DMI stands for Desktop Management Interface and is the standard interface for desktop management. WMI stands for Windows Management Instrumentation and is the new standard interface for Microsoft operating systems. WBEM stands for Web Based Enterprise Management and is a set of management and Internet standard technologies developed to unify management of enterprise computing environments. SNMP stands for Simple Network Management Protocol and is the standard interface for network management. ASF stands for Alert Standard Format and features a new standard for receiving alerts deriving from a computer, introduced with Intel 865G chipset. It is an open standard, defined by the DMTF (Desktop Management Task Force). It allows defining further alerts and security features in the future WfM stands for Wired for Management and is a standard for optimum client management. Fujitsu Siemens Computers SCENIC Professional PC were the first systems worldwide to be conform to this standard. DeskView Functions in detail DeskInfo DeskInfo allows the user and the administrator to get system-related information via DMI / WMI protocol. The results can be seen on the monitor or directed to a printer. Available information includes: General system information Type and system ID, graphics controller, system identification number, user specific numbering scheme, UUID, Asset-Tag System configuration; Connected DDC-monitor (for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation: only supported by Matrox and ATI graphics cards) Enhanced identification of inventory data of power supply unit Technical information Type of hard disk drive, type and amount of system memory, memory bank occupied Serial ATA HDD are detected with serial number and master/slave mode Processor, chipset and mainboard layout Local and network drives Logical partitions, USB information Other peripherals Software Information Installed operating system is displayed Installed application software is displayed Detailed network information (WMI only) Service and retailer information User-defined data such as lease expiration Choice between user mode and advanced mode Status of the client with traffic signals and alarm list Integration into enterprise management systems like Fujitsu Siemens Computers ServerView, CA Unicenter, Microsoft SMS, HP Open View (for projects), IBM Tivoli (for projects) DeskInfo displays information about Fujitsu Siemens Computers clients local on standalone systems or of remote clients in a network. The selection of a single client or a whole group of clients is done by a user-friendly, graphical browser interface. This allows the administrator to check and manage the data and status of all Fujitsu Siemens Computers clients in the network. DeskInfo can display the information for the maintenance engineer. A printout can be generated. This greatly increases the serviceability of Fujitsu Siemens Computers clients. In the case of network installation, access is protected by a password. Data and alarms can be integrated. DeskFlash DeskFlash supports BIOS updates directly without having to bother with floppy disks. The new BIOS versions can also be distributed in the network without any user intervention. DeskFlash also enables BIOS and CMOS values to be stored and to update all systems' CMOS values with an identical configuration also without flashing the complete BIOS This supports an easy rollout of clients in a network. The remote functionality of DeskFlash can be executed from the DeskView Browser. A userfriendly graphical user interface supports easy system identification and central administration of system BIOS archive and update. With a mouse click DeskFlash identifies the target systems in the network and generates a list of these computers. The administrator then can flash or archive the BIOS and the P6 patches, and control the progress of the selected action. As a result DeskFlash remote confirms the performed action in the systems status list. The administrator also is able to force a reboot after a BIOS update. The remote functionality of DeskFlash is also available via command line and can easily be integrated in existing batch programs. DeskSettings DeskSettings allows seeing the BIOS and getting the BIOS parameters with a user-friendly simple graphical user interface Directly from Windows Via the network from an authorized point This provides flexibility in modifying the settings: Definition of the boot sequence (drives, remote boot options) Modification of power up / power down events Setting of power management parameters Enabling / disabling of USB host controller Cyclical changing of setup / system passwords Support the installation of pre boot access protection with SmartCard SystemLock. Switch remotely Hyper-Threading

DeskAlert Fujitsu Siemens Computers PC constantly monitor the hardware. Changes in condition, such as aging of the hard disk drive and fans, are reported. Events such as the opening of the cabinet, too high temperature or a restart by the watchdog timer are also reported. Changes of IDE and SCSI devices, processor and physical memory as well as insufficient hard disk drive and system drive capacity are also reported. The administrator can easily configure the behaviour of all events. The alert appears as a local or remote popup window, entries in log files or SNMP traps. In case of an alert the client can send an E-Mail to the administrator. Almost all of the IDE and SCSI hard disk drives selected by Fujitsu Siemens Computers support the Self-Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) standard for checking the hard disk drives. DeskAlert displays the status of the hard disk drive and issues a warning if specific limit values are violated. This allows the hard disk drive to be changed before it actually fails. The triggered alarm reports can be displayed directly in Fujitsu Siemens Computers ServerView, CA Unicenter, Microsoft SMS or HP Open View. DeskAlertConfig allows the administrator to issue status changes according to the type of message, i.e. either on the client, the administrator system or both. The ASF 2.0 Client is now part of DeskView The new ASF standard for receiving alerts from a system is now already integrated in DeskView. A separate installation of the ASF 2.0 client software is not necessary. The Alert-on-LAN/ASF module adds the following alerts: Opening of the cabinet A check is made to determine whether the cabinet is being opened. If Alert-on-LAN is integrated, this check is also made when the client is switched off. Processor A check is made to determine whether the processor is present and functioning properly. In case of a processor change DeskAlert notifies you instantly. Heartbeat The client continues to send signals all the time it is connected to the network. If it is disconnected from power supply network or LAN, an alert is sent to the administrator. Boot watchdog The boot sequence is monitored. If the client can no longer start up, a message is immediately sent to the administrator with details of the POST code, which allows the problem to be pinpointed. Overview of DeskView alerts Alerts supported by default Free hard disk drive space (system) Free hard disk drive space (data) Lease expiration Memory changes Device changes Hard disk drives (SMART) Processor change Cover sensor Fan monitoring Fan deterioration Short circuit Temperature (Processor if supported, inside) Voltage (5V, 12 V, CMOS battery) Alert-on-LAN/ASF -Cabinet opening - Heartbeat - Processor missing - Watchdog Alerts supported with System Monitoring chip Alerts supported with System Monitoring chip and LAN on board

DeskWoL Admin Fujitsu Siemens Computers client systems with LAN on board or equivalent LAN controller (see operating instructions of your system) can be powered up via the LAN. This function uses the standard Magic Packet technology, an AMD trademark. The administrator detects the respective clients in the network and boots the selected clients with one mouse click. A prerequisite for Wake-on-LAN is a LAN controller or LAN on board that supports the Magic Packet technology. The DeskView component Wake on LAN is integrated in the DeskView Browser and can be launched from the Call integrations menu. DeskOff The client system can be switched to different power modes, logged off or switched off by a mouse click, at a predefined time or after a defined time. DeskOff Admin allows shutting down clients in the network remotely via the DeskView Browser. DeskView Browser The browser displays the clients in the network and allows organizing clients in the network in groups, as well as specific clients in the network to be selected. DeskInfo, DeskAlert, DeskSettings, DeskFlash and DeskOff Admin as well as DeskWoL Admin can then be executed directly for these individual clients or groups. If the thin client manageability software SCOUT is installed on the administrator PC it can be executed from the DeskView Browser. Network integration DeskView can be integrated into Fujitsu Siemens Computers ServerView and fits seamlessly into the existing network. DeskView enhances enterprise system management under Microsoft SMS by providing very detailed information on Fujitsu Siemens Computers clients. Beside the MIF Integration, DeskView supports additionally MOF based integration resulting in improved handling of inventory. The integration capability of DeskView applies also to SNMP-based management software, such as CA Unicenter, HP Open View and IBM Tivoli. All data and alarms can be forwarded to these systems and displayed. If there is no Enterprise Management software already used at the customer site, administrators can use the DeskView browser, which is included in the package. Availability DeskView 5.37 supports English and German language and is shipped with the DUCD (Drivers & Utilities CD) for SCENIC Professional PC and the Manageability CD 12 for LIFEBOOK Notebooks. New program releases of DeskView 5.37 can also be downloaded from www.fujitsu-siemens.com/manageability
