What is Smart Drive? It takes a lot of brain power to make things really simple. That, in a sentence, is the essence of Smart Drive. Traditional washing machines are made up of many moving parts. Their complexity also means theres a lot that can go wrong withthem. Fisher & Paykel Smart Drive machines are made of just three main parts: a small computer, a flexible agitator, and a simple direct-drive motor. When we invented this technology back in the 1990s, it was a major breakthrough. And today, its still considered one of the most innovative technologies available in the global market. Now heres the amazing part. Simple as they are, Smart Drive machines also give you more control over your wash than any other machine. How smart is that?
Whats the secret? The Smart Drive motor includes sensors that can detect many features of the clothes-load in the machine. It can tell the size and weight of the load, the kinds of fabrics, and how evenly distributed it is. This information is sent to the computer, which immediately starts crunching the data. Within moments, its telling the motor exactly what kind of wash it should perform to achieve the best results. How fast to spin, how hard to push against the clothes, and muchmore. And when we say exactly what kind of wash, we really do mean exactly. Traditional machines have a limited number of wash options. But in a SmartDrive machine the motor is capable of an infinite number of wash actions. Its like hand washing, when your own senses let you adjust precisely to the feel of the fabric. Throughout the wash, the motor and the computer are continuously talking to one another. So the machine continuously adjusts its speed to give a great clean while also caring for yourclothes. Its not just the motor and computer that are smart. Most Smart Drive machines are fitted with flexible agitator fins that work a lot like your fingers. Sensors in the motor measure resistance against the fins, effectively feeling the load. Not only does the motor adjust its actions in response to this, but the fins themselves allow delicate fabrics to slide easily past, while pushing energetically against heavy fabrics for a thoroughclean. The dryer requires a 230 - 240V single 50Hz sinusoidal AC supply. It must be connected to an individual branch circuit rated for at least 30 amps and protected by its own fuse or circuit breaker. Either an isolating switch or a plug and socket (or both) rated for at least 30 amps is required in the circuit in a position close to the dryer and accessible after it is installed. Dryer Connection A suitably qualified person must do the electrical part of the dryer installation.
The dryer stands on the floor and can easily be moved into position.
The dryer can be located in a cupboard or alcove and positioned next to a clothes washer. Minimum clearances are required.

These are dimensions looking at the back of the dryer. When looking at the wall to cut the duct hole, dimensions will be the mirror image of these.
The Intuitive Dryer can only be vented from the rear. Choose a route that will provide the straightest and most direct path outside. Plan the installation to use the fewest number of elbows and turns. Solid ducting is preferable.
