Powerful Advanced Zoom introduced across new MiniDV line up
Hi-res versions of these and other images can be downloaded from http://www.canoneurope.com/press_centre/image_library/index.asp
Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 07 January, 2008: Canon launches the new MD200 series a range of accessible MiniDV camcorders that introduce Canons new, powerful Advanced Zoom. Advanced Zoom combines the quality of a genuine Canon video lens with the power of the DIGIC DV processor, 1 resulting in zoom ranges that extend as high as 45x magnification. 2 Each camcorder offers true widescreen recording, easy and intuitive operation, and the advantage of Canons Quick Start feature. With a number of models on offer, the MD200 series caters for a wide variety of needs from Megapixel CCD recording to camcorders that feature a microphone input connection. The new MD200 series camcorders bring affordable, high quality home moviemaking to even more consumers, said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. Easy to use and small enough to take anywhere, this new range of MiniDV models is the perfect way for anyone to catch the moviemaking bug. The top-of-the-range MD255 features: Canons new Advanced Zoom, offering up to 45x magnification Megapixel video recording and still photography features

Advanced Zoom Advanced Zoom is an innovation that provides users with the ability to capture distant events such as a concert or a school sports day in amazing clarity. Combining the quality of a genuine Canon lens with the processing power of the unique DIGIC DV image processor, enhanced zoom capability is possible without compromising image quality. True Widescreen Nearly every television set sold today offers true widescreen playback but not every camcorder does. However, all MD200 series camcorders benefit from Canons True Wide High Resolution 16:9 recording system. Allowing anyone to capture stunning, panoramic movie footage, each camcorder also incorporates a widescreen 2.7 LCD the ideal way to preview movies in the correct dimensions. Right down to the widescreen EVF (Electronic Viewfinder), each model is geared for true widescreen. Complete package: stills and video The MD255 is a complete imaging package: as well as recording high quality video via its Megapixel CCD, the camcorder captures digital photographs to SD or SDHC (High Capacity) memory cards. Via the camcorders USB 2.0 Hi Speed connection, photos can be either printed directly on a PictBridge compatible printer or transferred to a computer. To manage images, a Canon Software Solution Disk is provided.
Easy to use With a compact, sculpted shape, each camcorder in the range is designed for perfect shooting comfort. The one-push Easy shooting mode automatically takes control of all key settings, allowing novice users to begin shooting immediately. For more control over advanced settings, a Joystick at the edge of the LCD screen can be used to navigate onscreen menus. New LCD video light New to Canon camcorders in 2008, the 2.7 LCD can also be used as a video light when turned to face forwards. This allows close-up subjects to be captured in poor lighting conditions. Microphone input Great movies always deserve a great soundtrack. But sometimes audio capture can prove to be a problem especially in environments where there is excessive background noise, such as a school play or a busy conference hall. A microphone

input connection allows users to attach an external microphone to the camcorder, giving more control over sound. Full control from anywhere in the room Unlike traditional remotes that can only be used when standing in front of the lens, Canons new multiangle remote control allows users to operate the camcorder from almost any angle an additional sensor on the LCD screen simply needs to be directed towards the users position. Quick Start While most camcorders take several seconds to power up after being switched on, Quick Start powers up the camcorder almost instantly. With one push of the dedicated Quick Start button, the camcorder rests in Standby mode, conserving battery power. With one more push of the button, the camcorder is ready to record in less than one second. Quick Start allows users to capture precious memories that they might otherwise miss a childs first steps, for instance, or a matchwinning goal. Ends

Technologies Explained

DIGIC DV DIGIC DV is a digital signal processor that is unique to Canon camcorders. As a core Canon technology it provides split path processing of separate video and photo signals in the camcorder. Video and still images have different colour requirements, so DIGIC DV processes the signals individually, maximizing each for output. DIGIC DV processing delivers rich and vibrant colours that are faithful to the original shooting subject, whether seen on a television screen or printed out as a photograph.
