Temporary building for use on construction sites
Temporary Buildings are widely used on construction sites as site offices, canteens and rest areas etc. On some large construction site the number of temporary buildings can form a virtual village, a fire starting in one of these temporary buildings could be catastrophic if the fire were to break out and spread to other temporary buildings or to the building under construction. LPS 1195: Part 1 specifies the test and performance requirements for temporary buildings for use on construction sites at locations less than 6m from buildings under construction/refurbishment. The basic objective is to prevent a fire which has started in a temporary building from spreading to adjacent combustible materials, other temporary buildings or to the building under construction. A temporary building tested and approved by LPCB to this standard can be regarded as meeting the appropriate requirements of The Joint Code of Practice on the Protection from Fire of Construction Sites and Buildings Undergoing Renovation.

PART 5: SECTION 1.1

LPS 1048 approved sprinkler contractors Sprinkler systems are only effective if designed, installed and maintained correctly. The LPS 1048-1 Sprinkler Contractors scheme: Requirements for the approval of Sprinkler Contractors in the UK and Eire, ensures that installers are capable of designing, installing and maintaining sprinkler systems to the following installation standards: a. LPC Rules for Automatic Sprinkler Installations, incorporating BS 5306: Part 2: 1990, Specification for sprinkler systems, with LPC Technical Bulletins that are in force at the time, or Note - LPS 1048 Certificates of Conformity may be issued for Life Safety systems designed solely to BS 5306: Part 2: 1990 and TBs 1, 2 and 20, providing no other technical bulletins are used to carry out the design. All other contracts shall be certificated against the LPC Sprinkler Rules. b. LPC Rules for Automatic Sprinkler Installations, incorporating the latest revision of BS EN 12845, Fixed firefighting systems - Automatic sprinkler systems - Design, installation and maintenance, with LPC Technical Bulletins that are in force at the time, or Note - LPS 1048 Certificates of Conformity may be issued for Life Safety systems designed solely to BS EN 12845 and TB 201 and 202, providing no other technical bulletins are used to carry out the design. All other contracts shall be certificated against the LPC Sprinkler Rules. c. d. e. BS 9251 Residential and Domestic Sprinklers, or NFPA 13 (excluding 13D and 13R), or FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets (excluding Residential Data sheets).
Note: Hybrid and individualised corporate or institutional specifications are not acceptable to LPCB for the purpose of certification. Scheme Structure There are 4 approval levels for Sprinkler Contractors in the LPS 1048-1 scheme. Figure 1 below shows the Categories of Work that are allowed to be carried out at each approval level in the LPS 1048-1 scheme.
