Using a Connectix Virtual PC 4 Disk Image with Microsoft Virtual PC 6 Please read the entire document before beginning, even if you think it doesnt relate to your scenario. Insert VPC 4 cd-rom and make sure it is mounted to desktop. Open the Virtual PC 4.0 cd-rom icon. Double-click Virtual PC 4.0 Installer. This will launch Classic. Click Continue. License: Click Accept. Read Me: Click Continue. Virtual PC 4.0 Installer: Select Custom Install, and then select Drive Image Only. Click Install. Make note of the location where the disk image is copied. 8. When prompted no other applications can be running, save any necessary open files before clicking Continue. 9. Click Quit, when the installation completes. 10. Start Virtual PC 6 11. From the Virtual PC List, click New. 12. Select a Setup Method: Select Create a PC Manually. Click the right-arrow. 13. Select a Hard Drive Data Source: Select Use an existing Virtual Hard Drive Document. 14. Open: Select Hard Drive Document: Locate the disk image that was copied in step 7, and click Select. Note: Generally, a folder called Virtual PC 4.0 will be created in the Applications folder. 15. A window will pop-up reporting that the file format is not compatible with Microsoft Virtual PC 6. Click Convert. 16. Open: Select Hard Drive Document: Click the right-arrow to continue. 17. Select an Operating System: Select the correct Windows OS that was copied and click the right-arrow. 18. Select a Memory Setting: Leave the default memory setting for Windows 98 and increase to 128MB for Windows 2000. Click the right-arrow. 19. Undo Drives: Undo drives should be disabled until the disk image is converted and the new VPC Additions are installed. Click the right-arrow to continue. 20. Select a PC Name: Enter the desired name and change the location, if necessary, and click the right-arrow. 21. Conclusion: Click Create to finish. 22. Virtual PC List: Select the newly created PC and click Start Up. Windows 98 When Windows 98 starts up the first time, it will detect new hardware and install the necessary drivers. Update the VPC Additions when the VM has loaded to the desktop.
