1 Fujitsu Siemens Deutschland GmbH 1.1 Company background
The company Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) was formed in October 1999 when Fujitsu Computers (Europe) Ltd. merged with Siemens Computer Systems. Fujitsu Limited and Siemens AG each have an equal stake in Fujitsu Siemens Computers. With some 7,000 employees, FSC is Europes leading computer company and Germany's market leader in a number of segments. Under its motto The computing you trust the mobility you need, FSCs strategic orientation focuses particularly on the topics of business-critical computing and mobility. Fujitsu Siemens Computers, which has its European headquarters in Amsterdam/The Netherlands, supplies the end-customer and business-customer markets in 25 European countries with a full range of computer products, from Notebooks via PCs and workstations, Intel and Unix servers all the way to mainframes and storage systems. The global cooperation of Fujitsu and Siemens facilitates access to the leading global computer technologies and an additional 45,000 employees working in customer service. FSC also benefits from the economies of scale of Fujitsu Limited and Siemens Computer Systems in the fields of purchasing and supply management. A separate product and supply organization is responsible for sourcing, development, production and order processing. Independent sales companies in all the key European markets manage the clientele, which includes most of Europes top 1,000 companies, more than 2,000 of the leading value-added resellers, distributors and systems integrators, and more than 100,000 sales partners and retail outlets. Over 2,500 sales professionals are employed in the companys own direct sales organization. The German sales organization of Fujitsu Siemens Computers is based in Bad Homburg. Its orientation toward defined customer target segments calls for close cooperation with the channels and partners as well as intensive customer service involving support from teams of experts. Major customers are supported directly by account managers working in cooperation with partners. Full coverage of the entire country is provided with eight regions and 12 regional offices, ensuring quick response times and providing the user with a nearby presence. The requirements of the various sectors are addressed by means of special LoBs (Lines of Business). In addition to government offices and financial service providers, the main focus is on telecommunications, industry, the retail trade, energy suppliers and the service sector. Ten centers for medium-sized enterprises concentrate on supplying services for larger medium-sized customers, thus ensuring in particular that FSC has a regional presence close to customers and partners alike throughout Germany. The consumer business is run indirectly via partners. Department stores, electronic goods chains, mail order businesses and hypermarkets distribute Fujitsu Siemens Computers products that have been developed and manufactured especially for this end-user channel. Special product developments can be arranged for large-scale consumers. The large quantities involved result in economies of scale that considerably strengthen the competitive positive of Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the consumer market. Fujitsu Siemens Computers in Germany generates over 50% of overall Group sales. The German sales organization employs some 1,400 staff and achieved sales of around 3.1

billion in fiscal year 2000 (1.4.2000 to 31.3.2001). Some 450 to 500 staff willl, in future, be employed at the companys Bad Homburg headquarters. 1.2 Specific offering in the security field 1.2.1 Strategic orientation Fujitsu Siemens Computers seeks to position itself primarily as a hardware supplier that additionally offers associated IT services. Enterprise security and e-security are among the traditional core competences of the company, and are regarded as a strategic feature that sets the company apart from its competitors. Security is an integral component of the solution offering and serves as an important enabler for the sale of future-capable products. The core business of FSC provides a wide range of hardware products, including the following in particular: PRIMEPOWER Enterprise Unix servers based on SPARC64TM GP processors from Fujitsu PRIMERGY Intel-based servers Storage systems and solutions LIFEBOOK/Amilo notebooks for professional and private users SCENIC professional PC product family CELSIUS Intel-based workstations
1.2.2 e-security: Solutions and services In cooperation with leading providers of security products, Fujitsu Siemens Computers offers a finely tuned range of security solutions designed especially for corporate use. In addition to the conventional availability topics, clustering and storage, the focus here is also on data and communications protection. The core products of FSC, together with special components such as smart card readers and fingerprint sensors, form the basis for data and access security. The action area extends from the client all the way to complex server and mainframe solutions. In addressing the issue of data and communications protection, Fujitsu Siemens Computers opts to use its core products in conjunction with providers of best-in-breed solutions in the security environment. Here, FSC acts as the systems integrator throughout, from concept design all the way to implementation. The framework for the partnerships is provided by the international Global Alliance Partner

Program. In selecting its partners, Fujitsu Siemens Computers places great value on the integration capability and scalability of the respective solutions. The individual components of the solution offering are outlined below. Field Firewalling/border security Content security Authentication Cryptography Security management Details Filters at network and applications level, intrusion detection, logging, evaluation, system hardening Virus scanners, secure e-mail, protection against website tampering Single sign-on, biometrics, access control via smart card, electronic authenticity certificates, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) VPN, data carrier encryption, encrypted Internet sessions Intrusion detection systems, update management, secure operating systems (trusted OS), policy management Source: Fujitsu Siemens Figure 2: Solution components in the field of e-security Enhancement of the security offering in Germany is supported in particular in the service area by the security team operating in the e-mobility competence center, as well as via extension of the specific product range. The security team is established on a central, supraregional basis. It covers all LoBs (Lines of Business) as a cross-sectional operating unit. The security team staff works on an industry-wide basis. Beyond supplying IT security services, it is responsible for part of the know-how transfer within the company, especially in terms of feedback to the areas responsible for product development and design. Hier Abbildung (englisch) einfgen. Figure 3: Fujitsu Siemens security service process Source: Fujitsu Siemens
The security team collaborates extremely closely with competent systems integrators and consultants on the basis of strategic partnerships, thus allowing an extremely wide range of requirements to be met quickly, competently and reliably.
1.3 Sales and distribution Fujitsu Siemens Computers relies on industry know-how in the field of sales. Sales of security-relevant product components and solutions are also the responsibility of the Lines of Business (LoBs). Sales employees receive special training in security matters. There are, however, no dedicated security specialists among the sales representatives, all of whom deal with this topic as the situation arises and include the expert competence of the security team or its partners in discussions with the customer at an early stage.
1.4 References Reference LSV Oberbayern

Brief description Customer The Landwirtschaftliche Sozialversicherung (LSV) social security scheme is represented by four independent public corporations that aim to provide comprehensive social security for agricultural and forestry employees. The tasks of the LSV are performed by 19 regional institutions active across Germany, including the LSV Oberbayern, which is based in Munich and Mhldorf. Project As of the beginning of 2000, the previous security solution Eagle from Axent, which ran on an RM 300 server from Fujitsu Siemens Computers no longer fulfilled requirements, largely as a result of the new e-business requirements. This made a complete revision of security arrangements imperative. The company opted for the Raptor Firewall from Axent (now Symantec) in conjunction with the Primepower Unix server. This came together with the overall solution concept of the project partners, and was rounded off by systems installation services from Siemens IT Service (SBS). 1.5 Employees The FSC competence center security team, consisting of 15 employees together with specialized consultants from partner companies, forms a high-powered security force that covers the entire security process. A specific security concept can be created for any company, based on a combination of modular service packages and individual customizations. An international on-site presence supports global players in complex projects.

1.7 Partnerships The Global Alliance Partner Program forms the basis for partnerships. The program currently includes over 2,600 Unix applications (more than 800 partners) and over 3,300 NT applications (more than 1,000 partners). Hier Abbildung (englisch) einfgen. Area Partners Software/hardware Argus, Checkpoint, F-Secure, Stonesoft, Symantec Services Siemens Business services, ICL and other service providers Figure 7: FSC partners in the field of security (excerpt) Source: Fujitsu Siemens
Use of these partner solutions is based on the tried-and tested, high-availability FSC server platforms. The portfolio of solutions includes redundant, high-scalability firewalls as well as enterprise-wide solutions for biometric authentication. All security solutions are tested and certified by internal security laboratories, thus ensuring that the customer is provided with mature and integrated solutions for all security issues.
1.8 Goals The issue of security is set to become even more important at Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the future. With the establishment of additional expert competence, the company will expand further in this field, supplying hardware, software and services for security solutions not only in Germany, but throughout Europe. In this context, FSC is planning to develop turnkey end-to-end solutions together with leading providers. These will be appliances and bundles consisting of hardware, software and services.
