1. Where to Use Your GARDENA Accu-Flexible Steerable Mower
Correct use :
The GARDENA flexible steerable mower is designed for cutting lawns in and around the garden. Do not use the mower on a slope steeper than 15 maximum. One Accu charge is sufficient for up to 30 min. operation / a lawn area of 300 m2. For increased capacity, a further Accu-Pack can be ordered from GARDENA Service (see 9. Accessories Available). To prevent injury, the flexible steerable mower must not be used for trimming bushes, hedges, shrubs, for cutting and pruning of climbers or grass on roofs or in balcony boxes. In addition, the flexible steerable mower must not be used for chopping up branches, twigs or for levelling irregularities in the soil.
Please note
2. Safety instructions
V Please read the notes on safety on the flexible steerable mower. V Please read the operating instructions before using the mower ! Danger ! Risk of injury ! V Keep bystanders away !
Danger ! Sharp blades ! V Remove the safety key before undertaking any maintenance work.
Check each time you use the mower :
Inspect the mower each time before you use it. Do not use the mower if the safety devices (switch handle, safety key, start button, housing, grass box) and / or the cutting mechanism are damaged or worn. Replace damaged or worn parts. Never disable safety devices. Check the lawn area before starting work. Remove any foreign bodies present (e. g. stones, branches). Check the cutting tool for damage regularly and have it professionally repaired if necessary.
Interruptions of work : Never leave the flexible steerable mower unattended at the working area. If you interrupt your work store the unit in a safe place. Remove safety key ! If you stop work to move to another area of the garden, release the switch handle and remove the safety key from the charging socket. Environmental influences : Only work when visibility is good. Familiarise yourself with the surroundings of your working area. Check for possible risks which might be not audible due to the noise of the machine. Make sure that there are no other people (especially children) or animals anywhere near the working area. The user is responsible for any damage caused. If, despite taking precautions, you strike an object when working or the mower starts to vibrate vigorously, release the switch handle, take out the safety key and remove the obstruction. Check the mower for damage and have it repaired if necessary. Please observe any local restrictions on noise levels. Electric Security : Danger ! Risk of injury ! V To prevent injuries, never start the motor when the mower is tipped.
Only insert the safety key in the charging socket when ready to start work. Do not use the flexible steerable mower if it is raining or in moist, wet conditions.
Operation :
Danger ! Risk of injury ! This flexible steerable mower can cause serious injuries ! You are responsible for the safety of the working area. Do not tilt the mower on its side whilst using it. Never lift or carry the mower with the motor running. Only use the flexible steerable mower for the purposes specified in these instructions. Wear sturdy shoes and long trousers to protect your legs. Keep your fingers and feet away from the cutting tool and the cutting channel! Make sure you always take up a safe and stable stance whilst working, especially on slopes. Always mow across a slope, never up or down it. Be particularly careful if you change direction on a slope. Do not mow excessively steep slopes. Be careful when going backwards. Risk of stumbling! Look out for foreign bodies when working (e. g. stones). Do not let the handle fall forwards freely when folding it up. 14
Accu Security : Danger ! Short-circuit fire risk !
V Contacts should never be bridged with metal ! Danger of fire ! Never charge the Accu anywhere near acids and easily inflammable materials. Danger of explosion ! Do not set fire to a used Accu under any circumstances. Only charge the Accu with the charger supplied ! Using other charging units could lead to damage and injury.
Do not charge the Accu if it has been operating at a relatively high temperature or has been exposed to sunlight. Allow it to cool down first. Do not expose the charger to moisture. Using a charger other than the GARDENA charger supplied releases GARDENA from all liability and warranty claims.
The Accu should only be charged in a dry place. Never expose the Accu to direct sunlight when charging it. Only use the Accu for the Flexible Steerable Mower. The mower cannot be switched on with the charging plug connected. Protect the charging socket from dirt and moisture.

DANGER ! Cutting tool can cause injuries ! V Wait until the cutting mechanism is stationary before undertaking any adjustment work, put on suitable work gloves and remove the safety key.
Risk of injury if the Flexible Steerable Mower does not switch off automatically ! V Do not remove or bypass safety devices on the Flexible Steerable Mower (e.g. by tying the switch handle to the steering wheel) !
G F D E
1. 2. 3. 4.
Danger ! Cutting mechanism continues to rotate after switching off ! V Never lift, tilt or carry the Flexible Steerable Mower with the motor running ! V Never start the mower on a paved surface (e.g. asphalt). V Always maintain the safety distance set by the guide handles between the cutting tool and the user.
Place the Flexible Steerable Mower on a flat area of lawn. Open key flap A. Insert safety key B in the charging socket C. Keep the start button D pressed and draw switch handle E towards the steering wheel F. The mower will start and the charge level indicator G will be illuminated for 10 seconds. 5. Release the start button D. 6. Guide the mower forwards at walking pace. If the red LED ( Accu flat) flashes, the motor will switch off and the Accu must be charged (see 7. Maintenance). The Accu cover must always be kept closed during mowing. The Accu becomes warm when using the Flexible Steerable Mower. This is normal and does not impair its performance.
Charge display : green LED Accu fully charged yellow LED Accu half charged red LED Accu flat
Blockage protection : If the cylinder mower is blocked by a foreign body or the motor is overloaded (red Error-LED flashes), the motor is automatically switched off by the blockage protection. Remove Safety Key from socket, remove foreign body or rectify the cause of the overloading and restart the mower after a few seconds. Discharge protection : The mower switches off automatically as soon as the capacity of the Accu has been exhausted (Error LED is illuminated = voltage too low). We recommend recharging the battery straight away. Note : The Flexible Steerable Mower is protected from being switched on accidentally by removing the Safety Key 1. Release switch handle E. 2. Remove safety key B each time work is interrupted.
Error :
Error LED flashes Error LED is illuminated Blockage protection Voltage too low
Switching off the Mower :
Adjusting the swivelling handle :
1. Press both push-buttons F simultaneously and lift up the upper part of the handle H. 2. Open clamping lever I. 3. Draw out upper part of handle H to the length required. 4. Close clamping lever I again. For safety reasons, once the upper part of the handle has been drawn out, it can no longer be pushed together to its original position.
The clamping force can be adjusted via the nut J. If the clamping effect decreases, open the clamping lever and turn the knurled nut clockwise (e.g. with pliers). The cutting height can be adjusted from 2.0 to 6.5 cm in 1.5 cm stages (4 positions). v Unscrew wheels 4 by hand and screw back in firmly at the cutting height required. All 4 wheels 4 must always be screwed in at the same cutting S height (see scale z on the back of the wheel mounting).
Adjusting the cutting height :
Mowing on a slope:
To prevent sliding sideways on a slope, the front wheels and the steering wheel must be locked in the straight ahead position before using the mower on the slope.
Do not use the mower on a slope steeper than 15 maximum. 1. Turn both red swivel wheel locks of travel).
K by 90 (groove in direction
2. Bring front wheels 4 into straight ahead position until the lock K engages. The wheels are now locked in the straight ahead position. 17
3. Lift steering wheel lock
L upwards.
4. Bring steering wheel F into the straight ahead position until the lock engages. The steering wheel is now locked in the straight ahead position. After mowing on the slope has been completed, the front wheels and the steering wheel can be unlocked again by turning the running wheel locks K by 90 and folding the steering wheel lock L downwards. When mowing on slopes, mow in lines across the slope.
Mowing with the grass box :
The grass box must be emptied as soon as grass is left lying on the lawn.
DANGER ! Foreign bodies thrown out of the mower can cause injuries ! V Only lift protective flap with the motor switched off and the cutting blade stationary.
TIP : If the handle is tilted to the side, it is easier to empty the grass box.
Mowing without the grass box :
M and remove grass box 6 by the handle. 2. Empty the grass box 6 and hang it on the back again using the mounting hook N on the casing.
1. Lift protective flap
Danger ! Risk of injury ! V Do not put your hand in the discharge opening.
When the protective flap M is released, this closes automatically and covers the discharge opening. The protective flap M is arranged in such a way that it is still possible to mow with the protective flap closed but without a grass box. The cut grass is then discharged onto the lawn.
Mowing tips :
If grass residue is left in the discharge opening, pull mower backwards about 1 m so that the grass residue can drop out downwards. To produce a well-maintained lawn, we recommend cutting the lawn regularly, once a week if possible. The lawn becomes thicker if cut frequently. After relatively long intervals between mowing (holiday lawn), first of all cut in one direction with the cutting height as high as possible, then cut in the crosswise direction at the cutting height required. If possible, only cut the grass when it is dry, if the grass is damp, the cutting pattern will be uneven.
6. Storage
Storing / transporting the mower :
1. Remove safety key. 2. Clean mower before storage and connect to the charger (see 7. Maintenance). 3. Store mower in a dry, frostproof but cool place out of reach of children. TIP : To save space the grass box can be placed on top of the folded up mower. If the mower is not stored connected constantly to the charger, the Accu must be charged at least every six months because it self-discharges. Self-discharging is reduced at low storage temperatures.
Disposal :
(in accordance with RL 2002 / 96 / EC)
The product must not be added to normal household waste. It must be disposed of properly.
Disposing of the Accu :
The Accu contains lead cells. After their lifetime has expired, they must not be disposed of as normal household rubbish, but must be disposed of properly. Please dispose of the flat Accu via your local municipal disposal point. It is essential to return the Accu to a GARDENA dealership or to dispose of it via your your local municipal disposal point. Only hand over the Accu in a discharged condition.
7. Maintenance
DANGER ! Cutting tool can cause injuries ! V When undertaking maintenance, remove the safety key, wait for the cutting mechanism to stop and put on suitable work gloves. DANGER ! Injury to persons and damage to property ! V Do not clean mower under running water (especially at high pressure). V Do not use solvents, petrol or abrasive agents to clean the mower.
Clean the underside of the mower casing :
Deposits make the starting process difficult, impair the quality of the cut and the discharge of the grass. Dirt and grass residues are easiest to remove immediately after mowing. 1. Lock steering wheel in the straight ahead position (see 5. Operation Mowing on a slope :). 2. Lay mower on its side carefully and remove grass deposits (do not use sharp objects). v Remove grass deposits inside and outside the grass box (do not use sharp objects).
Cleaning the grass box :
Charging the Accu in the mower :
The Accu can be charged inside the mower or separately. We recommend charging the Accu with the charger provided immediately after using the mower (the Accu cannot be overcharged). To ensure that the Accu is always fully charged, the Accu should be charged continuously using the charger when not in use.

The charge status display G goes on for just 10 seconds when the mower is started (see 5. Operation). When the charger O is disconnected from the mains, the charging plug N must also be removed from the charging socket C as otherwise the Accu will discharge itself via the charger. If the Accu is unused for a relatively long period, it must be charged up at least once every six months to maintain its full performance and to protect the Accu from damage. If the Accu is completely flat, e.g. due to too long storage without any recharge, it will get its full efficiency again after several charging cycles. 1. Open both catches 7 on the Accu cover and open up the Accu cover 8. 2. Release retaining strap 0 and take Accu-Pack 9 out of the mower.
Charging the Accu when not in the mower :
3. Insert charging plug N of the charger in the charging socket C. 4. Insert the mains plug of the charger in a mains power socket.
