2.2. Create a team
2.2.1. The different cyclist profiles available In order to start the game, you need to create your team. A list of 14 cyclists appears. Each one has different skills that you will have to develop during the entire game. Many specializations are available: Tour, Climber, TimeTrial, Sprinter, Fighter, Puncher and Northern Classics. Here are some details on the 7 profiles available in Cycling Manager Online: Skills details
1) The Puncher has a specific profile, particularly gifted for Hills, Flat land, Acceleration, Resistance and Recovery. He shines in Classic Events.
2) Without a doubt, the Northern Classics rider is the Cobblestone specialist. This cyclist is also comfortable on Flat land, Stamina and Resistance.
3) The Climber is slightly better than All-Around cyclists on Mountain stages, but largely lacks in individual efforts on Flat roads and TimeTrials.
FL: Flat MO: Mountain
Ability for the cyclist to ride and save energy on this type of land. Ability for the cyclist to climb mountain passes and other ascents, and for him to save energy. Ability for the cyclist to ride on slight slopes. Essential skill for TimeTrial races. A high score on that skill prevents punctures and falls on that type of land. This skill represents the fastest speed a cyclist can go on short efforts at the end of the races. Cyclist's ease to maintain acceleration. Ideal for prologues and mountain stages. This skill shows the cyclist's stamina for long distance races. It is represented in green on the race's interface. This skill shows the cyclist's resistance, mostly during constant efforts. It is represented in blue in the Replay interface. This skill indicates how comfortable the cyclist is going downhill This skill represents the natural recovery of a cyclist between two stages.
4) TimeTrials are important inside the peloton. They give everything they have at the end of races on flat land.
HIL: Hills TT: TimeTrial COB: Cobblestones SP: Sprints ACC: Acceleration
5) The Sprinter is the peloton's fastest rider and gives everything he has at the end of races on flat land. A good sprinter should have good skills on Sprint, Flat and Acceleration to catch up with breakaways. Stamina and Resistance will make the difference between two good sprinters. He is the best suited cyclist to win the points rankings.
6) Tour cyclists have average skills in Mountain, Hills and TimeTrial. These riders have an exceptional recovery to compete in the season's Great Tours. Stamina and Resistance are especially important for Mountain stage attacks. Tour cyclists are complete riders.
STA: Stamina RES: Resistance
7) The Fighter is the ideal teammate. Comfortable on Flat portions, they can easily catch up with the peloton or help their team's sprinter at the end of the stages. Note: if you don't like the selection of cyclists, other riders will be selected by clicking on the "refresh" button. After that, you will be able to customize your team (logo, etc.) as well as your cyclists (name, picture and nationality). Don't forget to confirm your choices by clicking on the "Confirm" button. Skills are common to all cyclists. Each one is given a score between 50 and 85.
DH: Downhill REC: Recovery
Please note that the team creation page only appears on the first launch of the game and will not be shown after that. Keep in mind that a rider can't change his specialization after that.

3.2. Improve your cyclists 3.2.1. The basics
Training helps to improve your cyclists: the better the training, the more effective the cyclist will be. However, note that the scope of a rider's progression is conditioned by several criteria explained here. Potential: When cyclists are created, they receive a certain amount of potential that conditions their future progression. Age: All cyclists have a specific age at the beginning of the game. This age determines the mature and old age as defined below. Mature age: A mature cyclist is at the peak of his physical capacity. The cyclist improves all of his skills, even with only a few training sessions. Once a rider reaches his mature age, he will become stable and will not be able to improve his skills without training. Last, when the stable period is over, the cyclist starts to decline. Old age: Once the cyclist reaches that point, he starts losing skill points. However, he will still be able to improve his skills, but only by training hard for that.
Note that there are 10 skills to improve: FL MO HIL TT COB SP ACC STA RES REC Flat Mountain Hills TimeTrial Cobblestones Sprints Acceleration Stamina Resistance Recovery
"Downhill" and "Fighter" skills are inherent to each cyclist and are stable. They won't change during their career. These skills are natural for each rider and can't be trained.
3.2.2. The training plan
You can access the training plan via this panel:
Here is an example with two cyclists at different ages: 1. Rider A, 18 years old shows a 5 years progression curve. From 22 to 26, he will ride 4 seasons at his mature age. His first physical weakness signs will appear at 26.
2. Rider B is 24 years old and shows a 7 years progression curve. He will then continue to progress until he reaches 31. After that, he will spend two seasons at his top (mature age) and will be on the decline at 33.
All those parameters are hidden at the beginning of the game. Do not think that a rider is better than another regarding their characteristics and age. The order can change. Hidden parameters have a big part in a rider's evolution. Note that you can set the % of training that you wish to allocate to each cyclist, Options are available to simplify your training plan.
Second option: Using the Training Optimization Option, you can select one of three categories: Lower Even First option: Auto 100%, this option assigns remaining training to all skills. If you assign 25% to 2 skills (here Mountain and Hills), only 50% of your training is used, as shown here: You can also reset training by clicking on the "reset" button. Favor manual and adapted settings. Your rider will be more effective and give better results!! Higher Assign a larger training percentage to the rider's weakest skills. Assign 10% to each skill. Assign a larger training percentage to the rider's strongest skills.
3.2.3. Fitness 3.2.2.1. The basics
Just like training, fitness is one of Cycling Manager Online's keys for success. Fitness is divided into 2 sections: training conditions (for 80% of the total) and race conditions (20% of the total). In order to make things simple, at the beginning of the game, race conditions go from 00% to 80%. The remaining 20% is set. Here is the caption for the graph: Red Bars represent the rider's fitness plan: he will need a training day to go from fitness peak 1 to fitness peak 2. The same to go from peak 2 to peak 3. The same rules apply in the other way. The yellow line represents theoretical fitness at a given time. The green line represents the rider's actual fitness at a given time. This information is known after the race. The blue zone represents the rider's fatigue. The more the rider trains hard, the more he stores up fatigue. The red line represents the maximum fitness the rider could reach, given his fatigue. Even if your training sessions lead him to better potential fitness (represented by the yellow line), fatigue can limit his results.
The Auto option will distribute the remaining 50% to all 10 skills, which means 5% to every characteristic. Here is the result:
Let's take the first following cyclist and experiment a little: We can now try to position him on the 3 major races: Giro, Tour de France and Vuelta. It will be tough, but Kristian has enough energy to make it through the end of the season.
Now, look at the optimal fitness plan (with the pro mode):
As you can see, Kristian (the name of the rider) is especially gifted in TimeTrial. In order to maximize his skills, try to keep him in front on these types of stages.
You can customize the fitness plan according to each rider and ask them to train harder or lighter during the season. They will then be in better shape during "slack periods".
If you select every single race on the calendar, Kristian will get very tired (shown by the blue zone) and will not be able to rest: his results will suffer from that.
3.3. The calendar
The calendar is an essential part of Cycling Manager Online: the player rides in cyclings greatest races (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a Espaa, Australia's Tour Down Under, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix ) through an entire season that lasts more than 60 days. Each icon on the calendar represents a particular type of land, as explained here: Flat Hills NOTE : the timetrial can be individual or by team one, but they are represented by the same item. TimeTrial Cobblestones Mountain
Now, let's try another race combination that lets the rider focus on 4 races during the season. Note that at the end of the season, Kristian will be very tired and at his best level.
Here is the sequence for a season: Pre-season = from day 0 to day 7: during this period, many learning races are scheduled to help you become familiar with the game. Tutorial #1 =

3.4. The equipment
To improve your riders' performances, you can buy different pieces of equipment (frame, wheels and helmet) and create a custom set for each cyclist. Equipment combinations give access to specific bonuses but keep in mind that equipment only lasts for a season. The standard equipement doesnt provide any bonuses
Special equipent lasts for 75 days (one season). Once the period over you must sign a new contract in order to use the equipment.
3.5. Which strategy to win?
Cycling Manager Online lets you choose between team and individual strategies. You will have to try each strategy to find your own. It is important to use strategy matching your rider's qualities. Even the best climber won't win if he is at 20% of his shape. Try to give realists objectives to each of your riders.
3.5.1. TimeTrial individual tactics
[ ] Maintain constant effort : [__] % The cyclist will try to maintain a constant effort during the entire stage. If the effort is set too high, the rider will slow down once he's out of energy. On the other hand, if the effort is set too low, the rider will not be able to race at his full potential and will then lose time on other cyclists. NOTE: For a rider with 85 of TT & 80 of RES, engaged on a 20/25 km long TimeTrial stage, the reference effort is 84%. Adjust this percentage according to your riders skills and the race length.
[ ] Increase effort on slopes The rider will gain time during slopes. To fully benefit from this option, the rider must possess the necessary skill, otherwise it will harm his performances. [ ] Improve aerodynamics The rider will gain time if he uses an aerodynamic position during the stage. The higher the TT skill, the more effective this option will be.
[ ] Effort splits: Zone 1 [__] % Zone 2 [__] % Zone 3 [__] % This option allows you to configure the rider's effort for different zones of the stage. This method guarantees better control of your cyclists' performances.
3.5.2.2. Offensive tactics (Team)
Characteristics details [ ] Relay during breakaways: Intensity ------|-- % Indicates if your riders must relay during breakaways and their relay intensity. On the right side, you can see the different lengths of zones represented by colored bars. NOTE: Relay's effort percentage is calculated based on team and individual strategies' intensity. If nothing is indicated, the default setting is 50%.
3.5.2. Team tactics 3.5.2.1. Objectives
[ ] Force the pace if a leader falls behind: Intensity ------|-- % If an opponent team leader is in difficulty, your riders will try to force the pace of the peloton in order to increase the distance with him.
3.5.2.3 Defensive tactics
[ ] Fight for stage win Your team will do everything in order to win the stage. NOTE: It is highly recommended to leave this case checked; otherwise your riders won't react to oensive tac cs and will just stay in the peloton.
[ ] Catch up with breakaways in the last [__] Kms Your rider will take turns in the peloton to catch up with the breakaway riders. [ ] Catch up with breakaway if it contains a dangerous rider in the last [__] kms Your rider will take turns in the peloton if the leader or any other dangerous rider from another team tries a breakaway in the last selected kilometers. [ ] Force the pace in the last [ ] Kms: Intensity -----|-This strategy is usually used to place your riders before the final sprint. Your riders will try to lead the group, force the pace to create a line and be well positioned when the final sprint will start. Caution: this tactics does nto take in account is your riders are part of the breakaway. [ ] Support leader after punctures and falls Your riders will support the leader if he falls or suffers a puncture. [ ] Block the chase in the peloton Your riders will lead the peloton and prevent any breakaway chase in order to buy time for the breakaway. If you select more than one leader in your team this option will cover all of them. So if the real leader falls it could be that no one will come to support him. It is not recommended to use all tactics at the same time; some of them interfere with others. It is wise to plan these strategies ahead of time.
[ ] Fight for Overall ranking Your team will do everything to reach the top of the general classification. [ ] Fight for Climber ranking Your team will do everything to wear the polka dot jersey. [ ] Fight for Points ranking Your team will do everything to obtain the green jersey. [ ] Fight for Young Rider ranking Your young riders under 25 years old will fight for the Young Rider ranking. [ ] Fight for Team ranking Your team will compete for Team ranking which is calculated after each race and is based on your team's 3 best riders' time.
3.5.2.4. The finish line
[ ] Prepare for sprint with lead-out riders Your riders will lead the peloton to prepare themselves for the final sprint.
3.5.3. Individual tactics
In order to unlock the different options, you must first decide on a role for your cyclist. Three roles are available: Leader, Team mate and Sprinter:
3.5.3.1. The leader The leader is the rider that races for the team's main objective. He is usually the best cyclist on the team and the rest of the selection must unite to support him. Depending on the type of cyclist that you place as leader, you must use a strategy that takes advantage of his skills.
3.5.3.1.1. Objectives [ ] Take part in final sprint This option is linked to team tactics. If this option is not activated, the rider will not attack or counter attack others cyclists. He will simply stay in the peloton. NOTE: It is highly recommended to leave this op on checked if you have planned a acks. [ ] Take part in sprints for climber's jersey The rider will try to sprint to gain a maximum of points during mountain stages.
3.5.3.1.2. Offensive tactics [ ] Attack in the final [__] kms: Intensity ------|-Set the starting point from where the rider will try to attack. [ ] Take part in sprints for climber's jersey The rider will try to sprint to gain a maximum of points during mountain stages.
[ ] Relay during breakaways: Intensity ------|-This option is linked to team tactics. The rider will relay during breakaways via an effort % based on team and individual tactics. [ ] Don't relay during breakaways The selected rider won't relay during breakaways. If the team option "Relay during breakaways" is activated, the rider will eventually relay but not at full power and depending on certain conditions. 3.5.3.1.3. Defensive tactics:
3.5.3.3. Team mates 3.5.3.3.1. Objectives Same tactics as the Leader. 3.5.3.3.2. Offensive tactics Same tactics as the Leader. 3.5.3.3.3.Defensive tactics
[ ] Be vigilant for risk of punctures This option greatly lowers the risk of punctures but your rider will be less responsive to your attack orders. [ ] Be vigilant for risk of falls This option greatly lowers the risk of falls but your rider will be less responsive to your attack orders. [ ]Counter attack dangerous riders in the final [__] kms The cyclist will try to ride with the other leaders in case they attack during the selected distance. 3.5.3.1.4 Finish line:
[ ] Protect [_________] The rider will protect the selected leader or sprinter during the stage. The protected rider will use less energy during the stage while the "protector" will use more. [ ] Catch up with breakaway The rider will try to decrease the distance with the breakaway. [ ] Relay inside the peloton: Intensity -------|-This option sets the relay intensity inside the peloton. A greater effort increases the chance to catch up with the breakaway but will also increase required energy. If the effort is not powerful enough, the rider won't be able to relay. Recommended setting > 72 %
[ ] Sprint from [__] m : Intensity -------|-The rider will start to sprint from 180 to 250 m from the finish line. The closer he is to the finish line, the lesser his effort. NOTE: if the lead-out man is not a good sprinter, he may delay the posi on of the true sprinter.
[ ] Force the pace The rider will relay at high speed to prepare for the final sprint. [ ] Support leader after punctures and falls Your rider will support the leader if he falls or suffers a puncture. [ ] Block the chase in the peloton Your rider will lead the peloton and prevent any breakaway chase.
3.5.3.2. The sprinter [ ]Counter attack dangerous riders in the final [__] kms The cyclist will try to ride with the other leaders in case they attack during the selected distance. [ ] Fight for stage win : this option is linked to the team tactics. If not selected the rider won't try to attack and will just stay in his group. [ ] Take in the sprint for the point jersey: The rider will try to have the most points he can in the sprints. Individual tactics call for custom and precise settings: your strategic choices will help you reach the top of the ranking
4.2. Check your ranking
4.1. Race simulation
Once the race is over, click on the "Results" button to display the ranking for the stage and other game classifications: general (yellow jersey), best climber, points classification, best young rider, and team ranking.
When the time for the race comes, the participating teams' information is taken into account and the stage is simulated. A message lets you know when the results are available. You can then consult a detailed race sequence to measure the effectiveness of your tactics and compare them to the ones elaborated by the other players. What are the 3 bars used during the simulation?
From the "Rankings" page, you can also check rankings for the other leagues in the game and the world classification all leagues combined. Points are awarded according to stage victories, intermediate sprints, jersey possession A search filter is available to look for specific riders.
5.1 My account Red Bar = Intense Effort attacks or sprints quickly decrease the bar - no red bar indicates that the rider will not be able to ride at his full speed - the bar will regenerate if the rider slows his race pace
Blue Bar = Maintained Effort this one decreases slower than the red bar- being out of blue bar will drastically lower your riders performance
"My account" is divided into 3 pages, which all contain the player's information. The player will have access to his email address, his password, and his user name, the name of his team, its nationality and its ranking.
Green Bar = Stamina slowly decreases during the stage - if the bar is totally gone, the rider's performance will greatly suffer until the next days rest. The green bar won't regenerate during the stage.
This page also displays personal information (needed for identification, and in case you lose your password) as well as different game settings and options.
The "My referrals" page shows information on the friends you have invited to the game. Inviting friends can help you earn Cyans to buy "Premium" items.
The tactics impact will also depend on other factors. Such as riders training and shape or other teams tactics. If you need help to find the best tactic, please do not hesitate to visit our forum where you can ask for advice from experienced players.

Across 6 different exercises, you will learn how the interface works as well as the function of the various rider control buttons. Select an exercise and then click on the "Next" button. You will be taken immediately to a given race situation, where you will receive instructions that will both help in the current race environment as well as allow you to discover the fundamentals of cycling tactics.
4.1.2. Using filters for choice of "Stage" or "Classic" races When you choose to take part in a one-off stage or classic race you will find three filters at the top of the page that will allow you quickly find a given race profile : Type, Terrain, Category. Type : Choose from "Road race", "Individual time trial" or "Team time trial". Profile : Choose from "Flat", "Hills" or "Mountain" Category : (Indicates the difficulty/renown of the race and the quality of the opposition). "CTT" = Cya Top Tour, (the highest level), "T.HC" = Tour Hors Catgorie (2nd category), "T.1" = Tour 1 (3rd category). 4.1.3. Custom Tour The "Custom Tour" option allows you to create a tour from default Pro Cycling Manager stages or ones that you have created yourself. When you click on the "Custom Tour" button a new page opens, offering you the possibility to "Create a new race" or to "Modify an existing race" (if you have already created one) 4.1.3a Create a new race
File : Enter name of file that will be saved to disk (including the ".xml" file extension !) You MUST press on the "Enter" key to validate name Race name : Type in name that will identify race inside Pro Cycling Manager. You MUST press on the "Enter" key to validate name Number of stages : You can have from 1 to 20 stages. Each time you click on the right arrow (to increase the number of stages) a new line is added to the stage table below. Country : Select from a wide range of countries When you click on a line in the stage table, the data within that line can be modified in the fields below. Stage name : You MUST press on the "Enter" key to validate the stage name 3D race : When you click on the race name, you access the list of stages in your "CM_stages" directory. Choose the file that corresponds to your stage and press the "Confirm" button. Profile : Choose from Flat, Hills or Mountain. It is imperative that the profile corresponds to the terrain in the 3D race file. Otherwise there will be problems with the games AI. Stage : Allows you to define the stage type (road race, individual time-trial or team time-trial) Mountain : allows you to define which attribute (hill or mountain) is used by the game's AI when calculating effort. At O (or close to 0) it is the "hill" attribute; at 1 or close to 1 it is the "mountain" attribute. It is, therefore, a good idea to set the figure to 1 if the stage is in the alps. Food : Defines the number of feeds available to the riders (not available for time-trials). The longer the race, the more feeds that are required. A normal allocation would be : < 100 kms = < 140 kms = < 200 kms = 3 > 200 = 4
Time gap : Defines the maximum time (in 10ths of a second) between two riders before a new time marker is set. The bigger the number, the more riders that will be included in a given group. 7 = 7/10 sec, 10 = 1 sec, 20 = 2 secs. Normal settings would be : - Finish at top of difficult climb = 7 - Finish at top of gentle slope = 10 - Finish on flat or base of descent = 20 You MUST put 20 for flat stages otherwise you will encounter problems with sprint finish. Save your changes at regular intervals using the "Save" button !!! The XML file is saved to the CM_Stages directory and the tours are automatically added to the lists of tours and stages in both "Stage Race" and "Stage" modes of play. Custom tours are also available in multiplayer mode. However, you must make sure that you have the relevant XML file(s) before joining a multiplayer custom tour. It may happen that, before entering a multiplayer game, the host/client names do not match. Once inside the game the names should correspond. 4.2. Load a game The page behind this tab shows a list of games that you have played (and that have been saved automatically). It shows the type of game (career, stage race, etc); when it was saved and your current position on that game's race calendar). Select a game in the list and click on the "Load" button to pick up where you left off. If you wish to erase a game, select it in the list and click on the "Delete" button. 4.3. Load a replay Behind this tab lies a list of all the replays of the various races in which you have taken part. You select a replay by clicking anywhere on a given line and then you confirm your choice with the "Load" button. Replays are stored in the game's "Replay" directory and three separate files (xxx.bin, xxx.cdd and xxx.cdi) make up the full "package". Replays can be shared with friends and family and also renamed. However, each time the three files must be involved.
6.2. TEAM
6.2.1. Finances A certain amount of money is allocated to the teams at the start of a season. The Monthly balance and Annual balance tabs present all income and spending for your team. The Loans tab enables you to borrow from to Euros, with repayments over 3, 6 or 9 months. You decrease/increase the loan amount or repayment period by clicking on the - or + buttons. You are limited to a total of 3 loans over your career.
6.2.2. Secondary sponsors You may sign up to 3 secondary sponsors to help your team financially. When you contact a sponsor, the company will send you an offer which you must accept or refuse. If you do refuse, you will be unable to contact the sponsor again for the rest of the season. Sponsors are classified according to certain criteria : Location : The country in which the company HQ is situated. An Italian sponsor will probably not be interested in supporting a German team, especially if the team has no Italian rider. Line of business : Do not create competition between sponsors. If you already have a bank amongst your sponsors then no other bank will wish to partner you. Budget : Companies with large sponsorship budgets usually seek to associate themselves with major teams. Contract : Current contract situation of sponsor. 6.2.3. Staff The staff page gives details on technical staff (scouts, trainers and doctors). Buttons at the bottom of the page allow you to Extend an existing contract; to Release a member of staff or to hire New staff. The number of scouts is limited to 3. The "Renown" of a staff member can affect some aspects of the game. For instance, the opinions of an internationally respected scout on the subject of rider potential will prove to be more accurate than those of a regional scout. 6.2.4. Negotiations This page shows the status of your squad for the current season + 1 (so for the 2005 season it will show 2006). The "Departures" tab shows those riders in your squad who will either be out of contract or who have signed for a new team for the next season. The "New riders" tab shows those riders that you have signed for next season. If you wish to offer a new contract to a rider on the "Departures" list, then select the line on which his name is displayed. (Do not click on his name as this will call up the rider's data page). When the rider is selected, click on the "Offer a contract" button. An on-screen message will confirm that the rider has been contacted. If the rider is interested he will fix a date for a meeting via the "News" page. When that date arrives you receive an on-screen message indicating that an item requires your immediate attention. When you go to your "News" page you will find a message indicating that you have a meeting with the rider in question. At the bottom left-hand corner of the screen you will find a "Start meeting" button that allows you to enter contract negotiations.
"Rouleur/climber"
MO (+++), REC (+++), TT (++), RES (++), HIL (+), STA (+)
The best "rouleurs/climbers" are much appreciated by spectators as they usually come to the fore in July during the Tour de France. To be well positioned in a 3 week race, a rider has to be

good in the mountains, strong in the time trials and have great powers of recovery to avoid an off-day. The true climber can hope to win mountain stages in minor or major tour races. He's often well-positioned on the final overall table on a tour, but his weakness in time-trials is a handicap when it comes to claiming the winner's jersey. The sprinter can produce an explosive effort over a short distance. Many stages over the flat, end up with a massed sprint finish and it's a t such moments that the sprinter comes to the fore. A "rouleur" is a rider capable of producing a solitary effort over long distances. Many stage races include such a race profile during the first few days, which allow such riders to be well placed on the overall result's table. Some even get to wear the leader's jersey. A "fighter" is a kind of solo adventurer, capable of trying the impossible, such as attacking towards the start of a race/stage and then hanging on over a long distance to hold off the peloton.
Good climbers with high MO abilities, good ACC but with poor TT skills are more at ease on difficult slopes with inclines of 8-10%. On the other hand a "rouleur"/climber (good MO score coupled with good TT, but little ACC) are far more at ease on "gentle" slopes in the 5-6%. Endurance plays a major role in long races. The table below gives an approximate idea on how many kilometers a rider has in him. Once a rider reaches his "limit" his performance level will slowly drop off. The longer a stage/race is the shorter the list of potential winners becomes, with only the best riders having a chance of victory. Stamina (STA) Fatigue threshold (kms approx) 200 250
6.3.4c Reports on talented youngsters When a scout returns from a mission you receive a message on the news page. The message contains a link to his reports, posted on this page. (Of course, as a keen manager you may not need his message to signal his return). Each line of the report pertains to one rider. At the base of the page there are two buttons : "Contact" and "Sponsor". If you want to offer a contract to the young rider you click on the "Contact" button. He will reply to your offer of a meeting via the "News" page. If, on the other hand you do not want to sign him immediately, but want to soften him up for a future approach you can offer him some help - equipment, training, financing (or all 3) then you should click on the "Sponsor" button. You can wait till the end of the season, hoping that he will lend an attentive ear to your offer of a contract. However, he may already be in contact with another team. You will see his reply to your offer on your "News" page. 6.3.4d Reports on pros When the scout returns he will send you a report on riders that he has seen. He will give his opinion on each rider's potential. If you wish to contact a rider you must click on his name, to open up his presentation page. Then click on the "Contact" button. The rider will reply to you via the "News" page" 6.3.5 Injuries 6.3.5a Your team The first tab shows your team name. It lists the injured riders in your squad. You may assign a doctor to reduce the time a rider is unavailable. 6.3.5b Other teams This is a list of all other injured riders. You can see information on the injury and the expected date of return. 6.3.6. Search This page allows you to consult the list of all professional riders in the games database. 6.3.6a Transfer info Here you can view riders by age, team, contract period,. A Yes in the Transfers column indicates that the rider is currently without a contract. You may use the Offer a contract button if you wish to sign the rider. The rider will acknowledge your contact and, if interested, he will propose a day for a meeting. If you want to search for a rider on one or several criteria you may use the Filter riders button. 6.3.6b Abilities Behind this tab lies a list of all riders, showing their values on Cycling Manager's 12 attributes. Both lists are interlinked. A sort on any criteria on one tab means that you find the list on the second tab is sorted in that same order.
6.4. EQUIPMENT
The equipment pages allow you to acquire frames, wheels and helmets for your team. At the start of your career your team possesses the entry level models for each manufacturer in each category. Several colours are used to indicate availability. Equipment you already possess is written on a light blue background. Equipment you may purchase is written on a green background. The name of the piece of equipment whose image you are currently viewing is written on a blue background. Certain equipment is not available to you. This is written in grey characters on a dark blue background. You may acquire the frame, wheel or helmet in question only when you have purchased the previous model in the range.
A stopwatch beside the name of a model means that it is destined for time-trials. Each piece of equipment has up to six stars for Flat, Mountain or Time-Trials. If you want to make a purchase, click on the Buy button. 6.4.1. Frames This page allows you to purchase all brands and models of frames in Pro Cycling Manager. Each acquisition has a cost which you must consider carefully, but it will improve the performance of your riders. 6.4.2. Wheels This page allows you to purchase all brands and models of wheels in Pro Cycling Manager. Each acquisition has a cost which you must consider carefully, but it will improve the performance of your riders. 6.4.3. Helmets This page allows you to purchase all brands and models of helmets in Pro Cycling Manager. Each acquisition has a cost which you must consider carefully, but it will improve the performance of your riders.
6.5. RESULTS
6.5.1. Calendar On this page you will find all the races on the international calendar, proposed by Cycling Manager. You may choose the races in which your team participates. As standard, your team will be registered for a certain number of races (Yes in the inscription column). It is possible to register or cancel an inscription during the 4 weeks preceding a race. To enter, you must click on the line of a race with Not invited in the inscription column. A Request an invitation button appears towards the bottom the screen. You confirm participation by clicking on the OK button. The inscription is pending until the race organiser replies. A - in the inscription column indicates that you are not yet in the 4 week pre-race period. Depending on the category of the race, the number of teams participating, the nationality of your team and its position in cyclings hierarchy, it will be more or less likely that an organiser accepts your inscription. Invitations for the big rendez-vous of the season are done via News messages. For Cya Top Tour races, participation is obligatory for all teams in the competition.
8.1.5 Rider Information button To the right of the information bar, a flag and a rider's name show the current selected rider (not necessarily from your team). When you click on this button a small individual rider's panel opens up, showing his various characteristics. The panel can be shut by clicking on the "x" at the top right. It is also possible to show/hide this information via the F3 function key. 8.1.6 In-Race Information page The "information" button (or space bar) causes a full screen information page to pop-up over the 3D race screen.
The number of tabs displayed depends on the race environment : Rider : Displays a list of all the riders by team. The race camera will position itself on a given rider if you click on his name. Profile : Brings up overview of race profile with detailed information on each group, including the riders in each group. The race camera will position itself on a group when you click on the relevant marker. Information : Shows another view of the race profile with information on the physical side of the race : distance, climbs, highest point,. Ranking : 5 buttons enable you to consult current overall standings as well as the tables for points, climbers, under-25s and teams Sprints : The race profile is again displayed with a table showing the results of the various sprints along the route (if applicable in that race). Events : Lists of all the events during a race. It is possible to export the list at any moment, by using the button at the base of the page.
8.1.7. Events A race is peppered with events (falls, attacks, punctures,.). Each time something of note happens a message appears towards the bottom of the screen.
Certain events may concern several riders. If a team leader is involved his name appears between brackets. If a member of your team is involved the message appears in green. It is possible to focus the camera directly on an event that is displayed on-screen. All you have to do is to click on the event hat interests you. However, you must react quickly as the display is updated in real-time. You should play close attention to the events as they are displayed. For example, if your rider is in a breakaway group, but he doesn't take on his share of the relay work, the other riders will show their dissatisfaction through an event message. If you see such a message, it won't be long before the other riders will try and lose your rider. 8.1.8 Victory animations If you are lucky enough to bring your rider to a race victory, you can choose the way he celebrates as he crosses the line. The following keys - Q, W, X, C, V, B, N launch a variety of animations that you can discover as you go from victory to victory. 8.1.9 End of a race, podium and replay At the end of a race, when all riders have arrived (speed up race to x8 to get every one home quickly once all your riders are over the line) a few of the race highlights are shown on-screen. What you see depends on the race. You can stop the presentation by clicking on the "Next" button or you can jump to the next highlight by pressing on the spacebar. You are then invited to "See the race replay", "See the podium replay" or to "Go to the race results page". 8.1.9a Replay All races are now recorded from start to finish and stored in the game's "Replay" directory. For the replay to be permanently saved, you must click on the "Save" button which is displayed on-screen while the replay is being shown.
You can use the slider to position the replay view at any moment during the race and you can use the speed buttons to accelerate the running speed.
8.1.9b Podium The podium shows the race winner accompanied by the, obligatory, young ladies. The race results are inlaid over the podium images. When all is over, the day's result is displayed as a title on the front of the "Cyanide Sport" newspaper.
Individual Road Race
At the bottom left of the screen, below the action panel, is a 3 icon menu bar that calls up different rider control panels. The icon on the left calls up the main control panel. The middle icon calls up the protection control panel. The S icon calls up a sprint panel which includes a sprint energy bar. 8.2.1. Main control panel
Each of your riders is represented by a box on the left of the screen. On the top line you will find the rider's name. Beside it, the letter(s) inside the box indicate the group in which he is currently riding (P = Pack, E = Escape). Below that, from left to right, a feeding button with number of remaining "meals", speed in km/h, heart rate and his effort level in %,. In the bottom right-hand corner is an icon that represents his current activity (sprint, attack, eating, ). To its left are 3 energy bars : a green energy bar showing energy levels for the whole race; a blue energy bar showing energy for attacks and a red bar, broken into 4 sections, for physical breakdown. At the tip of the box is a vertical box. When this vertical rectangle blinks green, it means that the rider is feeling particularly good. It may offer an occasion for him to try something !
The green energy bar shows the riders stamina and it is slowly eaten up during a race. Eating will restore it somewhat so when it is empty and the rider has no food left, he will slow right down. If the rider finishes the day with an empty green energy he will feel it the next day ! The blue energy bar is consumed in attacks and when riding at high speed. It drops away quickly during high activity levels, but it builds up again when a rider is heading downhill or when he reduces his effort. If the bar is empty when another rider makes a breakaway on a hill then the rider has no hope of following. The red energy bar translates the physical state of the rider. If its 4 constituent parts are full then the rider will have a physical breakdown. He can make it to the finishing line, but that's all that can be expected of him. The bar is broken down into 4 sections of 25%. The bar can vary inside a section, but once a plateau has been crossed the red bar will not sink back. 8.2.1a. Action Panel
The action panel is at the bottom left of the screen. The actions will apply to all riders selected at that moment.
Sprint : this allows the rider to have a burst of speed over a short period. A sprint can only be launched 3 kilometers from the finish line in a race on the flat and 1 kilometer from the line in a mountain stage. Sprinting consumes the riders red energy bar. This order is independent of the effort cursor level. Follow : to track follow a team mate who will lead the rider out, or to take the wheel of another sprinter, for intermediate or final sprints during the closing kilometers of a race select one of your riders; click with the right mouse button on the team mate/sprinter and then left-click on this button. Your rider will try and settle into the wake of the team mate/sprinter. However, if another (AI) rider has the same idea there will be a struggle with one of the riders coming off second best. If your rider cannot take the wheel of the sprinter he may settle into the line or he may give up. NB : This order is also available via a context menu. 8.2.2. Protection control panel
It is possible to protect a rider, such as a team leader, by using the protection control panel. The protected rider will use less energy while those protecting him will see energy consumption rise. By clicking on the middle icon in the bar at the top of the screen, the rider boxes will change to a protection-specific display. Protection works by selecting a given rider and defining whom he protects.
Activate a rider's box and then select the protected rider by clicking on the arrows at the base, to the right and left, of team member's names. Once the protected rider's name is displayed, click inside the tick box to the right of the energy bars. You can activate as many team mates as you want to protect a rider. A padlock will appear in the box of the protected rider and at its base you will see a figure representing the number of team mates protecting him. A protected rider cannot protect another team mate.
It is also possible to protect a rider by using the context menu. First select a team mate using the left mouse button; then right-click on the rider to be protected. Select "Protect" from the context menu that appears. 8.2.3. Sprint control panel
(cm6_open_sprint_panel.tif) The third icon in the bar calls up the sprint control panel. It can be activated before intermediate sprints as well as in the closing kilometers of a race. Rider boxes are displayed with two sprintspecific elements. Firstly, a sprint energy bar and, secondly, an aggressiveness selection option.
The energy bar is specific to sprinting and although it is possible to sprint when the bar is empty, a rider is far less effective than if he has sprint energy. Below the bar is a selection box that enables you to set a rider's aggressiveness during a sprint. There are 3 levels : Fair play, Normal and Aggressive. An aggressive rider is more likely to win a sprint than one who plays by the rules, but he is also more likely to come unstuck through a crash or a fall. 8.3. Individual Time-Trial
Main control panel
Times and placings
The "Main" control panel is the default display.
To the right of the automatic/manual select icon, it shows the rider's name, his speed, his heart rate and his effort level. Below that are three horizontal bars. The first is the effort cursor, which can be adjusted in "manual" mode. As effort increases, the colour changes from green, to yellow, to red. If a rider stays too long on red he will burn up too much energy and will fade before he reaches the finishing line. The blue bar shows the rider's energy level. It starts full, but it empties as the race progresses. The white bar, at the bottom of the control panel, shows the relative distance to the finishing line. If, towards the end of a race, a rider has more blue bar than white bar, it may be worth while upping his effort rate. However, a short blue bar compared to a long white bar means that the rider may have trouble making it to the finishing line at his current effort level. The objective for all riders is for the blue energy bar to be empty just as the rider crosses the finishing line. NB : Too many changes in a rider's effort will lead to a poor performance. Best results are obtained by a constant level of effort. The stopwatch button changes the display in the rider panels at the left of the screen. If a rider has not started out, the displays will be empty, but once he is on his way you can check his relative position at two intermediate points and, when he crosses the finishing line, his current race position.
These values will constantly change until the last rider crosses the line. 8.3.3. Real-time race positions An information bar that sits at the top of the screen allows you to keep an eye on current race standings.
Displays the top three riders at the first intermediate position.
Displays the top three riders at the second intermediate position.
Displays the top three riders having crossed the finishing line. 8.4. Team Time-Trial
Team time-trials have their own, specific, gameplay. The key to the event is to have a full team work together in a race against the clock. However, each rider must be managed individually and none can be placed on "automatic" control. The main problem for the player is that each rider has his own strengths and weaknesses which must be taken into account when setting overall team rhythm. Too fast and some of the team may drop off the pace. Given that a team's time is taken when the fifth rider crosses the line it serves no purpose to push riders to their limits. Especially if you only have five riders left ! 8.4.1. Rider information and control The rider panel resembles, in some ways, the road race and individual time-trial panels. On the top line you'll find the rider's speed, heart rate and effort level, but other information and buttons are specific to team time trials.
