Excellent Software Final Draft 7 Professional Scriptwriting [OLD VERSION] I read reviews for both Movie Magic and Final Draft. Occasional nightmare. The industry standard, accepted everywhere. Easy to use but with bugs that will crash and lose your script FOREVER!!!

Not Worth A Dollar I have been using Final Draft since version 4. After endless crashes of version 6 on my Mac, I finally upgraded to version 7.

Remote Activation
All Materials Copyright 2006, Final Draft, Inc.

rev. 04.19.06

Introduction
The Final Draft Remote Activation is intended for use by IT or MIS personnel for multi-user-license Final Draft and Final Draft AV to provide a secure method for activating and deactivating copies of Final Draft products and to permit activation/deactivation of computers that are not connected to the internet or that are placed in a remote location. With a Final Draft product multi-user license, you will have received a Customer Number that can be used to activate seats purchased in the license. You should have given Final Draft Sales or Support the names of the people on the IT/MIS staff and they will be registered with the Customer Number. NOTE: Only these registered individuals will be entitled to technical support.
You should have also given Final Draft a Login Name and Password that you wish to use with Remote Activation.
NOTE: You cannot change the User Name or Password yourself. This must be done by Final Draft personnel. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the program has been installed on a computer with a Customer Number other than the one from the multi-user license it should be deactivated and uninstalled prior to installing and using the multi-user Customer Number.
After the program is installed on a computer, the computer must be activated in order to run for more than 15 days. Any computer that has been activated can be deactivated at any time. When a computer is deactivated the total number of available seats in the license will be incremented by one. WARNING: If a hard drive is reformatted before removing an activation, that activation will be lost. If this occurs, contact your Final Draft representative.

Using Remote Activation

Overview
The remote activation/deactivation process consists of installing a Final Draft product on the users computer, then going to the Internet and logging onto the Remote Activator URL where you will enter a code generated by the program on the users computer. The Activator will return a second code which is entered into the users program.
NOTE: It doesnt matter what type of computer the Remote Activator is running on or what type of computer is going to be activated. Correct codes will be generated for both Windows and Macintosh computers.

Activation

NOTE: The Remote Activator does not have to be run on the computer being activated (though it can be). However, someone needs to be operating the computer to be activated.
To activate a computer using the Remote Activator:
1 On the computer to be activated, install and then run Final Draft or Final Draft AV. 2 Enter the Customer Number when prompted. 3 When prompted to Activate, click Yes. 4 In the Activation dialog, click Manual Activation. On the following screen, a Challenge Code is

generated.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure the Challenge Code remains onscreen. If the Challenge Code is no longer onscreen it is no longer valid. WARNING: You cannot activate online. This prevents unauthorized use of your site license. If Activate Online is chosen, the copy of the program will not be activated.
NOTE: Either program will run for 15 days without activation once the Customer Number is entered. If you need to activate from within the program, choose Help> Activate and then click Manual Activation.
5 Launch your or any computers Internet Browser. 6 Go to: http://remote.finaldraft.com 7 Enter your Login Name and Password and click Login.
NOTE: You should have given Final Draft a Login Name and Password that you wish to use with the Remote Activation.
The Remote Activator screen appears:
8 Enter the Challenge Code in the appropriate field. Click Activate. A Response Code appears. The number
of Remaining Activations is decreased by one.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure the Challenge Code is still onscreen. If the Challenge Code is no longer onscreen it is no longer valid.
9 Enter the Response Code in the appropriate field on the computer that is to be activated and click

Activate.

10 The program will be activated and will run without restrictions.

Deactivation

To deactivate a computer using the Remote Activator: 1 On the computer to be deactivated, run the program.
2 Choose Help > Deactivate. 3 In the Deactivation dialog, click Manual Deactivation. On the following screen, a Deactivate Code is
generated. WARNING: You cannot deactivate online. This prevents unauthorized use of your site license. If Deactivate Online is chosen, the program will not be deactivated.
4 Launch your computers Internet Browser. 5 Go to: http://remote.finaldraft.com 6 Enter your Login Name and Password and click Login. The Remote Activator screen appears (see

previous).

NOTE: You should have given Final Draft a Login Name and Password that you wish to use with the Remote Activatior.
7 Enter the Deactivate Code in the appropriate field. Click Deactivate. Unless there is a problem, the
number of Remaining Activations is increased by one.
NOTE: If there is a problem, an error message will appear in the Deactivation Status area. Call your Support Representative and report the message.

Introduction Storage Sharing Versioning Collaboration Conclusion 8 9

Introduction

Whether you write with a partner or not, ultimately you will be collaborating with others during the writing and production process. Like most other word processors, Final Draft scriptwriting software stores documents as les in a folder (or directory) on the users local hard drive and these les are only accessible through the desktop application. This storage method makes collaboration for scriptwriters and other entertainment professionals complicated. Final Draft Connect will remove points of pain by providing new tools through this new service that will specically address collaboration, sharing, storing and versioning.
Storage Sharing Versioning Collaboration Conclusion
Introduction Storage Sharing Versioning Collaboration Conclusion

Storage

Scenario:
A writer wants to access scripts from both a desktop at home and a laptop in the oce without using ash drives, e-mail, third-party applications, or other error-prone methods.

Feature Solution

You will have the ability to store your scripts in a database via the Final Draft Connect service, which will provide stable, secure connectivity and will be backed up for additional safety and security. With Final Draft Connect all of your script les are accessible to you from anywhere at any time. For security purposes the script les will be password-protected, so you will need to log in when you connect. When you access a le with Final Draft Connect, a copy is immediately created on your computer or the copy you had is immediately updated. This process allows you to work without being connected, if you wish. When you log in to Final Draft Connect, the work you did to the le on your computer will automatically be uploaded.

Sharing

A writer wants to get notes on a script from his agent and producers but doesnt want the script le edited or modied. Currently, this situation means e-mailing PDFs and receiving notes from a variety of people. Each set of notes must then be incorporated back into the script, or master document, by using cut and paste.
Since Final Draft Connect can be made available to multiple users via log in and password, you will be able to share your work with anyone you chose. You can also set dierent permission levels. For example, you can decide that Bob may only read the script, Sue may only read and add notes to it, and Mary may read, add notes, and edit it. You can change any of these permissions or grant more people access to the project at any time.

Versioning

1. 2. For legal purposes, a writer or a guild wants to determine who wrote which parts of a script and when they wrote them in order to attribute credit to the proper writer. A production company or studio wants to manage revisions of a script being written by multiple writers in multiple locations and lmed in numerous locations by various teams.
Final Draft Connect stores your documents in a database. Each time you make changes the document is again updated in the database. Since each draft is stored without replacing your previous drafts, every change you make to your script will be saved, like layers of paint. In your Final Draft Connect space you will be able to see all of the layers, or le history of your script. If desired, you can peel back the layers and see what was there beforeevery paragraph, every scene. Even content that has been deleted from the current draft will be available. Easy and ecient access to previous versions has many benets. For example, you want to refer back to dialogue you wrote in your very rst draft but have since altered multiple times. With Final Draft Connect there is no need to search through multiple drafts of scripts and copy and paste. You will be able to quickly nd what you wrote

(continued)

and even choose to pull it back into the current version. Additionally, each version will have a time stamp indicating when the document was last modied. At any point in the process, anyone with permission to access the document can see who wrote what and when.

Collaboration

Writing partners are trying to manage revisions of their script. Currently they are writing separately on their own computers and then manually merging together each others changes into a single master script. Finding favorite pieces of the script among the various drafts and documents and merging them into a master document is a time-consuming, dicult process. Managing the master document where all revisions are made often means using complicated naming conventions for each draft to keep them distinct and clear. These naming conventions can result in lengthy, confusing and impractical le names.
With Final Draft Connect, a revision of the document will be a snapshot of a set of paragraphs. Final Draft Connect will handle check out and check in of documents and will also manage multiuser access. In other words, any one of your collaborators can be given permission to work on the script with you in real time. You will be able to see what they do and vice-versa, and everything will be saved as layers on the server. They will also be able to collaborate with you from wherever they have a network connection. If you both changed the same scenes oine, Final Draft Connect will help you merge those two versions together, allowing you to choose what to keep and what to delete. Both versions are stored; however, so you can revert back to the original at any time.

Conclusion

Since its release in 1991, Final Draft software has set the standard for scriptwriting and has been the leading tool used by industry scriptwriters. With the release of the Final Draft Connect service, writers working in the same oce or writing partners living thousands of miles apart will be able to share their work via Final Draft Connect. No longer will it be necessary to print out pages and pages of script or e-mail documents back and forth. Rather, you will be able to read and edit your projects together in real time. The Final Draft Connect service will not only provide a way for writers and lmmakers to create their work using the best technology and tools available, it will also transform the writing process and set yet a new standard for scriptwriting and studio development in the 21st century.
