I use the camera at the ice rink. I find if you are within 8 to 10 feet of the object you would like to record, the camera is fine. The reason I purchased this Canon ZR65 was because of the companys reputation.

After have had the heads cleaned several times, there has been no improvement in playback quality. Replaced tapes, cleaned heads and no improvement.

Decent picture. Decent sound. Plenty of special effects. Very limited life expectancy as a recorder. Noisy. Screen stabilization not very good.

After receiving the ZR-65MC, I read reviews and wondered if my wife made a good decision. The low level light problem might be at ultra low levels.
silent_worker 1:05pm on Friday, April 9th, 2010
Lets be realistic... Its a fine camera for snapshots & short movies & self improvement The weight makes my wrist sore if used too long. I own a Canon ZR65MC. I was fine with what the camera offered at the price I paid. I purchased it new from one of the shopping channels.

DIGITAL VIDEO CAMCORDER

Share All the Wonder and Excitement of Life

www.canondv.com

Designed for point and shoot simplicity, Canon's new ZR70 MC /ZR65 MC /ZR60 camcorders allow everyone to great results without any effort at all. Place the camcorder in your hand, and it fits comfortably and securely, like you've owned it for years. No learning curve is necessary as soon find yourself shooting crisp, vibrant video and life-like digital photos, just by pressing a single button. Connect your camcorder to a computer running Windows or Mac Operating Systems, and experience the digital world like it was meant to be, quick, seamless, and fun. Canon, the trusted name in optics for decades, has made capturing memories more convenient, exciting, and easier than ever.

DV Format

MiniDV is the new preferred format for personal and broadcast-quality video, highly regarded for its high audio and image quality. With up to 540 lines of horizontal resolution and minimum color noise, MiniDV delivers a 20% clearer picture than analog camcorder formats. All this, in a handy, super-compact cassette.
22x Optical Zoom Lens (ZR70 MC ) 20x Optical Zoom Lens (ZR65 MC ) 18x Optical Zoom Lens (ZR60)
What sets a Canon camcorder apart from all the others? Its the only camcorder made by a company renowned for high-quality professional optics. Our vast expertise in designing and crafting precision lenses for 35mm and broadcast TV cameras also goes into every camcorder lens we make. The ZR70 MC , ZR65 MC and ZR60s optical zoom lens delivers superb definition and contrast, taking full advantage of the DV format. The digital zoom extends the camcorders magnification revealing details too small to see with the naked eye. With the ZR70 MC , you can attach the supplied WA-30.5 Wide Attachment which decreases the focal length by a factor of 0.6, giving you a wide perspective for indoor shots or panoramic views.

Image Stabilizer

A high quality image stabilization system corrects camcorder shake instantly, so your videos always look smooth, steady and natural even when shooting hand-held at full telephoto.

Image Stabilizer OFF

440x Digital When attaching the Wide Attachment 0.6x to the ZR70 MC 22x Image Stabilizer ON

Program Auto Exposure

While the Easy Recording mode is fine for most shooting situations, the camcorder also includes additional preprogrammed auto exposure modes (Auto, Sports, Portrait, Spotlight, Sand & Snow, Low Light and Night mode), each carefully designed to give you the best possible image results under special shooting conditions. In situations normally too dark for recording, the camcorder uses the Night mode to select the ideal shutter speed and sensitivity combination to brighten up the scene, without sacrificing color.

Manual Controls

The fully-automatic ZR70 MC , ZR65 MC and ZR60 gives great results even in the hands of a novice, while experts will appreciate the manual focus, exposure, white balance and shutter speed controls.
Super Night Mode and Low Light Plus Mode (ZR70 MC only)
Even when the light has faded, you can keep on shooting with the ZR70 MC s Super Night mode (in Camera mode) and Low Light Plus mode (in Card Camera mode). The assist lamp lights up to illuminate the subject allowing you to capture the action without turning the lights on.

Audio dubbing will stop if the tape has a blank section or a section recorded in LP mode, 16-bit or 12-bit 4-channel sound. In above case, create a copy in SP mode 12-bit audio sound using the analog line-in function. Do not connect/disconnect any cable to/from the camcorder while dubbing. You cannot use the DV terminal for audio dubbing. If you add sound to a tape not recorded with this camcorder, sound quality may decrease. Sound quality may decrease when you add sound to the same scene for more than 3 times.

File Numbers

Images are automatically assigned file numbers from 0101 to 9900 and stored in folders containing up to 100 images. Folders are assigned numbers from 101 to 998. (The sample images on the supplied memory card are saved in the [100canon] folder.) You can choose to use consecutive file numbers (CONTINUOUS) or to reset the file
number each time a different memory card is inserted (RESET). We recommend setting the file numbers to CONTINUOUS.

CONTINUOUS

The camcorder memorizes the file number of the last image and assigns the consecutive file number to the next image, even when a new memory card is inserted. (If a higher file number already exists on the memory card, the consecutive number will be assigned.) There will be no duplication of file numbers. This is useful for organizing images on a computer.
The file number will be reset each time a new memory card is inserted, starting with 101-0101. If the memory card already contains image files, the consecutive file number will be assigned. 102

Maintenance
Camcorder Handling Precautions
Do not carry the camcorder by the LCD panel or viewfinder. Do not leave the camcorder in places subject to high temperatures, such as a sunheated car, and high humidity. Do not use the camcorder in places subject to magnetic or electric fields such as near the TV transmitters or portable communication devices. Do not point the lens or viewfinder at strong light sources. Do not leave the camcorder pointed at a bright subject. Do not use the camcorder in dusty or sandy places. Dust or sand getting inside the cassette or camcorder may cause damage. Dust and sand can also damage the lens. Attach the lens cap after use. The camcorder is not waterproof. Water, mud or salt getting inside the cassette or camcorder may cause damage. Be careful of heat generated by lighting equipment. Do not disassemble the camcorder. If the camcorder does not function properly, consult qualified service personnel. Handle the camcorder with care. Do not subject the camcorder to shocks or vibration as this may cause damage. Avoid sudden changes in temperature. Moving the camcorder rapidly between hot and cold temperatures may cause condensation to form on its internal surfaces. ( 143)

Storage

If you do not intend to use the camcorder for a long time, store it in a place free of dust, in low humidity, and at temperatures not higher than 86F (30C). After storage, check the functions of your camcorder to make sure that the camcorder is still working properly.

Cleaning

Camcorder Body and Lens
Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camcorder body and lens. Never use chemically treated cloth or volatile solvents such as paint thinner.

LCD Screen

Clean the LCD screen using a commercially available cleaning cloth for glasses. Condensation may form on the surface of the screen when the temperature changes suddenly. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. 141
At cold temperatures, the screen may be darker than usual. This is not a malfunction. The screen returns to normal when the camcorder warms up.

Viewfinder

Rotate the viewfinder upward. Remove the protect cover and clean the glass with a cotton swab. Reattach the protect cover when finished. Be careful not to scratch the glass when cleaning.
