Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 20 August, 2007: Canon today announces the launch of two new additions to its CanoScan range: the CanoScan 8800F and CanoScan LiDE90. Benefiting from zero warm-up time and faster scan speeds, the 4800dpi CanoScan 8800F is up to 6 times quicker than its predecessor, the 8600F. Replacing the LiDE 70, the designer-styled CanoScan LiDE90 offers faster scanning speeds and a more compact form, making it the smallest CIS (Contact Image Sensor) scanner in its class. Faster Due to the addition of new white LEDs for film and reflective scanning, the CanoScan 8800F is ready to scan from power on with no warm-up time required. formats, including 12 frames of 35mm film strip (negative/positive), 4 mounted slides and 120 format film (max 6x22cm). Automatic correction Automatic image correction capabilities on both scanners reduce the need for manual retouching. Canons advanced QARE technology automatically removes dust and scratches, restores faded colours in old photographs and reduces graininess. Software Canon MP Navigator EX Comprehensive input software for managing and editing scanned images and documents. Version EX has been developed to offer users several improved features: easier search and image selection facilities, more user-friendly PDF editing features, and a selection of image correction and enhancement options.
Canon ScanGear Manages workflows in either Simple or Advanced modes in the latter floating palettes allow fine adjustment of Histogram, Brightness & Contrast, Tone Curve and Gamma. Technologies Explained

FARE When scanning film, visible light is used to generate the image, but this also captures the dust and scratches. FARE (Film Automatic Retouching Enhancement) works by also using infrared (non-visible) light. Infrared passes through the surface imperfections, creating a map of defects. Intelligent software then corrects these defects virtually eliminating the effect of dust and scratches. Reconstruction of colour corrects the effects of aging by resaturating faded colours in old photographs and a grain correction function reduces graininess resulting from the use of fast (high ASA) film. To improve images with heavy backlighting, FARE Level 3 uses a backlight correction function to detect precisely which areas of the image need correction. It adjusts only the gamma of those areas, resulting in superior quality, more balanced images. QARE QARE uses intelligent software to provide similar functionality to FARE, but for reflective scan, such as photo prints.
