Starting Stats: HP: 28 MP: 18 STR: 6 DEX: 8 VIT: 6 AGI: 7 INT: 6 MND: 6 CHA: 5
Here are the states and how they affect your character. HP: Health Points of your character. When this reaches zero you die. When you die you lose 10% of the exp required for the next level. You can down level so be careful! Also, if a mage has a revive spell he can revive you right there for a lesser exp loss. Otherwise, youll have to return to your homepoint. MP: Mana Points. Mages need this for their spells, without they are useless almost, so make sure your mages have MP before engaging in tough fights. STR: Strength. This is important for melee classes and the more you have the more physical damage you will do. DEX: Dexterity. This determines how accurate your attacks are. The higher the DEX the better your hit count will be. VIT: Vitality. This determines how much damage you can take, similar to HP. AGI: Agility. This determines how quick and agile you are. Higher numbers here make you dodge attacks more and harder to hit.
INT: Intelligence. This is important for mages. This determines the damage of your black spells. MDN: Mind. This is similar to INT but instead affects white magic. CHR: Charisma. This only applies to Bards. The higher the charisma a Bard has the more effective their songs are. TP: Tactical Points. This is mostly for melee characters. TP is similar to MP but used for skills on warriors. But unlike MP, TP can only be acquired by physical fighting. As you fight and take hits, your TP gauge is raised. At increments of 100% you can use a weapon skill. The max you can have is 300%. At each increment of 100 you acquire, the skill used will be come more powerful. Also note that TP will diminish as you rest.
The job system in FFXI is highly flexible allowing you to use practically all the jobs in the game on one character. Your character never has a level like most games but your jobs have levels. You dont have to worry about picking the right job when you make your character because you can switch between jobs freely at no cost, you only worry about Race. The basics of this system are as follows. You start out and you pick a standard job. You can kill guys, gain exp, and level up like most games. As you level your job you get access to new spells, abilities, skills, etc. Once you are level 18, you can do the subjob quest to be able to use a subjob. These quests are found in either Selbina or Mhaura. Now you can have 2 jobs at once but there is a catch. First off, you can only level your main job at one time. Meaning you could be a level 20 Monk and a 9 Warrior and only your job as a Monk will level up as you kill things. To level your subjob you must switch them around so for instance you are a 9 Warrior, 4 Monk. To switch your jobs simply visit a mog house and its in a menu there. Next you may have noticed that the 20 monk turned into a 4 monk when we switched the jobs. This is because you subjob is always capped at half of your main job. So lets say you have 2 jobs both at level 20. When you set the first one as your main it will read level 20. When you set the second job as your subjob it will read level 10. Also you a lot of people ask me what the point of a subjob is. Well, you subjob will contribute states, abilities, etc to you like it normally would EXCEPT, the 2 hour abilities from your subjob are not given. Now that you have an understanding of the system we get can into the jobs.
Qufim Island , Zeruhn Mines, Maze of Shakhrami , Dangruf Wadi, Valkurm Dunes, Jugner Forest, Rolanberry Fields, Ordelle's Caves, Korroloka Tunnel, Buburimu Peninsula, Pashhow Marshlands, Oztroja Castle, Bostanieu Oubliette, Toraimarai Canal, Serpent Grotto, Sanctuary of Zi'tah. My suggestion is get a high level thief to help for your increased drop rate. The drop ratio is around 1% so itll take a while. Now, go click on the door of House of the Hero in Windurst Walls once you get the ruby. Now you must take the ruby to 7 different weather spots. All you do is visit the area while the weather condition is happening. You need to find the following: Pleasant, Water, Fire, Earth, Lightning, Ice, and Wind. The following is a small color guide to help you. If you need help finding the weather locations there is a NPC in each section of town that will tell you weather conditions of surrounding areas. Pleasant Orange Water Blue Fire Red Earth Yellow Lightning Purple Ice Light Blue Wind Green Now head to La Theine Plateau and go the stone circle in G6. Trade your ruby to the ??? and now you can become a summoner! Your first summon is Carbuncle. To get more summons you must complete other quests and defeat summons.
World Information
Kingdoms and Conquest
When you create your character you have to pick one of the 3 kingdoms. I will now explain the kingdom and conquest system. Square-Enix wanted to add some more depth to the game and that would be the conquest system. A quick definition would be a system for the kingdoms to fight over control of lands and whoever has control gets benefits. When you start the game you will be asked to pick 1 of 3 kingdoms. This will be your kingdom for a long time (You can switch but its VERY costly and not recommended until far later in the game). Also depending on the race you pick and the kingdom you may receive a bonus ring. These rings are helpful but are not that so dont worry too much about getting the ring. See the quick-guide section for details about choosing a winning kingdom.
Alchemist Bastok Refines materials and makes potions, medicines, etc. Especially useful is the refining skills for blacksmiths. Blacksmith Bastok, San Doria, Windurst Makes weapons, armor, tools from an assortment of metals. Boneworker Windurst Makes crafts from various bones found throughout the world Carpenter San Doria Makes various items from wood such as furniture, instruments for bards, shields, and other miscellaneous items.
Culinary Windurst Cooks food of course! Experts at making foods of all assortments. Fishing Windurst Common profession because of its low cost and can be done pretty much anywhere. Fishermen can also catch items and even monsters if they fish in the wrong spots. Goldsmith/Jeweler Bastok, Windurst Makes rings, amulets, and jeweled weapons. Tanner San Doria Makes a lot of medium grade armor and other various items from animal skins. Weaver Bastok, San Doria, Windurst Makes various types of clothing and other garments. Crystals Effential to crafting and making money in the world. There are 8 total:
You can find these from a number of sources but the most common is killing monsters in an area of your nations control with signet on. NOTE: To join a guide talk to one of the guides NPCs and ask to join. Upon joining you will receive a free crystal and a few recipes.

Go to the Horutoto tower heading northeast. Hug the wall on the right until you find a cracked wall at G-8. Go through the east door at D-10. Now go down to a gate at H-9. There will be 3 colors on the
ground. White, Red and Black. Each Mage must stand in one of the circles in order for the door to open. There will be some fake walls up ahead, just walk past them. Wendigos there will give the test answers for Making the Grade quest. Examine all of the Magical Gizmos then go to H-6 to head back to Heavens Tower to complete quest. See Jeuno Missions for Missions 9-12
Tips for success: 1. Know your role and shut your mouth. Enough said. A warriors job is to take all the hits and keep provoking stuff off the rest of the party. The mages will keep you alive just keep the monster off of them. A mages job is to heal or deal damage. If youre a WHM you heal the tanks to keep them alive who in turn keep the monsters off you so you live. Also, as a mage you dont run up to the monsters and start hitting them with your stick; keep your distance and cast your spells. 2. Be nice and make friends. Friends are one of the most valuable assets you can have in the game. If youre an asshole you will earn a bad reputation and you will have a lot of problems getting a party. So be nice to everyone and try helping someone out if you can, who knows they may return the favor. 3. Follow group orders. Dont run off and pull monsters to the group when someone else is. This is one of the biggest problems, 2 people go find monsters and doparty/party members die. 4. Join a Linkshell. Its similar to a guild but more like a group of friends. A linkshell is just a chat room feature in the game but its handy. Try get to get to know a group of people that you can play with; it makes the game so much more fun when you can log on and talk to friends regularly. Leveling I could bore you with a ton of details and stats but what kind of a quick start guide would that be. The basics are as follows: 1. Until around level 10, as you progress farther from the town entrance the harder the guys will be. You should be able to gauge what you should be fighting. I suggest killing many easy guys instead of 1 hard guy. Its less risky and gets you more items. 2. Agro Monsters: Quadaves, Goblins, Orcs, and Yagudo are common agro monsters. Meaning they look for a fight. Many of monsters will too, youll just have to learn as you fight what is agro and what isnt. 3. Linking: Some monsters link meaning if you see 2 goblins, even though you may keep your distance and draw only 1, he will link or call for help in a sense to the other one and it will come attack. YOU MUST LEARN THIS.if you are not carefully you or your party will die. 4. Try not to party until youre around level 10 or higher. Its a waste of time. 5. Dont worry about if u die at level 4, just get back out there and fight, your exp loss is very low at those levels. 6. Stay equipped. Dont be a level 8 WAR with a level 1 sword or a level 8 BLM with level 2 spells. 7. If you get in trouble, use the call for help command, it will send out an alert on all players near you and usually someone will help you. BE SURE TO
THANK THEM! Note: After the call for help command is issued you will not get EXP from that kill. 8. Learn Skill chains early from people around you. These are special effects from performing abilities and weapon skills at precise times in certain orders. Generally you perform your move in the skill chain 2-3 seconds after the previous persons move is done. Youll catch on through playing. 9. Chaining. This is when you kill monsters of similar type and level within a given time period and receive a bonus. For example, if you killed 6 worms in a row that were decent enough of difficulty you would get a chain bonus of exp for each worm you chain. The bonus grows larger the more you chain at once within a given time period. Learn thisits crucial for fast exp. Quests and Missions Quests will give you small rewards and often very useless rewards for your time at low levels. I suggest if you want to get going fast, just keep leveling and go back for the quests when youre bored of leveling. There are TONS of quests in FFXI. Just talk to all the NPCs around town and you should get a lot. So youll always have something to do. Doing all the quests you can benefit in a number of ways if youre the type that likes to do everything. The more quests you do the more FAME you get. Fame is what it is, your fame throughout the town and world. The more fame you have, the more quests you will get and the nicer vendors are towards you (Lower buy prices, higher sell prices). Missions become a lot of fun later on (Dragon quest =) ) but dont feel you need to do them to have a good character. I suggest getting to a good level then trying them or just doing them with a party you meet. Its nothing you should seek to do for the time being. One suggestion I have is to wait on any major questing or missions until you get a Chocobo. This allows you to save so much time.
Chocobos Everyone always wants to know how to get one when they start playing. Well first off you need to be level 20 before you can even attempt the quest. Basically all you do is get 4 Grasses and go to Jeuno once you hit 20. The Grasses can be found by killing Wadi Hares in the Dangruf Wadi (They are found in the north section mainly. You can also purchase these from an Auction House. Now you must get to Jeuno WITHOUT a chocobofun. This is very hard so I suggest the following strategy. Either get a high level person to escort you thereor walk yourself. Switch your job to a level one job so if you die, you wont lose exp. Trust me, at your level you wont be able to stand up to the monsters on the way. Level 1!? Now what do I do? Well you walk. Follow the paths from your town the whole way through as much as possible. Take your time and dodge monsters. This can be tricky but if you take your time you should be able to dodge around monsters and get there. If you die, try again, itll take a bit to get there. If your level 1 head to your mog house and switch back to the level 20+ job (Youll have to speak with the guard to activate your mog house in Jeuno). Now head to the Chocobo stables (Itll be on your right, down some stairs). Speak with Brutus and answer his questions. For the first question choose the first response, for the second question choose the second response. Now go talk to Osker. Now go trade the Chocobo one of your grasses. He will reject it, but this is normal. Now check the time, everytime the clock strikes 00:00 you can try trade him a grass again (24 hours in game = 1 hour real time). The first 2 attempts he wont take it but the last 4 he will. So itll take a total of 6 hours! After that youll get your chocobo license. Notes: You must be on a level 20+ Job to rent a Chocobo. They can tire and will run away from you. You usually have plenty of time to travel between 2 towns. Dont go near anyone casting Fire spells because chocobos are scared of fire. Copyright HelpGuides2003
There are Chocobo stables in each town and at each craig. Crafting Crafting is something fun you can do when youre not leveling. Its a great way to turn normally useless and invaluable items into something you can profit from. I highly suggest you check out some guilds and look for ways you can profit from the items you find in your area. For example, an easy guild and profitable start is making copper ore. You only use a fire crystal and some copper ore and you can sell copper ingots for a respectable price. Check out the crafting guilds section for more information. Mog House Everyone gets a Mog House. A mog house is a home for you to store items and decorate to your liking. No one else can enter your mog house but you. Inside your mog house you have numerous options. You can store items, change jobs, plant things, etc. You can also decorate your house however you want by buying furniture. In each of the 4 main towns you can have a mog hosue in a way. Your home town will have your mog house it will be decorated however you decorate it. When you travel to another town you must rent a mog house. There is no fee, all this does is give you a generic mog house in that town and your items and stuff will transfer over and itll function as normal. Just look different. Emotions There are tons of chat macros and emotions. Here is a list of the emotions: /bow.Bow politely to another player /point.. Point at another player /salute.. Salute another player /kneel...Kneels /laugh...Laughs /cry.. Weeps /no.. Shake your head negatively. /nod, /yes.. Nod your head positively. /wave...Waves /farewell, /goodbye..Wave goodbye. /welcome. Greet an acquaintance. /joy.. Express your joy /cheer... Cheers someone /clap.. Claps /praise.. Praise or honor someone /smile...Smiles /poke..Pokes someone /slap..Slaps someone /stagger..Stagger around /sigh...Sighs /comfort.. Comfort someone
/surprised..Act surprised /amaze..Act amazed /stare... Stare at someone /blush..Blush at someone /angry.. Be angry /disgusted, /upset. Same as angry /muted..Close your mouth in silence /doze...Sleeps /panic...Run around crazily /grin.. Grins at someone /dance... Dances /think...Looks puzzled /fume... Fume /doubt... Doubt something /sulk..Sulk, or be depressed You can also set macros with these and make your own sayings. A popular one for Tarus is the famous Taru dance. To set this up youd macro the following: Line1: /emote does the TaruTaru dance! Line2: /motion panic The /motion command removes the default text so you can add your own!

In the past, the city-states battled tirelessly, vying for domination and hegemony. Deathmongering beast tribes ravaged the land unchecked, leaving only destruction in their wake. Unseen enemies lurked beyond the borders, striking at the slightest provocation or show of weakness. The history of Eorzea is a tapestry woven of war and strife, stained with the blood of those gone before, and the tears and ash of fallen endeavours. And yet the love the gods bear this unforgiving land endures, now as always. What is the allure of this seemingly forsaken place? With what hope and to what end do would-be inhabitants journey here to live out their days? The answer lies with that which gives form to Hydaelyn and all myriad creations in it crystals. The cornerstone of all things, it is these crystallized manifestations of the aether that beckon the people to come, risking all in the undertaking. And so it is that adventures too have harkened the call to bear witness to the epic set to unfold in this land. This Eorzea
