Battery safety instructions
Use only Dyson batteries and charging unit for this appliance. The battery is a sealed unit and under normal circumstances poses no safety concerns. In the unlikely event that liquid leaks from the battery do not touch the liquid and observe the following precautions: Skin contact can cause skin irritation. Wash with soap and water. 1 When using the appliance, the light on the handle indicates the level of charge. A green light indicates the battery is fully or partly charged. A red light indicates the battery is fully discharged and needs charging. 2 The battery will become hot during use this is normal. 3 The appliance will cut out immediately when the battery has run out recharge for continued use. 1 To ensure your appliance is always ready to use, store it on the charger. 2 When connected to the charge, a red light indicates the battery is charging. A green light indicates the battery is fully or partly charged. Full charging takes around 3 hours. 3 optimum battery life always charge above 59F, 15C. For 4 Your Dyson battery comes partly charged. For full run time of 6 minutes, you should charge for 3 hours prior to use.

Using your Dyson Handheld appliance
Caution: 1 When wall mounting the recharging unit, always use the appropriate fixings for your wall type. 2 Check that there is no pipework or wiring directly behind the mounting/drilling area. 3 Dirt and debris may be released from the appliance if it is turned upside down. Ensure the appliance remains upright in use and store in the recharging unit. 4 not operate the appliance while checking for blockages. Do Please note: not carry out any maintenance or repair work other than that shown in this manual or advised by the Do Dyson Helpline. This appliance is designed for domestic use only. Do not use whilst the vehicle is in motion or while driving. not press down on the nozzle with excessive force when using the appliance as this may cause damage. Do the motor overheats, the appliance will cut out automatically. Leave to cool for at least an hour and check for If blockages before restarting. Fine dirt such as flour or plaster dust should only be vacuumed in very small amounts.

If youre looking for a new vacuum cleaner, the range of options can seem bewildering. Prices range from about 50 to more than 400, and you can choose between upright or cylinder (sometimes known as canister), bagged or bagless plus specialist models to help you cope with floorboards, pet hair, or allergy problems. largely a question of preference. handheld vacuum cleaners

Dyson DC16
Launched in 2006, the DC16 is Dysons first handheld vacuum cleaner. Although we havent tested handheld vacuum cleaners for a while, retrospective comparisons suggest that the DC16 will certainly hold its weight. Its great at vacuuming hard surfaces and carpet, and gets tightly into corners. At 1.6kg its light, and because its battery operated, youre not restricted by a cord. However, you wont be able to use it for prolonged periods of time as regular charging is required. It has brush and nozzle attachments, and the unit can be stored horizontally or vertically if you wall-mount the charging unit. In some tests, this handheld even outperformed some of the upright vacs that weve tested in the past, which is no mean feat. Pet hair is likely to take longer to clear up than with an upright, though. Its worth noting that this handheld vac only comes with a two-year guarantee as standard, as opposed to the fiveyear ones offered with most Dyson upright and cylinder cleaners. Its also available in car and boat (with lighter socket charger), and animal (with motorised brush) variants. pros Great on hard surfaces and carpets, gets tightly into corners, light, and easy to use on stairs cons Needs frequent recharging, takes time to pick up pet hair

Gtech HV01

This distinctive-looking Gtech handheld vac has two attachments to help clean different surfaces. Weve given it a try to see how easy it is to use. The long, narrow nozzle makes it easier to get into tight spaces. Theres also a V-head attachment (shown below) with castors designed to make it easier to manoeuvre on hard surfaces. With the V-head attached, the cleaner is easy to move round on hard surfaces the nozzle can pivot on the neck of the cleaner making it more directional. The Gtech is reasonable at picking up dust and small debris from hard surfaces, but as theres no brush attachment its not as good on carpeted and material surfaces. We got around 12 minutes continuous vacuuming from one charge on the freestanding charging unit. The cleaner is a little noisy, but its fairly easy to lift most of the weight seems to be positioned under the handle making it well balanced. Its fairly easy to unclip the dust container, but you have to lift the filter out by hand and we found removing dust from the filter was messy. pros Adequate for small debris pick-up on hard surfaces, easy to hold, more than 10 minutes use on one charge cons No mains adaptor for prolonged continuous use, noisy, no fully charged indicator, needs brush attachment to help on fibrous surfaces

Usability

The Best Buy Garmin Nvi 860T is the best currently available sat nav weve tested. It is easy to use, and offers strong performance across all assessment areas. It is easy to install, and the easiest of any to program our testers found the voice recognition system very responsive and useful. All programming can be done using this feature, with no need to touch the screen at all. It comes with European mapping covering 35 countries as standard. Routing accuracy is excellent, and the traffic management system provides good information, with estimated delay times. If you make a wrong turn, re-routing calculations are fast and accurate. Other powerful features include the ability to save favourite locations, either at programming stage or by saving current position.
The display is a reasonably large (109mm) widescreen format, which provides good, clear images, but isnt as good as some smaller screens for storage. That said, it can still fit into larger pockets.
It displays a split screen when approaching a turn, with a schematic view of the intersection and a countdown to the junction next to the route map. We also like the Panoramio feature, which provides photos and location information about favourites or points of interest.
