Great Version This is a brilliant version of a brilliant boardgame. Scrabble 2002 - A disappointment Compared to previous versions, Scrabble 2002 concentrates far more on the graphics than playing the game itself.

Varsity Baseball

By Brian Midthun After opening the spring baseball season winning 3 of 4 games the Enderlin-Maple Valley Falcons have been held in check by mother nature pitching a no-hitter during the entire second week of scheduled games. Region I games against Northern Cass, LaMoure and Kindred have all been postponed due to wet weather. In the April 18th season opener vs. the Fargo North JV the Falcons were led by 2 doubles by Thomas Lindgren, 4 RBIs by Spencer Gillund, and the shut out pitching of Jordan Haseleu for a 5-0 victory. Defensively the Falcons turned 3 double plays to erase the 6 base runners allowed in a strong outing by Jordan. In the night cap the pitchers Gareth Hanson and Dylan Lerud, combined for a 4 hitter in leading the Falcons to 2-1 victory. Dylan Lerud also drove in both runs with a 2 run double in the third inning. The Falcons opened region play on April 19th against Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page. The Falcons struggled to produce a run having only one hit, dropping the first game 2-0. Despite holding the Spartans to 2 hits and striking out 8, Taran Langland suffered the first loss of the young season. The Falcons rebounded in game 2, with a 3 run third inning. After loading the bases in the bottom of the 3rd, Daniel Lindgren drove in 2 runs and then another run came in on Spencer Gillunds single. The Falcons scored the winning run on back to back doubles by Tanner Groth and Taran Langland. Coltin Huus went the distance on the mound earning the 3rd win of the season for the Falcons.
The young Falcon team opened the year starting: 1 senior, 3 juniors, 3 sophomores, 1 freshman and 1 eighth grader. The abbreviated season will soon become very hectic as we start having to make-up rain dates. The Falcon JV squad split the season opening doubleheader against Northern Cass. The JV team won the opening game 1-0 and then dropped the nightcap 4-0. Daniel Lindgren drove in the only run for the Falcons in the 1-0 victory and Josh Michaelson threw a 1-hitter in a strong pitching performance. The Falcons were unable to record a hit in the second game losing 4-0. The Falcons are hoping that weather improves as we will again be hosting 16 teams during the annual invitational tournament on May 1314. Teams from 7 of the 8 Class B regions will be traveling to Enderlin and Casselton for a round robin tournament featuring 24 total games in the largest Class B baseball Tournament in the state.

State FCCLA Participants

The Enderlin Chapter FCCLA spring activities include many community and chapter functions. STAR event participants attended the FCCLA state convention April 10, 11 and 12 in Bismarck. Two groups competed. Seniors Alexa Dixson, Megan Trautman and Courtney Lautt presented their Eagles Fight Back Illustrated Talk event and sophomores Krista Thielges, Krystal Huxsahl and Kasey Chesley shared their Chapter Showcase Manual. Both groups received silver medals. The girls also participated in a dodgeball tournament, and attended sessions promoting Zumba dancing for fitness, developing leadership skills, and the dangers of distracted driving The chapter held several fundraisers this winter for various causes. Two 3 point shoot outs were held during half time of two basketball games for the benefit of Megan Kruegers medical needs. A dance sponsored by the chapter in February was done for the benefit of the Forrest Madaus family. The state
Regional Instrumental music took place on April 6th. Enderlin students brought 25 entries to the competition which is the most is quite a while. Enderlin has good day bringing home three 2 ratings, ratings and 5 stars. The entries that earned stars will be advancing to the state competition in Minot along with Gareth Hansons vocal solo. Students receiving star ratings included: Justin Bartholomay with a baritone solo, Josey Gruba with an oboe solo, and Lacey Langland with a flute solo. Two groups also received star ratings. These were Josh Michaelson, Spencer Gillund, Taylor Benneweis, Justin Bartholomay and Casey Langland with a Brass Quintet playing Belgin March, and Lacey Langland, Brittany Maajso, Alyssa Bartholomay, Gareth Hanson, Justin Bartholomay and Casey Langland with a mixed instrumental ensemble playing Normandy Beach. This ensemble consists of a flute, a clarinet, a trumpet, a baritone, a tuba and a snare drum. It is affectionately referred to as the weird group for its make-up not its sound. many wonderful groups and the students worked very hard preparing and performing their selections. The groups that are attending state can be heard at the spring concert on May 3rd at 8:00. On April 14th, Dr. James Adams the director of bands and brass at Valley City State University paid a visit to Enderlin High school. As a guest conductor he directed the band on Thursday morning to help them improve their technique and overall sound. This was a great opportunity for the players at Enderlin High School. Dr. Adams spent a great deal of time talking about the quality of sound each type of instrument can and should create. He worked with small sections of players to help them experiment and get that ideal sound. Dr. Adams often stated that air is the foundation of sound and many students left band rehearsal quite out of breath from trying to produce all the air Dr. Adams was requesting. After band rehearsal all of the brass students got to work with Dr. Adams small pull out lessons throughout the morning. In groups of 1-4 people at a time Dr. Adams would work with them to further develop and improve their playing technique. These lessons were very intense with a lot of long and loud playing, and even with only 15 minuets to play most students left their lessons massaging their lips trying to restore feeling. Dr. Adams also spent time with Justin Bartholomay and the Brass Quintet to help further prepare them for the State Competition on May 7th.

the tournament will leave the school at 7:00 with our first team performing their central challenge at 8:05. Many fun activities are planned for the students at the state tournament for their down time. Students can participate in Ductapia, mazes, scavenger hunts, the dance, and other imagination driven activities. Seven teams will be competing at the state competition in Casselton. Our youngest 2 teams will be solving the problem entitled Big Bugs Bad Day in which their play needs to have a bug character who is having a bad day. Teams need to decide if their bugs day gets better or not. Four teams in the completive category will be solving the challenge entitled Triple Take Road Show. Here teams will use different storytelling methods to tell a story to three pretend audiences. They will need to portray travel methods between shows as well as create a technical spectacle. Our last team is also a competitive team solving the challenge called Verses! Foiled Again! Here teams will design and build a structure made of wood, foil, and glue. They will test how much weight their structure will hold and present a story about a character that is foiled. They will also need to integrate team-written verse and published verse. It has been a great year with great kids. Wish us lots of luck!

Kim Brown Visits Enderlin

By Lollie Adair

We were one of the lucky schools who hosted Kim Brown while she was in North Dakota for the ND State Reading Conference. She is the younger sister of author Marc Brown who writes the "Arthur" books. Kim is Marc's inspiration for the irrepressible and assertive D.W. character in the Arthur books. She was in town on April 14. Her goal is to inspire students to write and illustrate their own stories. She had the children draw Arthur pictures. At the end of the presentation she gave each child an autographed stamp on their Arthur drawing or on their Arthur book (if they brought one of their own to be autographed).

NOVINT FALCON INTRODUCTION
Our sense of touch connects us to the world around us and is an integral part of how we experience things, both physically and emotionally. In the past, games have incorporated increasingly sophisticated graphics and sound design, but none have added realistic touch, until now. The award-winning Novint Falcon makes virtual items and experiences feel real. Feel powerful touch feedback, textures, weight, and shapes when you play our Novint enabled PC games. Hold the Falcons interchangeable Grip and feel a characters actions instead of controlling a game through mouse-clicks and button-presses. Feel the weight of a basketball as you shoot it towards a hoop -- the momentum and impact as you swing a virtual golf club and strike a ball -the recoil of a weapon or the physical characteristics of virtual objects and environments. In the same way the introduction of sound changed motion pictures, or graphics made the Internet what it is today, Novint's technology transforms the user experience by adding realistic interactive 3D touch to computing. While the concept of interactive touch in computing is as unimaginable to most people as the idea of television was in the age of radio, we envision a nottoo-distant future when it is as commonplace and ubiquitous as a mobile phone or a computer mouse. Novint is pioneering a new category of 3D touch products and we hope you enjoy your experience with the Novint Falcon by Novint Technologies, Inc. Thank you for taking this leap forward with us.

Game Control Overview

You are almost ready to play the Novint Games. Lets get comfortable with the Falcon first.
The Novint Falcon is an entirely new type of game controller. It is, essentially, a small robot that replaces your mouse or joystick, to let you experience true virtual touch unlike any controller in history. The Novint Falcon lets you control a game in three dimensions, and feel high-fidelity three-dimensional force feedback. The Falcon Grip moves right and left, forwards and backwards, like a mouse, but also moves up and down. When you hold the Falcons detachable Grip and move your cursor to interact with a virtual object, environment, or character, motors in the device turn on and are updated approximately 1000 times a second, letting you feel texture, shape, weight, and dimension. The Falcon lets you control and interact with games in a more realistic way, allowing you to develop real physical skill and muscle memory, adding a realistic new dimension to gaming.
Removing and Attaching the Falcon Grip
Your Limited Edition Novint Falcon Bundle comes with two Grips or handles that are interchangeable. We plan to offer additional Grips at www.novint.com which may provide different shapes and colors and unique game functionality (such as a steering wheel for driving games, or a pistol Grip for first-person shooters). To remove the Grip, squeeze the Grip Release located on the left lower side of the Grip base. While it is pinched together, pull the Grip away from the Grip base.

To attach a new Grip, simply line up the U-shaped rod on the Grip with the U-shaped hole on the Grip base. Then push the Grip forward into the Grip base until it snaps into place.
Ergonomics of the Novint Falcon
Using your Falcon comfortably
1. Novint recommends two workspace setups for using the Falcon to prevent fatigue and injury: 1a. Rest your elbow on your chairs arm rest so that it supports your arms weight while you are using the Falcon. Ideally you should use a chair that has adjustable arm rests. Keep your arm parallel to the ground and not touching the table.
2. While using the Falcon, maintain your wrist at a neutral position so that there is no bend from your wrist to your hand. 3. Make sure the Falcon is clear of other objects on your desk (including food and drinks). 4. Never place any part of your body other than your hand near the Falcons workspace. 5. Take breaks from game play often.
Caution when using your Falcon
Although the Falcon is meant to be robust, it is still a precision instrument. DO NOT BE TOO ROUGH IN YOUR MOVEMENTS WITH THE FALCON. Avoid excessive force at the edges of the movement range to avoid damage to any of its components. Be sure that you dont let go of the Falcon Grip while you are using it, especially when there is a big force. Dont leave small children unattended while using the Novint Falcon. 14
DONT PUSH THE FALCON GRIP IN ANY DIRECTION WITH TOO MUCH FORCE
