completely through the barrel; its rim is caught by the front of a 12 gauge chamber. Your gun will misfire, and under conditions of carelessness made lethal by haste, a 12 gauge shell can be loaded behind the 20. You could not deliberately have created a more serious hazard to your gun and yourself. DO NOT SNAP THE HAMMER ON A EMPTY CHAMBER-THE CHAMBER MAY NOT BE EMPTY! Treat every gun with the respect due a loaded gun-even though you are certain the gun is unloaded. KEEP YOUR FINGER AWAY FROM THE TRIGGER while unloading. BE SURE OF YOUR BACKSTOP. Know the range of your shotshells and be certain there is no chance of damage or accident. Never shoot at water or hard objects. Handle your shotgun, at all times with deep respect and alert consideration to all within its range. DO NOT CARRY YOUR SHOTGUN WITH A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER. We recommend you do not chamber a round until immediately before it is to be fired.

11. 12.

ALWAYS UNLOAD ANY GUNS CHAMBER AND MAGAZINE BEFORE CROSSING A FENCE, CLIMBING A TREE, JUMPING A DITCH or negotiating other obstacles. Never lean a loaded gun against a fence, tree, car or other similar object. BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET. Be sure no persons, livestock, buildings or other objects are behind or near your target. Be absolutely sure of your target particularly during low light periods. FOR EYE AND EAR PROTECTION we recommend that you always wear shooting glasses and hearing protection when shooting. BE DEFENSIVE. BE ON GUARD AGAINST UNSAFE GUN HANDLING around you and others. Dont be timid when it comes to gun safety. If you observe other shooters violating the above safety precautions, politely suggest safer handling practices. EDUCATE AND SUPERVISE.Stress firearms safety to all members of your family, especially to children and non-shooters. Closely supervise newcomers to the shooting sports. Encourage enrollment in hunting-shooting safety courses.

BROWNING SIDE-BY-SIDE NOMENCLATURE
In conventional gun terminology the position and movement of shotgun parts are described as the occur with the shotgun horizontal and in normal firing position; i.e. the muzzle is forward or front the butt stock is rearward or rear; the trigger i downward or underneath; the sight is upward o on top.

AMMUNITION

The current production Side-by-Side 12 Gauge Model is chambered to accept all standard factory 12 gauge 2 3/4" 2 3/4" Magnum and 3 Magnum shotshells Current production 20 Gauge Models also accept 2 3/4" 2 3/4" Magnum and 3 Magnum shotshells.

GENERAL OPERATION

This shotgun is a two-barreled shotgun with the barrels aligned side by side. It is designed primarily as
a field gun with two separately choked barrels that allow a rapid second shot when needed. The trigger is a single mechanical trigger.

BARREL SELECTOR

All current BSS models offer you the advantage of barrel selection. The barrel selector button is located in the rear of the trigger guard, convenient and easy to manipulate even while wearing gloves. Both the left and right surfaces of the selector are checkered to assure positive shifting. To fire the more openly choked, right barrel first, shift the barrel selector to the right; to fire the tighter choked left barrel first, shift the selector to the left. Highly skilled techniques of hand-fitting and polishing have been used to accomplish the hairline fitting of metal parts on this gun. These painstaking operations are necessary to prevent looseness, even after long use. You may consider your new gun to be slightly stiff. This close fitting, however, assures you of long lasting dependability.

AUTOMATIC SAFETY

The Browning Side-by-Side is equipped with an automatic safety. Whenever the breech is opened, to insert a shell or for any other reason, the safety
automatically moves to the on safe position. An S will appear above the sliding safety lever. Once the safety has been put off safe to fire a shell, it remains off safe until it is manually returned to the on safe position or until the breech is again opened. Despite this automatic safety precaution, always be certain that your gun is pointed in a safe direction, and check the safety manually or visually to avoid any chance of accidental discharge. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR SAFETY IN THE ON SAFE POSITION UNLESS YOU INTEND TO IMMEDIATELY FIRE THE SHOTGUN.

ASSEMBLY

A. BEFORE USING, clean anti-rust compound from all metal parts, paying close attention to the barrel interior and the breech area. The various exposed metal parts of your new Browning Side-By-Side gun are coated with a rust preventative compound for protection. Browning Gun Oil is especially suited to remove this compound and give your new gun its first lubrication; however, any quality gun oil may be used. B. PRIOR TO ASSEMBLY, always make certain there is no shell in the chamber. After cleaning

exposed metal areas carefully, place one or two drops of gun oil at surfaces (A) hinge pin recess of forward barrel lug; (B-C) sides of both barrel lugs; three drops on forearm bracket (one each at D, E, F), (Figure 1). C. To attach the barrels to the action, grasp the stocks pistol grip with your right hand and anchor the butt stock between your right forearm and right side. With the thumb of your right hand, move the top lever sideways to extreme right (Figure 2).

fully closing the action. Release the top lever should snap back to its central position.

Now place the butt of the guns stock against the upper leg and engage the rear portion of the forearm with the action as in (Figure 3). Pivot the forearm up

Fig. 3

to the barrel tightly. This will cause the takedown lever latch to engage onto the barrel. It may be
necessary to depress the takedown lever latch. It should be flush with the wood on the underside of the forearm. If the takedown lever latch offers resistance, tap the forearms widest part sharply toward the barrel with the heel of your hand. The takedown lever latch should then lock into position. CAUTION-In assembling your Side-By-Side, do not use undue force in closing the action. If the action and barrels are not properly aligned, undue force will only cause them to grind together and score or mar the finely fitted surfaces. If there appears to be interference, start over at Step C, being careful to mate and align the barrel lugs hinge pin recess and the receiver hinge pin properly.

LOADING AND FIRING

To load your Side-By-Side, move the top lever to the right and break open the shotgun. Insert a shell in each chamber and close the action. Visually check your safety to be certain it is in the on safe position. To fire the shotgun, push the safety forward with your thumb to the off safe position; the gun is now ready to fire on the pull of the trigger. TOP LEVER. The top lever operates the locking bolt, which is very closely hand-fitted to the barrel
lugs. Provision is made for the gradual wear of lock ing surfaces by allowing a slight excess of metal This exacting metal allowance keeps the breech o the gun tight for many years. Upon closing your gun, let the top lever snap into position-do not retard its action with your thumb If closed in this manner, the top lever spring will return the top lever mechanism to locked position It is not necessary that the top lever return to a corn pletely central position; in fact, it usually will not dc so in a new gun. Many experienced shooters cultivate the habit o! lightly pushing the top lever to the left after the gur is closed. This habit is no trouble; it becomes auto matic and is a quick method of assuring yourself that foreign matter has not interfered with the corn plete closure of the breech. The breech is so tightly hand-fitted that accumulated debris, sand, etc. mav prohibit complete closing. If this should occur, the action will not close and the safety will be locked in the on safe position making it impossible t fire the gun. Open the gun and unload it. Carefully examine the action surfaces and remove the foreign matter.

AUTOMATIC EJECTORS. The ejectors of your Side-By-Side gun are fully automatic That is, fired shells will be thrown completely out of the gun upon opening the action; unfired shells will be conveniently elevated above chamber level so they can be easily lifted out by hand for unloading.

DISASSEMBLY

A. After having made certain there is no shell in either chamber and with the action closed, anchor
the guns butt stock against the upper leg and pull the takedown lever latch outward. At the same time, grasp the forearm and with the help of the left hand pivot the forearm away from the barrels, (Figure 4). B. Break the gun in the usual manner. Carefully disengage the barrel lug from the hinge pin and lift the barrel upward out of the action. The forearm can now be reattached to the barrels for storage.

Fig. 4

DO NOT TAKE YOUR GUN APART beyond dis mounting the barrels and forearm from the action This is a specialized, finely fitted mechanism. You may hopelessly mar it, and more complete disassembly of the gun is not required for normal maintenance.

CLEANING AND OILING

The broad, polished, finely-fitted surfaces at the breech must always have a film of oil. Put one drop on the ejector slides. Put another drop on each side of the barrel receiver walls. We strongly recommend a high quality oil, not pure silicone or lanolin. After use, run a lightly-oiled cloth over all exposed metal surfaces. Do not squirt large quantities of oil inside the action. Oil will only run down into the wood which becomes soft when soaked with oil Although modern powders are noncorrosive, it is wise to occasionally run an oil patch through the barrel bore, starting the cleaning rod from the breech end. If leading develops, use a cleaning solvent and a brass brush in the barrel bore from time to time followed by one or two oil patches. Any good furniture polish or wax gives suitable protection to the stock and forearm.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that the chambers of your shotgun be cleaned thoroughly and promptly after shooting plastic shotshells. Cleaning with a good powder solvent, followed by an oiled patch is recommended.

The B-2000 is a gas operated weapon, with the gas mechanism inside the tubular magazine, and the rest of the operating mechanism in the receiver. The design of the B-2000 is such that it can fire virtually any sort of cartridge. There were several versions of the B-2000. The Chasse has a 2.75-inch chamber and a wide variety of barrel lengths; the choke is chosen by the buyer, but is fixed. There were also Chasse guns with 30 or 32-inch barrels, 3-inch chambers, and fixed Full Chokes. A 20 gauge version was also made; this gun was available with only two barrel lengths for shot, with the option of a shorter slug barrel. There were also Skeet and Trap versions; these differ only in minor details from the models above and are identical for game purposes. The B-2000 was replaced by the B-80 in 1980. The original BSS had no side locks, making the mechanism a bit less hardy and stable; in 1983, a version known as the BSS-Sidelock was built (also with parts made in South Korea) was introduced, and sold until 1988. This shotgun was designed for 12 gauge and 20 Gauge 2.75" shells, and has an English-style straight stock. The side lock made the gun more stable and also made the trigger action better. Production stopped in 1988, but the gun was introduced in 1992 as the BSL (Browning Side Lock). The parts for this gun were made by Miroku in Japan and assembled and finished by FN in Belgium. Beretta SO9 Notes: This is Premium Beretta over-and-under shotgun introduced in 1985. When introduced, the SO9 was available in 12, 20, 28, and.410 gauge and with 2.75-inch chambers, but in 1990 the 28 gauge version was dropped and the rest of the calibers were upgraded to 3-inch chambers. Like the rest of the SO series, the SO9 is made largely by hand, with very close tolerances and engraving by master artists. The SO9 uses double Greener locking with Beretta-patented strengthening, and the barrels are made from very strong Bohler Antinit cold-forged steel, with a sighting rib. The stock and fore-end is made from select walnut root. The weight of these guns is quite light for the gauge and barrel length, due primarily to the thin and lightweight yet strong barrels made possible by the Bohler Antinit steel. The guns have automatic ejectors. All of these guns except 12 gauge versions have fixed chokes (of whatever type the customer desires), but 12 gauge versions may have fixed chokes or Mobilchokes as the buyer wishes. They have single triggers with a barrel selector that also acts as the safety catch; a twin trigger is an option. plates, or have stocks of walnut. The Projet comes in the usual Fausti selection of gauges, chambers which will accept 2.75-inch or 3-inch shells, and barrels of 26, 28, or 30 inches. There are cooling grooves between the barrels, and the top barrel has a ventilated sighting rib. Locking is done with a single barrel lug, and the gun has extractors instead of shell ejectors. The Projet is normally sold with fixed chokes (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or Full), but interchangeable chokes can also be had. The Projet is made only with double triggers. The breech is normally made from dark tempered steel, but can also be had with a bare metal breech with engraving on more deluxe versions. Notes: These over-and-under hunting shotguns are regarded as some of the most attractive and well-made shotguns on the market, with highly-polished, oiled walnut stocks and polished, light alloy receivers with a stainless steel plating and intricate engraved patterns. It is also a lightweight, easy to shoot weapon. Several versions are available: the Veloce 20, in 20-Gauge; the Veloce 28, in 28-Gauge; and the Veloce Squire, with a 20-Gauge top barrel and a 28-Gauge lower barrel; and the Veloce Inglese 20 in 20 Gauge 3-inch. Most of these guns have conventional stocks made from European walnut which is oiled and polished, but the Veloce Inglese has an English-style stock and is somewhat lighter. All have a ventilated sighting rib above the top barrel, as well as Inchok interchangeable chokes. The Veloce is primarily meant for hunting fowl, but some people use it in certain competition shoots. Twilight 2000 Notes: This weapon does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline. Notes: This over-and-under shotgun is similar to the Huglu 103, though there is no 28 gauge option, and it is slightly heavier than
the Huglu 103. In addition, the Huglu 104 may have single selective trigger (with the barrel selector/safety being on the neck of the stock), or twin triggers. The Huglu 104s side plates are, if anything, more ornately-decorated than the Huglu 103s (though standard Model 104s have only a modest amount of engraving). On top of the barrels is a ventilated sighting rib, and there is a ventilated rib between the barrels for cooling. The Huglu 104 may have fixed chokes of the customers choice or interchangeable chokes (a full set consists of Full, 3/4, 1/2, and 1/4). The stock and fore-end are of fine Turkish walnut. Notes: The Huglu 200A is a side-by-side double-barreled shotgun using Greener locking, a single locking lug, and a transverse bar, and has a very strong action. This type of action is also not often used these days since it is labor-intensive to produce. The barrels are, as with most Huglu shotguns, internally hard-chromed, and can be had with fixed chokes of Full or 1/4 or a set of interchangeable chokes. The barrel rib may be recessed or raised at the customers preference. The Huglu 200A has a single selective trigger, with the barrel selector/safety on the neck of the stock. The breech block is machined from a single block of steel, and is either finished bare or blued to a black finish. The stock is of Turkish walnut with a raised cheek plate; left-handed versions are available. The Model 201 is a version of the 200A which does not have a 28 gauge option and has double triggers; it is also ornately engraved. Charles Daly Superior Grade Hunter Over-And-Under Notes: This shotgun, introduced in 1997, is basically a deluxe version of the Field Grade Hunter over-and-under shotgun. Like the side-by-side Superior Grade Hunter, this shotguns breech block is made from chrome-molybdenum steel, plated with a silver-gray coating that is intricately-engraved with either floral motifs or a hunting scene. The stock is of European walnut and has a pistol grip wrist. The weapon has a single selective trigger and automatic ejectors, The 12 gauge and 20 gauge versions have interchangeable MC-5 chokes for the barrels (a set of five different chokes), while the 28 gauge and.410 gauge have fixed chokes of either Improved Cylinder, Full, or Modified patterns. On top of the barrel is a ventilated sighting rib. A special version of this shotgun is the Superior Sport; this version has ported barrels to reduce recoil. It has automatic ejectors and a set of MC-5 interchangeable chokes. Another special version is the Superior Trap; this version is heavier than the others, comes in one barrel length (30 inches), a wide barrel rib with a fluorescent glass bead front sight, and a brass center bead rear sight. (The Superior Sport also has this rib.) The barrel is compensated and the butt has a thick recoil pad. Twilight 2000 Notes: These are very rare shotguns in the Twilight 2000 timeline. Weatherby Athena Side-by-Side Notes: This classic-style double-barreled shotgun was introduced in 2002. They are actually manufactured by the Spanish firm of Zabala, and sold by Weatherby. The Athena Side-by-Side features a slender English-style stock with a straight wrist made of excellent quality Turkish walnut, oil finished and polished by hand. Locking is of the Anson & Deeley type, with actual side locks and plates. The breech is tempered steel and the firing pins are fitted with coiled springs. The weapon has a single trigger, though twin triggers are available upon demand. The breech has automatic ejectors, and these are selective so that only spent spells are ejected. The side plates engraved with rosettes. The Athena Side-by-Side has a Briley IMC interchangeable choke system, with a full set comprising Extra Full, Full I, Full II, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, Skeet, and Cylinder. The standard gauges are 12 and 20, though 16 gauge is also available through the Weatherby Custom Shop. All use 3-inch shells. The standard barrels are 28 inches. The stock has a rubber recoil pad. A variant of the Athena Side-by-Side is the Athena DItalia; this gun was introduced in 2005. The DItalia has an action and breech milled from a single block of alloy steel and chromed with a finish known as Silver Slade. The parts are hand-fitted, and the side plates are hand-engraved. The gun comes in 12, 20, and 28 gauge models, with a 28-inch barrel for the 12 gauge model and a 26-inch barrel for the others. The 12 gauge and 20 gauge guns come in 2.75-inch and 3-inch chamber versions, and the 28 gauge comes in 2.75-inch chambers only. The DItalia has no recoil pad for the butt. Twilight 2000 Notes: These guns are not available in the Twilight 2000 timeline. The Athena Over-and-Under is a quite strong weapon, with Kersten locking, double barrel block locking, and a transverse locking lug which slide through the locking bolts. The breech has automatic shell ejectors, though unfired cartridges are merely extracted. A safety device prevents the weapon from being accidentally fired if the safety is on, even if dropped, bumped, or the trigger is pulled. The Athena Over-and-Under has a single selective trigger, with the barrel selector being a switch. From 1984, the Athena Over-and-Under was equipped with Briley interchangeable chokes; before this, the choke was fixed according to the wishes of the buyer. There are several variants of the Athena Over-and-Under. The Grade III Classic Field has a Prince of Wales oil-finished walnut stock, engraved pheasants on the side plates (inlaid with gold, and the side plates are finished silver-gray), a ventilated sighting rib above the top barrel, and cooling slots between the barrels. This shotgun was not available until 1999. The Grade IV Field was the original model, dating from 1982, and has a standard pistol grip wrist stock made of varnished American walnut, a pistol grip cap of rosewood, side plates with a silver nitrate finish (engraved with floral motifs), a sighting rib above the top barrel, cooling slots between the barrels, and a thick rubber recoil pad on the butt. The Grade V Classic Field was introduced in 1993, and has a stock of oil-finished American walnut in the Prince of Wales pattern, silver-nitrate finished side plates with light engraving, and a top barrel with a ventilated sighting rib. It differs from the Grade III Classic Field primarily in the form of the stock and the engraving, and the lack of a 28 gauge version. Tula RMB-93 Notes: This shotgun is unusual for several reasons. It may appear to the casual glance to be a typical pump-action foldingstocked tactical shotgun, but a closer look will reveal that its operation is very different from other such weapons. The RMB-93 was designed for use by Russian Internal Security and police forces, and is rarely used by the military. The RMB-93s high-capacity tubular magazine is actually on top of the barrel, with the barrel projecting out from underneath it. The pump-action is also quite different from the typical pump-action shotgun it is actually a pump-forward design, with the slide action being raked forward to eject a spent round and back again to chamber a new round. When the slide is moved, the entire barrel moves as well. Loading of the RMB-93 is done from a port in the top of the receiver, and spent shells eject from the bottom of the receiver. The trigger mechanism is DAO, with the initial trigger pull being rather long and heavy. This enhances safety, making sure inadvertent trigger pulls are not made by inexperienced or stressed police officers. Most of the metalwork is of steel, with furniture made from polymer. Metalwork may be finished in phosphate, blue, or nickel plating, as well as a variety of camouflage finishes or matte black. Sights are rifle-type; chokes are adjustable by use of screw-in choke tubes. A variant, the RM-93, is generally sold only to civilians; it is identical to the RMB-93 except for the polymer fixed stock. Twilight 2000 Notes: The RMB-93 exists only in small numbers in the Twilight 2000 timeline; the RM-93 does not exist. shotgun with a blued finish, steel metalwork, and barrels of barrels of 23.625, 25.625, or 27.5 inches, and fixed chokes which are normally Modified, Cylinder, or Improved Cylinder (though others were available upon request). Normal sights consisted of a ventilated rib above the barrel with a bead at the front of the rib, but rifle-type sights were available upon request. Standard magazines held five rounds, but this could be made smaller (depending upon the regulations of the country of the buyer) by use of plugs, and extended magazines could easily be mounted as noted earlier. There are several civilian variants of the SL-80, such as the Caccia hunting model, which primarily differs in the variety of finishes available, the addition of a recoil pad and sling swivels, and the different types of sights and ribs which could be mounted. The Special 80 was also basically identical to the standard SL-80, but was lighter due to the use of the light alloy Ergal for the receiver housing instead of steel. A Trap version was also built, which was heavier, used only a 27.5-inch barrel, a wider sighting rib with day-glo plastic front bead, and came only with a fixed choke of Improved Cylinder. A Skeet version was also built; the SL-80 Skeet came in a variety of finishes and fanciness, a 25.625-inch barrel, a wide sighting rib, and threading for variable choke tubes. A Super 80 Skeet was also produced, with the Ergal receiver. A single 20-gauge variant, the 201 SL-80, was produced; this was offered only with a 25.625-inch barrel, fixed Improved Cylinder choke, and simple notch and bead sights instead of a sighting rib. Finally, a specialized slug model was built; this version has a 21.625-inch non-rifled barrel, fully-adjustable rifle-type sights, fixed Cylindrical choke, a stock with a true pistol grip, and a rubber recoil pad on the stock. Several military and police versions of the SL-80 series were also produced, called the 121 M-1 series. The basic 121 M-1 uses a weatherproofed walnut stock with a semi-pistol grip and a standard extended magazine; the steel metalwork is blued and the stock finished so that both are almost black in appearance. The stock also includes a ventilated rubber recoil pad which is thicker than those used by civilian SL-80s equipped with recoil pads. The magazine includes a barrel brace to further strengthen the gun. The 19.75-inch barrel has a fixed Cylindrical choke. Sights are rifle-type, with the rear sight being fully adjustable and the front sight having a florescent white insert. The early 121 M-1s were unable to cycle shells without firing them; most, however, have a shutoff switch which allows manual loading and unloading of the chamber. The 121 M-1 is able to fire virtually any sort of 2.75-inch or 3inch shell, including round types which semiautomatic shotguns normally find difficult to use, such as riot-control munitions, lightpropellant loads, "hot" loads, and other wildcat combinations of propellant and/or pellets (and of course, a variety of slug types). Unfortunately, the very long recoil spring of the SL-80 series prevents the use of the folding stocks the military and police like so much, but Benelli would supply the 121 M-1 with a Choate Zytel synthetic stock and fore-end, which includes a true pistol grip instead of the semi-pistol grip wrist of the standard 121 M-1 as well as a thick ventilated rubber recoil pad. (This stock can also be put on civilian SL-80s, but it was not done by Benelli.) Production of the SL-80 series ended in 1986; the civilian versions were replaced by a variety of more specialized shotguns (both in grade and use), and the military and police versions were largely replaced by the M-1 and M-3 Super 90 versions (and later by other models). Notes: This is one of the few semiautomatic designs that Fausti has ever made, and the only one still being marketed. It is a gasoperated magnum shotgun designed for 12 gauge, and is fairly light in weight for a shotgun of its type. This is primarily due to the design of the receiver, which uses light Ergal-55 alloy in its housing to lighten the weapon. The barrel is designed to use only interchangeable chokes (whether internal or external), and is not sold in a fixed-choke version. The top of the barrel has a ventilated sighting rib. The stock and fore-end are of walnut of average quality, with the stock being of the pistol grip-wrist type. Weapon Progress Weapon Progress Franchi 48AL Notes: This shotgun first appeared in 1948, and has been continually upgraded since, with new types of wood, new metal technology, and new production methods. In its present form it is a recoil-operated semiautomatic shotgun with receiver housing of light alloy, and is to a large extent based on the Browning Auto-5 design. The type of recoil mechanism used means that while the Model 48AL will work quite well with standard shotgun shell types and loads, light loads or unusual projectiles can easily jam the mechanism; basically, any type of shell which causes low recoil energy can cause a hard jam. The 48AL (also known as the 48/AL) is unusual in that the magnum versions are separate from the versions chambered for standard-length shells. Extended magazines are available with capacities of up to 9 rounds (as well as plugged magazines with capacities as low as two rounds), but the standard magazine size is shown below. The standard Model 48AL has a matte black finish to the receiver housing, and blued barrel; a version known as the Model 48AL Black Magic has a glossy black finish for the receiver housing and a matte-black-finished barrel (but is identical to the base model for game purposes). Another, finer version, the Black Magic Hunter, is the same as the Black Magic, but has engraved hunting scenes on the sides of the receiver housing, inlaid with gold (and is also identical to base model for game purposes). The barrels of all are made from chrome-moly steel, internally hard-chromed. Earlier versions of the 12 gauge version of the Model 48AL were equipped with either fixed chokes of the buyers choice or interchangeable chokes of the Franchok or Variomix types; however, since 1995, the 12 gauge Model 48AL has been sold with Inchok interchangeable chokes. The type of alloy used in the receiver housing has also been changed, lightening the weapon. The 20 and 28 gauge models have also been equipped with the same chokes (both past and present), but the 28 gauge model is available in one barrel length, while several are available for the 20 gauge version. There is two further versions of the Model 48AL which bear mentioning. The top-of-line Model 48 Fenice has a stock and fore-end made from select European walnut root, and the receiver housing is made from silver-finished light alloy, with engraved bird scenes inlaid with gold; it comes only with a 2.75" chamber and only with a 26-inch barrel. The Model 48AL Slug Gun is designed only for 12 gauge 2.75" shells, and has a 24-inch barrel and rifle-type sights. (Other versions of the Model 48AL have a sighting rib.) The Slug Gun is identical to the 24-inch-barrel 12 gauge version for game purposes. The 48AL (and Franchi shotguns in general) were for a long time sold in North America by Stoeger and later by FIE, but are now sold by Heckler & Koch in North America (though still under the Franchi name). Twilight 2000 Notes: The 1995+ versions were produced only in a very short run, making them quite rare; Franchi turned its production almost exclusively to military and police production after this point. The Fenice version was never produced. Mossberg M-5500 Notes: This model of shotgun was added to the Mossberg line in 1983, and then quickly withdrawn, being out of production by 1986. A Mk II version was introduced in 1988, with several reliability improvements as well as an increased ability to accept a variety of optics and after-market add-ons, but it too was off the market by the mid-1990s. (For game purposes, the two are identical.) The M-5500 is basically a variant of the Mossberg M-500. The Model 5500 was primarily designed for sporting and due to its small magazine is not really suitable for combat use. Various barrel lengths are available, but the 4-round tubular magazine was standard for all versions, though a variety of extended magazines with capacities of up to 9 rounds are available. Magnum and standard-length cartridge versions were built, though they are separate versions of the M-5500. The furniture of the M-5500 is synthetic, with metalwork being largely of various grades of steel. The reliability of the M-5500 is considered excellent, as is the workmanship, and those found today still function just as well. Unfortunately, the small standard magazines limited their sales. Nonetheless, Mossberg did come out with a stockless version for home defense and police use (the Cruiser) with an 18.5-inch barrel, and a combat model known as the Guardian (that is not significantly different from the standard 5500 other than a shorter barrel length of 18.5 inches). Folding stock versions (based on the Cruiser) are also seen regularly, though these are the result of after-market modifications and not of Mossberg manufacture. It was designed for those who have a lot of problems with the recoil of traditional shotguns, and therefore has not only a thick rubber recoil pad on the butt, but Mossbergs Soft Shooting System, which is a mechanism that further decreases felt recoil. This also allows the use of many different standard and Magnum loads. The M-9200 has metalwork largely of steel (except for minor parts like the trigger guard, and furniture of walnut or synthetic material. (Synthetic stocks and fore-ends are standard, however). A Bantam stock can also be had for smaller shooters; this stock has a 1-inch shorter length of pull. Finishes for the metalwork include a matte black finish which Mossberg calls the Viking finish, blued, Parkerized, stainless Marine finish, and several camouflage patterns. Colors for wooden furniture range from a light tan to

Remington 1100 Sporting Notes: This variant of the Model 1100 is designed primarily for bird hunting and skeet shooting, and has a long barrel, sighting rib, and a decent heft for its size, not too light or heavy. It appeared in 1996. The Remington 1100 action is a bit dated, but utterly reliable, and by 2004, the Remington 1100 Sporting 410 is the only.410-gauge shotgun being made in the US by any major firearms manufacturer. The Model 1100 Sporting has a walnut stock and a chrome-molybdenum-steel barrel with interchangeable chokes of Skeet, Improved Cylinder, Light Modified, and Modified. A variant of the Model 1100 Sporting is the Model 1100 Classic Trap; this version has a longer barrel, a recoil pad on the Monte Carlo-style stock, a blued barrel and mechanism, and interchangeable chokes. The trigger has gold plating. This version appeared in 2000. Twilight 2000 Notes: This shotgun does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline. It is meant for children and young teens to introduce them to hunting and trap shooting. The short shells and small caliber do not make especially effective as an antipersonnel weapon or for hunting large animals or birds, but it is easy to handle and take care of. Developed from the Remington 1100, the Model 7188 was a fully-automatic version of that weapon, with some other modifications requested by the SEALs. Though these weapons were never large in number, the Mk 1 version was the most common of them; it had a perforated barrel shroud, extended tubular magazine, bayonet mount, and adjustable rifle sights. The Mk 2 was identical, but used a ventilated barrel rib and front bead sight of a standard shotgun. The Mk 3 was also identical to the Mk 1 but did not have the perforated barrel shroud. The Mk 4 was a Mk 3 with standard shotgun-style sights. The Mk 5 was also similar to the Mk 1, but did not have an extended magazine, and also did not have the perforated barrel shroud. The Mk 6 was identical to the Mk 5, but had standard shotgun-style sights. While the SEALs liked the fantastic destructive power of the Model 7188 (especially with the custom loads they tended to use), they found the Model 7188 had one big problem: it was highly-sensitive to dirt and fouling, and this made it quite unsuited for general use in Vietnam. In addition, the enormous recoil of a full-auto burst (even at the low cyclic rate of the Model 7188) was difficult to control, and even with an extended magazine, the ammunition supply was thought to be too small by many SEALs. There were never more than a couple of dozen of each Mark of the Model 7188 made, and they were withdrawn from service within a few years, a weapon experiment that ultimately failed. Some were converted back to semiautomatic fire; though this essentially turned them back into Remington 1100s (albeit, with unique markings and an unusual selector lever), they were designated Model 7180s.
