DVD made easier Other Canon Mini DV went phut so went for next generation. Super. Just got back from holiday in Switzerland and camera performed well. Camera, Action! A neat little camera.
Easy to use, good quality playback.
A bit on the shakey side though and sound not great.

I found this product cheaper at another site great for all types of cameras. I set the camera on my tripod. and i zoom to a park car , located at 326 Yards using X48 advance optical zoom. i was really amazed with this camera.

I love the size and speed of the camera, the built in 16gb of memory is great and is much faster than HD models. I am very satisfied with my purchase. This a nice stylish camcorder, I bought it for my parents.

Overview
Key to enjoying the superb video produced by the latest Canon High Denition and Standard Denition camcorders is sharing that video with family and friends. Now, its easier than ever to transfer and backup footage from your camcorder onto DVDs with the Canon DW-100 DVD Burner. Created to provide data backup for Canon Hard Disk Drive and Flash Memory camcorders, the DW-100 allows you to connect to a Canon VIXIA HG10, VIXIA HF10, and VIXIA HF100 as well as the FS11, FS10 and FS100 camcorders to download video and burn AVCHD or Standard Denition DVDs. Still images captured in your compatible Canon camcorder can also be sent to the DW-100 and from them a photo movie can be created. The DW-100 will also play back the AVCHD discs created in the burner on an HDTV monitor through your HG10 or VIXIA HF10 or VIXIA HF100 camcorder.

Features

Simple and Easy

The DW-100 is easy to use. Three buttons- power, record and eject- are all you need to backup your video. With a simple connection to your camcorder using the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed cable you can send the video information to the DW-100 to create your DVD.
The DW-100 is compatible with the Canon VIXIA HG10, VIXIA HF10, VIXIA HF100 high denition camcorders as well as the Canon FS11, FS10 and FS100 standard denition camcorders. It will create AVCHD as well as Standard Denition DVDs which will play in compatible disc players. In addition, you may use your AVCHD camcorder along with the DW-100 to play back AVCHD discs which have been created in the DW-100 on an HDTV monitor. Just connect the burner to your VIXIA HG10, VIXIA HF10 or VIXIA HF100 camcorder and use the HDMI or Component terminal on the camcorder to connect with the HDTV to view the content of the disc. When nalizing AVCHD or Standard Denition video from your camcorder, the DW-100 can also create a menu screen for use when performing this operation.

Backup Options
You can choose from three data backup methods with the DW-100. The entire media le may be transferred from the camcorder; or just those portions which are new or have changed; or your Playlist registration. All of these are available for both High Denition or Standard Denition footage. Its also possible to transfer photos taken on your Canon VIXIA HG10, VIXIA HF10, VIXIA HF100, FS11, FS10 and FS100 camcorder. The DW-100s Photomovie creation function will convert all jpeg les into a photomovie for storage or for viewing on your television.

Extended Recording Time

The DW-100 is compatible with 8.5GB High Capacity DVD-R DL discs. You will have approximately 2.6 hours of recording time when using a DL disc at the SP setting.

Charging the Canon

(Back to top) The first (and last) step is to charge your camera: there arent many outlets in classrooms and the next person may not have time. Plug the power cord in on the right side under the tab. When the red light on the left side blinks, the camera is charging. When it stops, the camera is fully charged.

Using an SD chip

(Back to top) Your camera can record onto its hard drive or onto an SD memory chip (see below for directions on how to choose between these). To use an SD chip, open the cover on the bottom of the camera and insert the chip with the sticker side toward the back end of the camera.

Using a tripod

(Back to top) To mount your camera on a tripod, youll need to detach the square on the top fo the tripod, screw it onto the bottom of your camera, then reattach the square to the tripod. Please dont lose the square or forget to put it back when youre donethe tripod is useless without it!

Video quality and memory

Turn on the camera by pressing the on/off button on the top. Open the LCD screen on the left side: here youll be able to see what youre recording. On the bottom left corner of the LCD screen, is the Function button. By pressing this, you have a menu of options to scroll through using the joystick on the left. Scroll down to the option that lets you choose the Play format (XP, SP, LP), and press the joystick to select it. This controls the file size higher quality = bigger file = less digital memory time available. Extended play (XP) will give you highest image quality for the shortest time; long play (LP) will give you the lowest image quality for the longest time.
Canon FS11 TE802/VBRRScroll down one further on the options menu and press the joystick. On this new menu of options, scroll down to Memory operations and press the joystick. From the memory options, choose Media: movies; from the media options, choose between built-in memory or card. Now youre ready to recordjust press the big button on the back end!

Connecting to iMovie

(Back to top) Once youve recorded, you can review your clips on the camera by turning the wheel at the back end. When you know what clips you want to download, youre ready to connect the camera to your MAC laptop/iMAC. For SD chip clips, remove the chip, fold out the USB plug, and insert it into your laptops USB port. iMAC For hard drive clips, connect the white cord to the camera and to your computers USB port. iMovie should automatically recognize the camera if its active. If it doesnt, click the iMovie icon on your desktop.

If iMovie is open, and hasnt recognized your camera, click the button that looks like a camera (on the bar in the middle). In a new window, your cameras/chips digital clips should show up.To import clips from the camera (or chip) into iMovie, choose the clips you want to download and click the Import button in iMovie. A progress bar should appear. This is a good time to take a break and have a snack. iMovie version 08

Deleting your clips from the camera
Once your clips have downloaded to iMovie, youre ready to begin editing (see Using iMovie). If youre sure you have all the clips you need, you can unplug your camera from the laptop and begin deleting your clips from the camera in order to leave it clear for the next person. To delete, turn the wheel at the back end of the camera to review your clips. Press the Function button at the bottom left of the LCD screen; a series of menu options appears at the bottom of the screen. Use the joystick on the left side of the LCD screen to move across to the trashcan icon; press the joystick and follow the directions.
