The ascending bars next to the signal strength indicate the strength of the signal. The greater the number of bars visible, the stronger the signal. The fewer number of bars visible, the weaker the signal.
microTALK Range Your range will vary depending on terrain and conditions. In flat, open country your radio will Maximum Range operate at maximum range. Buildings and foliage in the path of the signal can reduce the range of the radio. Dense foliage and hilly terrain will Reduced Range further reduce the range of the radio. On FRS channels 8 through 14, your radio automatically switches to low power, which will limit the range the radio can communicate.

Reduced Range

Remember, you can achieve maximum range by using maximum range extender. See page 6 for details.

Either system can be used on all channels, but both systems cannot be used on the same channel at the same time. To successfully communicate using a privacy code, both the sending and receiving radios must be tuned to the same channel and to the same privacy code system (CTCSS or DCS) and privacy code number. ALIBABA.COM HELPS BRING PRODUCT IDEAS TO LIFE
Have a great idea for a new consumer technology product or accessory? Not sure how to take your idea and turn it into a product? This is exactly the problem Tony Lee, President of Brad-Lee Innovations, found himself with last year. Lee invented the Hand-E-Pod, a colorful cylinder with a zinc ball-head that easily screws into the tripod mount of virtually any digital camera or camcorder and allows the user to hold the device more securely without obscuring the cameras flash. In addition, the Hand-E-Pods hollow design lets the user store items such as memory cards and extra batteries. To get his idea off the ground, Lee used an online search engine where he found Alibaba.com (booth 20728), the worlds largest business-to-business online marketplace. Lee quickly learned that using Alibaba.com took out the logistical problems of finding manufacturers overseas. Alibaba.com aligned us directly with the most reputable suppliers and made it possible for our business to
WIRELESS BROADBAND IS THE KEY TO DIGITAL CONTENT
By Derek Kuhn, Vice President Emerging Technology & Media, AlcatelLucent and Tom Jasny, Vice President, Convergence Solutions, Wireless/ Broadband Network Systems, Samsung Telecommunications America Since the advent of the digital age, the consumer electronics industry has experienced rapid boosts of innovation and creativity. The transition from analog to digital has brought multimedia content from the big screen to the fourth screen, from the record player to the CD-/DVD-/MP3-player and from dial-up over copper to wireless broadband in the home. As these changes have occurred, the quality of content has improved dramatically, and so have the demands for more storage and easier portability. Physical storage files have evolved into the ability to download and share content over the air using mobile phones, music players and laptops. The next challenge is delivering ubiquitous content to end users on the move while giving mobile networks the capacity to share content in a seamless and secure fashion. The development of 4G wireless
technologies will fundamentally change the dynamics of the consumer electronics industry for not only the manufacturers, but more importantly, the end users. Next generation mobility technologies will help cut the cords of the wired consumer electronics world and allow users to access their content with unlimited mobility. Furthermore, users will enjoy mobile upload and download speeds that match what they can currently receive in their homes on fixed broadband. Highly scalable wireless broadband technology can quickly and cost-effectively transfer digital content over the air at peak speeds of over 50 Mbps to a users device. Given that some ISPs are delivering Internet access over DSL and cable broadband ranging from 1-10 Mbps in the United

COBRA PROVIDES DIGITAL CAMERAS FOR EVERY BUDGET
Cobra Digital has become a leader in the digital still and video camera market and believes that digital cameras do not have to be expensive or sacrifice quality, especially today when the average consumer is finding ways to live within smaller budgets. There has been a stunning cultural shift in the consumer market in the last few months which will be with us long time, said William Pearson, CEO of Cobra Digital. He further said, The consumer is now dramatically reducing his spending to live within his income and reduce debt, but this has focused spending, not stopped it. They still want to capture the memories of their lives with quality cameras but want to pay less. The same spending pattern is seen in the automobile market. The consumer has not stopped spending, but instead of the Cadillac or Lexus they are now buying the Chevrolet or Kia. Cobras marketing plan is to provide cameras with up-to-date technology at very affordable prices, to include as many features as possible for each price point, to assure quality and to have a full

FISCH IMAGE LAB TRANSFORMING ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY COMPLEXITY INTO SIMPLICITY!
Explore Scientific has reached an exclusive agreement with Amplexous Corp. to distribute new digital astrophotography camera control and image processing software. Called FISCH Image Lab, its creator Greg Fisch will give demonstrations of the new software at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show at the Explore ScientificBRESSER exhibit in booth 15345. Today, backyard astronomers can produce images that rival astrophotographs that were done by professional astronomers only a few years ago with huge observatory telescopes. Indeed some of the most stunning and compelling views of the universe are made by amateur astronomers with small telescopes and digital SLRs, or with CCD cameras designed for amateur astrophotography. Advanced telescopes and cameras have reached price levels that the enthusiast can easily afford, but for the beginner, the techniques involved in making an astrophotograph are challenging. Even more daunting is the image processing routines involved in order to bring out the subtle details of the faint wisps of light in distant celestial objects that were captured in the data. Most backyard astronomers try to make an astrophotograph at least once in their lives, but they often end up with poor results and give up in frustration. Astronomy software programmers have worked hard to tackle the various problems of tracking errors, focusing and correcting image defects. But most would agree that the learning curve is very steep. FISCH Image Lab was developed to put beginners on the fast track to produce high-quality astroimages to reduce the complexity of making and working with digital astrophotographs, and to make it affordable. Developed by astronomy software pioneer Greg Fisch, Image Lab combines powerful tools for CCD astroimaging with an intuitive interface to allow beginners to do advanced image capture and image processing routines, in order to make it easier for beginners and advanced alike. Fisch explained, I began making images of the stars with CCD cameras about 15 years ago, and I struggled like everyone does to focus correctly, to make exposures that kept the stars perfectly pinpoint, yet exposed long enough to capture the faint light of galaxies and nebula. I then went through the long learning curve to correctly process the image files to bring out all the data that could be revealed. The entire process was difficult and confusing, and frankly turned off many otherwise enthusiastic

Armed with dual 500 watt ICE amplifiers, Legacy Audios new Whisper XD speaker system sets the mark for dynamic range and imaging accuracy. The Whisper XD employs a differential acoustic wavelaunch which uniquely preserves the directional cues encoded in quality stereo and multichannel recordings. Two fulllength baffles, driven one behind the other, are digitally synchronized to maintain an ideal directivity pattern. The design radically increases piston area in the forward plane extending bandwidth, sensitivity and frequency range. Because the design is open air, the system is virtually free of enclosure resonance and room limitations. Flaunting the latest in ribbon and cone technology, the elegant monoliths look just as dramatic as they sound. Whisper XDs differential alignment is analogous to a dual element microphone. Signals from the two baffles are combined acoustically with time compensation to steer the low frequency wave-launch forward, while creating a progressively reduced acoustic output to the sides until reaching a null at 90 degree off axis. This eliminates boundary interactions from sidewalls, ceiling and floor. The gradient acoustic pressure reaching the listener at each ear contains far less room noise, allowing the brain to lock in on the natural ambiance in the recording. The sweet spot is much wider with the Whisper XD design, allowing the listener to move outside the left speaker and still hear a balance with the right speaker, and vice-versa. The manual recommends a strong toe-in, to cast the strongest acoustic shadow across the face. It explains that the imprint of the shadow of the nose into the opposite ear is the other portion of the stereo signal that is usually washed out by excessive room reflections with conventional speakers. The nearly six foot towers host dual 15'' woofers on each of the two baffles, which are spaced less than four inches

devices in the marketplace to verbally coach throughout a run. The experience During a run, the miCoach Pacer proactively coaches a runner, literally telling him or her to speed up or slow down by listening to their heart rate to determine if the runner is staying within the appropriate personal training zone ranges. miCoach simplifies the science of running via color-coded heart-rate zones blue, green, yellow and redwhich translate into clear visual and audible coaching directives. This feature helps the runner gauge whether they should accelerate or taper back to ensure that they are staying within the targeted heartrate zone, meaning they will always be running at the optimal level, not over- or under-training. Technically speaking The miCoach Pacer connects to a PC or MAC, instantly connecting the user to the miCoach Web site to upload entertainment. We know many consumers are not tech savvy but still want to be able to view their family photos, stored videos or favorite music with their friends. We wanted to provide users with the ability to access and share their media which could be stored anywhere in the world, in the most cost-effective and easy-to-use method. We believe the WirelessMediaStick accomplishes these goals. Our Secondary market is the video service provider market which is represented by companies like Netflix and Blockbuster. By partnering with these companies we can enhance their business model. Originally customers had to either travel to a video store or order a DVD via mail. Recently their consumers can download videos via the Internet, but must purchase a costly set-top digital mass storage box which stores and then ing earbuds in the ear. the reflective signal if an object is present. In the examples above, using a proximity sensor would allow the system to know when a persons face is close to the display and would disable the display to avoid any accidental false triggers. It would also prevent false dialing when the smartphone is in a pocket. Because of these features, they not only make the application more robust, but also contribute in saving power (i.e. turning off display during phone call). Proximity sensors can either be built using discrete components or can be integrated into a monolithic IC. Discrete solutions require more board space, consume more power and require more design efforts to make the application work. Integrated proximity solutions are the preferred method to support the proximity sensor function. However, not all integrated solutions are equal. Intersils newest proximity sensor, ISL29011, not only addresses all the downsides of using a discrete sensor, but offers the best solution when comparing all currently available integrated proximity sensors. camera and can record up to eight hours of video at a time. This recorded audio/video evidence is then uploaded to TASERs Web portal, EVIDENCE.COM, where it is secured using TASERs proprietary technology. Administrators and officers can then file reports, annotate video and compile video evidence from multiple cameras using TASERs breakthrough perspective hopping feature. Data stored in EVIDENCE.COM is tamper-proof and can provide an unbroken, legally admissible audit trail. TASER data centers currently hold about 10 petabytes of data, and the sensitive nature of this data required the company to look beyond the existing public cloud options. Vince Stephens, TASERs Vice President of Network Operations, said, We had to produce a secured data you can kiss your job goodbye. We hear every day about massive breaches of customer records and identity theft, but what about the little guy who is affected by it? You lost your mobile storage device and believe me you feel sick knowing someone knows more about you than your mother does. But, alas, there is help on the way, and it doesnt take anything close to a PhD to get it right from the start. There is a fancy word nowadays that you may have heard. Its called Encryption. What is encryption you ask? Well, in a nutshell, its like making scrambled eggs of the information on your computer. Once it is scrambled, there is little to nothing someone can do to get at it. Depending on the method, you and only you will be able to unscramble this data. Its worthless to anyone else at that point. So, whats out there to accomplish in the Wave-launch processor.
