| Pefect for the HFS10/HFS100! Perfect, fits like a charm and has extra room for accessories and memory card slots. Too big for canon hfs-10 camera This case is too large for the camera.... Canon SCA70 soft case I own a Canon HV30 camcorder and the SC-A70 soft case stores it perfectly. Also, there is room for two batteries. | |

Basic Operation Instructions for the Canon ZR-500 Mini DV camera.
Here's the operational view of the camera with battery attached, viewscreen extended, and standing by in camera mode.
This is the power switch that also toggles between camera and playback mode.
The viewscreen is now in standby widescreen mode. An icon in the upper right of the screen will say WIDE when widescreen mode is selected. The camera should always be set to record in normal mode. Beneath it is a joystick to navigate the playback mode, and buttons to navigate menus. Use the button on the far right to switch to normal record mode. For further instruction, please refer to the owner's manual. This is the viewscreen in normal record mode. Notice how the picture in the viewscreen doesnt reach the vertical edges of the screen, and there is no widescreen icon in the display. For simple point and shoot recording, only the joystick is used for playback navigation.
The tape compartment is found at the bottom end of the camera. Push and slide the tab to the right, and lift the hood to open compartment. Insert tape, and with the outer door to the compartment, gently close the inner door to the tape tray. Let the camera retract with the tape, and gently close the outer door completely. Also observe the warnings on the camera itself. The camera should be set in Easy mode for point and shoot recording, and optical zoom control via the wide - telephoto thumb lever.
The lens is now protected with the lens shield switch in the upright position. If you are not seeing anything in the display screen while in record mode, check this switch and make sure its in the down position, and the lens elements are visible. With the camera power off, the battery in the compartment, and the power supply connected, the battery will recharge. A full recharge will take about two hours from a completely dead battery. Notice the red indicator light on the left. It will flash once at 25% charged, twice at 50% charged, three times at 75% charged and remain on when the battery is fully charged. This tutorial covered the basics of point and shoot operation. To use more complex features of the camera, we recommend you read through the owner's manual.
At the very back of the camera is the battery in the slot, above it is the battery release button, and to the right is the record/pause button switched in operation with the thumb.

DANGER! Treat the battery pack with care. Keep it away from fire (or it might explode). Do not expose the battery pack to temperatures higher than 60 C (140 F). Do not leave it near a heater or inside a car in hot weather. Do not try to disassemble or modify it. Do not drop or knock it. Do not get it wet. Charged battery packs continue to discharge naturally. Therefore, charge them on the day of use, or the day before, to ensure a full charge. Attach the terminal cover whenever a battery pack is not in use. Contact with metallic objects may cause a short circuit and damage the battery pack. Dirty terminals may cause a poor contact between the battery pack and the camcorder. Wipe the terminals with a soft cloth. Since storing a charged battery pack for a long time (about 1 year) can shorten its lifecycle or affect performance, we recommend to discharge the battery pack fully and to store it in a dry place at temperatures no higher than 30 C (86 F). If you do not use the battery pack for long periods, charge and discharge it fully at least once a year. If you have more than 1 battery pack, perform these precautions at the same time for all battery packs. Although the battery packs operating temperature range is from 0 C to 40 C (32 F to 104 F), the optimal range is from 10 C to 30 C (50 F to 86 F). At cold temperatures, performance will temporarily decline. Warm it in your pocket before use. Replace the battery pack if the usable time after full charge diminishes substantially at normal temperatures.
About the battery terminal cover
The battery terminal cover has a [ ]-shaped hole. This is useful when you wish to differentiate between charged and uncharged battery packs. For example, with charged battery packs, attach the terminal cover so that the [ ]-shaped hole shows the blue label.

Lithium Button Battery Handling Precautions
WARNING! The battery used in this device may present a fire or chemical burn hazard if mishandled. Do not recharge, disassemble, heat above 100 C (212 F) or incinerate the battery. Replace the battery with a CR1616 made by Panasonic, Hitachi Maxell, Sony, Toshiba, Varta or Renata. Use of other batteries may present a risk of fire or explosion. Do not pick up the battery using tweezers or other metal tools as this will cause a short circuit. Wipe the battery with a clean dry cloth to ensure proper contact. Keep the battery out of reach of children. If it is swallowed, seek medical assistance immediately. The battery case may break and the battery fluids may damage stomach and intestines. Do not disassemble, heat or immerse the battery in water to avoid the risk of explosion.
Cassette Handling Precautions
Rewind tapes after use. If the tape becomes slack and damaged, it may cause picture and sound distortion. Return cassettes in the case and store them upright. Do not leave the cassette in the camcorder after use. Do not use spliced tapes or nonstandard cassettes as they may damage the camcorder. Do not use tapes that have been jammed as video heads may become dirty. Do not insert anything into the small holes of the cassette, or cover them with cellophane tape. Handle cassettes with care. Do not drop or subject them to severe impact as this may damage the cassettes. Rewind tapes from time to time if they are stored for a long time. With cassettes equipped with a memory function, metal plated terminals may become dirty with use. Clean the terminals with a cotton swab after about 10 times of loading/ unloading. The memory function is not supported by the camcorder.
Protecting Tapes from Accidental Erasure
To protect your recordings from accidental erasure, slide the tab on the cassette to the left. (This switch position is usually labeled SAVE or ERASE OFF.) If you load a protected cassette in CAMERA mode, the message THE TAPE IS SET FOR ERASURE PREVENTION appears for approx. 4 seconds and starts flashing. If you wish to record on that cassette, slide the tab back to the right.
