Using Your XL 1000 Security System
2-Button/3-Channel Remote Control
The 2-button/3-channel remote control is a miniature radio transmitter with a range of up to 100 feet. Obstructions, interference or a weak battery will reduce the range. Your 2-button/3-channel remote control is the key to your security system. It is an ingenious user-friendly device that transmits three distinct and unique digital codes. Use it to arm or disarm the system, lock or unlock the doors, activate its panic feature or control options such as the SmartWindows II accessory and a remote trunk release.

TO ARM THE SYSTEM.

Press button I once. You will hear two chirps and the parking lights will flash twice. The dashboard LED will flash repeatedly and the car doors will automatically lock. Any attempt to break into the vehicle will immediately disable the starter, sound the siren and flash the parking lights. Press button I again. One chirp and one flash of the parking lights will confirm disarming. In addition, the car doors will automatically unlock and the interior lights will turn on and stay on for 30 seconds or until you start the engine. Press button II to activate a remote controlled option, such as a remote trunk release (be sure to disarm the XL1000 before remotely releasing the trunk latch). Simultaneously press buttons I+II (or button III of the optional 4-channel remote). The system will arm or disarm with all the indications noted above except the chirp acknowledgments. Press button I for 3 seconds. The lights will flash repeatedly and the siren will blare for 30 seconds or until you press button I again to turn it off. If you have an optional Clifford 4-button/4-channel remote control, press button IV to activate another remote controlled option, such as the Clifford IntelliStart remote engine/ heater/defroster/air conditioner starter accessory (refer to the IntelliStarts operating instructions).

AutoLock/AutoUnlock

For your safety and that of your passengers, the system automatically locks the doors when you turn on the ignition switch to start the engine and unlocks them once the ignition is turned off. If you prefer, you may turn off the AutoLock/AutoUnlock feature. See the User-Selectable Features section on pages 6-7.

AutoArming

If you forget to remotely arm, the system will arm itself automatically (passively) 30 seconds after the vehicle doors are closed. If you re-open any door(s) within the 30-second countdown, AutoArming will restart from the beginning once all doors are closed. This ensures youll never accidentally leave your vehicle unprotected.
AutoArming Enable/Disable: If you prefer, you may deactivate or reactivate AutoArming. To do, see User-Selectable Features on pages 6-7. AutoArm & Lock: To ensure you cant accidentally lock your keys inside the car, the system is factory-set not to lock the doors upon AutoArming. To change this setting, see User-Selectable Features on pages 6-7. NOTE: To prevent AutoArming of the system when fueling the vehicle, either enable valet mode or leave one of the doors open (the system AutoArms 30 seconds after all doors are closed).

Protected Valet Mode

Whenever the alarm is put in protected valet mode, all of the alarm functions are bypassed, preventing AutoArming and accidental activation of the alarm. Use the valet mode whenever your car is either to be serviced by mechanics, handed over to car wash personnel or driven by valet attendants. It also comes in handy if you ever lose your remote control or its battery dies. If you have the AutoArming feature set on, when fueling your car, either put the alarm in valet mode or leave the drivers door open (the system will not AutoArm if a door is open). Be sure to ask your installer to show you where the valet switch is located.

To turn ON the protected valet mode:
1. Insert your ignition key and turn it to the ON position, or start the engine. 2. Flip the valet switch. 3. The LED will glow continuously to indicate that the alarm is in valet mode.
To turn OFF the protected valet mode:
1. Insert your ignition key and turn it to the ON position, or start the engine. 2. Flip the valet switch. 3. The LED will turn off to indicate that the alarm is in normal operating mode.
Keyless Entry in Valet Mode: Even if valet mode is on, you will still be able to remotely control all the convenience features. For instance, simply press button I as if you were arming or disarming and your cars doors will lock or unlock. You can also use button II to activate an option.

Tampering Warning

Normally, the system immediately sounds its siren at the first inkling of an intrusion attempt. However, you may set the system to issue a rapid five-chirp warning whenever the system detects tampering to the exterior of your vehicle. If there is any further tampering within the next 30 seconds, or if a door, the hood or trunk is opened at any time, your system will sound a continuous 125dB siren blast. To select the mode of your choice, see User-Selectable Features on pages 6-7.
NOTE: Turning on the Tampering Warning feature overrides the FACT feature, and vice-versa.
FACT False Alarm Control and Test
With FACT, youll never experience repeated false alarms. If your siren goes off, DO NOT remotely disarm the system; allow it to run for the full 30-second siren duration. The system automatically checks for another activated trigger before sounding the siren a second time. Should the siren sound again, you will know for sure that someone is tampering with your vehicle.
Automatic Starter Interrupt
The system automatically prevents engine starting while the system is armed. Only after disarming will the system allow the engine to be started with the ignition key.

Smart AutoTesting

Each time you remotely arm your vehicle, it will perform a series of tests on all triggers and sensors. If a trigger malfunction is found, you will be visually and audibly alerted immediately with 4 chirps and flashes instead of the usual 2. If a sensor is malfunctioning, you will receive the usual 2 chirps and flashes, then, a few seconds later, there will be 4 chirps and flashes.
Specific Malfunction Identification: The system not only tells you if the problem is a trigger or sensor, but it can also indicate the specific trigger or sensor that is malfunctioning. This feature saves you time and money since your installer wont have to spend hours trying to determine where the problem is. Heres how it works: 1. You receive the 4-chirp/4-flash signal upon remote disarming. 2. The LED indicator inside the vehicle will be flashing, pause, then repeat. 3. Count the number of blinks in one cycle between pauses (for your convenience, the blink cycle repeats 5 times) and refer to the chart below:

Automatic Malfunction Bypass
To provide the utmost protection even if a system component malfunctions, the system will automatically bypass the faulty point and arm all other triggers and sensors until you can have the system serviced by your local Authorized Dealer.
Smart Prior Intrusion Attempt Alert
When you remotely disarm, if you hear 3 chirps instead of the usual one chirp it means that a trigger or sensor was activated in your absence. When you enter the vehicle, the LED will blink several times, pause, then repeat the blink cycle 4 more times. Count the number of blinks in one cycle and refer to the chart below:

TotalRecall

The systems non-volatile memory records the identity of the last activated or malfunctioning trigger or sensor, which allows your installer to instantly track down a malfunction and save you servicing costs. To identify the trigger or sensor held in the systems non-volatile memory, simply perform the following procedure: 1. With the ignition OFF, flick the valet switch to one side. 2. Press button I to arm the system, then again to disarm. 3. The LED will blink several times, pause, then repeat the blink cycle 4 times. 4. Count the number of blinks in one cycle and refer to the chart that follows:

LED Status Indicator

The LED on your cars dashboard or console will inform you of the system status:

AntiScan

Car thieves use electronic scanners that rapidly transmit one remote control code after another to defeat ordinary alarms. AntiScan prevents scanners from disarming your system.
How to Interpret the Chirps and Parking Light Flashes
When you press the remote control buttons, the system will respond with chirps (unless you have the chirp muting feature turned on) and flashes the parking lights to indicate the system status. The meaning of these chirp/flash acknowledgments is as follows:

Multi-Level Chirp Control
Whenever you wish, you may silence the systems arm/disarm chirps. The short-term and one-time chirp muting capabilities are especially valuable when parking late at night in a quiet residential area. You have several choices:
Extended Chirp Silencing: Lets you completely silence the chirps until you wish to restore them. See User-Selectable Features on pages 5-6. Short-Term Chirp Muting: Lets you silence the chirps for a single arm-and-disarm cycle. To enable short-term chirp muting, simply turn the vehicles ignition switch rapidly ON then OFF. The next time you arm and later disarm the system, there will be no chirps. After which, the chirps are restored. One-Time Remote Chirp Muting: The most simple of all. To remotely arm or disarm the alarm silently, press buttons I+II on the remote control.

User-Selectable Features

Your XL1000 vehicle security system allows you to set many of its features to your own personal preferences. We have made the programming procedures very simple: to make a change, you just flick the valet switch a few times. The system comes from the factory with all of its features pre-programmed as noted in the table below and on page 7. To change any of the settings, use the procedure noted. To restore the feature to its factory setting, just repeat the procedure: 1. Select the feature you wish to program from the table on the following pages. Note the number of flicks and chirps associated with that feature. 2. Insert your ignition key and turn it to the ON position. 3. Immediately flick the valet switch back and forth, counting the number of chirps you hear. Stop when you reach the appropriate number of chirps 4. If noted, do the secondary action. 5. You will hear one or more chirps (as noted in the program completion confirmation section) to confirm that you have changed the feature setting. Turn the ignition off. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 for any other features you wish to program. Programming Table for User-Selectable Features

User-Programmable Remote Controls
Eagle will respond to as many as four remote controls regardless of each remote controls individual digital coding. Thus, you can buy additional remote controls, including the super-high-security 4.3-billion-code Premier remote controls, from any Authorized Clifford Dealer. To add a new remote control to the system, use the procedures noted in the User-Selectable Features section on pages 6-7.
To Erase Unwanted Remote Control Codes
If your remote control is ever lost or stolen, you can erase its digital codes from the system memory to make sure that the missing remote control can never be used to disarm your system. Just use the Add a New Remote procedures noted in the User-Selectable Features section on pages 6-7 for a total of four times (e.g., if you have one remote control remaining, program it four times; if you have two remote controls, program each twice).
