More information on this subject can be found on the Internet under:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/techinfo/administration/wirelesssecurity/xpsupport.asp
Page 7 of 12 Advanced Configuration Power Management Interface (ACPI) The LIFEBOOK E Series comes pre-equipped with the hardware and software prerequisites and thus is ready for ACPI. There are two modes that can be chosen in order to save power: Save-to-RAM and Save-to-Disk. The modes can be activated via the suspend/resume button, which has to be programmed for one mode. In Save-to-RAM mode, the notebook goes into a sleep state. A few seconds after pressing the button, the user is returned to the point where he or she left off working previously. When the LIFEBOOK E Series is placed in Save-to-Disk mode, the entire system status, i.e. the status of all applications, all installed devices and main memory, is stored on the hard disk. Fujitsu Siemens Computers advanced cooling technology As processor frequencies increase, so does the heat generated. The solution that most notebook vendors use to dissipate this heat is bigger and bigger fans, to the extent that some notebooks are becoming very noisy and with the fan at full speed can almost hover on the desk. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has spent years developing worlds leading Heat Pipe technology that enable the heat to be carried away from the processor without the necessity of a fan. Besides this, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has also invested heavily in developing thermal analysis tools to ensure that our notebooks are the coolest on the market. Ergonomics Keyboard & Palm rest support All LIFEBOOKs feature an ergonomically optimized, generously sized palm rest support, guaranteeing comfortable operation even during prolonged use. Both the TouchPad and mouse buttons are responsive and ergonomic. Quick Touch application buttons Quick Touch buttons were originally designed in order to make life a lot easier for a LIFEBOOK user. Just like on most of the electronic devices that are sold today, notebook users wanted some hot buttons which they could use to launch an application or perform a task quickly. They are meant to be used as shortcuts for launching your Web browser, e-mail and other applications. Using the same buttons you can protect your notebook against unauthorized access (Security Panel). Security Security is a crucial issue, especially in the notebook sector. Security must be guaranteed in several respects. The notebook has to be protected against theft. As theft of the notebook is the number one risk, a method of protecting it from being stolen should have first priority. The LIFEBOOK E Series can be protected against theft by using a Kensington Slim MicroSaver, which is a 1.8 meter long, lockable, galvanized steel cable or by Targus Defcon1, a notebook alarm tool. Both can be ordered as accessories Pre-boot security The LIFEBOOK E Series sports a unique Security Panel that allows pre-boot security. To enter the BIOS and to start the notebook the user has to enter a four-digit PIN code. Once your notebook is powered on, the Security Panel buttons can be used as Quick Touch buttons (see Ergonomics). Hard Disk protection With a dual password protection based in the BIOS, the hard disk can also be password-protected. The content of the HDD cannot be read even when connected to another computer. Only 2 FSC engineers have the qualifications and tools to reset these passwords, if lost or forgotten. Access and data protection Access and data protection is of utmost importance. Mobile computing becomes more and more accepted in the corporate market. Valuable data stored on the notebook should be protected all the better. This can be achieved e.g. by the SmartCard reader function. With the 0Z711E1 PC Card controller from O2Micro with integrated SmartCard controller all necessary components for SmartCard usage are integrated into the notebook. When the notebook user would like to use a SmartCard in the PC Card slot, he only needs the provided SmartCard Holder, an additional external SmartCard reader is not required. The preloaded operating systems offered by Fujitsu Siemens on E7010 and E 7110 are SmartCard-enabled OS from Microsoft. An example of usage is where the user pulls his SmartCard out of the booted and working system and goes to a meeting while his system is blocked against unauthorised access. When the user comes back he puts the card back again into the slot and goes on working. In order to provide an instant usability of this unique security offer, a Standard Security Kit is delivered as standard with your LIFEBOOK E Series. The Kit includes the SmartCard Holder which fits into the PC Card slot. A CD is enclosed, which includes not only drivers for the reader but also try&buy versions of diverse security software, valid for a period of

Page 8 of days. This includes authentication software, Password and Security Officer 2000 and SIMedit! for administering mobile phone cards. This package does not include any SmartCards, which are available as accessories, but with the supplied software you can already start using your banking card or program your GSM Card. The internal reader is compatible to nearly all major SmartCard suppliers who comply with the PC/SC-standard ISO 7816 1-4. More Information on the Standard Security Kit and its content can be found on the Extranet under:
http://extranet.fujitsu-siemens.com/pc/notebooks
Manageability Many companies have a huge network that is highly complex and complicated to handle. In order to make the administrators life easier in terms of network management and administration of notebooks, the new E Series is equipped with intelligent mobile manageability tools. Results are noticeable in reduced Total Costs of Ownership of up to 30%, or even more, of the day-to-day operating costs. The mobile version of the manageability software DeskView contains the following modules. DeskInfo enables the user to get detailed information on the complete hardware configuration and to read notebookrelated information via DMI or WMI and view this data on screen or print it out. The information available includes general notebook information, technical information, service and dealer information, user-defined data and status of the notebook. DeskAlert detects hardware failures or changes by continuously monitoring the notebook system. DeskAlert handles events via local or remote pop-up window or entries in logfiles, displays the status of the HDD and issues a warning if certain threshold values are violated. This allows the replacement of the HDD before damage occurs. DeskFlash permits easy BIOS updates to be initiated directly from the operating system. Distribution of a new Bios release is possible vis the network, with or without user intervention. DeskFlash also permits to store complete BIOS and CMOS values. DeskOff enables you to switch the PC or the operating system on a PC into different operating modes. If supported by the PC, the following modes are possible: switch off the PC (PowerOff) shut down the operating system reboot the PC switch into the energy-saving mode (Standby) switch into the Hibernate mode log off the user PCs with the operating system Windows NT 4.0 can also be shut down and powered off with DeskOff. Under Windows for Home Use (Windows 9x, Me) the Hibernate mode action is not possible. Under Windows NT4, the energy-saving modes (standby, hibernation) are not supported. DeskOff supports a command line interface so it can be seemlessly integrated into batch jobs. (a collection of commands executed one after the other) DeskWoL enables a notebook to be switched on via the network with "Wake On LAN" technology. It allows you to turn on one or more notebooks from an administrator workstation with a command to the LAN adapter ("magic packet"). If corresponding client management services are installed on the client, procedures and programs can be run automatically after switching on the client notebook.
