Great phone! This is a brilliantly robust phone for a builder. The signal even seems better cos we are in a very hit and miss area.

Does the Sonim have a GPS? Seems like a natural thing for an outdoors indestructible phone for Mountain Biking etc. I have been waiting for a very basic rugged phone for quite some time now, for this fits the bill for sure in terms of ruggedness.

Bracket
Secure the wire along the fork with the nylon ties 6, and along the front brake cable with the spiral tube 7. Apply the bracket rubber pad 5 to the bracket 1, so that the band fits the handlebar. Fix it with the screw. Note: Allow enough wire 1 clearance in the area marked with to insure you can turn the handlebars all the way from side to side without pulling the wire.

Main Unit

Slide the main unit until it clicks into position. The contact is automatically connected. To remove, slide it forward while pushing the lever.

Install the main unit onto the bracket 1. Spin the front wheel and see if the speed appears in the display. If not, re-adjust the position of the sensor 3 and the magnet 4 so that it meets the conditions A and B in the Important column.

Precautions

Do not concentrate too much on the computer operations while riding. Be sure to securely mount the magnet, sensor and bracket on your bicycle, and periodically check to insure they are mounted securely. Used batteries must be disposed of properly and in accordance with all local regulations. Do not leave the main unit exposed to direct sunlight. Never disassemble the computer. To clean the computer, use mild soap and a soft cloth. Wipe dry with a soft cloth. Paint thinner, benzine, alcohol or other chemicals may damage the surface.

The speed sensor, handlebar bracket and wheel magnet should be installed first.

SETTING UP

NOTE: To utilize previously accumulated Odometer data, refer to the section Manually Replacing Mileage into Odometer described in the last section of this manual. The following set up is required before use: 1. Find the Wheel Calibration Number (Length of Tire Roll-Out)

L cm Determine the length of the tire (Length in centimeters) from the Cross Reference Table. Alternately, you can find the most accurate wheel calibration number by rolling the tire on the ground. In this method, properly inflate the tires, sit on the bike and measure the distance of one wheel SET Button length. This distance in centimeters is the most accurate number. (Inches X 2.45 = Centimeters)

Installation Important

Attach the sensor and the magnet properly so that their positions meet the following conditions A and B. Align the magnets 4 center and the sensors 3 marking line while rotating the wheel.
2. Perform the ALL CLEAR OPERATION to clear the computer and ALL CLEAR set the speed scale: Fig. 2 OPERATION

Press the SET Button while pressing the MODE and START/STOP(S) Buttons (ALL CLEAR OPERATION: Fig. 2). The entire memory of the computer will be erased, and the complete screen will light up and then all fade away, leaving a flashing K on the screen. A press on the MODE Button will display K and M alternately (Fig. 3). Select your desired speed scale. Then press the START/STOP(S) Button to set the scale. The display moves to the next screen.

3. Set the Wheel Circumference.
The clearance between the sensor 3 and the magnet 4 should be less than 5 mm.

Attach the sensor 3 temporarily, with the adhesive tape, to the inside of the right front fork.

The number 210 (typical wheel circumference for 700x23C tires) will be displayed (Fig. 4). Input the number from step 1 above. Attach the magnet 4 to the right side spoke of the front wheel. Adjust the position of the sensor 3 and the magnet 4 so that it meets the conditions A and B in the Important column. Fix the sensor 3 with the nylon ties 6.

Switching of Hours and Minutes
For setting the CLOCK, the TIME function must be turned off and the speed scale symbol (either M for Miles or K for Kilometers) must not be flashing (Fig. 5). The CLOCK is set to either 24HOUR or 12-HOUR depending on the SPEED SCALE selected. In K (kilometers), a 24-HOUR CLOCK is selected, while in M (miles), a 12-HOUR CLOCK is selected. 1. In the TIME Function(Tm), hold down the MODE Button, the mark will appear. This is an indication that you are in the CLOCK function. 2. Press the SET Button. The HOURS will flash. Use the MODE Button to change/advance the number, and the ST./STOP(S) Button to switch between HOURS and MINUTES. 3. Press the SET Button to set the CLOCK.

Maintenance

When the computer or the contact of bracket gets wet, dry it off with a cloth. Rusting will cause the speed detection error. When dirt or small grains of sand get jammed between push buttons and the main unit, push buttons may not be smoothly operated. When this has occurred, just wash them away with water.

Trouble-Shooting

No display Has the battery in the main unit run out? Replace it with a new one, and do all clear operation. Incorrect data appears on the screen. Perform the ALL CLEAR OPERATION. (If possible, take note of the Odo data before performing the ALL CLEAR OPERATION, and enter it again later. Current speed does not appear. (When this has occurred, short-circuit the contact of the main unit several times by using a small metal piece. If the speed display appears, the computer is working fine. The problem may be attributed to the bracket or the sensor.) Is the wire damaged? A damaged wire might not be visible. Replace the bracket sensor with a new one. Is the distance between the sensor and the magnet too great? Re-adjust the position of the sensor and the magnet. (Clearance: approx. 5 mm) Is there anything sticking on the contact of the main unit or of the bracket? Clean the contact with a soft cloth.

Changing the Data Displayed
Pressing the MODE Button changes the data displayed on the screen as shown in Fig. 6. A single press of the button will switch to the next main mode, and a holding down of the button for 2 seconds or longer will switch to the sub-mode. To get back to the main mode from the sub-mode, just press the MODE button.

Replacing the Battery

When the display gets lighter, it is the sign of battery replacement. In order to continue the accumulation of Odo data, take note of the data before replacing the battery. Insert a new lithium battery (CR2032) with the (+) pole facing up (Fig. 14). Perform the ALL CLEAR OPERATION after replacing the battery, and perform necessary setting.

Starting/Stopping the Recording
Pressing the ST./STOP(S) Button (Fig. 8) will start the recording of TIME, AVERAGE SPEED and DISTANCE 1 or 2, and a subsequent press will stop the recording. During the recording, the speed scale (K or M) will flicker.

ALL CLEAR OPERATION

Press the SET Button with something like a pen while pressing the MODE and ST./STOP(S) Buttons (fig.15). The entire memory (Odo data, speed scale, wheel setting, and clock time) of the computer will be erased, and the computer is in the distance scale selection mode. Perform this operation when the battery is replaced or in the case of unusual display caused by electrostatics, etc.

Auto Mode (Automatic Recording) You can set the computer to record TIME, AVERAGE SPEED and DISTANCE 1 or 2 automatically. This is called the AUTO MODE. The computers sensor detects the motion of your wheel to start and stop reon back cording automatically. (Once the AUTO MODE is set, you cannot start or stop the recording with the ST./STOP(S) Button.) In Trip Distance 1/ 2, Elapsed Time Activating AUTO MODE: (Fig. 9) In the DISTANCE, TIME or AVERAGE SPEED function, press the SET and Average Speed button. The symbol will appear on the screen to identify the AUTO Fig. 9 MODE. You can take the computer out of the AUTO MODE in the same way.

Manually Replacing Mileage (Odo) into Odometer
Although the Odo data returns to zero when the ALL CLEAR OPERATION is performed to replace the battery, you can continue to retain the Odo data you have recorded so far, by manually entering the previous Odo data. (Be sure to take note of the data before replacing the battery.) 1. After performing the ALL CLEAR OPERATION, select the speed scale by pressing the MODE Button. Then, hold down the MODE Button without pressing the SET Button (Fig. 16). 2. The Odo and 0000.0 will be displayed, with the flashing digit of 0.1. Enter numbers by pressing the MODE Button, and move digits by pressing the ST./STOP(S) Button. For the Odo data, you can enter up to the 10,000th digit. Display the numbers you noted on the screen, and press the SET Button on the back of the computer. Then, you will be in the Wheel Setting function. 3. Set the Wheel Setting in accordance with the description in the section Setting Up the Computer 3.

ODOMETER

Moving TIME, AVERAGE SPEED and MAX SPEED to Upper Display
You can move TIME, AVERAGE SPEED or MAX SPEED to the upper display, giving you larger font and an easy-to-see screen(Fig. 10). When the computer is set in the AUTO MODE ( ), the switching is possible by displaying the mode you would like and pressing the ST./STOP(S) Button. You can go back to the original display in the same way. ), When the computer is not set in the AUTO MODE ( AT you can switch the display by holding down the ST./ STOP(S) Button for 2 seconds.

Resetting the DISTANCE 1, TIME, MAX SPEED and AVERAGE SPEED Functions RESET
In any function other than Odo or Dst2, simultaneously press the MODE Button and the ST./STOP(S) Button for one (1) second. DISTANCE 1, TIME, MAX SPEED and AVERAGE SPEED functions will reset to zero (Fig. 11). DISTANCE 2 will not reset. Resetting the DISTANCE 2 RESET In Dst2 function, a simultaneous hold down of the MODE and ST./STOP(S) Buttons for 1 second will reset the data of DISTANCE 2 only.

The computer has two wheel settings, allowing you to use the unit between two bikes with different size tires. You can tell which WHEEL SETTING you are in by the Wheel Selection Symbol on the screen (Fig. 12). Wheel Setting B has been specifically programmed for lowspeed sensitivity, and we recommend the use of this setting with your mountain bike. To select between Wheel Setting A or B, hold down the SET Button when you are in any function other than the ODOMETER (Odo) function (Fig. 12) To check the number for the current wheel setting, simultaneously press the ST./STOP(S) Button and the MODE Button when you are in the ODOMETER (Odo) function. While in this status, if you hold down the button for 3 seconds or longer, you can switch between the Wheel Setting A and B without using the SET Button. Changing the Wheel Setting Number (Fig.13) 1. In the ODOMETER function, press the SET Button on the back of the computer. The number for the Wheel Setting will flash on the screen. 2. Pressing the MODE Button will increase the number, while pressing the ST./STOP(S) Button will decrease it. 3. When the Wheel Setting you would like is displayed, press the SET Button on the back of the computer.

Power Saving Function

When the computer does not receive a signal for approximately 60 to 70 minutes, the computer goes into the power saving mode, and only the CLOCK is displayed. Press either the MODE Button or ST./STOP(S) Button to wake-up the computer.

Don't pay too much attention to your computer functions while riding. Keep your eyes on the road and pay attention to traffic conditions. Securely attach the magnet, sensor and bracket to your bicycle. Periodically check if the screws and secure bands have loosened. Safely dispose of the old battery. Do not place it within children's reach. If swallowed by mistake, consult a doctor immediately. Do not leave the main unit exposed to direct sunlight. Never disassemble the main unit. For cleaning, use neutral detergent on soft cloth, and wipe off with dry cloth. Do not apply paint thinner, benzine or alcohol, to avoid damages on the surface. If there is mud, sand or the like clogged between the button and the body, button operation can become impaired. Softly wash away such objects with water. Before each ride, insure the computer is completely and securely mounted to the bracket.

Automatic Start/Stop Function
When the symbol is on, the unit automatically starts and stops measuring while a wheel pulse is detected. (See the above In Measuring Functions for how to switch on/off.)
Usually displayed on the upper display and updated once a second. When Av or Mx data is shifted to the upper display, Spd shifts to the lower display.

Power Saving Function

When the main unit does not receive a signal, or a button has not been pressed for 60-70 minutes, the power supply is shut down and the main unit will only display the clock. By pressing either MODE or S button, or by receiving signal, this function is released.

Average Pace Arrow

Shows whether the current speed is faster or slower than the average speed. ------ Faster than the average speed ------ Slower than the average speed When the average speed is zero, or when in the stop state, no pacer symbol appears.

Maintenance

When the main unit or the contact gets wet, dry it off with a cloth; rust will cause functional errors.

Trouble Shooting

No display. Has the battery in the main unit worn out? Replace it with a new one. Incorrect data appears or the screen is frozen. Do "All Clear" operation. (If possible, write down the Odo data before all clear operation, and input it again after the display returns normal.) Current speed does not appear. (When current speed does not appear, first short-circuit the contact on the back with metal; if the speed display appears, the main unit is normal and the problem must be in the bracket or the sensor.) Is there anything on the contact of the main unit or of the bracket? Wipe the contact clean. DO NOT use abrasives, sandpaper, etc. Is the distance between the sensor and the magnet too far? Are the marking line of the sensor and the center of magnet aligned? Adjust the position of the sensor and magnet again. Is the wire broken? Replace it with a new one. Close

Continuously measured until battery wears down. Displayed with 0.1 resolution up to 9999.9 km and with 1.0 resolution up to 99999 km. (With all clear operation, it returns to zero; to continue accumulation of data, input the previous Odo data after all clear operation.)

Elapsed time is measured from start to current point, in units of hours, minutes and seconds. At 10 hours, it returns to zero and counting begins anew. With the press of S button, Tm data shifts to the upper display. In this case, the lower display shows the hour digits of Tm data (instead of Spd). With Reset operation, it returns to zero.

How to Replace Battery

Insert a new lithium battery (CR2032) with the (+) pole upward. Perform ALL CLEAR OPERATION after replacing the battery. In order to continue accumulation of Odo data, write down the stored Odo before replacing the battery.

The average speed from start to current point is displayed. If the elapsed time exceeds 27 hours or Dst1 exceeds 999.99km, (.E) is displayed and calculation ceases. With the press of S button, Av data shifts to the upper display. In this case, Spd data is shifted to the lower display. With reset operation, it returns to zero.
Continuing Accumulation of Odo Data
Although the Odo data returns to zero by all clear operation, you can continue accumulation of data by inputting the previous Odo data. Be sure to write down the data before replacing the battery. Specifications

Slide the main unit onto the bracket according to " How to Attach Main Unit to Bracket" (below). Make sure the computer is fully attached to the bracket. Spin the front wheel and check if the speed display appears. (If not, adjust the relative positions of magnet and sensor again.) Fasten the sensor securely, and remove the main unit.
Attach the sensor temporarily. Note: Sensor Band-A (Small) --------- 11-26 (Large) --------- 21-36
Secure the wire along the fork with the nylon ties 9, and wind it round the brake cable(3) up to the handlebar. Note: Allow enough wire length in the area marked with in the illustration, to insure full movement and unhindered operation of the handlebar.

Test the alignment of the magnet and sensor with the main unit attached.
Align the magnet's center(1) and the sensor's marking line(2). Make sure of approx. 2mm clearance between the magnet 6 and sensor 3.

How to Attach Main Unit to Bracket
Slide main unit onto the bracket from front until it clicks into position. To remove, pull it off forward while pushing down the lever(4).

The complete screen will light up for a moment and then all fade away. The only thing on the screen will be a flashing "K". Select the speed scale you would like by pressing the MODE Button. "K" for kilometers and "M" for miles per hour. Note that the speed scale you select DICTATES CLOCK function in 12 or 24 hours. "K" will select a 24 hour clock. "M" will select a 12 hour clock. Set the speed scale by PRESSING the ST./STOP (S) Button.

To set up your computer for the first time, perform an ALL CLEAR OPERATION first by pressing ALL THREE BUTTONS AT THE SAME TIME. Hint: Hold the computer upside down holding the MODE and START/ STOP (S) Buttons DOWN. Now PRESS the SET Button with a pencil or other pointed object.
The number "210" will flash. This is a preset tire setting for 700X23C tires. Refer to the tire calibration chart in your manual or on our web site <www.cateye.com>. Please note that this number is actually the DISTANCE in Centimeters your tire rolls with each revolution while you are on the bike. If you want to input the most accurate number you will need to do a wheel roll out.
Increase the digits by PRESSING the MODE Button. Decrease the number by PRESSING the ST./STOP (S) Button. Set the number by PRESSING the SET Button on the back. Your computer is now set up for riding.

DISTANCE ONE (Dst1) has two sub-functions. PRESS and HOLD the MODE Button for 2 seconds to access DISTANCE TWO (Dst2). DISTANCE TWO is a separate Trip Distance that can be reset without resetting the other functions. To reset DISTANCE TWO, PRESS and HOLD the ST./STOP (S) and MODE Button for ONE SECOND. From DISTANCE TWO (Dst2) you can access the ODOMETER function (Odo). PRESS and HOLD the MODE Button for TWO SECONDS in DISTANCE TWO and you will now be in ODOMETER (Odo.). To navigate out of either of these two sub-functions to DISTANCE ONE, press the mode button.
The right Button is the MODE Button. The left button is the START/STOP (S) Button. You use the MODE Button to navigate through the modes. From the ELAPSED TIME function (Tm on the computer screen), you can PRESS the MODE Button to access the AV- ST./STOP(S) MODE ERAGE SPEED function (Av). PRESS the MODE Button to access the DISTANCE ONE (Dst1) function. This is the standard ride distance function. Now PRESS the MODE Button to get back to the TIME (Tm) function.
TIME has a sub-function of CLOCK. You access this by PRESSING and HOLDING the MODE Button for 2 Seconds. To get out of the CLOCK press the MODE Button. You are now back in TIME. AVERAGE SPEED (Av) has a sub-function of MAXIMUM SPEED (Mx). To access MAX SPEED PRESS and HOLD the MODE Button when in AVERAGE SPEED. To get out of MAX SPEED PRESS the MODE Button.

Odometer

Resetting TIME and DISTANCE functions
To reset the TIME, DISTANCE ONE, AVERAGE and MAX SPEEDS, PRESS AND HOLD the MODE and ST./STOP (S) Buttons for ONE SECOND.

PRESS the SET Button on the back of the computer. The hours will start flashing. The MODE Button advances the digits. The ST./STOP (S) Button changes from Hours to Minutes. PRESS the SET Button on the back to set the CLOCK. The CLOCK is set to either 24 HOUR or 12 HOUR depending on the SPEED SCALE selected. In K (Kilometers per hour) a 24 HOUR CLOCK is selected. In M (Mile per hour) a 12 HOUR CLOCK is selected.

WHEEL SETTING A or B

The computer has two wheel settings for quickly and conveniently moving the between two bikes with different size of tires. You can tell which WHEEL SETTING you are in by the semicircle symbol with an "A" or "B" on the computer screen. Wheel setting "A" has been preset with a tire size for a 700 X 23C road tire. Wheel setting "B" is preset for a mountain bike tire of 26 x 1.95. Wheel setting "B" is also specifically programed for low speed sensitivity. If you are using the computer on a mountain bike we recommend that you use Wheel setting "B". To select Wheel setting "A" or "B", HOLD the SET Button except in ODOMETER function.
DISTANCE TWO (Dst2) can only be reset while in DISTANCE TWO.
REPLACING MILEAGE INTO THE ODOMETER
This is done after replacing the battery in the unit or for transferring mileage from another computer. First PRESS ALL THREE BUTTONS, the MODE Button, the ST./STOP (S) Button and the SET Button on the back. Now the "K" flashes indicating speed scale. PRESS the MODE Button to select between "K" for Kilometers or "M" for Miles per hour reading. To add previous mileage or kilometers you must NOW PRESS AND HOLD the MODE Button. ".0" will be flashing. Input the number with the MODE Button. PRESS the ST./STOP (S) Button to change to the next digit. You will be able to set distance up to 00,000.0 digits. Now press the SET Button on the back.

AUTO MODE

You can set the computer to record TIME, DISTANCE, MAX and AVERAGE SPEED automatically (AUTO MODE) or manually (STANDARD MODE). In STANDARD MODE you must press the ST./STOP (S) Button to begin recording TIME and DISTANCE. In AUTO MODE (AT) the computer starts and stops when ever it records a signal from the sensor at the wheel. To set the computer to AUTO MODE with the computer in the DISTANCE function or TIME function, press the SET Button on the back of the computer. A small symbol with the letters AT will appear on the screen indicating AUTO MODE. You take the computer out of AUTO MODE the same way.

When the computer is set in AUTO MODE (AT), the functions of TIME, AVERAGE and MAX SPEED can be switched to the upper display by PRESSING the ST./ STOP (S) Button. You can move SPEED back to the upper display by pressing the ST./STOP (S) Button again.
CHANGING the WHEEL SETTING CALIBRATION NUMBER
When you are in the ODOMETER (Odo) function, you can view the WHEEL CALIBRATION NUMBER by PRESSING the ST./STOP (S) and the MODE Button. To change the CALIBRATION NUMBER PRESS the SET Button on the back of the computer in ODOMETER (Odo) function. The WHEEL CALIBRATION NUMBER will flash on the screen. PRESS the MODE Button to increase the digits. PRESS the ST./STOP (S) button to decrease the digits. PRESS the SET Button on the back to set the new number.

Setting the CLOCK

To set the CLOCK the computer must be turned off and the speed scale symbol (either M for Miles or K for Kilometers) must not be flashing. In the Time function PRESS AND HOLD the MODE Button. You will see little CLOCK symbol. Now In STANDARD MODE (AT symbol is off) PRESS and HOLD ST./STOP (S) Button for 2 seconds.
Now you must input your tire calibration number. Please note that this number is actually the DISTANCE in Centimeters your tire rolls with each revolution while you are on the bike.
