Sleek, attractive, thinner than most LCD TVs. Good sound, intuitive controls. I bought this tv to replace the one in our bedroom (of course i did not want to buy the kids a new one so they could x-box it away!

I got it from another online retailer for $100 less. I bought this on Cyber Monday so I got it for $380... It works fine now that they completely replaced the backlight. Great picture quality with lots of depth and a high contrast ratio. Plus.

So World TV is a Full HD (1080p) personal digital video recorder with a HD TV tuner which is MKV (H264) compatible and has an HDMI 1.3 input/output. The So World TV is designed with multi-output, including composite (AV) and HDMI. You can select different interface according to suit your needs. The So World TV can detect video output automatically, making the operation user-friendly and convenient. Please refer to the following instructions for problem-free connection. Composite output connection (AV)

White Red Yellow

Plug the yellow connector into the AV output of the So World TV and AV input of your TV, and plug the red and white connector into the audio input of TV or HIFI. Turn on the TV and select AV mode. Turn on the So World TV and the TV displays the interface of initiation. Coaxial output connection (cable not included)
Coaxial output: Connect the Coaxial connector of the media player with the coaxial connector of another video or audio device using a coaxial cable. Then enter the So World TV audio interface, select the Digital Output option "SPDIF LPCM" or "SPDIF RAW". You can enjoy 5.1 high quality sound through a multi channel decoder/amplifier with coaxial input. HDMI output connection (cable not included)
HDMI is an output that offers best audio and video effect with simultabeous digital video and audio composite output. Connect the HDMI cable to the output of So World TV and a display device with HDMI input. Select HDMI mode on the TV until it displays the start-up interface.
Connection methods to watch TV and for General usage
TV signal input interface The ANT IN interface can receive DVB-T (TNT) digital television signals. The LOOP interface can output DVB-T (TNT) digital television signals. After accessing the television signal, press SET-UP key to access the interface settings, select TV, set to begin.
1: TV signal input interface: The ANT IN interface can receive DVB-T (TNT) digital television signals. After accessing the television signals, press SETUP key to access the interface settings, select TV to enter. 2: TV signal output interface The LOOP interface can output DVB-T (TNT) digital television signals to directly access the TV input interface. However, there must be a TV signal input first. Operation Steps: Step 1:The ANT IN (1) interface must have a DVB-T (TNT) digital TV signal input, and the other interface LOOP (2) outputs a TV signal via the So World TV tuner or the So World TVs other interfaces e.g. AV or HDMI video signal outputs. Step 2: After turning on the So World TV, press SET-UP key to access to the settings interface. Select TV, enter the TV Region, choose your country or region. At the same time, choose Chanel Scan set. You can choose the AUTO SCAN auto-search television program. You can also choose MANUAL SCAN to begin manual setting, but you need to know the DVB-T (TNT) digital television programs specific Bandwidth and Frequency parameters. If you do not know, ask your local DVB-T (TNT) digital television signal provider to obtain access. Select the appropriate channels (CH), Bandwidth, enter the correct Frequency, and then press "ENTER" key to start scanning. You can see the screen displaying the number of channels and program signal quality. If the parameter setting is wrong, it will display Error. Please re-set the parameters for scanning. You can watch television programs at the same time as recording television programs. Press the "AV/TV" Remote control key to switch between different input sources.

Note : The contents you have recorded kept in the folder named with the time when you started recording. b. AV IN mode After the correct connection of the AV-in signal, power on the set-top box (or satellite TV receiver), TV and our recorder, switch the TV signal to AV-in, if you only want to watch TV, do not turn off the recorder and keep the input signal of the TV with the set-top box signal. When you want to select the program which one like, please choose the input video frequency the option to enter the television picture choose the television channel through the set-top box (Or satellite TV receiver). Select TV/AV IN menu to access the TV menu, you can select the TV channel through the set-top box (or satellite TV receiver). and press the REC key to start recording.
2. Watching a video recording All the recorded files are recorded in a folder named REC. Press the REC LIST key on your remote control or enter the Browser in the main menu and select HDD, you will find this recorded videos were saved in subfoldersq named according to the system time. You can preview the recorded files by pressing the ENTER key to playback.
Connection and set-up of network
The So World TV can play the files stored in the network directly through the router or hub. Connect the RJ45 cable according to the following illustration. The network is properly connected when the LED of network status and W/R LED blinks.
Connect one end of the RJ45 cable to the So World TV and the PC and connect to the video output. Press set-up key or select set-up menu in the start-up interface. Select the Network option in the set-up window and press ENTER to confirm. Both automatic and manual IP set-up options are available. Press the set-up key again to exit after set-up. In order to access the PC through the network by the So World TV, the media files must be shared on the network.
How to use the USB HOST interface A player with the ability to expand a large-capacity.The USB HOST port can read an external mobile hard disk, USB key, digital cameras, card readers and other data storage devices. Even without the installation of hard drive players, you can connect external storage devices through the USB HOST interface. To directly play a variety of high-definition formats high-fidelity audio and video files stored in external storage devices. To watch HD movies and digital photos in a better way, at the same time the digital audio signals to audio equipment can also benefit from high-fidelity sound effects. How to connect the USB interface to your PC This HDD Recorder & Player is also a personal multimedia file storage device and can be used by connecting to a PC via the USB interface. 1, Connect to the power supply. While using the HDD recorder & player with your PC, power supply is still required. 2, Connect to your PC with a USB cable. Connect the HDD Recorder & player to the PC with a USB cable to copy and transfer data.

Follow the instructions on the above picture to connect the device to PC. Turn on the PC and enter the system. The PC detects the device automatically and then the device can be used as an external USB storage device. After data transfer has finished, please remove the USB storage device safely (click the USB device icon to stop the USB device and then pull out the USB cable). Notes: 1, Please dont power off when connected to a PC for reading and writing. 2, If there is no USB detected after connected with USB cable, maybe the PC is operating another program, please disconnect the USB cable and wait about 10 seconds then connect again. The So World TV is also a personal multimedia files storage device and can be used by connected to the PC. You can browse and copy files easily. The following is the set-up for media file sharing on a PC (FOR ADVANCED USERS) Operation of file sharing under Windows XP Two conditions are necessary for a successful network connection. - Folder sharing and security set-up - Set the same gateway and subnet mark address. 1. Select the folder you wish to be shared, right click with the mouse and select the option Sharing and security, left click with the mouse. 2. Select sharing in the property option and select share this folder on the network and click Apply to confirming to exit.
3. Open Control panel- Management tool-Computer management-Local users and groups and click Users option. Right click Guest and select Properties. 4. Select users can not change your password and password never expires. Keep the other checkboxes unchecked. 5. Open Control panel- Network connection, and select Local Area connection and right click to select Properties. 6. In the Pop-up window, select Internet protocol (TCP/IP) 7. Set up the relevant IP address, subnet mask and gateway, you can also choose to automatically assign. 8. Completion of Windows XP network sharing. 9. Finally, close the Windows Network Connection Firewall Operation of file sharing under Windows Vista: 1. Please make sure that the Vista operation system is installed as Administrator supper user. 2. From the desktop select start- set-up-control panel-select user account 3. Open User account and select open a new account and name it Guest 4. Select the folder you wish to share and right click with the mouse, then select the sharing option. 5. Open the shared folder and add guest account to the list 6. Give the right to all the users after adding the Guest into the list. 7. Select sharing, and then the folder is shared. 8. Finish sharing 9. Operate the device in the same way as in the XP system Operation of file sharing under Windows 7: 1. Right-Click on the folder you want to share (for example "My Videos") > Select "Properties" as shown below :

Return

Select to return to the main screen.
Rename To rename a file, do as the followings: 1. Press the Up and Down navigation keys on the remote control to select the Rename tab from the menu bar. 2. Press ENTER on the remote control. The name entry screen appears. 3. Use the navigation arrows to select letters and numbers. Select CAPS to toggle between uppercase and lowercase letters. Press <- to delete a letter. Press -> to insert a space. Press ENTER to input each letter or number. 4. Once you have entered the new name, select OK and press ENTER to confirm all changes. If you want to cancel the naming during the process, press Return. Delete To delete a title, do the following: 1. Press / on the remote control to select the Delete tab from the menu bar. 2. Press ENTER to confirm and delete the file. 3. A confirmation message appears. Press / and select OK. 4. Press ENTER to delete the selected file. To cancel delete, select Return.
External DVD (for legal and authorized content only) The player is compatible with USB connected external DVD drives. The So World TV can play DVD when connected to an external drive by USB. Meanwhile, DVD content can also be copied to the hard disk so that, operations like backup information and so on can be performed. Connect the USB CD drive to the peripheral port of the So World TV through USB data line, then choose External DVD in the homepage of the So World TV and enter. If there is playable CD in the drive, and the DVD automatic play option in the So World TVs system is on, the drive will start playing the CD automatically. During the playing process, you can press STOP in the remote control to stop playing, then press RETURN to return to the So World TVs main interface, and then press STOP in the main interface to control the OPEN or CLOSE operations in the drive.
Network My Shortcut When you are browsing network, you can choose the computer name from menu or you can set Specific File Server IP and access it from My Shortcut in the menu. My shortcut is the easiest way to get files from a previously configured computer.
Press [OPTION] to access the My_Shortcuts interface. Then, choose Add, Modify, Delete, Return.
2) Input Net User ID, Password, Specific File Server IP address.
3) When you complete the configuration, you can add a new shortcut.
4) Select it and input the password; you can browse photos, listen to music, and watch videos through the network account.
Note: When data are connected to a computer on the network via a HDD, USB device or Card reader, you can also browse photos, listen to music or watch videos from these devices. UPNP UPNP means Universal Plug and Play, based on the TCP/IP protocol as well as new internet protocols aimed at communication between facilities. All the facilities connected to the internet can communicate without being interrupted by gateways, so that communication in the internet can become more fluidly, documents transmission can become more convenient and internet applications which could not be used before can be operated. These are all the part of the benefit brought by UPNP. The So World TV is UPNP compatible. Before using the UPNP function, please make sure that connected computer in the LAN has software that is UPNP compatible. If not, please install software or shared software that supports the UPNP gateway protocol. For example, connect the player to the family LAN, and then share multimedia documents in Media Player 11 to access the living room through UPNP.

TV/AV IN

Select TV/AV IN and press ENTER. Then you can enjoy and record the video with input from other video in sources.The hard drive must be formatted before recording refer to the HDD Format in system menu (Set-up Menu). In AV IN, press REC on the remote control or panel control to start recording. Press Stop to stop recording.
AV/TV: press the AV/TV button on the remote control, you can select the source of recording: the video or DTV. EPG: press the EPG key on the remote control to browse the electronic program guide on the screen, which includes the information of program forecast and arrangement.
TELETEXT: press the TELETEXT key on the remote control, you can view the information about DVB-related advertising that contains information such as the menu. For more information about the recording operation, please refer to Remote control button function, Timer Rec Menu and Changing Record Settings. Time shift Press time shift to active the function, and play to continue normal play, pause to hold, stop to cancel the time shift Permanent time shift, TV channels will be recorded automatically, the user can view by "skip forward", "fast rewind", "play" at any time. Note: The hard drive must be formatted before using Time shift, refer to HDD Format in the system menu ( Set-up Menu).
Timer allows you to create, edit and delete recording schedules and view all schedule status and history. Select Timer Record from the Guide menu, there are four options: Edit, Delete, Status and History. Please press Left and Right keys to select.
Creating a New Schedule 1. Select Edit.
2. Press Up and Down to select Add a New Schedule and press enter. The schedule setting screen appears.

On/off ,Nicam is short for near instantaneous companded audio complex. If it is selected ,the recorded audio has a high quality stereo effect during playback.
Using of Timer Rec The TV Recorder & Player has the Timer Recording function that you can plan recording schedules. After finishing the Time Rec schedule ,press the standby key on the remote. When the start time is on,the device powers on automatically according to the schedule set. When you plan to schedule recording , it is advised that you allow 5 mins ahead of schedule. Steps of Timer REC set up: Enter Timer in the main menu 1/ Select Edit from menu and select Add a New Schedule, then press ENTER key to enter. 2/ In Recording schedule set up menu, find the rest available recording time according to different recording quality level. Press the navigation keys to set up the recording time, length, quality level, place to save the recorded files and repeat recording time. 3/ After set-up is completed, press the ENTER key to confirm, you can select confirm or cancel to finish the recording schedule set up. 4/ You can set up one or more recording schedules and edit them.

News If you want to browse news, you just need to click the news website icon ( Such as BBC News, CNN News, NPR News) on the main interface by pressing the navigation key on the remote control and pressing the OK key to confirm. Then you can enter the news management interface.For example, if you click the BBC News icon, you will find the interface which includes News Front Page, Business News, Asia-pacific, etc. Press the "Up" and "Down" key to select your favorite news and press OK key to confirm,then you are able to browse various kinds of news, such as sports, finance, entertainment and so on.
Photos If you want to browse photos, you just need to click the photos website icon (Flickr or Picasa) on the main interface by pressing the navigation key on the remote control and pressing the OK key to confirm. Then you can enter the photos management interface. For example, select the flickr photos website and press the OK key to confirm. Then you can enter the photo management interface, where you can find the titles on the upper left corner: search photos, previous and next page.
If you want to search photos, just click the title Search Photos, the screen will display a keyboard interface used to input the content you want to search (such as dog), and press OK key to confirm, so you are able to browse all the photos about dogs, then you just need press navigation key to select you are interested. Previous/Next page: the option is used to turn previous or next page.

File Copy

The File Copy allows users to copy files between USB, CARD, HDD, and NET. Select File Copy from the Guide menu or select COPY on the remote control. It is very easy to copy files between various devices.
Copying operation Step 1: Select Source Device Press the "Up" and "Down" keys to select the device from which you need to copy at first after entering the File copy interface. Then press "Right" key to select Destination Device, press "Left" key to return. Step 2: Select Destination Device Press the "Up" and "Down" keys to select Destination device after going to the Destination sector. Then press the "Right" key to advance to the next step, and press the "Left" key to return. Step 3: Select files or folders to copy. In the Source sector, press the "Up" and "Down" keys to select and press SELECT to select the files or folders which you need to copy. "" appears at right side of selected file or folder.Then press the "Right" key to advance to the next step, and press the "Left" key to return. Step 4: Select the Destination folders Press the "Up" and "Down" keys to select a target folder in the destination sector. Then press the "Right" key to advance to the next step, and press the "Left" key to return. Step 5: Copy Status On the top menu, select YES to copy, select No to cancel. After copying has finished, the system will display File Copy is completed!, or will display File Copy failed! Select YES to browse the copied files, or select No to return to Video.

Set-up Menu

Select Set-up option or directly press Set-up key on the remote controller to enter the set-up menu. It is possible to configure TV, Audio, Video, Rec, Network, System and MISI. Select any option by pressing Up and Down on the remote controller, and press OK to confirm or press Return to exit. Press Set-up key again on remote control to exit from set-up menu. System Set-up Menu Language Setting screen display language: French - English - Italian - German - Dutch - Spanish - Portuguese Czech - Danish - Turkish - Russian - Hebrew - Polish - Dutch Text Encoding Setting text encoding language, Unicode (UTF8), Turkish, Central European, Cyrillic, SE European different languages and so on. Please select the corresponding text encoding, they may be garbled characters. Off /On.,select to turn on or off screen saver. Set DVD drive to play on or off automatically. ON/OFF. If Login control is ON,you are required to input the username and password when you login the neighbor web,otherwise you can directly login without inputting anything. Off/On,when it is on ,the movie can be previewed on the lower right corner of the screen. Off/On. When the movies did not play at the end of the pause, the So World TV will record video of the time suspended, the next player can choose "Resume Play" to continue playing from the last interruption point. ON/OFF If selecting seamless playback, the movie which has many chapters of HD movie in the same folder can be played back successively without stopping.

Audio Set-up Night Mode In comfort mode, it restricts the volume automatically so that it would not affect people resting or working. HDMI LPCM: The digital audio signal which is decoded by the So World TV outputs through the HDMI 2.0 channel HDMI LPCM MULTI CH: The digital audio signal which is decoded by the So World TV outputs through the HDMI 5.1 channel. HDMI RAW: The raw digital signal of the multimedia data directly outputs through HDMI,in the case the remote control cannot be used to adjust the volume. SPIDF LPCM: The digital audio signal which is decoded by the So World TV outputs through a coaxial cable. SPIDIF RAW: The raw digital signal of multimedia data directly outputs through coaxial, in the case the remote control cannot be used to adjust the volume.

Note: When selecting HDML LPCM/RAW,there is no signal output through the coaxial. If selecting SPDIF LPCM/RAW, there is no signal output through HDMI. REC Set-up Quality Permanent Timeshift REC Device Network Set-up Check the following items before use this function: Connection between So World TV and network Network protocol is available Wired Lan Set-up PC firewall must be shut down and Wireless LAN Files are shared Set-up (in option) Auto: Automatically set IP address Manual:select IP address, subnet mark address and default gateway. It is available through navigation and numeric key and press enter for confirming Pppoe set-up Plug the LAN port using the cable,then input the username and Password (provided by the ISP) in the box.Then press OK key to confirm. When the connection is success, you can get a IP address. Recording quality setting: HQ, SP, LP, EP, SLP Format: TS, Codec: MPEG2 The highest quality is HQ, which requires the most storage capacity. But the other settings reduce recording quality sequentially require less storage space accordingly. Set the Permanent time shift on or off. HDD, USB

Wireless Set-up (in option with a dongle Antenna)
You need to use a compatible USB Wi-Fi dongle to use this function. Though, some models could not work with the So World TV. Press [Set-up] on remote control and select NETWORK. Then, choose Modify.
Please select INFRASTRUCTURE or PEER TO PEER. INFRASTRUCTURE Infrastructure mode is used to connect computers with wireless network adapters, also known as wireless clients, to an existing wired network with the help of wireless router or access point. Select the access point you wish to access from the SSID list.
Note: In the Security list, WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) means the network is encrypted, i.e. an encryption key is needed to access the network. NONE means it is an open system network. 1)WLAN Security Setting
After enter the password, select [OK], A test connection will start. 2) Setting List The Setting List displays the network settings as shown below.
3) Test Connection The test will take a while. If the test is ok, the network information will be displayed
PEER-TO-PEER Peer to Peer mode, which is also called Ad Hoc or computer-to-computer mode, is used to connect wireless clients directly together, without wireless router or access point. 1) Ad Hoc Set-up
Then set Wireless SSID, Wireless Security, and Host IP for the Ad Hoc connection.
Note: Both the So World TV and computer need to use the Ad Hoc mode, share a common SSID, and be a part of the same IP range. 1) Save and Startup Press [PAUSE] to confirm below settings.
If the test is ok, the network information will be displayed.
PPPoe Set-up PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) is a protocol used by many ADSL Internet Service Providers. If your ISP uses PPPoE, but has given you a router, you may need a PPPoE client on your Linux box. DHCP may work fine. The So World TV is a PPPoE client for Linux and Solaris systems to connect to PPPoE service providers. The So World TV is ideal for users with a DSL "modem" whose Internet service provider uses PPPoE. Before you use this function , check whether or not you really need it. If your So World TV is connected to the network via DSL and PPPoE, the DSL service provider will provide a username and password for you to log in. After passing security authentication by telecom operators, the user can get the IP address and then the So World TV is connected to internet. The operations for PPPoE set-up as following: Step 1: Firstly use a telephone line to connect to the modem which supports PPPoE, then connect the So World TV to the modem via RJ45 port. Step 2: Select the option PPPoE set-up in the network set-up in Set-up menu.Input the net user ID and password which are provided by telecom operators.Then press OK button to confirm. Step 3: For several minutes, the user can get an IP address which is configured on the Ethernet. It indicates the net connection is success.

Q: The green icon appears but no disk symbol when the new So World TV connects to the system. A: The new hard disk may not be formatted, please check the chapter of partition and formatting Q: The hard disk can not be recognized under Windows 2000 / Windows XP operation system. Which means the connected device can not be recognized. A: It may be because the original USB driver is lost. Please reinstall your operating system, search for the disc driver or use the internet to find the USB2.0 driver procedure. Q: When I try to disconnect the USB device, I keep getting a message that the device Generic volume cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later message, what should I do? A: Close any program that might be accessing data on the player, including Windows Explorer. If it does not work, close all programs and wait for another 20 seconds, then try the green arrow icon again. If it still does not work, you should shut down the player and disconnect the USB cable. Q: During power on, why does the TV have a short flash, a blue screen or screensaver? A: This is normal, when the system starts-up, it will set-up the corresponding parameters so it can output the correct video signal to the TV, during the start-up phase, the TV will receive incorrect signals or the signals will not be stable and will cause the TV screen to flash, some TVs will treat this as no signal, and will display a blue screen or screensaver. Q: I have connected the Player to my television. Why is no picture showing on my television or no sound coming from my television? A: This problem may have several causes. Please check the following items: 1) Please ensure that you have selected the correct AV source on your television set. 2) Please check that you have connected the correct cable for the output of the video and audio signals. Information on the correct connection of the Player to your home entertainment system can be found in the "Connection of TV audio and video outputs" chapter in the basic operation instructions. 3) When the player is connected to HDMI or coaxial output, please choose the correct option in the Set-up menu. You can also refer to Audio Settings in Set-up Menu chapter. Repeat this procedure until the picture is correctly displayed on your television. Q: My Player is connected correctly to my television. I can no longer see my media files in the browser or they are only partially listed in the "Browser". A: A special media filter is active if you press one of four keys (such as ALL, MUSIC, PHOTO, MOVIES) on the remote control. Only media files that correspond to the active media filter are displayed on your television. If you select e.g. the media filter "Music" no picture files are shown in the browser. If you want to see all supported media files, please choose the media filter "All". a) Unsupported format. Your Player supports a great variety of media file formats, a detailed list can be found at the end of these instructions. If you try to play a file that uses an unsupported file format,a message will be displayed. If you want to check the utilized audio and video format for amedia file, you can refer to the specificationchapter. b) The chosen media source is not connected to the PLAYER If you select a media source that is not currently connected to the Player, such as a USB stick, this source will be displayed as empty. As soon as a device is connected, the content appears in the respective path. If no folders or files are displayed for a resource connected via the network, check the settings for your network and your network shares. Please check the user name and password, if they are required for accessing, and also the firewall settings on your computers. Q: I want to copy files onto an external data storage device with my Player, but I always get an error message. A: To use the copy function of your Player, the device (or the partition), that you want to copy the data onto, must be formatted with one of the following file systems: FAT, FAT32, NTFS, ext3.
