Huge, lavishly detailed world offers tremendous amount of action and adventure Main mechanics like combat, stealth. the elder scrolls 4 oblivion is THE ultimate rpg to ever be released for the xbox 360 Oblivion is probably my favorite RPG, which is no surprise. The best part of the game is the NPC action.

CHARACTER CREATION

If youre planning to go on Oblivions main quest, youll need a character that can handle it. Several battles will involve pitched infantry combat, which certain builds simply arent very good at; while there are ways to compensate, its easy to get in over your head. For example, if youre planning to play a stealthbased character or a bow specialist, consider picking up Conjuration, so you can whistle up a few zombies or monsters as backup, or Blade, so you can defend yourself adequately once somebody closes to melee. Its also worthy to note that Oblivions main quest seems to be designed with the assumption that you will take it seriously and accomplish it as soon as you can. Its simply challenging if you undertake it as a rst-level character, but if you put it off until later, youll quickly regret it. With Oblivions approach to level-scaling, some of the later battles become utterly lethal for a high-level character, as they involve hordes and hordes of monsters. If its a bunch of Scamps or Dremora peons, its no big deal whatever level youre at, but a bunch of conjurers and magic-wielding warriors will tear through you in no time at. Thus, if you intend to do the main quest at all, do it ASAP; thisll also have the happy side effect of giving you the high Fame rating you need to take on some of the other quests. For a newcomer to the game, we recommend playing a Redguard; Adrenaline Rush is arguably the best combat buff in the game, and their Resist Disease/Poison abilities come in handy. A strong melee class with stealth or magic as a fallback seems to be the most balanced, best way to make it through the game; if you dont have Security, get Alteration, and if you dont have Sneak, get Illusion. Our character for this walkthrough was a Redguard Adventurer, born under the sign of the Warrior, with specializations in Blade, Marksman,
Sneak, Alteration, Restoration, Heavy Armor and Block; we spent most of the game dispatching enemies with stealthy violence, and the Blade prociency let us hold our own once melee broke out. Alteration spells can be used to open locked doors and chests. (Tip: Dont fear the slider. Dont be afraid to turn down the difculty if you start running into problems. Oblivions default difculty seems to assume youre playing a high-strength melee tank, so if you arent, you can get in over your head very quickly.)

the sewers, and conscate Renaults katana if you took it. Defeat a few more rats and goblins, and youll be home free, at a sewer exit just north of the Imperial City. Its not a bad idea to stop by the City for a bit, to sell off any valuables you gathered, repair and upgrade your equipment and join the Thieves Guild if you intend to make a career out of larceny. (Theyll approach you if you do any prison time.) Once youve done all that, its time to head west. DELIVER THE AMULET Weynon Priory isnt hard to nd; its right outside Chorrol. Jauffre, the man youre here to see, is usually inside the Weynon House. Give him the Amulet, and hell tell you to go talk to Martin, the priest of Akatosh in Kvatch, a good ways south of here. If you ask Jauffre for Assistance, hell allow you to take the weapons and armor out of the treasure chest in his study. His fellow monks will give you a horse and a book thatll raise your Block skill when you read it. FIND THE HEIR Whether you head overland or take the road to Kvatch, youll run into quite a few bandit camps along the way. Be on your guard. Unfortunately, as is the way of such things, youll arrive just in time to watch Kvatch burn. Two of the women in the refugee encampment can sell you potions or repair your equipment, but once youre set, go up to just outside the city and talk to Savlian Matius. It looks like Oblivions
managed to destroy Kvatch. You can get into the city and see Martin without shutting the Oblivion Gate, but hell refuse to leave until the gates shut and the citys no longer in danger. It looks like youll have to play hero. Monsters and You At low levels, youll ght expendable daedra like Clanfear Runts, Stunted Scamps, and wussy Dremora ghters. As you level up, they will too; youll start running into full-grown Clanfear, Scamps, annoying Flame Atronach, and increasingly potent Dremora conjurers. Sadly, NPC backup such as the Kvatch town guard do not level up, and as such, will drop like ies against high-level daedra. This is yet another reason to get the main quest over with early. Enter the Oblivion Gate, and youll wind up in a land of lava and blasted black plains. As you might expect, anything that goes into the lava is as good as dead, so avoid this. Youll also need to avoid the Harrada roots, which lash out at anything that gets close; Spiddal plants, which erupt in clouds of poison gas; and the small spiny growths on the ground, which are pretty much land mines. You can detonate the latter early by shooting them with a bow, but youll simply have to avoid the fauna. Save the surviving guard near the entrance, then bring him with you or dispatch him back to Kvatch as you see t. Youve got bigger problems. Tip for level-scaling: at low levels, Oblivion is full of stuff like Stunted Scampis and low-level Dremora ghters. If you reach this area as a higher-level character, youll wind up ghting a lot of re andronach, full-blown Scamps, Dremora conjurers and powerful Dremora warriors. The overwhelming theme, whatever level you are, is lots of re ying directly at your face. Pack accordingly. Youll also want to bring plenty of Repair Hammers, naturally. Cross the bridge to the War Gate. You cant open it at the moment; instead, climb the hill nearby and enter the base of the tower: the Blood Well. The ominously-named Corpse Masher is an elevator thatll take you up to the bottom of the ramp; climb it to the top of the tower. The Blood Fountain will heal your wounds, and you can use a lever nearby to open a gate. Go back down to the back of the tower, careful to leap off the Corpse Masher before it hits the spikes on the oor, and work your way northeast to nd the door to the Blood Feast. Take out the high population of enemies on the ground oor, then head through the Rending Halls. Work your way up through the Corridors of Dark Salvation, and when you nd a door that cannot be opened, head outside and across the bridge. Dispatch the Dremora Sigil Keeper at the top of the next tower to get a special key, then talk to his captive for a clue as to what to do next. Using his key, ght your way to the top of the Blood Feast tower and take the Sigil Stone out of the pillar of light on the topmost level. This will automatically trigger the appearance of more enemies, but will eventually transport you back to Kvatch and close the Oblivion gate. (Note: Whenever you close an Oblivion Gate, youll do it the same way: by ghting to the top of the central tower and swiping its Sigil Stone. Any character can use these Stones to enchant an item of armor or apparel, usually with a stat-boosting effect. Thus, its worth your while to close any Oblivion Gate you happen across.) BREAKING THE SIEGE AT KVATCH You dont have to do this right now. Once the Oblivion Gate closes, Martin will leave the temple and go to the refugee camp, where you can talk to him to continue the story. Talk to Matius, and hell ask your help clearing out the southern plaza. Go in there and kill everything you see, then talk to him again and go into the chapel. Nows a good time to fast-travel back to the Imperial City or some other location and repair your equipment. When youre done, return to Matius and tell him youre ready. After dispatching a couple of goons in the northern plaza, hell ask you to get into the castle via the North Guard House. Go back into the chapel of Akatosh, and youll receive some backup from a couple of Imperial Legion Soldiers. Talk to the guardsman and hell show you into the chapels undercroft. Fight your way through a few more enemies there, and then into the guardhouse. After the guard opens the underground passage for you - or after you take the key from his dead body and use it to open that passage youll be able to open the castle gates. Just try to stay alive after the ensuing melee, and save your strength for the battles in the castle proper. This place is full of loot, like silver dishware, but its also got stronger enemies; our Adventurer was level 4 and wound up facing off against quite a few Scamps, while our luckless level-17 Thief wound up dealing with a bunch of huge, highlevel Clanfear. (Think Jurassic Park.)

since it happens to be one of the best nonmagical weapons in the game, you denitely want one. You can also grab the Blades armor from the west wing armory. The Blades Shield and Blades Greaves are particularly nice. THE PATH OF DAWN Now its time to head back to the Imperial City. Head to Luther Broads Boarding House in the Elven Gardens district, have a seat at the bar, and have a remarkably civil conversation with Baurus. Hell ask you to tail his tail, so to speak; when he gets up, hell lead the guy following him into the boarding houses basement. Help Baurus whack the guy, and take the book he was so intent upon. Take that book to Tar-Meena at the Arcane University. Shell give you the second volume of the set, and encourage you to go to First Edition in the Market District. The proprietors already sold volume three to another customer, Gwinas; you can use high Speechcraft to fasttalk him into selling it to you anyway, or mug Gwinas for it once hes paid. The nonviolent, noncriminal way to do this is to tail Gwinas back to the Tiber Septim Inn in Talos

press their attack. The best way to deal with them is to launch an arrow at them from concealment, which will often drop them in one hit. This is why coming in here like an invading army isnt such a big deal for a stealthy ghter-type, as with enough arrows, you can skulk through here and kill everyone without a problem. Drop the doorkeeper and take the Shrine of Dagon Key off of his corpse. Enter, and its just a short jaunt south to nd the door to the shrine itself. Get close and listen in on the sermon in progress, and youll nd out the Amulets already gone. That leads quite naturally to your next move: abscond with the Mysterium Xerxes, the book on Ruma Corcorans podium. Perform a few judicious assassinations from the shadows above the shrine; Rumas packing a mystical staff that could put a hurting on you if shes allowed to bring it into play. Grab the book, watch out for the subsequently collapsing statue, and get the hell out of here. Youll have to go the long way around, through the Dawns living quarters and mess hall, but carving up another dozen acolytes shouldnt be a problem. Return to Cloud Ruler Temple. If Baurus survived the ght in the Imperial City, hell show you a few tricks, raising your Blade, Block and Heavy Armor skills. Now, talk to Martin, then go outside and ask Jauffre about spies. SPIES Jauffre will send you to Bruma to talk to the guard captain, Burd. Hes
usually in the castles barracks, and hes not much help. Hell tell you to talk to Jearl, who has a house in town; problematically, Jearl and her buddy Saveri are the spies. If you break into Jearls house, theyll instantly attack you; alternatively, you can lurk in ambush for them at the runestone Jauffre mentioned, which is at the base of the path leading up to Cloud Ruler Temple. Either way, search Jearls body for the Basement Key. That key opens the trapdoor in the oor. Go downstairs and read Jearls Orders, which are lying on the desk. Take them and go see Jauffre again. BLOOD OF THE DAEDRA Hell direct you to Martin, who needs a daedric artifact to proceed with the ritual. Go nd the book Modern Heretics in the temple library. Reading it will direct you to Azuras Shrine, north of Lake Arrius. Go there and persuade Mels Maryon to tell you what must be done to summon Azura. Youll need to leave her an offering of glow dust, which can be obtained by killing will o the wisps, or by buying it at the Main Ingredient in the Imperial City Market District. Offer Azura the dust around 5:30 PM, and shell send you on a quest to kill the ve vampiric inhabitants of the Gutted Mine, a short distance to the southwest. Take them out, and grab the Worn, Faded Note off the ringleaders body, then return to Azuras shrine. Activate it, and shell give you Azuras Star. (Note: Martin just needs a daedric artifact, and not

necessarily Azuras Star. Any shrine you nd will have a similar quest for you, with a similar reward, and any one of the items you get will serve Martins purposes. Azuras Star is simply the most convenient of your available options; however, as its a reusable soul gem, its also very useful for a character whos reliant on magical items or skilled in Mysticism.) Return to Cloud Ruler Temple and give Azuras Star to Martin. Hell tell you to talk to Jauffre, who in turn will inform you of the hilarity ensuing outside Bruma. Youve got another Oblivion gate to close. BRUMA GATE Go to Bruma and talk to Burd, whos waiting outside Brumas east entrance. At least this time, youll have some backup. Fight your way to the center of this plane of Oblivion and climb the tower, just as you did before; the key to the sigil room is being carried by the Sigil Keeper, a sword-waving Dremora whos standing right in front of the door. To accomplish this mission, Burd must be next to you as you grab the sigil stone. Report back to Martin and Jauffre. Jauffre wants you to search out the rulers of the other cities of Cyrodill and enlist their aid; Martin needs the Armor of Tiber Septim. Lets handle the latter rst. BLOOD OF THE DIVINES The Armor is in Sancre Tor, a ruined fort a long hike north of Chorrol. Its inhabited by a lot of ghosts, so stock up on silver or magical equipment
before you go. The rst skeleton you run into inside the fort itself is a tougher-than-usual Undead Blade, wholl appear as a spectre upon the skeletons destruction. Itll inform you of one of your goals while youre in here: destroy all four Undead Blades so that they may help you out. Going in a semblance of order: sneak into the Prison and destroy the skeleton of the Warden so you can take his key. One of the Undead Blades is prowling at the back of the prison; destroy him and backtrack. Casnars ghost is in the Hall of Judgment, near the back. Pass back through the Hall to reach the Catacombs, where youll run into the nal ghost almost immediately, and then go to the sealed sanctum. The four ghostly Blades will break the seal on the shrine, allowing you to claim the Armor of Tiber Septim. Give that to Martin for yet another fetch quest. MISCARCAND This time, youre headed to Miscarcand, an ancient Ayleid city thats just north of Rasava Camp, along the road to Kvatch. The fun part of this dungeons that its infested with goblins and undead, neither of which particularly enjoy the others company. You can often just let them ght it out, then mop up the survivors. Aside from that, this dungeons initially straightforward. Theres really only one way you can go; when you reach the bridge overlooking the throne room, re a couple of arrows to turn the locals against each other, then drop down into a quiet corner and invade goblin territory. Hit the push block in their lair, then go upstairs via the gate you passed earlier and return to the bridge. Once inside Sel Vanua, play it sneaky; the goblins and undead are having a nice little war of their own, and you dont really need to get involved. Once most or all of them are dead, clean up the remainder, hit the push block on the wall and grab the valuable Varla Stone out of the cage in the center of the room. Leave via the only other available doorway, and you can follow this hallway straight, down another bridge overlooking a roomful of feuding goblins and skeletons and to another pushblock. Follow it around, and youll be underneath the bridge you crossed earlier. Take out the trash and go north to nd Morimath. This is nicely straightforward, but make sure youre healed and wielding something thatll put a dent in undead. The moment you take the Great Stone from its resting place, the King of Miscarcand - a spellcasting skeleton - will pop up behind you and attack. It folds fairly easily in melee, but the combination of its Spark spells and its two Guardian Zombie sidekicks can add up to serious pain in a hurry. Bringing this nal bit back to Martin means that all you can do now is wait until the Mythic Dawn springs their attack. You can go recruit more backup from other cities around Cyrodiil now, or let Bruma stand on its own; the more backup you recruit, the better off youll be. ALLIES FOR BRUMA You can go to the rulers of every city in the region, except the Imperial City, and try to get them to commit troops to Brumas defense. With two exceptions, theyll all sing you the same old song: they arent doing anything for Bruma while theres still an open Oblivion Gate close to their borders. Coincidentally, new Oblivion Gates have just opened right next to every city in the region. Funny how that works. Once you close each citys Oblivion Gate, their overjoyed rulers will dispatch a few warriors or archers to see to Brumas defense. For the most part, this is easy work; once youve closed one Oblivion Gate, youve closed them all. There are two exceptions, however. Cheydinhal Gate The counts too worried about his son to commit to anything. Go see Amminus in or around the Knights of the Thorns lodge, and hell tell you about the Knights of the Thorn, who went missing inside the Oblivion Gate. Youll have to either rescue the counts son or conrm that hes dead. Head into the Oblivion Gate and follow the path around; dont drop down. Youll nd a gate to the Bowels; drop through the holes in the oor. Youll emerge onto another Oblivion Realm path, which leads to another run through the Bowels. Farwils waiting on the other side. Your job is now to try to somehow keep him alive - and his body somewhere where you can search it; Farwil has a habit of falling into lava - while you go to claim the sigil stone. The problem with this is that both Farwil and his friend are very aggro and have a habit of running directly into you while youre ghting. Activate the sigil stone, and take either Farwils signet ring or Farwil himself back to his father. If Farwil dies, youll get 150 gold and the signet ring; if Farwil survives, youll be made an honorary Knight of the Thorn. Kvatch Assuming youve retaken the castle, all you have to do is go into the castle proper and talk to the guard captain. Once youve assembled all the forces you can, or all the forces you care to, go speak to the countess of Bruma and meet her and Martin in the Chapel of Talos in Bruma. Tell the countess to let the battle begin whenever youre ready. www.gamesradar.com

the Bands can open, and Eldamil will meet you on the other side. Hell remove the Bands. Move the rest of the way through the Grotto until you reemerge in Paradise, with or without Eldamil. When you do, its just a short walk to the temple where Mankar Camoran is waiting for you, along with his kids Raven and Ruma, regardless of whether you killed them earlier or not. Thankfully, for all his posturing and obvious magical power, Mankars not that bright. Hell sit there and give you his evil villain speech for a while, giving you plenty of time to cast buffs and drink potions. When the ght starts for real, ignore Raven and Ruma; go straight for Mankar. When he drops, so do they, and so does Paradise. Just make sure to take the Amulet of Kings off of Mankars body before everything fades out. LIGHT THE DRAGONFIRES Youre back in Cloud Ruler Temple. Give Martin the Amulet, then rest up and get your equipment repaired. Your next stop is the Imperial City Palace and a talk with Chancellor Ocato whichll turn dangerous pretty quickly. Youve got plenty of backup and you dont have a long way to go; you just need to escort Martin over one screen, into the Temple District. However, youve also got a ton of daedra to deal with and once you nd the Temple of the One, theres Mehrunes Dagon himself, whos effectively invincible. Talk to Martin when Dagon shows up, then charge him and hit him with everything youve got. Spellcasters can throw debuffs combined with powerful electricity or cold spells, while melee types should run up and stab him in the ankles. Youre not out to kill or even injure him; you just want him busy with you for a second so you can get Martin inside the temple. Once you do that, its all over but the shouting. Youve done your job, and when the dust settles, youll be appointed the Champion of Cyrodiil. Talk to Ocato, and hell commission a set of shiny new Imperial Armor for you, which you can stop by and grab in two weeks time. Thats it. Youre a famous hero, but youre also still alive, and youve got plenty left to do. Go out and explore the world you just saved!
walkthrough defense of bruma the great gate paradise light the dragonres
DEFENSE OF BRUMA The more soldiers you have, the better off youll be, because they can mob-rush the monsters thatll pop out of the Oblivion Gates. Your only concern is that Martin Septim survives until the Great Oblivion Gate opens, and the more soldiers thatre on the eld, the better. THE GREAT GATE Once the gate opens, jump in. Now, this is a chase scene. You have 15 minutes to grab the Great Sigil Stone and save the world. Start your run by heading inside the left-hand tower near your entry point, and just follow the red arrows on your map. Itll take you on a circuitous route across the bridges over the daedric siege engine, but dont stop to sightsee. The local defenses will pitch reballs at you when they notice youre outside. When you nd yourself in the tower called the World Breaker Guard, ght through to the top oor and throw the switch there to open the rst gate. When you go back down, use the second-oor exit, a door will open ahead of you; thisll let you reach the second World Breaker Guard tower and hit the switch on its top oor. Head back the way you came and use the newly-opened door on the bridge to open the World Breaker Citadel. This winds up being a lot like the other gates youve closed, but this time, youre on the clock. Dont ght; just run, kill the Sigil Keeper on the top oor, take his key, and use that to open up the sigil room. Finally, take

ESRB CHANGES RATING FOR THE ELDER SCROLLS IV: OBLIVION FROM TEEN TO MATURE Bethesda Softworks to Undertake Immediate Corrective Actions
NEW YORK The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) announced today that it has officially changed the rating assigned to the game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion from T (Teen 13+) to M (Mature 17+) due to the presence of content that was not fully disclosed when the game was originally submitted to ESRB for rating. Bethesda Softworks, the developer and co-publisher of the game, will be taking immediate actions to correct the rating information on all unsold inventory, future shipments and marketing materials. This proactive move to change the rating once again confirms that ESRBs first priority is to ensure that consumers have reliable, accurate information with which to make educated decisions about the games they or their children play, said ESRB president Patricia Vance. The pertinent content causing the change in the ESRB rating involves more detailed depictions of blood and gore than were considered in the original rating of the game (the game already carried a Blood and Gore content descriptor), as well as the presence in the PC version of the game of a locked-out art file that, if accessed by using an apparently unauthorized third party tool, allows the user to play the game with topless versions of female characters. The locked-out topless skin was found by ESRB to exist in a fully rendered form on the game disc, but is not accessible in the Xbox 360 version of the game. Upon confirmation of the presence of the previously undisclosed content through its post-release monitoring and play-testing activities, the ESRB expeditiously conducted an internal investigation and review of the original rating assigned to Oblivion. This process involved ESRB raters evaluating the original video materials submitted to the ESRB by Bethesda Softworks along with the newly disclosed content, resulting in the assignment of an M (Mature) rating. This discrepancy indicated that the intensity of the depictions were more consistent with a Mature rated game than one rated Teen. Among the corrective actions that Bethesda Softworks will be promptly undertaking are: Immediate notification to all retailers of the change in rating, along with a request to adhere to their respective store policies not to sell the newly rated M (Mature) game to those under the age of 17, and explaining how to address consumer concerns; - more -
Issuance of stickers with the new rating information to all retailers and distributors to affix on the packaging of all existing unsold inventory; Display of the newly assigned M (Mature) rating in all future product shipments and marketing materials; Creation and posting of a downloadable patch that will modify the art archive, rendering the topless skin inaccessible on the PC version of the game. Consumers, especially parents, depend on the ESRB ratings each day, and our actions in this instance serve to demonstrate how immensely we value their trust, continued Ms. Vance. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was initially assigned a rating of T (Teen) with content descriptors for Violence, Blood and Gore, Sexual Themes, Language and Use of Alcohol. The game now carries an ESRB rating of M (Mature), and the existing PC version has an additional content descriptor for Nudity. In the near future, Bethesda Softworks intends to release a modified version of the PC game with the topless skin removed, which will not carry the Nudity content descriptor on the package. - 30 About Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is a non-profit, self-regulatory body established in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). ESRB independently assigns ratings, enforces advertising guidelines, and helps ensure responsible online privacy practices for the interactive entertainment software industry.
