How to connect your mobile phone with your Ford
via Bluetooth
Before you can use your phone in your Ford, you have to create a Bluetooth connection. First familiarize yourself with your mobile phones Bluetooth functions (see the user manual for your phone) and then proceed as follows: 1.Switch on your phones Bluetooth function. 2.In the Bluetooth menu on your phone, search for Ford Audio and then select it. 3.A personal PIN will now appear on the radio display. Enter this PIN in your mobile phone. If no PIN appears on the radio display, enter 0000 in your mobile phone and then the PIN that appears on the radio display. 4.If your mobile phone asks you to authorize the automatic connection, confirm with Yes. 5.Now your phone is active and you can use the handsfree functions. Tip: When you drive the car again, your mobile phone will automatically connect (ignition/Ford audio system on). You can register up to six mobile phones in the system, but only one can be the active phone you use to make or take calls. You have several options for making a phone call using your Ford audio system, which are described in the following section.
Phoning safely in your Ford
1. Dialling by entering numbers on the radio keypad You can enter the desired number manually. Press the Phone button on your radio keypad and enter the desired number. Then press the Green Receiver button (Dial). The system will connect you. You can end the call by pressing the Red Receiver button (End). Some radio models do not offer this function. 2. Dialling via voice command Your Ford audio system can connect your call via voice command. Your action: Press the VOICE button (MODE button) Say Phone Say Dial number The system replies: Beep Phone Number please With the phone number and adds Enter the desired phone number as described below Continue Continue entering the number or say Dial Dialling
Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5
Say the phone number in blocks of digits or as an uninterrupted sequence of digits. The system will repeat the digits as a block. Please do not use any filler words. Tip: You can say the voice command Dial right after saying the full number. To simplify dialling, you can use voice commands to save up to twenty phone numbers under their corresponding names and then call them up via the Name directory. For more details, please see your Ford drivers manual. 3. Dialling a number in your phonebook using the radio system The Ford audio system uses the personal phonebook stored in your mobile phone (provided the phone supports this function). To make use of your personal phonebook entries, press the Phone button on your radio. Look in the Phonebook menu to select the entry you want and then press the Green Receiver button to connect (Dial). 4. Dialling a number from your calls list using the radio system Another way to make a call is to use your mobile phones calls list (provided your phone supports this function). Press the Phone button and choose from the menu either Missed Calls, Received Calls or Dialled Numbers. Select the number you want from the phone numbers stored there and press the Green Receiver button to connect (Dial). 5. Taking calls You can take incoming calls with the Green Receiver button (Accept) or the Phone button.
Enjoying mobile music in your Ford*
You can connect a number of different mobile music sources to your Ford audio system and listen to the music of your choice in high quality stereo sound. For further information on the compatibility of available music players go to www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com Depending on the audio system, you can choose from the following music sources: USB storage media Just insert e.g. a USB stick in the USB port and choose it as playback source on your audio systems menu. You will see the file structure of your USB stick on the display. Supported audio formats: MP3, WMA** and WAV. Apple iPod You can operate your iPod just like you usually do using the Ford audio system. For the best operating comfort and optimal sound quality, we advise using the system-specific connector cable for Apple iPods available from your Ford dealer (FINIS CODE: 1529487). Alternatively, you can also use the iPod USB cable in connection with an audio cable to connect to the AUX jack. Bluetooth music source, for example Smart Phones Via the Bluetooth connection you can play music tracks stored on your mobile phone in stereo. How to activate the music source of your choice Connect the music player you want to use to your Ford audio system. Select the desired source (USB, iPod or Bluetooth) by pressing the AUX button repeatedly until you see it displayed, or via voice command. The device you selected will automatically begin playback. Tip: You can also use the USB port to charge your mobile device.
* Mobile music functions are only available with the USB/iPod equipment package. In this case your car will be equipped with a USB port, which is located, depending on car model, either in the glove compartment, the centre console or the armrest compartment. ** DRM-protected WMA files will not play.
The Ford voice control system safety and convenience
Voice commands allow you to operate both your Ford audio system and your mobile phone. You can control several functions using a defined dialogue with fixed voice commands. The dialogue is set up according to a simple scheme: the system confirms each voice command byrepeating it. The microphone is directed toward the drivers seat. Speak the command clearly and at an appropriate volume.
Voice control is this easy
To experience how easy it is to use voice control, try out the system using the following example: Activate the voice control system by pressing the VOICE button (MODE button)*, wait till you hear the beep and then say the command. You can interrupt the activated command at any time by pressing the VOICE button (MODE button) again. For example, it just takes a few simple steps to tune in the radio station of your choice: Your action: Press VOICE button (MODE button) You say Radio You say FM You say e.g. 102.4 The system replies: Beep Radio FM, frequency please Tune 102.4
Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4
As you can see, a dialogue consists of just a few easy steps. Press the VOICE button (MODE button), choose a device, select a function and indicate the value/name. Please keep in mind that background noise in the vehicle (e.g. an open window or passengers talking) can interfere with the voice control system. Please use only the predefined commands (see Commands List). Note: When combined with the navigation system DVD/Touch Screen Navigation (NX), the speech commands shown on the screen shall apply. See the manual for more information.
* The VOICE button (MODE button) is located either on the audio remote control on the steering wheel or on the turn signal lever.
Useful voice commands
Help When you dont know what to do, you can use the voice command Help at any time to hear the possible commands available. Cancel Use the command Cancel or press the VOICE button (MODE button) to end the dialogue at any time. By pressing the VOICE button (MODE button) again, you can start up a new voice dialogue Correction When entering a phone number, use the command Correction to delete the last block of digits you entered. The system will repeat the blocks it has understood up till then. Then you can continue your entry at that point. Direct commands To shorten the dialogue, you can use the following direct voice commands, among others, after pressing the VOICE button (MODE button): Dial name Dial number Redial Mobile name Tune name Track (with active source CD, USB, iPod) Playmode (for shuffle and repeat of music files) Temperature Auto mode Defrosting on Demisting on Defrosting off Demisting off Cancel
Please familiarize yourself with your voice control system. After just a few steps you will discover how much fun it can be.

In-Ear Monitors
Monitors are the lifeline of singers and musicians. Try turning off the monitors of a singing group in a large auditorium in the middle of a song. Both the singers and the musicians would be lost. I doubt whether they could even finish the song. Because they depend so much on what they hear via the monitor speakers, many singers and music ministers go too far and want the monitors so loud that monitor levels dominate the front-of-house audio, indirectly making up a large part of what the audience is hearing, and producing a muddy sound in the house that cannot be fixed by sound system tuning and equalization. Typically, loud monitor levels flood the choir mics, making choir microphone pickup virtually useless. The frustration caused by these problems has contributed to a decline in standard choirs in some Churches, leaving only the smaller praise groups to lead worship. As monitor problems increase, the following rule of thumb comes into play: At any location in the audience listening area, if the house sound (direct field) is not at least 6 db louder than the reflected sound (reverberant field) from the stage monitors, we have a serious problem at that location. Within the last five years, the use of in-ear monitors has done more than any other single improvement to solve the problem of stage monitor interference with front-of-house sound. An in-ear monitor is typically a wireless, but sometimes a wired system with a special tiny pair of earpieces that are inserted in the ears of a singer or musician and are virtually invisible to the audience. The sound level of the in-ear monitor is controlled by the person using it, and obviously, monitor feedback is not a factor, since there are no speakers to feed back. The fidelity of the in-ear monitor is at least as good as the best monitor speaker you can buy, with wonderful bass response and silky smooth highs. The level at which a musician can run the in-ear system is limited only by what the persons hearing can take without damage. In-ear monitors have stereo ability and sound great when run in stereo. Unlike monitor speakers that have a narrow sweet spot that disappears once the singer walks out of that area, a wireless in-ear monitor makes it possible for the artist to take perfect sound with him/her wherever they go onstage. While wireless in-ear monitors are expensive, the expense is typically less than the total expense that goes into a monitor speaker system with its associated equalizers, amplifiers and wiring. In-ear monitors can be purchased and installed incrementally, starting with the person who needs the loudest monitor. As an improvement in the main house audio is noted, we can add more of the in-ear monitors until monitor speaker interference with house audio is no longer a problem. One thing to keep in mind;
in-ear monitors completely shut out all outside sound, because they fit snugly into the ear. Because of this, the correct mix will be a little different for the in-ear monitors than it is for floor monitor speakers, but once the mix is set, the detail, fidelity and level of the in-ear system is a hands-down winner over anything I have ever tried. To help correct this small problem, an on stage mic can be used to pick up sound in general and this can be mixed in to add stage ambience for the singers and musicians. This is similar to placing an ambience mic in an auditorium that is mixed in with a broadcast radio or recording mix to add the reverberation and response of the congregation to the audio to make it sound more realistic. Although there are a number of good in-ear monitors on the market, We have been particularly impressed with the in-ear systems by Shure, especially with the E-5 earpieces that have the bass and high frequency units built into one tiny, powerful unit with a crossover. If you are interested in learning more about in-ear systems in general, just email me and ask for An introduction to personal monitoring systems (AL1376A) or the specification brochure on Shure in-ear systems (AL1433,15M). When you finally try an in-ear system, besides solving a lot of problems, you will be in for an acoustic treat.
