Ahoy, buccaneers! The object of this game is to find and collect the treasures hidden in the chests on the ocean floor. But it won't be easy, landlubbers! The high seas are full of hazards and pitfalls - like the slimy sea monster, who would love to sink your ship! SETTING UP THE GAME Attention parents - separate chests from plastic frame by carefully twisting and snipping apart with scissors. Gently remove the protective slip sheet from the "high seas" clear lid. Lift the lid from the game board, and place the treasure chests (with their lids closed) on all the spaces marked with a cross (X). Chests may contain coins worth 0, 2, 3, or 4 points. Replace the "high seas" clear lid and place the sea monster in his lair - the center space. Choose a ship, and place it on a corner square. This is your home port. OBJECT OF THE GAME The first player to collect and return 10 or more points worth of gold coins to his home port is the winner. (To play a longer game, pirates must collect at least 14 points to win.) HOW TO PLAY The youngest player goes first, followed by the other players in clockwise direction. To sail your ship, roll the number die and move your ship the number of spaces shown. You may move fewer spaces than the number shown if you wish. When you sail over a treasure chest, position your ship directly above the chest so that the magnet in the ship attracts the magnet in the chest. If the chest does not immediately attach, move your ship back and forth over the chest. When the chest attaches to your ship, you've captured the treasure! On your next turn, start heading back to your home port. Look out for the reefs! If you cross one, your ship will sail on, but your treasure (if you have any) will be caught on the reef and end up at the bottom of the sea. When you reach your home port with a treasure chest, you may open it to count your coins! (Don't show any other pirates though - keep your treasure to yourself.) Once you roll and move, your turn is over. Play passes to the next player. REMEMBER THE SAILING RULES OF THE SEVEN SEAS Pirate ships CANNOT. (1) Sail diagonally. (2) Sail into another vessel's port. (3) Sail onto a square containing the sea monster or another ship. (4) Sail over an island. (5) End up in the sea monster's lair, although a ship can sail through this area if the sea monster isn't there. (6) Sail over a treasure chest if the ship is already carrying one. (7) Continue sailing after removing a chest at home port.
If you roll a one or four on the number die, you must also roll the doom die! (Don't forget to move your ship before you roll, though.) Here's what can happen: YOU WOKE UP THE SEA MONSTER! (Image of Sea Monster on die) This means you can tell him where to swim! Move the sea monster the number of spaces shown on the doom die (2, 3, or 4). The sea monster must obey the Sailing Rules of the Seven Seas, except that he can land on a square occupied by another ship and sink it! The sunken ship must drop any treasure it has, and return to its home port empty-handed. If a ship is sunk, return the sea monster to his lair. If he is not lucky enough to sink a ship, he stays on the square he was moved to - ready to strike again! HOLD TIGHT, MATES, IT'S A STORM AT SEA! (Image of Storm on die) The sailor who rolls this may use the storm to blow any other sailor's ship up to the number of spaces shown (3 or 4). The Sailing Rules of the Seven Seas apply here, but you can blow a fellow buccaneer's ship over a reef so that he loses his treasure! A ship in port cannot be moved by the storm. HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A REAL PIRATE! (Image of Pirate on die) The player who rolls the Pirate symbol may take one treasure chest from the home port of any other player. If no one has any chests in their home port, you may as well swab the deck, because your turn is over! Pirates who roll the doom die may move fewer spaces than the number shown. Plot your course carefully! So set sail! Treasure awaits anyone with courage enough to sail through the perils and pitfalls of the Seven Seas!
