Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is a first person shooter game devoloped by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. This game is one of, if not, the most anticipated game of all time. Although, I personally do not believe it lives up to the hype.

A decent star wars title. The space combat is well done, and has some variety. Ground combat is nice to look at. This is the best Star Wars game I have ever played(and i have played a lot). The cinematic mode is awesome, and though ground battles are a bit long. So with all the hype and after playing the demo I was still a little unsure and was bracing myself for mediocre game.

Getting Started

The Main Menu
When you first begin the game, you find yourself at the Main menu. Here you have six different options. Lets take a look at each in turn.
Menu Option Tutorial Single Player Multiplayer Load Game Options Exit Game
GALACTIC COMMAND TRAINING
Description This launches eight training missions that teach you the basics of the game. This leads to another menu where you can select to begin a New Campaign, play a Galactic Conquest mission, or play a Skirmish battle. This allows you to host or join a game over a LAN or the Internet. If you have previously saved a game, select this to rejoin the action where you left off. Here you can edit both audio and video settings, set up network settings for multiplayer games, configure keyboard hot keys, and adjust settings for gameplay. This is the escape pod back to the real world. Use at your own risk.

Types of Games

Star Wars: Empire at War offers several different types of games. This is much more than a standard real-time strategy game. It offers both strategic and tactical levels of play. After you play through the tutorials, which are covered in greater detail later in this chapter, you will have learned enough to play each of the various types of games. Following is more information on them.

The Campaigns

With the Forces of Corruption expansion, you can now choose from three different Campaigns: the Rebel Alliance, the Galactic Empire, or the Consortium. The Campaigns feature a story line as you seek to take control of the galaxy as the Rebels or Imperials, or to take control of the criminal underworld as the Consortium. During each Campaign, you must complete certain objectives. These essentially break down the Campaign into a series of linked missions. You play the Campaigns at the strategic level and then fight ground and space battles at the tactical level when you engage the enemy. The Consortium Campaign, the Imperial Campaign, and the Rebel Campaign sections of this guide contain more information for these Campaigns, including complete walkthroughs.

Galactic Conquest

These missions allow you to play both strategic and tactical battles as you try to take control of all the planetary systems in the mission and/or complete other objectives along the way. The Galactic Conquest missions can be small or quite large depending on the number of planetary systems involved. Check out the Single Missions section for more information on these games.
Which side will you choose to play as the Rebellion, Consortium or the Empire?
For those who want to play only a strategic game without having to personally lead their troops in each tactical ground and space battle, you can have the computer auto resolve each battle (you cannot auto resolve campaign missions). However, for this method, the game just considers the strength of each sides army or fleet to determine the winner. The commanders genius is not factored in.

Skirmish Battles

If you just want to play a land or space tactical battle, without having to worry about the strategic level, then you want a Skirmish battle. Unlike the campaigns and Galactic Conquest games, the Skirmish battles let you build units during the course of the battle. You usually start with only a few units and must create an army or fleet while fending off your enemies attacks and also take the battle to them. The Skirmishes section contains additional information on Skirmish battles as well as details on each of the maps.

Tactical Order Buttons

Order Attack Attack Move Guard Description Attack targeted object with selected units. Selected units move to the targeted location, attacking enemies within range along the route. Click this button, then right-click on a friendly unit to command your troops to follow and protect the target. Guarding units will chase enemies only a short distance before returning to the guarded unit. Selected units move to the targeted location, ignoring all enemies along the route. Selected units move to the targeted point on the map. You can continue clicking the map to create a path for the units to follow until waypoint mode is turned off. Cancels any previous orders and stops your troops where they are. The Troops will still engage enemy units within range after stopping.

Move Set Waypoint Stop

Above the advanced movement order buttons is a button with a clapboard on it, like you would see on a movie set. Click on this button to activate the cinematic camera mode. This zooms in on the action and lets you view the battle up close. You cant give orders in this mode, however. Move the mouse to return to the normal view.
Tutorial 01: Basic Land Combat
The best way to learn the game basics is to play through the provided tutorials. Even if you are a veteran of real-time strategy games, its a good idea to play these quick missions to learn the nuances of this particular game. So go ahead and load up the first tutorial.
The tutorials help you learn how to play the game at the strategic level, plus how to command your units during both land and space battles.
Starting with the Galactic View
The tutorial begins at the strategic level with the screen showing several planetary systems in the area. During campaigns and Galactic Conquest games, this is the view that you always begin with. You are a Rebel commander charged with the defense of the Wookiee homeworldKashyyyk. You do not need to produce any units during this mission. In fact, you dont do anything on the galactic view except watch an Imperial invasion force move from Nal Hutta to Kashyyyk, precipitating a battle on the planets surface.
The Empire is sending an army from Nal Hutta to invade Kashyyyk.
Gaining Groundthe Land Battle

BRI EFING

A platoon of Rebel infantry has been dispatched to locate a lost squad that was last seen performing a routine perimeter sweep. Imperial forces have detected the Rebel presence on Kashyyyk. During the course of this mission, you need to gather your troops and defend the Alliance base. At the beginning of the mission, you command a single squad of Rebel soldiers. The tutorial quickly goes over the minimap and special abilities. Then its time to get started. Select the squad of Rebel soldiers by left-clicking on them. Notice that a click selects all five individual soldiers that make up this squad. Rather than giving orders to a single soldier, you give orders to a squad. Information on the selected squad is displayed on the command bar. Here you can view the status of the unit and even activate special unit abilities.

1. Find the missing patrol squad.

N OT E

Depending on the type of infantry squad, you may have different numbers of troops in a squad at full strength. However, as they take damage during combat, squads can be whittled down to a single soldier. The location your squad must move to is indicated on the minimap by a green bulls-eye marker. To order your selected squad to move to this point, either right-click on the marker on the minimap, or right-click on the map. The location is to the southeast. To scroll the map, either use the arrow keys or move the cursor to the screens right edge. When you scroll to the objective location, you see blue arrows pointing to the location on the game window. Move your squad to this position.

The defender during a ground battle not only has the units already positioned on the planets, but also has garrison units provided by structures. For example, barracks provide additional infantry. When the garrison unit is destroyed, another spawns at the structure. Therefore, its a good idea to build barracks and vehicle factories on those planets bordering the enemy. This only applies to Campaign and Galactic Conquest gamesnot Skirmishes.

Invading a Planet

When landing a force on the surface of a planet to take control of system, you are often at an initial disadvantage. You can only bring down as many units as the reinforcement point allows. Therefore, you must land as many units as possible and then send them to capture other reinforcement points to increase your unit capacity and bring even more units into battle. However, before leaving your landing zone, take control of any nearby build pads and construct turrets to defend this location while you advance on other reinforcement points. As you move out, look Take out power generators before for build pads along your way. You can see the pads even through rushing in to attack an enemy base. the fog of war. However, you cant tell if there is a turret or other structure on them until you come into sight range. Engage turrets with the right type of unit. Use vehicles to take out anti-infantry turrets and infantry for anti-vehicle turrets. Bombing runs (if you have them in orbit) or artillery units (if youve purchased them) work even better. However, dont try to rush past a turret or you will take unnecessary damage. Instead, destroy it and then take control of the build pad and construct your own turret or other structure. You do not have to take control of all reinforcement points. Some may be too difficult or dangerous to get to initially. Therefore, get the easiest ones first and make do with the units you can get. Next, go after the power generator if the enemy has turbolaser towers or a shield generator. Locate this with fast units that can quickly move about the battlefield. Then either call in a bombing run or bring forward some units to attack the power generator. This makes the attack on the enemy base much easier. As you advance, take time to build turrets on build pads.

Urai Fenn
Tyber Zanns second in command, Urai Fenn is a wise and ancient warrior who prefers the art of hand-to-hand combat.
Unit Type: Ground Hero Special: Sonic Stunner (Land), Cloak (Land), Purchase Black Market Technology (Galactic) Good Against: Infantry, Light Vehicles Vulnerable To: Artillery, Tanks
Urai Fenn is a powerful hero. With his two massive blades, he can slash through infantry like he is cutting grass. In addition, his blades go right through shields and cause physical damage to vehicles without having to drain their shields first. Like Tyber Zann, Fenn can cloak to move about the battlefield undetected. His sonic stunner ability stuns all nearby infantry for a short time, preventing them from firing during the effect. If that were not enough to make Fenn a great hero, he also slowly regenerates health on his own.
Devious, cunning, and dangerous, Silri is a dark Forcewielding Nightsister.
Unit Type: Ground Hero Special: Drain Life (Land), Summon Rancor (Land), Purchase Black Market Technology (Galactic) Good Against: Infantry Vulnerable To: Artillery, Tanks
Silri is armed with a lightwhip and is very good at taking on enemy infantry. If she needs some help, she can summon a rancor for additional destruction. If Silris health starts decreasing, she can use her drain life ability to steal health from nearby enemy infantry unitsincreasing her health while that of her enemies decreases.

Corellian Corvette

The Corellian corvette is a multipurpose ship produced by the Corellian Engineering Corporation for a wide variety of tasks, including passenger transport, cargo shipment, and military service. However, because the ships are fast, well-armed, and durable, the Rebel Alliance has a strong affinity for the vessels. The starships are commonly used as blockade runners because they can easily circumvent most obstacles. The Corellian corvette is armed with laser cannons and over-sized drive engines for a ship of its scale. The engines can supply a large burst of power, boosting the ships speed for a time and allowing the vessel to avoid a blockade or quickly enter a fight.

Primary Manufacturer: Corellian Engineering Corporation Unit Type: Corvette Special: Boost Engine Power Good Against: TIE Fighters, TIE Bombers, Pirate Fighters Vulnerable To: Acclamator Cruisers, Victory-Class Star Destroyers, Imperial Star Destroyers
The Corellian corvette is a fighter and bomber killer. It is essentially eight laser cannons attached to a large engine. When fighting against an enemy fleet, keep your corvettes close to your capital ships or space station to deal with enemy fighters and bombers, or use them to pursue and destroy fighters. Corvettes are also useful for taking out orbital defenses and making hit-and-run attacks. Move in and fire, then when your shields are nearly depleted, boost engine power and get away to let your shields recharge so you can repeat the tactic again. Corvettes work best in groups of four or five where their combined firepower can quickly destroy a single target before it can cause much damage in return.

Aeten II

Located in the Outer Rim and plagued by volcanic activity, Aeten II is known for its deposits of rare stygium crystals, which are used in the construction of cloaking devices. Because stygium crystals are extremely valuable, a number of unscrupulous prospectors descended upon Aeten II, where they competed for the rare crystals with deadly abandon. As a result, Aeten II became one of the most dangerous planets in the Outer Rim territories. By the rise of the Empire, Aeten IIs cache of crystals had been all but depleted, making the manufacture of new stygium-based cloaking devices a near impossibility. Prospectors looking to retool old mining facilities here have since found other valuable resources to mine.
Climate: Volcanic Terrain: Lava rivers, volcanoes Average Weather: Hot, ash fall Diameter: 4,900 km Sentient Species: Human Population: 18,490 Wildlife: None System/Star: Aeten Tactical Information: Additional income is provided by mining facilities located throughout the planet.

Intimidate Governor Koong Eeth

O B J E CT I V E S

1. Urai Fenn must survive. 2. Find Governor Koong Eeth.

Governor

For this mission, you do not have much of a force. In addition to Urai Fenn, you have three mercenary assault squads and a couple defilers. This does not allow you to fight through to your target in Stun the infantry guarding the the northeast. Therefore, you have to use stealth. Send a mercenary governor, then go after your target. squad east from your starting position in the west to locate the enemies. Then move Urai forward and activate his cloaking ability so he can move right past the enemy. It starts to wear off as you get to the eastern part of the map. There are lots of infantry between Urai and the governor, so use his sonic stunner to disable them temporarilythen attack the governor. Once you defeat him, the mission ends and Saleucamis corruption is completed.

GALACTIC CONQUEST

Gateways

Conditions

Planets Tech Level Initial Credits 8,000
Gateways is another mission where you must completely wipe out the other two factions to win. Defense is a bit easer in the beginning because each faction has only two or three planets that border the other two. However, these gateway planets also allow your enemies to build up their defenses on the frontier.

Rebel Tips

Bespin, Bothawui, and Tatooine are your border planets. By expanding to Byss, Kuat, and Honoghr, you can expand and still maintain a three-planet border. Just move your defenses up to the front line and expand evenly so as not to stretch your border too thin to defend.

Imperial Tips

Byss and Anaxes are the only two Imperial border planets, giving them an early advantage and allowing them to build up fleets and space stations at those two locations before going on the offensive. The Consortium usually begins corrupting the Empire, so be sure to use the Emperor to remove corruption from your planets.

Consortium Tips

Myrkr, Kuat, and Honoghr are the Consortium border planets. Build up space stations at each as you begin corrupting the enemy controlled planets in the galaxy. Set up black markets as soon as possible so you can purchase new technology to use against your enemies.

Brandeis University Web Style Guide Associated Press Style
Text on Brandeis University Web sites should follow the grammar, punctuation and spelling rules outlined in the Associated Press Stylebook. The Office of Communications recommends that you purchase the latest edition of the AP Stylebook at www.apstylebook.com.

Quick Reference Numbers

Spell out the numbers one through nine. Use Arabic numerals for 10 and up. Always use Arabic numerals for ages and percentages, even for numbers less than 10. Spell out numbers that start a sentence. If the result is awkward, re-work the sentence: Seventy-five students attended the symposium yesterday. Yesterday, 635 seniors were awarded degrees. The exception to this rule is a sentence that begins with a calendar year: 2007 was a record-breaking year for fundraising. Use Roman numerals for wars, monarchs and Popes: World War II, King George VI, Pope John XXIII In the case of proper names, use words or numerals according to the organizations practice: 3M, Twentieth Century Fund, Big Ten

Abbreviations

Academic Degrees Avoid abbreviations: Jehuda Reinharz, who has a doctorate in modern Jewish history Use an apostrophe in bachelors degree, masters degree, etc. There is no apostrophe in Bachelor of Arts or Master of Science. Use abbreviations such as B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. only when the need to identify many people by degree on first reference would make the preferred method cumbersome; use the abbreviations only after a full name and set the abbreviations off with commas: Dorothee Kern, Ph.D., delivered a lecture on enzymes. Dates Always use Arabic figures, without st, nd, rd or th. When a month is used with a specific date, abbreviate only Jan., Feb., Aug., Sept., Oct., Nov. and Dec.: Fall Open House will be held on Oct. 8. When a phrase lists only a month and year, do not separate the month and the year with commas: The new Web site will launch in December 2007. When a phrase refers to a month, day and year, set off the year with commas: Jan. 15 2008, was the first day of the semester. Time Use figures except for noon and midnight Use a colon to separate hours from minutes: 3:30 p.m. 4 oclock is acceptable, but time listings with a.m. or p.m. (with periods) are preferred
United States As a noun, use United States: Brandeis is one of the youngest private research universities in the United States. As an adjective, use U.S. (no spaces): A U.S. senator will speak at Brandeis tomorrow. States Spell out the names of the states when they appear alone: The governor of Massachusetts was re-elected. Abbreviate the names of states when they appear with the name of a city, town, village or military base: Waltham, Mass., Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. Do not abbreviate Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Ohio, Texas or Utah Use the following state abbreviations: Ala. Ariz. Ark. Calif. Colo. Conn. Del. Fla. Ga. Ill. Ind. Kan. Ky. La. Md. Mass. Mich. Minn. Miss. Mo. Mont. Neb. Nev. N.H. N.J. N.M. N.Y. N.C. N. D. Okla. Ore. Pa. R.I. S.C. S.D. Tenn. Vt. Va. Wash. W.Va. Wis. Wyo.

Punctuation

Apostrophe For plural nouns ending in s, add only an apostrophe: the students' grades, states' rights For singular common nouns ending in s, add 's: the hostess's invitation, the witness's answer For singular proper names ending in s, use only an apostrophe: Brandeis mission For singular proper names ending in s sounds such as x, ce, and z, use 's: Marx's theories For plurals of a single letter, add 's: She received all A's this semester. Do not use 's for plurals of numbers or multiple letter combinations: the 1960s, USEMs Colon Capitalize the first word after a colon only if it is a proper noun or the start of a complete sentence: She promised this: The team will go to nationals this year. But: There were three issues with the project: expense, time and feasibility. Colons go outside quotation marks unless they are part of the quoted material. Comma Do not put a comma before the conjunction in a simple series: Boston, Newton, Cambridge and Lexington Use a comma to set off a person's hometown and age: John Smith, Newton, was accepted to Brandeis. Jane Smith, 22, graduated yesterday.
Hyphen Use a hyphen for compound adjectives before the noun: well-known student, full-time job, 20-year sentence Do not use a hyphen when the compound modifier occurs after the verb: The student was well known. Her job became full time. He was sentenced to 20 years. Parentheses The temptation to use parentheses is a clue that a sentence is becoming contorted. Try to rewrite the sentence, putting the incidental information between commas or dashes, or in a separate sentence. If you must use parentheses, follow these punctuation guidelines: Place a period outside a closing parenthesis if the material inside is not a sentence (such as this fragment). If the material is an independent complete sentence, place the period inside the parentheses. Period Use a single space after the period at the end of a sentence. Do not put a space between initials: C.S. Lewis; J.K. Rowling. Quotation marks In dialogue, each persons words are placed in a separate paragraph, with quotation marks at the beginning and end of each persons speech. Periods and commas always go within quotation marks. Dashes, semicolons, question marks and exclamation points go within the quotation marks when they apply to the quoted material. They go outside when they apply to the whole sentence. Use single marks for quotes within quotes: Smith said, "She told me, I wish I had been accepted to Brandeis.'"

Titles

Titles of academic courses: - Do not italicize course titles or put quotation marks around them. Titles of books, computer games, movies, operas, plays, poems, albums, songs, radio and television programs, lectures, speeches and works of art: - Capitalize the principal words, including prepositions and conjunctions of four or more letters - Put quotation marks around all such works except the Bible and books that are primarily catalogs of reference material: The Star-Spangled Banner, Gone With the Wind, NBCs Today Show, Encyclopedia Britannica - Translate a foreign title into English, unless the American public knows the work by its foreign name: Rousseaus War, not Rousseaus La Guerre. BUT: Leonardo da Vincis Mona Lisa.
