introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of the Clifford SmartWindows 4, a G4/G5 system accessory. Your Clifford G4/G5 system is SmartWindows 4 ready and will automatically close your cars power windows every time you arm your Clifford G4/G5 vehicle security system with the systems remote control. In order to maximize the use of this system, please review this owner's guide carefully prior to using your system. You can print additional or replacement copies of this owners guide by accessing the Clifford website at www.clifford.com.

your warranty

Your warranty registration must be completely filled out and returned within 10 days of purchase. Your product warranty will not be validated if your warranty registration is not returned. Make sure you receive the warranty registration from your dealer. It is also necessary to keep your proof of purchase, which reflects that the product was installed by an authorized dealer.
autoclose upon remote arming
When you arm your G4/G5 system with the systems remote control, SmartWindows 4 will automatically close the two power windows it controls. If you have two SmartWindows 4 modules installed (to control four power windows), the second set of windows will AutoClose after the first pair have completely shut. For safety reasons, the windows will not AutoClose when your Clifford system AutoArms.
one- time by pass of autoclose
To arm your system without closing the windows, turn the ignition on and off rapidly. Youll hear a siren chirp to confirm the windows will not AutoClose when you remotely arm. (This also invokes the AutoArming Bypass feature noted in your G4/G5 system manual.) Normal operation is restored when you next disarm.

remote control venting

To vent the windows on hot days, press button combination (or LevelShift once, then + on the 5-button remote, if so
equipped) within 10 seconds of remotely arming the system. Your installing dealer can adjust the ventilation opening to the exact amount you desire. 4

multiple venting

Pressing this button combination again within the same 10 seconds will further vent the windows by the same increment.

remote control opening

Press the button combination noted above within 10 seconds of remotely disarming the system to fully open the windows.

remote quickstop

For safety purposes, you can instantly reverse window closure by disarming the system while the windows are still closing.

interior features

touchdown
Inside the vehicle, simply tap the down-side of the window switch to fully open the window without having to continuously hold the switch.

touchup

Similarly, a tap up of the switch will fully close the window.

interior quickstop

A tap of the window switch (in either direction) while it is moving will immediately halt movement. To roll a window halfway down, for example, you may tap the down-side of the windows switch (invoking TouchDown), then tap again and the window will halt.

safety features

SmartWindows 4, in addition to the QuickStop safety features, can detect obstructions and electromechanical failures. In such cases, it will automatically halt movement.

Program the Windows

1. Use the programming grid in the Installer-Programmable Features section in the installation manual for the security system you are installing to program SmartWindows 4. Make sure both windows are rolled down before you begin programming. Turn the ignition ON. Select the appropriate row/column from the installer programming grid, the siren will chirp twice. Press and hold the drivers window switch UP for approximately two seconds.
Release the switch and allow the window to roll up. After the window reaches the top, it will pause. It will then automatically complete programming by rolling both windows up/down several times. Programming is complete when both windows vent. You may then turn off the key to exit programming or if you have a second set of SmartWindows 4 installed, touch and release the drivers window UP for the second set of windows. It will follow the same process as the first set you programmed. If the programming doesnt complete successfully, start over from step #1.
Memory is nonvolatile and will NOT have to be reprogrammed in the event of a power loss. To fine tune the vent or to program the windows without using the valet switch, use the CliffNet Wizard Pro.

window control

If the windows can be closed using a key in the door of the car, see section 1 below. If the windows cannot be closed using a key in the door and the alarm you are installing has built-in window roll up, see section 2 below.

NOTE: This requires the use of an optional relay.
If the door key can close the power windows/sunroof, you can make them automatically close upon remote arming. 1. Find the wire that shows either +12V or (-) when the key is held at the lock position in the door cylinder. Tap a wire in to this wire and connect to terminal 30 of the optional relay. If the wire shows (-) when the key is turned, connect terminal 87 to (-). If the wire shows +12V when the key is turned, connect terminal 87 to 12V. Connect the output of the alarm that can be set to AutoActivate to terminal 85. Connect +12V to terminal 86. Turn on the AutoActivate timed accessory upon remote arming feature as noted in the installation manual for the alarm under the Programmable Features section.

4. 5. 6.

Set the timer duration to proper time interval with 2-seconds added to that time interval.

section 2window rollup

NOTE: This may require the use of an optional relay(s).

1. 2. 3. 4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Access the wires at the window switch. Connect a voltmeter lead to ground. Connect the other voltmeter lead to a wire at the window switch and find the wire that shows 12V while pressing the window switch as if rolling the windows up. a. If the voltmeter reads 12V while pressing the UP side of the switch, make the connections as shown in diagram A, otherwise proceed to step 5.
Connect the (-) voltmeter lead to +12V and probe the UP wire without activating the switch. a. b. If the voltmeter reads 12V, make the connections as shown in diagram B. If the voltmeter reads 0V, make the connections as shown in diagram C.
NOTE: If the vehicle has power window switches only on the center console (no door switches), you may make the appropriate connections at the console switch. If there are door switches, it is recommended that you make the connections at each door window motor.
