Intoduction.
Comanche Gold. An old good game, that still has many funs and supporters. As the name reveals Wc3.exe (Windows-comanche-3), the code of Comanche 3 (DOS/W95) was just refreshed to be DirectX 5 compatible for Windows 95/98, (DOS just left behind) and the result was : Comanche Gold. One of the first "Windows only" game. One of the best simulators then and is still today. The multiplayer enviroment, was an everyday meeting point and attracted players from all over the world. And there was one of the best multiplayer community, with such activity and binds between members that organized the first COMANCHE FEST 2001 in Arizona desert. Unfortunatelly, this community disbanded because of the sudden Novalogic's decision to close the one and only online server where you could play this game, without explanation. The Lobby html still exists, but to use it you have to make a success update for the game. Unfortunatelly the wizsetup.exe updater cant find the sources so the update is failing. As you can see, Novalogic redirects the problem to your ISP instead of fix a single html page.

The alternative was the Kali network. Only there you can multi-play the game even today. Keep in mind : It is an old game and you have to talk and behave with it "slowly". Such games, is something that you want to play by nostalgia, even with an emulator even with the worst conditions - incobatibilities, but you insist, you overcome all those barriers. If this happens to you for Comanche Gold my advise is : you have to comply with it. Ping (latency) between online players, is the common enemy. And all depends on this especially when you are in another continent from others and they fairly avoid you. There are scatter old funs of this game like you out there and from time to time they seek pilots to join with, re-organize a club as old good days, or just a small lobby for the game. So, if you meet anyone just keep in contact with him. Who knows? Someday maybe an"Open Source Comanche Gold" may appear out there if there are so many of us with our signatures in hand. Not nostalgia, just a hope, an idea.

Suggestions.
As for my PCs, personally, i have conclude in some routine procedures that helped me years now to avoid serius problems almost of any kind. Especially while i am online i take some precussions in conjuction with a non-heavy-loaded system that helps its overall performance to be stable, safe and in full function. The goal of my recomendations is that everyone with a modern powerfull system of today to be able to play the old Comanche Gold game online instead of getting tired by the annoying random lag that occurs frame by frame movement. This makes the game not playable with no fun at all. All these are optionals. Everyone have his own sence, logic and function.
Startup Programs, Clearance.
I recommend the use of a program that gives you control on Windows automatic startup programs. I use Advanced Uninstaller Pro 10 and as you see bellow i can ENABLE and DISABLE many tasks that installations set to auto-load each time windows starts but without asking your permission for this. Most of them are updaters, helpers and info for software or hardware. Its up to you, first to learn what they do and then to choose which of them must be disable because is lowering your systems resources and occupy bandwidth for its own good and not yours. Even without the need for online Comanche Gold Multiplayer, your system will be much more effective without any individual non permited by you pop-ups and hidden activities.

Chat, Voice, Camera type applications.
To play the game in past, we had to meet in windows messenger chat, then we had to make arrangements, then we had to join Novalogics Lobby, someone hosted etc etc. Long time procedure that may be more easy if you have voice communications. Choose a program that is not disturbing the game in parallel usage, because many do. These programs and hardware are affecting many areas of your system at once. By using your bandwidth they leech the most of your systems performance and resources because they try to deliver to you sound, video and data fast. Most of them have multiply abilities ALL-IN-ONE (Chat, Voice, Video), BUT this will make the game not playable. Kali was the other option for chat-gaming and beyond Comanche Gold. It still works and supports old and IPX games. Except voice communication, it offers chat servers, custom Lobbies, custom server games, standard servers and clan game servers, all in one. For players from USA it is ok. For players from Europe the ping is 140-250+. Roger Wilco was the one and only voice communication tool that worked smooth with Comanche Gold, mysteriusly without any problems. It is a very light tool with all the necessary settings and abilities but it lucks of chat. Today, TS is the most famous voice communication program with chat abilities. You can set it up and test it.
LAN, Local.
There you share your overall bandwidth with other local systems. Each one because of other users tasks, of its own different OS, of Its configuration affects your need for a stable and non interrupted Comanche Gold Data flow.
Router, your.
Many people dont give the proper care in this peripheral that has more abilities than leds and some cable inputs. Make sure you have set a good owners password. Make sure you have enable the password check option when you login and you want to change settings, passwords etc. Search to find and disable any kind of auto transmissions (reports, logs) towards the manufacturers site. Check the home sites of your games and programs that you use or you want to use and search which ports they need to forward in your router. Forwarding those ports in your routers menu. When you need to run the software that need to use these ports, then ENABLE them and when you finish DISABLE them again. I recommend to enable them only when you need them. Its not wise to leave your system wide open with a bunch of ports while you are not gaming. While you are online, goto Start choose Run type CMD and in the DOS window that will open type ipconfig and press enter. Write down your MAC address and in your router DHCP set your IP and the MAC address in there.
Firewall, Yours & Windows.
If you have a good firewall (ESET Smart Security 4 here) disable the Windows firewall. But you are not get rid of it so easy. If you cant understand why the program that you have just set a permission rule for it in your firewall cannot access servers and services, dont spend your time and dont get crazy. Just pay a visit into Windows firewall tabs and uncheck everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. Even if a checkbox in its tabs is checked, it assumes its self active and it creates rules that will block seamlessly any of your games and programs.
Windows Log-In, UserName & Password.
Except Administrators name and password there is the user. User is you. So never leave your windows to start without a USER NAME + PASSWORD and the systems LOG-IN check. If you havent set these already, Open Control Panel, run Users and create a user, choose and set a complicated password. Set the log-in type.
Tools.
I suggest to use this only if you are playing with players that their ping exceed the va lue of 175. (ADHS as host GMT+2 with MobDog GMT-5, 202-205 ping through Kali, the game was playable). You can use Turbo to lower your CPU. By this you can be much more closer to 1988's CPUs speeds and bandwidth that game was build for. Between you, the flow becomes at lower rate but this stabilize the connection. As HOST i found working values 70-80. Lower than 50 game is unplayable. When CLIENT set to 60% the working value for me was 75%. So mathematically and as i saw in praxis, i suggest for HOST to use +15% over CLIENT's % value.
Allocator
A 512000 limit to get closer to game's requirements was set, but i didnt noticed any visual difference. In theory this should help the game as for the memory's managent somehow. Use it just for this only.
Roger Wilco.
Forward 3782 port for TCP and UDP. Try the.WAV transission methodos besides DirectSound Recording. The problem with the external and internal ip address was tracked by motko.
JOIN a channel :
When you get the IP:Port/Name info from the HOST, highlight it, press right mouse to copy. Open Roger Wilco and press the JOIN button. If not allready, highlight the "Address and Channel of the Host" and choose paste. Also if a PASSWORD exists, type it in the "Password" input field and then press JOIN. Finish.
HOST a channel :
Open Roger Wilco and press CREATE. There you have to set a NAME and a PASSWORD. Press HOST to create your private voice server. There your name will appear on the list. Now, look right of the "Hosting on :" field. If your IP looks like this : 192.168.254.x this is your INTERNAL IP and is not the propper that your friends need to join your server. You have to 1st) find your EXTERNAL IP and 2nd) to do some copy/paste job with it.
Find your External IP :
Goto to your routers LOGIN tab and there maybe you could see your true external IP. Mine is shows close to the dissconect button. Your's maybe in a different menu.
If you cannot find it in your routers menus go to WhichIsMyIP to get it automatically. When you finally have your EXTERNAL IP, highlight and copy it. (Keep this copy buffer) No matter which of bellow methodos you prefer to use, the point is NOT to make a mistake.
Methodos A : Copy/Paste in Roger Wilco
Go to Roger Wilco "Hosting on :" field. In the IP field, carefully place your cursor in front of the " :" character which is in front of your port number.
Click and drag to the left so to highlight your INTERNAL IP. While is highlited, right click and paste your EXTERNAL IP that you have copy from your router's menu or the external link. Highlight, copy the whole field and send it to your friends. Finish.
Methodos B : Copy/Paste in Notepad.
Open the Notepad and paste your EXTERNAL IP in there. Now go to Roger Wilco "Hosting on :" field. Highlight and copy the whole field and then paste it in a new line in Notepad.
Copy paste the EXTERNAL over the INTERNAL IP. When done highlight and copy the whole new corrected line. When all this done re-highlight the whole corrected field and right click to copy. Now you can paste it wherever your friends can see it and dont forget to send the PASSWORD also. Finish.
Assume that you have Comanche Gold allready installed. Before forwarding 2213 port for TCP and 6666 for UDP go and check the functionllity of kali.tracker. If no games or no info or no ping appears that means that has change so you may need to forward other different ports. Let Kali runs and wait for your firewall to ask you permissions for requirement ports. Or go to Windows Firewall and check in exceptions so to issolate only the those for Kali
Setup Kali.
Run Kali and set/give your password.
The most important settings are here : Choose File / SETTINGS menu.
In the ADVANCED tab, in the blank LOCAL IP# input, set your IP. In the GAMES tab, enable MINIMIZE WHILE RUNNING A GAME. In the GAME BROWSER tab, enable on EXIT AND RESTART KALI WHEN PLAYING GAME.
Setup Comanche Gold in Kali.
Go to GAME RESOURCES. Double click or right click My GAMES and choose ADD NEW GAME. From the pop-up list go down till you see COMANCHE select it and press OK.
In GAME SETTINGS window that will appear, click BROWSE. Locate, select the WC3.exe in your installation directory and press OK.
With those two options i had the MOST SMOOTH AND PLAYABLE GAMING (ping 170). In GAME DEFAULTS tab, increase (drag the slider) EXTRA PACKETS to 1. This helps a lot!
By this, you can avoid the usage of Turbo and Allocator as happened with me and Flyboy. I suggest all of you to have this value (or if you set another) in common even if you Host or Join the game. It doubles the data packets sends between all players so if a packet lost the backup one of the same packet will arrive at its destination. This means less lag.
If you use the above EXTRA PACKETS option, then, you have to enable another option, so this to work. In GAME INFORMATION tab, enable DROP PACKETS OUT OF ORDER.
After you click OK an icon of the game will be appear in the MY GAMES folder. This is visible and in the lower area of the window when you JOIN chat servers.
Run Comanche Gold from chat servers.
Whenever you connect to any chat server the game icon will appear bellow the chat input field. Right click on it you can CONFIGURE the game (players, password etc) and run it by RUN ON SERVER.
Run Comanche Gold from a private Lobby.
Right click on Kali's GAME LOBBIES and select CREATE A LOBBY.
CONFIGURE the game (max players, password, comment) and press OK. Your window lobby will appear. Also after a few seconds your lobby in the Game Lobbies section. Because of many reasons and advantages, preffer to run the game from Kali's GAME LOBBIES. Before HOST or JOIN a multiplayer Comanche Gold game from LOBBY in Kali, make sure that you have disconnected from any other server.
Virtual Box with Windows 7
With all testers that use Virtual Box all tests were much more than well. Even with 205 ping with tester from Florida and me from Hellas we had a playable game in the one of the most heaviest (lot of objects and cannyon terrain type) map of Comanche Gold. I am not using Windows 7 for multiplayer so if you interesting about this go to Flyboy's for info tutorials and much more in details.

Specifications : Ability to connect each players IPX local LAN via IP for Host and Join purpoces. Simple Text Chat, Stable 56 or 128 Kbytes Maximum Transfer Data Rate.
Analysis of STARTUP PROCEDURE.
Its not my idea, i have add in to the basic core of it. This was the common procedure of our old community at 1998. After i joined them they told me about it. Skip this if the higher pinger of you is at 120.
Comanche Gold is very sensitive (bugs still exists in it's code, data flow management isn't so accurate) while in connection with other instances of it's self, even in your local LAN even in direct serial mode with cable attached between two computers of today. This getting worst while you are online for multiplay with others. This in conjuction with the geographical distance, the different type of local networks, the individual systems setups between players, boost's the allready existant problem the random latency effect known as "lag" technically, else, an annoying frameby-frame unplayable for flight simulators movement in visuall while the sound follows exactly at the same rythm.
You can't avoid it, but while you have decite to play this game online, you can minimize it.
By stopping any other internet - LAN programs and background tasks activity.
You can play this while downloading or recording or even if a chat messenger type program is active or just running in your system's background, but you will be he that lag-ruin the game.
By JOIN game 10-20" after server started. Let the HOST to stabilize first and then click JOIN.
The game makes adjustments and tries to equalize all connections by a strange nova-logic : It is cuttiing down all of the powerfull connections and limits them to the most weakest one. As game's requirements for internet was 56K 128K modems and had problems with them, imagine what now with much more faster internet - hardware connections than 1998's.
By all players using the same resolution.
Game released with 800x600 as it's maximum resolution. For sure they knew more than us. So if you want to be sure, at first attempts, dont use the WC3.MNU (1024x768) modded file. A higher resolution than the game released with, affects only multiplayer and not single mode. If no problem appears and all goes smooth then insert the modded file in CGold's directory. Why i shall do that : In my testings i noticed that the most unstable and laggy games was with players that had set 1024x768 resolution. This difference in resolution between players causes instabillity and most lag that it may becomes a little better after 5-10 minutes but will be fix only after 2-3 minutes if you switch to 800x600! And thats why because game beyond the 800x600 limit was released with the least requirement of 8Bit, suggested 16Bit Desktop Color Mode. You may see no problem in your 1024x768 resolution with 32Bit display settings but what about the hudge 32Bit buffers that CGold's Voxel System data flow management cannot understand and manage directly and they overload the allready problematic small stream ? This is where the sound starts to follow your crappy screen's step-by-step lag movement. If you want to see this happens try not as CLIENT, but as HOST.
By not changing resolutions or switching to and from dekstop while game in progress.
This is the most important and basic to minimize the lag effect, but the most important by this is that while you helping HOST to play also you help the progress of the overall performance. Host receives lag even if someone change resolution or switching to desktop. How do you know that : Try this : Tell your friend to change resolution or while switching to desktop to click another window and then to come back in game. A red color WAITING FOR [player name] message will then appear to all players lower bottom of the screen instantlly and the game will freeze for milliseconds or maybe seconds. For those that still doubt this : YES, THAT SENSITIVE! Not just you but ALL PLAYERS in the same game have to play with same settings, with thesame rules and do or not do the same. Respect the others while you are not alone in this.
By just let the game runs once it started, avoid any kind of interruption by you, by all there.
So if you want to having fun wth this online without problems you have to be more patient than todays fast games usage and by keeping allways the startup-procedure step-by-step.
Step-by-step STARTUP PROCEDURE.
Meet other pilots.
Forums, will be a good idea to meet other new -old pilots or funs of the game. Then a redirection for a meeting in a chat room could be the most usefull. In there you can chat and from there you can arrange/setup game sections.
Allways prefer as GAME HOST the most accurate connection and system.
Prefer, one HOST for the game and another HOST for voice communications.
Allways prefer as VOICE HOST the next more accurate connection and system.
Start a Roger Wilco Server.
After all connect in there you can leave the chat room. No in -game typing anymore.
Shutdown any un-authorize internet activity (see Suggestions).
Set the same game resolution in common.
Set the same PACKET settings in common.
Host a Comanche Gold Server.Wait 10 seconds and then inform friends to proceed.
Join a Comanche Gold Server. Wait 10-20 seconds or HOST to say and then proceed.
While in game do not interrupt it by any way. Respect the common performance.
If for some reason game leads you to the multiplayer menu and you dont have VOICE communication with the others, dont quit at once. Try to re-JOIN or re-HOST the game.

WHAT'S NEXT
Because there were no more testers to finish this guide, with all i had in mind, an addition, as an update, will be release as soon as i will be able to test (by my own this time) and i will get results from two standalone IPX tools. If i succeed in this, then you will no longer need to connect in servers to play this, or any other similar old IPX game. Why not just use Hamachi or Kali ? Simple. Novaworld, Kahn closed. So, its not wise for you to hook on similar "free services". If those two tools work, you will become independent. Whenever you want, as long as there are nostalgian funs like you with common IPX games, you will HOST-JOIN your games. By direct connection between you and your friends you will have much lower ping (latency). You will be able to play with your neighbour without the high ping through "free" servers. An example : Even if i did buy and own Kali, even if have a PC for 3D productions, even if i have 12Mbit ADSL with 100 upload, from Hellas i have to connect in oversea servers (240 ping) just to play with Flyboy from England at 140 ping. All this pointless long data travel route from Europe to USA and then back to England and Hellas between us occurs so high latency while playing. This is unavoidable and the same may happen to others too. That was what i couldnt finished : a solve by an IPX tool direct between players. And that will be the update for. Its a prommiss.

How can I make my joystick work in AirFix Dogfighter on Windows 2000? Paradox Entertainment, the game developer, has released a patch to support joysticks on Windows 2000.

Why does my ship always roll when I use my WingMan Interceptor? The default assignment of POV2 in the game is "roll". We recommend deleting the POV2 setting and using the "SHIFT+LEFT" and "SHIFT+RIGHT" keyboard commands to roll instead.
Colin McRae Rally 2.0
Why are the forces so strong on my WingMan Formula Force when I play Colin McRae Rally 2.0 on Windows 2000? The reason for this behavior is that Colin McRae Rally 2.0 uses a feature that is not supported by the WingMan Formula Force device. In Windows 98, we are able to mimic this feature and handle it in the device driver. However, in the much more restrictive Windows 2000 environment, this is not possible. We have sent a mail to the game developer with full details of the problem and a proposed workaround. The WingMan Formula Force GP is fully compatible with the game and does not have this issue. When using a standard Windows Joystick (e.g. 3 axis 4 button joystick such as WingMan Attack, or WingMan Formula GP), none of the options to change analog/digital settings are available within the game. When using the joystick, the steering will be digital - i.e. hard left or hard right only. If you would like to change this behavior, the game developer recommends setting up your joystick as a flight yoke - e.g. 2 axis 4 button flight yoke. This should enable you to play with analog settings. For best performance, you should set the acceleration and braking to analog also. When I run the game I get an error in the HID.DLL file. How do I fix this? You need to extract the HID.DLL file from the Windows 98 cabs. To copy this file in to the "C:\Windows\System\" directory and overwrite the existing HID.DLL, please follow the instructions below. Place the Windows 98 CD in the CD ROM drive. Click "Start", then "Run". in the "Open" command line, type SFC and click "OK". Click on "Extract one file" and enter HID.DLL. Now click on the "Start" button. When I enter the game screen in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, my character is spinning around in circles. What's going on? This can be caused by 2 different issues. WingMan Profiler Mouse Emulation is enabled Simply rotate the mini joystick that has the mouse axis assigned to it. Unfortunately, this will need to be done on every time a new screen is loaded. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is using the throttle control for "Turn Left"/"Turn Right". Unfortunately, it seems that the developer for Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind has designed the game to use the throttle control as a "rudder" axis. In order to correct this, the throttle slider will need to be in the center for the character to stop rotating. NOTE: Whenever you make a change in the Profiler OR start a game, slowly rotate the right mini joystick (or whichever one you wish to have the turn on) around all four corners. This allows the DirectX driver to adjust to the minimum/maximum ranges reported by the controller. On the WingMan Team game profile page for Mouse/Keyboard based games, there is a premade profile for this game that already has the device set tup. Why does the throttle in Enemy Engaged cause a hover-hold problem? We found a game note in the readme file which refers to hover-hold. Our understanding from the document is that hover-hold adjusts the collective to zero the vertical velocity, in order to make control easier for those using a keyboard. If you are using a throttle control on a game controller, you have to adjust the collective manually. This appears to be the way the game was designed to function. Using the keyboard throttle for collective instead of joystick cures the problem. Throttle dead zone and sensitivity settings make no difference.

There is a utility called POSWDM from Microsoft that should help you confirm the correct operation of the POVs.

This game uses a non-standard game launch mechanism and it might be hard for most users to determine the filename for the profile. You may have to launch the game from the Start Menu, desktop shortcut or the CD. One this to try is creating the profile to point to the LOADER.EXE file in the BIN\RELEASE directory. Also, WingMan Software versions after 4.10 contain a feature for "persistent" profiles that allows you to manually activate profiles. This should allow a more general work around solution for users when you encounter this type of game. Independence War 2 also has an INI file that users can edit in Notepad to create assignments for buttons. Why cant I get Force Feedback Effects on my WingMan Force under Windows 98? WingMan Force is an older force feedback device that can only support 8-9 forces at a time. Independence War 2 tries to download 22 effects to the controller, which exceeds the limitation of the controller. Newer devices such as WingMan Force 3D, WingMan Strike Force 3D, and RumblePad should not have this problem.

This game does not do a very good job of assigning reasonable game functions to devices that have more than the basic "three axis and 4 button" type of controls. As a result it is a good idea to review the game's documentation for setup instructions to see how the controls are assigned to your device. The in-game configuration capability is very good, so it should be fairly easy to change the configuration if you wish. The help documentation on game configuration is also good and should answer most questions. The game supports basic aerodynamic flight force feedback effects, and these effects also work on "rumble" type devices. If you change the control assignments from within the game, please be sure to duplicate the changes in the WingMan Profiler, otherwise your control assignments may not work properly.
Why are my controls not correctly assigned to the device? See the menu item "Options->Custom Controls". Ensure the Logitech device is the selected control device. Why are my axis assignments incorrect? The default configuration of NASCAR 3 is a little strange (buttons are assigned to accelerate/brake, joystick selected by default, etc.). To assign the axis as you want it, follow the steps below. 1. Ensure the wheel is confiured to report pedals as combined in the game controllers "Settings" page. 2. In NASCAR 3 go to the Options" dialog. Move wheel and pedals to limits to calibrate X and Y axis. 3. In the "Options" dialog, select the "accelerate" control -- move the accelerator pedal to make the assignment. 4. In the "Options" dialog, select the "breaking" control -- move the brake pedal to make the assignment.
NASCAR 4
No matter what track I'm on, or what basic setup I use, my car pulls left. I have to turn right to keep the car straight. I've tried several variations of calibration, including manual adjustments in the NASCAR 4 options panel, but nothing seems to help much. What am I doing wrong? You are doing absolutely nothing wrong. According to the force feedback design in the game, it is supposed to pull left. Your car is designed to take corners at higher speeds. The tracks, even on the straight sections, are banked (tilted) slightly. So combine the banking of the track with a car setup that is designed to drift to the left, and your car will pull left. If I calibrate the wheel in NASCAR 4, the RPMs will only reach 7000 and the engine sputters. Why? If you are at a Speedway (Daytona, Talladega, etc) and are running in "Simulation Mode", then the rev limiter will stop the RPMs at 7000. Remember they run restrictor plates at the Super Speedways. You should be able to hit 9000 at all of the other tracks. When I steer the wheel to the left the car turns right, and when I steer to the right the car turns left. It is the exact opposite to what it should be. What's wrong? When you go to the Controller Options in NASCAR 4, select the steering option to reassign it. When it asks you to move the controller, make sure to move the wheel as indicated. If you move the wheel in the wrong direction during this stage, the game will designate the wheel for turning, but have the directions reversed. Enabling Force Feedback Please follow the steps below to enable Force Feedback in NASCAR 4. 1. The first step is to make sure that the wheel was working correctly in the "Gaming Options" panel and had forces when pressing the buttons. 2. In NASCAR 4, bring up the "Control Options" and selected the "DirectInput Driver". 3. Under "Assignments", click on "Steering". 4. Moved the wheel to left as indicated. 5. Assign "Throttle" to the gas pedal. 6. Assign "Brake" to the brake pedal. Once this is done, the Force Feedback selection should become available. We suggest a damper setting of about 50% for this game.
The controller should now work in combined mode. Using Separate Pedals To use combined pedals, do the following. 1. Uncheck "Combined" pedals mode in the control panel. The controller is now in separate pedals mode. 2. In Rally Trophy, click Options, then "Controls" and "Configure Controller". 3. Configure as follows: a. Return to Castle Wolfenstein
The following information is the official response from Activision about joystick/gamepad support in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This game does not provide direct support for joysticks, meaning there is no way to enable a joystick in the shell of the game. However, as the game uses the Quake III: Team Arena engine, the legacy commands for joystick support are still present in the console and for the most part are still functional. We did not test these console commands though, and cannot make any claim that the joystick functions work accurately.

Soul Reaver
The game appears to be set for gamepad support by default. This can be turned off within the game options. The options also allow the mapping of up to 10 functions to the gamepad buttons. In Windows 98/ME, the controls work adequately when using the D-Pad. When using the analog stick, controls are overly sensitive. The slightest movement will be detected and cause the character to move. This also means that if the analog stick is slightly off center, even when the stick is resting, the character continues to move. The game does not appear to work in Windows 2000/XP. The character in the game continues to run in circles, sometimes changing direction when the analog stick or D-Pad is pressed. Even without a controller connected, the character on the screen continues to run in circles for no reason. What types of devices are supported by Soul Reaver (i.e. joysticks, gamepads, and steering wheels)? This game was designed to use a Gamepad type game controller. Does the game support force feedback or rumble effects? Unfortunately, Soul Reaver does not support force feedback, nor Rumble type effects.
Start with this setting. The configuration screen also allows you to assign buttons to various game functions. For a joystick it would make sense to re-assign the trigger as the primary weapon button. There are also options to invert axes that you might like to experiment with at a later stage. These instructions could also be used for other joysticks.
Star Wars: Starfighter
The game works very well with a Dual Stick Gamepad or Flight stick. The control is very crisp and responsive when tested with the WingMan RumblePad and the WingMan Force 3D controllers. Controller settings are available from the launch menu. Before clicking to "Start Game", you can go to the Options area and customize nearly all controller functions to game commands. These 'profiles' for the controls can be loaded and saved, and there are a number of pre-made configurations that are installed with the game. What types of game controllers are supported Star Wars: Starfighter? It supports Gamepad & Joystick type devices.
Does the game support force feedback or rumble effects? This game does not have forces. The game may default the Roll function of the ship to the Z axis, which is the throttle on most controllers. This can cause the ship to constantly spin while in game. It's recommended prior to playing to go to the options and customizes the control. WingMan RumblePad: You may want to set Roll for the right stick left/right. WingMan Force 3D: You may want to set Roll to the twist axes of the device. The game appears to default to keyboard control and has no noticeable controller configuration options in the main menu areas. In order to use a game controller, the user must start a game. Once the game begins, pressing the ESC key pauses the game and brings up an in-game option menu. Within the in-game options is a Select Controller option, which can be used to select any detected game controllers. Once the game controller is set, it appears to work without issues. The basic functions are preset and there are no options to modify or change the functionality of the game controller. The stick/pad moves the player and makes selections. Buttons perform action functions such as pitching, throwing, batting, bunting, picking off runners, etc. No specific control problems noted. What kinds of game controllers are supported by Triple Play 2001? Gamepad Does Triple Play 2001 support force feedback or rumble effects? No.

It is possible to get reasonable performance using the gamepad for character movement, but use the mouse for aiming. Why is my force feedback joystick unstable when Im flying on auto-pilot? Pressing the "x" key enables the auto-pilot mode and you would expect flight to be somewhat stable in this mode. However, trim forces in the game are generated using a Y axis spring with 0 dead-band (i.e. you feel resistance moving forward/back, but none on left/right movement). 0 dead-band means the spring is very sensitive. As a result, the joystick has a tendency to easily move left/right whenever the joystick moves outside the center position. When you remove your hand from the stick (so that you hand no longer restricts the movement of the stick) this can result in an oscillation in the joystick handle for the WingMan Force 3D.
The behavior on the WingMan Strike Force 3D will be different as the product has a "deadman" switch (i.e. forces are not played on the stick when you remove your hand). The game does not appear to program any centering spring force. In the custom control panel there is an option that allows you to superimpose a centering spring in force feedback games. If you do select this option, the other force feedback effects may be muted, so you might want to boost these force levels beyond the default setting of 50%.
World War II Fighters
Why dont I feel force feedback in the game? This game did not originally ship with force feedback effect capability. The most recent patch, 1.08F includes support for Force Feedback. If you have the "Classic" version of the game, there is a 1.08F patch included on the CD, but this patch is faulty and does not work correctly. If you would rather have the Profiler apply profiles to games automatically, understand that Worms 2 requires the CD to be in the drive before you can play. By default, the shortcut to the game in the Start Menu and/or on your desktop probably points to the autoplay file on the CD. Starting the game via this method or simply by having the auto insert notification enabled for your CD-ROM drive results in the execution of the autoplay file located on the CD. From the autoplay screen, you can choose to view game information, install the game or play the game. If you've already installed the game, choosing to play the game actually results in the execution of another file, located on your hard drive, called FRONTEND.EXE. This screen is essentially the main menu. Once you actually start playing, the WORMS2.EXE file is what is active during full screen game play and this file is what you want to create a game profile for. The default directory is C:\MicroProse\Worms2\Worms2.exe. If, for whatever reason, this file is called something else for your distribution, the correct one, when executed, should immediately start a quick two player or one player vs computer game. If you want to be able to use your controller for the entire game instead of having to go to the mouse for some screens, then you must also make separate profiles for both the FRONTEND.EXE (located in the same directory as WORMS2.EXE) and the autoplay file on the CD probably located at [CD-ROM DRIVE LETTER]:\AUTORUN\W2.EXE. (If the controller doesn't respond for this file try [CD-ROM DRIVE LETTER]:\SETUP.EXE.) For those two profiles, realize that you require virtually only the mouse functions since it's just pointing and clicking, so you can save yourself some time by only mapping to your mouse axes and buttons (except when naming a newly created team, which requires the actual keyboard itself).
