AUTHOR GUIDELINES Submission of the Manuscript
Submissions are only accepted which match the profile of the journal, have not been submitted for print in another journal, and if the author (or team of authors) hold all copyrights for the submitted manuscript. The author accepts full responsibility for the originality of the work, for its scientific and formal accuracy. The journal publishes: theoretical papers (conceptual, theoretical and professional issue), research papers (original research papers, research case study), reviews (reviews papers, reviews protocol) in the field of nursing and midwifery. All submissions are peer-reviewed by two independent reviewers (double-blind). Manuscripts will be accepted to the review process in electronic form, written in Czech, Slovak or English, according to the online protocol, or sent to the email address: redakce@osu.cz Electronic submissions of a manuscript (Title, Abstract, Key words, Text of the article according to the provided structure, References) must be sent as Word document, other formats will not be accepted. Submissions to the email address must be sent from the authors email which will be used for further correspondence. Separate file must include information about the authors, including the full name, address, employer, email address and telephone number of the main author as well as the full name, employer and email address for all cooperating authors. Submissions will be registered with the date which they are received in electronic form by the editor. Concurrently, it is necessary to mail in the authors declaration, signed by all authors, to the following address: Editorial board of the Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Department of Nursing and Midwifery Faculty of Medicine University of Ostrava Syllabova 00 Ostrava Czech Republic The editorial board will respond via email within 10 working days confirming the submission of each proposed article. Published manuscripts become the property of the journal and further printing of part or all of the article in other publications is allowed only through quoting the original publication.
Ethical publishing principles
The Journal of Nursing and Midwifery makes an effort ensuring the best quality of published manuscripts from the field of nursing and midwifery through the double-blind peer-review process. To ensure such quality the peer-review process has to be objective, accurate and right minded it has to be realize on the base of the ethical principles and ethical decision making of authors, editors, reviewers and publisher. The basic ethical principles of publishing in the journal are on the web site for downloading.

Review Process

To be included in the review process the manuscript must fullfil all of the formal conditions stated in the instructions for authors. The review process is annonymous double-blind.
Manuscripts are judged based on content and formality. The editors do not knowingly send manuscripts to be reviewed by individuals who are professionally or personally connected to the author(s). The editorial board and the executive editor base their decision on the peer review, however the final result of the review process is the decision of the editorial board. The results of the review are sent to the author(s) within two months of the date the manuscript was first received. The review process may result in recommendations for further development of, or corrections in, the manuscript. In this case, the author is given three weeks, from the date the results of the review were sent to the author, to rework the document and make the necesssary changes. The author must then include, in a seperate file, a complete list of all major changes made to the manuscript. The editor reserves the right to make basic corrections to the manuscript.

Manuscript Types Accepted
All submitted manuscripts should include the title of the manuscript written in capital letters in Czech or Slovak, as well as English, and include a structured abstract, in Czech or Slovak and English, of a maximum 250 words (empirical study - aim, methods, results, conclusion; theoretical study - aim, background, methods and analysis, conclusion; systematic review aim, background, data sources, review methods, results, conclusion), five to eight key words (in Czech or Slovak and English), and the body of the text (maximum of 6,000 words) using the following structure: Empirical study Introduction Aim Methods Results/Findings Discussion Conclusion Ethical aspects References (alphabetical order) Theoretical study Introduction Aim Background Methods and Analysis Conclusion Ethical aspects References (alphabetical order) Systematic review Introduction Aim Background Data sources Review methods Results Discussion Conclusion Ethical aspects References (alphabetical order)
Manuscript Format and Structure
Authors are responsibile for the originality of the work, its objective accuracy and formal correctness. Manuscripts must be formated using Times New Roman font, size 12, in a normal text style and be single spaced. Pages are not to be numbered. Bold or italicized writing is to be used as little as possible. Tables, figures and pictures. The maximum number of tables, figures and pictures for a single manuscript is five. They must be placed in an appropriatly directly within the text of the document. All tables, figures and pictures must be part of the same file as the text. The size of the text on the tables should be between eight and ten. Tables, figures and pictures must be numbered and titled. Tables should be formated according to the given example (see below). Each table, figure or picture must be referred to in the text of the manuscript. Abbreviations. Abbreviations are to be used as little as possible. When used the first time, they must be completely written out. References. The document must contain accurate and complete bibliographic references for all quotations used. The reference in the text must include the authors last name, year of publication and page number (Haskovcova, 2000, p. 25). A complete reference list including all citations must be included at the end of the document and include only literature that is referenced in the text. References are listed in alphabetical order by last authors name and must not be numbered. References must include sufficient information to retrieve source material. If the manuscript includes multiple references from the same author, entries should be ordered chronologically.
