A system composed of these core elements has been sailing the seven seas on the cruise ship MS Deutschland, the eponymous hero of the hit German television series Traumschiff (Dream Ship).

The liner can accommodate up to 550 passengers, and these passengers demand not just to be entertained, but to be entertained in style. That means the sound reinforcement system has to be one hundred per cent reliable with first-class sound quality. After all, its hard to sustain an air of romance at a Caribbean pool party, even under the starriest of skies, if the sound system breaks down! No wonder, then, that the owners opted for high quality sound equipment when they were fitting out the ship. A Dynacord PowerMate 1000 has been in service on board for four years now and was joined on board a few months ago by a set of Electro-Voice Sx300 loudspeakers. Bernhard Bauer, Sound and Lighting Technician on board the giant cruiser, commented: The equipment has proved itself tremendously resilient and reliable. The ship encounters a wide diversity of climates, and weve found that the system functions just as well at 20 as at +40. Four years of salt breezes with relative humidity often as high as 90% may have left their mark on the surface of the mixer, but only on the surface; within, as Bernhard Bauer assured us: Everything is still functioning as flawlessly as the day it first came up the gangplank, and the musicians that perform on board the MS Deutschland are also highly appreciative of the quality of sound reinforcement we are able to offer them.
