Introduction
The Clarion OHMD74 is a full-featured overhead entertainment center featuring DVD, CD, and MP3 playback. This system combines flexibility, reliability, and expandability all in one. Designed primarily for rear seat entertainment, the audio from the OHMD74 can be enjoyed privately through wireless headphones and/or incorporated into any head unit. And with the ability to access all the features and functions through an IR remote control, the rear passengers wont have to leave the comfort and safety of their seats. Since Clarion has always been an innovator in the mobile entertainment industry, a lot of responsibilities follow suit. One of the major emphasizes incorporated into the OHMD74 is reliability. This was achieved by using high-grade electronic components and heightened electronic connections. As the mobile environment is extremely harsh, these technological advances insure years of unrelenting operation. Given that the OHMD74 is the centerpiece of the entertainment center, it features a built-in A/V switcher allowing for multiple A/V sources to be added. Included with the OHMD74, is a Game Port Station, which also can be used for a temporary device, such as a camcorder or game station, to be enjoyed in the vehicle. With everything that Clarion has to offer with the OHMD74, it truly lives up to Clarions motto, BE SEEN, BE HEARD!

Page 17

MP3 Playback On CD
What is MP3? MP3 is an audio compression method. This audio compression method has become a standard format with many PC users. MP3 allows the original digital audio data to be compressed to about 10 percent of its initial file size while still retaining high sound quality. This means that about 10 music CDs can be recorded on a CD-R disc, thus allowing longer listening time without having to change CDs.
Precautions When Creating an MP3 Disc
Supported MP3 File Formats: 1. ISO 9660, 9006 level 1 and level 2 (the most common type of MP3 format) 2. Joliet (a version of ISO 9660, 9006 that supports longer file names) 3. Romeo (a format used by some CD-creating software)

File Extensions

Always add a file extension.MP3 or.mp3 to an MP3 file by using single-byte letters. If you add a different file extension, or forget to add the file extension.MP3 or.mp3, the file cannot be played. In addition, if you use upper case and lower case letters (capital and small letters) mixed together for file extensions, normal play may not be possible.

Page 18

File and Folder Structure
The folder name and file name can be displayed as the title during MP3 play. However, the title must be within 31 and 27 single-byte alphabetical letters and numerals for the folder name and file name, respectively (not including an extension). Entering more letters or numerals than specified may cause an incorrect display. A disc with a folder having more than 8 hierarchical levels will conflict with MP3 system requirements and playback will be impossible. A total of 255 filers and folders are allowed. When the number of and folders is more than 255, playback of tracks in excess of that number is impossible. There is a maximum of 31 files in each folder. File tracks are played in the order that they were recorded onto a disc. (Files might not always be played in the order displayed on the PC.)

Sound Quality

Some noise might be audible - this depends on the type of encoder software used while recording. It is not noise created by the OHMD74.

Bit Rates

The OHMD74 supports the following bit rates: 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, and 96kHz. In case of a track recorded at VBR (variable bit rate), the display for the play time of the track may be slightly different from the actual playtime. Also, the recommended value for VBR ranges from 32 kbps to 320 kbps.
ID3V1 and ID3V2 Tags Support
Both ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags are supported. These allow up to 30 characters per song name and 30 characters per artist name.

Installation
About the Installation The installation of the OHMD74 overhead monitor system requires experience in both mechanical and electrical procedures. If you do not posses the necessary experience or tools to attempt this installation, contact a local Clarion dealer for assistance. Improper installation can result damage to the monitor and/or the vehicle. This manual provides basic installation tips and techniques to aid in the installation of the OHMD74 overhead monitor system. The installation instructions are not vehicle specific, its a guideline on how to perform the installation. Prior to Beginning Installation Verify that all of the functions of the vehicle work properly (i.e.: power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, lights, etc.) Verify the monitor will not interfere with the operation of the sunroof, if applicable. Test fit the location of the overhead monitor system to ensure it will not interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle. Determine the location of the AV source(s). This unit is exclusively for vehicles with a negative ground, 12V power supply. Do not open the case, there are no serviceable parts inside. If you drop anything into the unit during installation, consult with your dealer or an authorized Clarion service center. WARNING! Be sure to disconnect the battery (-) negative terminal before starting. This is to prevent short circuits during the installation.

Similar to the VRX935VD, the VRX745VD a flipdown 7" monitor with an integrated DSP tuner and a flip-down, fully detachable faceplate differs in that it boasts a true singleDIN chassis (no hideaway box). The unit also differs aesthetically in that it sports an attractive piano-like finish on the faceplate.
VRX630 1-DIN In-Dash 6.5" Motorized LCD Monitor with Changer Control
A flip-out display with an AM/FM tuner on the units A/V input can be used with a stand-alone DVD player, or can control a 6-disc DVD changer.
Surround Sound Technologies
5.1-Channel Dolby Digital/dts Surround
Dolby Digital and dts provide three channels of front sound, together with two rear surround channels and a dedicated low frequency channel for a subwoofer. This combination can reproduce the dynamic sound field of a movie theater in the confined space of the average vehicle. A built-in 1/3-octave parametric equalizer is also included, allowing for three bands of independent adjustment for the front, rear and center channel speakers. There are settings for frequency, gain, and Q (how the slope of the adjusted frequency is affected). Either pink noise or audio material can be used to set the EQ. Also included are seven different DSP surround settings (such as Club, Theater, etc.) to help create a bigger sound stage, as well as a digital time alignment option to set speaker delays to compensate for sonic discrepancies caused by the vehicles interior. The DVH940 also includes Dolby Pro Logic II decoding. Dolby Pro Logic II is the first processor to produce 5.1 surround sound from ANY stereo source, including FM, CD, MP3 or VHS movie audio tracks. Now you can experience true you are there audio performance. Dolby Pro Logic II in the DVH940 generates front, center, surround, and subwoofer outputs for a true mobile surround sound system. For audiophile sound quality, the DVH940 uses 24bit D/A converters for low distortion audio and delivers the 5.1 surround signals through 4-volt, 6-channel RCA line-level outputs.

Dolby Pro Logic II

While standard Dolby Digital and dts require specially encoded software to reproduce 5.1-channel surround sound, Dolby Pro Logic II can create a complete 5.1-channel surround sound effect from ANY 2-channel source. The sound decoding technology can be found in Clarions DXZ945MP, a high-end source unit featuring Clarions exclusive AC Processor III technology. If your favorite movie is only in stereo, or you are listening to CDs, MP3s or even Sirius Satellite radio, Dolby Pro Logic II will give you a full 5.1channel surround sound effect. It features a phantom center-channel mode that simulates a center channel, creating a quasi 5.1-channel sound field from just the four standard speakers of a car audio system.
The DVH940 Dolby Digital/dts/Dolby Pro Logic II Processor
The DVH940 incorporates Dolby Digital, dts, and Dolby Pro Logic II processors, a parametric equalizer, crossovers, digital sound field settings and digital time alignment adjustments The DVH940 processor has selectable crossovers for the front, center, rear and subwoofer channels at 50/80/120Hz. To aid in setting proper speaker levels, all channel gains are independently adjustable using a built-in pink noise generator for proper level setting. Along with the adjustable gain settings, the center and subwoofer channels volume can also be adjusted separately to allow for different source material.

Expandibility

CeNET Technology
CeNET is an exclusive Clarion feature that easily allows system upgrades and expansion without complicated wiring or programming. Start with the VRX935VD, an in-dash DVD player with motorized 7-inch LCD. CeNET allows for the seamless integration of Clarions VCZ625 DVD changer, DVH940 5.1-channel surround sound processor, TTX7501z TV tuner, and the SIRCL1 Sirius Satellite Receiver. CeNET can run up to two changers (audio and DVD) using the CCA519 Y adapter cable. CeNET components will also display functions on the main viewing screen, such as CD titles, Sirius Satellite Radio channel information, and radio or TV station names that you program into the system, as well as MP3 ID3 tags (on units that read MP3 files). CeNET also has balanced line audio. This results in dynamic noise canceling, making the CeNET system virtually noise free. All audio signals and power/trigger wires are in the CeNET cable, eliminating the need for separate runs of RCA cables or power wires, making the installation much easier.

2-Zone Entertainment

The VRX935VD allows an external video source, such as a DVD player, game station, or a VCR, to be viewed on a rear-seat monitor. In this mode, the front passengers can enjoy the radio, a DVD movie, or MP3s independently from the rear seat passengers. The rear seat passengers can listen to the audio through wireless headphones.
Additional Video Inputs on VRX935VD
The VRX935VD is equipped with two audio/video inputs (i.e., one RCA and one CCA389) and a dedicated Rear Vision Camera input. Clarion has several different audio/video sources to choose from, from TV tuners, single-DIN DVD player, 6-disc DVD changer, rear vision camera, and a videocassette recorder. For those looking for additional entertainment, a video game station can be added as well.

Loop-Back Capability

The VRX935VD has a Loop Back feature that lets you use the above units internal amplifier to power the front and rear speakers. This eliminates the need for outboard power amplifiers when the DVH940 processor module is connected. This feature lets you design a cost-conscious 5.1-channel surround sound system using the new SRK5 powered center-channel speaker, along with a subwoofer amplifier and subwoofer.

Video Performance

High-Resolution LCD Screen
All Clarion display screens use the latest in active matrix LCD technology to give you the brightest, most detailed image available. Thin Film Transistors (TFTs) are attached to each RGB, (red/green/blue) pixel to provide more control over the color being reproduced. This method helps reduce display white-wash associated with a conventional passive-matrix screen, and insures optimal picture quality from any viewing angle. Clarion video monitors utilize high-resolution active matrix screens. By employing a striped pixel configuration to align RGB pixels into columns, we can use more pixels to enhance details and provide better color definition. Having the controls for brightness on the front panel allows easy adjustment of picture quality.

Design and Interface

Touch-Panel Operation
With the VRX935VD and VRX745VD, you can enjoy touch-screen control of all major system functions. Both units control audio, radio, DVD/CD Changer and TV, and add control of Sirius Satellite Radio and even 5.1-surround sound settings when linked to the DVH940. The settings can be adjusted by simply touching the unique honeycomb-shaped (VRX935VD) Touch Buttons on the screen.
Fully Motorized In-Dash 7-Inch Monitor on the VRX935VD and VRX745VD
VRX935VD and VRX745VD feature a large 7-inch monitor with a fully motorized mechanism that opens and closes at a touch of a button. The tilt angle and distance from the dashboard to the screen can be adjusted for maximum visibility. The monitor will also remember the setting when used the next time.
Customizable V-Matrix Graphics
The VRX935VD has eight selectable background colors and several motion display modes. These background colors and motions allow for customization or matching the display to the vehicle interior. This feature can also highlight the music being enjoyed through the source unit as well.
Faceplate Design as Sub-Display When Monitor is Closed
The display panel on the top of the monitor becomes a display for current playback source information while the monitor is retracted. This handy feature displays Play Time during CD playback, and the radio channel during AM/FM tuner reception. It will also display ID3 tags while listening to MP3s and Sirius Satellite Radio channel information when a Sirius receiver is connected. When the monitor is extended, the front display turns off to prevent light from reflecting onto the windshield.

Partial DCP

The control button section can be detached with a release button for your protection against theft. On the VRX935VD and VRX745VD, the screen automatically closes when you detach the face panel and opens again when the faceplate is placed back on.

Audio Performance

Beat EQ for Precision Tone Control

Clarions Pro Audio VRX745VD has a Beat EQ selector. This feature has three preset EQ curves, and a User position which allows a three-band parametric EQ to be used. Each band (Low, Mid and High) has selectable frequencies, adjustable gain and selectable Q (width of frequency adjustment).
Half-DIN Center-Channel Speaker
Last year Clarion introduced a new concept in 5.1 surround center-channel speakers: a half-DIN application that makes installing a center channel speaker a snap. With its included outboard amplifier, the SRK5 can be added to any system with ease. When coupled with the VRX935VD, VRX745VD, DXZ945MP or DXZ745MP, and the DVH940 5.1 processor, you can use the Loop Back Circuit in the above units to power the front and surround channels and the SRK5s amplifier for the center channel, a cost conscious system can be assembled. All thats needed is a subwoofer and a subwoofer amplifier to complete your surround sound system.

Z-Enhancer

The Z-Enhancer in the VRX630 acts as a super loudness compensation EQ. You can choose one of three different EQ curves. The first boosts the low frequencies, the second boosts the high frequencies, and the third boosts both the low and high frequencies.
24-Bit Digital-to-Analog Converter
Clarions 24-bit D/A converter in the VRX935VD eliminates the signal defects of older 16-bit decoding by actually oversampling the digital signal. This greatly improves overall sound quality of the D/A converter, creating a more natural sound, and better imaging. A 24-bit D/A converter greatly reduces linearity errors and notch distortion, which results in superior sound and high signal-to-noise ratios for less reproduced noise.
4-Volt Preamplifier Output
A 4-volt low impedance (less than 300 ohms) output in our ProAudio source units and processors minimizes the possibility of a clipped and distorted output signal. This results in a much cleaner musical signal sent to the power amplifier, so the amplifier reproduces a cleaner high-level signal. The end result is musical reproduction with extended dynamic range and more headroom.

Rear-Seat Entertainment

Wide-Screen Flip-Down Color LCD Monitors
Four new OHM overhead video screens are available this year: the OHM153 (15.3" widescreen monitor), OHM102 (10.2" widescreen monitor), OHMD74 (7" widescreen monitor), and OHM74 (7" wide-screen monitor). Clarion's OHMD74 does go a step further, offering a built-in DVD player that features CD/CD-R/RW/DVD(+/-)R/RW/MP3 playback. Clarion's OHM102 also differs from the other overhead monitors, offering a swivel mechanism that ensures optimal picture viewing. Sharing common features, each overhead monitor offers multi-picture formats (16:9/4:3), and a highresolution TFT (Thin Film Transistors) activematrix display to ensure the cleanest and brightest pictures available. The overheads also offer easy adjustment of color, tint, brightness and dimmer functions, two A/V inputs, one video input, an external A/V game port, and a dual IR audio transmitter for the two included wireless headphones (OHM74 utilizes a single IR audio transmitter for the included wireless headphones). Each monitor also touts a built-in IR receiver, which allows for multi-monitor control using a single remote. The monitors also offer the option of adding a TV Tuner, and an FM modulator, allowing one to achieve a complete standalone rear-seat entertainment package.

Wide-Screen Headrest Color LCD Monitors
New this year are two LCD video monitors for headrest installations. The VMA7194/VMA5894 7" and 5.8" wide-screen 16:9/4:3 monitors also have many of the unique features found in the overhead models, such as a high-resolution, TFT (Thin Film Transistors) active-matrix displays, two A/V inputs, one video output, an included external A/V game port, and two IR audio transmitters for use with the optional WH204 wireless headphones. They both include a slim, easy-fit universal mounting bracket for use in variety of installations.

Multi-Zone Systems

Clarions multi-zone product allows the ultimate in system design and flexibility. The MSS430 Source Commander is a combination audio and video switcher with a built-in video distribution amplifier for excellent video performance on up to three LCD monitors. Its four audio inputs have individual gain to controls to match audio source levels. It can accept up to four different audio/video sources (Example: DVD, VHS, TV tuner, video game, rear vision camera, or video camera) and send the audio and video to any of three monitors and headphones independently. The possibilities are endless. And by using our wireless headphones, installation is a breeze. With multi-source switching, any one of four audio/video sources can be selected independently for each video monitor. For example, each back seat or overhead monitor can have its own audio/video program, controlled from a wired remote control station. The line level output can feed any of our WH104/WH204/WH105 wireless headphones, or the AUX inputs on any source unit or equalizer.

Screen Technology

All Clarion video monitors utilize high-resolution video-grade active matrix screens. By employing a "stripped pixel" configuration to align RGB pixels into columns, more pixels are used to enhance the details and provide better color definition. TFT's are attached to each RGB (red/green/blue) pixel to provide more control over the color being reproduced. This method helps reduce "white wash" associated with conventional passive matrix screens.
Accessories to Make Your Multimedia System Complete
Video Mounting Accessories
Clarion has the video accessories to complete or complement any video system. Since vehicle leasing has often been the excuse why rear seat entertainment is overlooked, Clarion has several optional video mounting accessories. These accessories do not require any modifications to the vehicles interior, and no holes need to be drilled for mounting. The ZMT100 is a pedestal mount that can be attached with double sided tape to the center console or dashboard. The PQE023 attaches to the headrest bars of the seat. And the ZMT009, an adjustable gooseneck mount, can be attached to ant seat bolt. A leased vehicle will no longer be an excuse for not having rear seat entertainment.

Rear Vision Camera

Clarion has thought of it all, including a rear vision camera. This camera can be used to reduce blind spots often associated with SUVs or motorhomes. The camera can be also used to aid in backing up or parallel parking. The cameras iris can make darkness look like daylight, allowing the camera to be used at all times of the day or night. With quality construction of Clarion rear vision camera, it can withstand what ever Mother Nature can throw at it.

TV Tuners and Antennas

To complete the multimedia line-up, Clarion has TV tuners and matching antennas. The antennas offer the best possible reception with glass mount amplified diversity antennas. With the complete line-up of multimedia products and accessories, Clarion has something to satisfy everybody.

Video Amplifier

In video applications when a single video source is used with multiple monitors, the VA700 video amplifier prevents video signal loss. When the video is split to to many monitors using y-cables, the signal is weakened and the picture become dark. The VA700 allows a single video source to be used with up to seven monitors while retaining excellent picture quality.
