1. Secure Accu

2. Close Accu cover
D with the retaining strap F. C.

4. Function

Mowing correctly :
To produce a well-maintained lawn we recommend cutting the lawn one a week if possible. The lawn becomes thicker if cut frequently. Relatively long cut grass (> 1 cm) must be removed so that the lawn does not become yellow and matted. 14
After relatively long intervals between mowing (holiday lawn), up to max. 12 cm, first of all cut in one direction with the cutting height as high as possible, then cut in the crosswise direction at the cutting height required. If possible, only cut the grass when it is dry, if the grass is damp, the cutting pattern will be uneven. The area of lawn you can mow with one charged accu depends on the height and thickness of the lawn, i.e. the taller and thicker the lawn, the smaller the area of lawn you can mow with one fully charged Accu.

5. Operation

Starting the cylinder mower :
Risk of injury if the cylinder mower does not switch off automatically ! V Do not remove or bypass safety devices on the cylinder mower (e.g. by tying the starting handle to the upper part of the upright) !
Charge display : green LED Accu fully charged yellow LED Accu halfcharged red LED Accu flat
Danger ! Blade cylinder continues to turn after switching off ! V Never lift, tilt or carry the cylinder mower with the motor running ! V Never start the mower on a paved surface (e. g. asphalt). V Always maintain the safety distance between the blade cylinder and the user set by the guide handle.
1. Stand the cylinder mower on a level part of the lawn. 2. Insert the key G into the charging socket H. 3. Keep safety interlock B pressed down and pull the starting handle I on the upper handle 9. The cylinder mower starts and the charge display lights up for 10 seconds. 4. Release starter safety lock B.
If the red LED (Accu flat) goes on, the Accu must be charged.
The Accu cover must always be kept closed during mowing. The Accu becomes warm when using the cylinder mower. This is normal and does not impair its performance. Blockage protection : If the cylinder mower is blocked by a foreign body or the motor is overloaded (red Error-LED lights up), the motor is automatically switched off by the blockage protection (loud rattling). Remove key from socket, remove foreign body or rectify the cause of the overloading and restart the mower after a few seconds. Circuit Breaker : If the Cordless Motor Mower is overloaded over a longer period of time the motor may become hot (Red Error-LED flashes). To protect the motor from overheating the circuit breaker switches the motor off. You can switch the mower on again after approximately 5 -10 minutes. Discharge protection : The mower switches off automatically as soon as the capacity of the Accu has been exhausted (discharge protection). We recommend recharging the battery straight away. 15
Note : The accu cylinder mower can be operated with the Accu or without as a hand mower.
Switching off the cylinder mower :

The key prevents the cylinder mower being switched on accidentally. 1. Release starting handle I. 2. Remove the safety key each time you stop work.
Adjusting the cutting height:
DANGER ! Cutting tool can cause injuries ! V When adjusting the cutting height, remove the key and wear suitable work gloves.
The cutting height can be set to any position between 12 mm and 42 mm. 1. Stand behind the cylinder mower with one foot on the roller J. 2. Slacken the two locking screws K and set to the height required on the scale L. 3. Tighten the two locking screws K on both sides to the same height.
The locking screws both sides.
K must always be set to the same height on
The mower may only be adjusted to a depth in which the lower blade does not touch the ground when it is uneven.
Mowing with the grass collection sack (accessories) :
v Suspend the grass collection sack in the cylinder mower as described in the Operating Instructions.

5. Putting into Storage

Storage :
1. Remove safety key. 2. Clean mower before storage and connect to the charger (see 5. Maintenance). 3. Store mower in a dry, frostproof but cool place out of reach of children. To save space, the cylinder mower can be folded up by folding the clamping lever. Ensure the cable is not trapped during this process. If the mower is not stored connected constantly to the charger, the Accu must be charged at least every six months because it selfdischarges. Self-discharging is reduced at low storage temperatures. If the Accu is completely flat, e.g. due to too long storage without any recharge, it will get its full efficiency again after several charging cycles.

Disposal :

(in accordance with RL 2002 / 96 / EC)
The product must not be added to normal household waste. It must be disposed of properly.

Disposing of the Accu :

The Accu contains lead cells. After their lifetime have expired, they may not be disposed of as normal house rubbish, but must be disposed of properly. Please dispose of the flat Accu via the municipal disposal point.

7. Maintenance

Cleaning the mower :
DANGER ! Cutting tool can cause injuries ! V When undertaking maintenance, remove the key and wear suitable work gloves. Warning ! Damage to Accu cylinder mower. V Never clean your cylinder mower with running water, in particular with water under high pressure.
Deposits affect the cutting result as well as discharge of grass clippings. Residual dirt and grass is easily removed immediately after mowing. 1. Remove grass deposits with a brush and a cloth. 2. Oil the red cutting mechanism lightly with low viscosity oil (e.g. sprayed oil).

Charge Accu :

We recommed charging the Accu with the charger supplied, immediately after mowing with the cylinder mower and leaving it connected to the charger (the Accu cannot be over-charged). Do not wait to charge until the Accu is completely flat

1. Remove safety key

G from the charging socket H. 2. Insert mains plug of the charger M in a mains socket.

The red LED goes on.

3. Insert charging plug socket H.
N of the charger into the charging
4. When the green LED of the charger goes on, the Accu is fully charged. (This can take up to 24 hours if the Accu is flat).
G N M 8. Troubleshooting / Service
DANGER ! Cutting tool can cause injuries ! V When rectifying faults remove the key and wear suitable work gloves. When the charger M is disconnected from the mains, the charging plug N must also be removed from the charging socket H as otherwise the Accu will discharge itself via the charger.
Problem Abnormal noise. Clattering in the mower
Possible cause Screws / components loose. Foreign bodies on the blade. Notch in the blade.
Remedy v Tighten screws or send to GARDENA Service. v Remove foreign bodies. v Remove notches with grindstone. v Adjust cutting mechanism. v Insert the key into the socket. v Wait approx. 5 -10 minutes then turn on the mower again. v Open the cover and push the tab receptacle onto the tab. v Charge Accu. 1. Switch off mower, 2. Remove key. 3. Remove foreign body. v Reduce mowing speed and / or raise cutting height. Lawn too long.

Readjusting the cutting mechanism :
The cutting gear of your lawn mower was optimally adjusted before leaving our company. If, after longer use, a clean cut of the grass is no longer possible or the blade roller contacts the lower blade, then the lower blade should be adjusted as follows:

1. Unhook upright and clean cylinder mower. 2. Check cylinder O and lower blade P for notches and remove these with a grindstone if necessary.

O R Q P

3. Unscrew internal hexagon screws Q with an internal hexagon wrench (5 mm) anticlockwise until the cylinder O turns freely.
5. Tighten left internal hexagon screw Q with an internal hexagon wrench (5 mm) until the feeler gauge R is held gently. 6. Continue turning the cylinder until the blade O, already adjusted on the left side, is exactly above the lower blade on the right side.
7. Tighten the right internal hexagon screw Q with an internal hexagon wrench (5 mm) until the feeler gauge R is held gently. 8. Rotate cylinder O. If a banging noise is produced during this, open up the internal hexagon screw Q slightly on the side affected. When the cylinder and the lower blade can hardly be heard touching each other, the cutting mechanism has been adjusted correctly. 9. Cutting test: Place a strip of paper S in such a way on the lower blade that it points towards the spindle of the cylinder O. 10. Turn cylinder O carefully. If the lower blade is set correctly as if with scissors.
P the paper will be cut off O.
11. Repeat the cutting test on the other blades

Changing Accu :

If the Accu capacity is completely exhausted or if the Accu can no longer be recharged it must be exchanged. New Accus are available directly from GARDENA Service. 1. Press Accu cover C lightly at the front and open up and release the tensioning belt F. 2. Pull flat plug E backwards (not by the cable) and disconnect it from the battery connections (see adhesive label on Accu). 3. Remove Accu
D from the Accu-compartment.
4. Dispose of old Accu (see 7. Putting into Storage). 5. Fit new Accu (see 3. Assembly).

Repairs :

On safety grounds, only original GARDENA spares may be used.
Please contact GARDENA Service if it is necessary to replace the cutting tool, which will only become blunt after several years use if well-maintained. 19
4. Push the feeler gauge supplied (thin strip of metal) R between one blade O on the cylinder and the lower blade
Have the cylinder mower checked over in the autumn if possible so that it is ready for use immediately when the next lawn-mowing season starts. If you have any problem with your cylinder mower, please contact our Customer Service.

The cutting height can be set to any position between 12 mm and 42 mm. 1. Slacken the two locking screws H and set to the height required on the scale I. 2. Tighten the two locking screws H on both sides to the same height. The locking screws H must always be set to the same height on both sides.
Mowing with the grass collection sack (accessories) :
The mower may only be adjusted to a depth in which the lower blade does not touch the ground when it is uneven. v Suspend the grass collection sack in the cylinder mower as described in the Operating Instructions for the grass collection sack.

6. Putting into Storage

Storage :
1. Switch off the lawnmower and pull out the extension cable. 2. Clean mower before storage (see 7. Maintenance). 3. Store mower in a dry, frostproof but cool place out of reach of children. To save space, the cylinder mower can be folded up by folding the clamping lever.

Disposal :

(in accordance with RL 2002 / 96 / EC)
The product must not be added to normal household waste. It must be disposed of properly.

DANGER ! Cutting tool can cause injuries ! V When adjusting the cutting height, wait until the blade cylinder is stationary, put on suitable working gloves and unplug from the mains.

Cleaning the mower :

Deposits affect the cutting result as well as discharge of grass clippings. Residual dirt and grass is easily removed immediately after mowing. 1. Remove grass deposits with a brush and a cloth. 2. Oil the red cutting mechanism lightly with thin oil (e.g. sprayed oil).
8. Troubleshooting / Service
DANGER! Cutting tool can cause injuries! V Before rectifying faults, wait for the cutting tool to stop, wear suitable work gloves and pull out the mains plug. Problem Abnormal noise. Clattering in the mower Possible cause Screws / components loose. Foreign bodies on the blade. Notch in the blade. Blades are striking each other too hard. Motor will not start Power cable faulty. Fuse / fault current circuit-breaker has responded. Extension cable may not have a large enough cross-section. Circuit breaker has been triggered. Motor jams and is noisy Blocked by foreign body. Blocking protection activated. Remedy v Tighten screws or send to GARDENA Service. v Remove foreign bodies. v Remove notches with grindstone. v Adjust cutting mechanism. v Unplug from mains and check power cable. Check power cable and replace fuse / switch fault current circuit breaker on again. v Use extension cable with cross-section complying with table (2. Safety references). v Wait approx. 5 -10 minutes then turn on the mower again. 1. Release starting handle. 2. Unplug mains plug at the socket. 3. Remove foreign body. v Reduce mowing speed and / or raise cutting height. Let the motor cool for 5 -10 minutes, then use the mower with a higher cutting height and reduce the cutting height and the mowing speed in stages. v Have cutting tool checked by an authorised specialist dealer or GARDENAService. v Clean blade.

Cutting load too high. Motor turns off The cutting height you have selected is too low; Circuit breaker has been activated. Cutting tool damaged.
Runs unevenly, mower vibrates significantly

Blade very dirty. 16

Problem Lawn cut unevenly
Possible cause Blade set incorrectly. Cutting mechanism blunt.
Remedy v Adjust cutting mechanism. Recommendation: v Have cutting mechanism reground or replaced by GARDENA Service. v See 4. Function Mowing Tips.

Lawn too long / too wet.

Adjusting the cutting mechanism :
The cutting gear of your lawn mower was optimally adjusted before leaving our company. If, after longer use, a clean cut of the grass is no longer possible or the blade roller contacts the lower blade, then the lower blade should be adjusted. 1. Remove the plug from the mains socket. 2. Check cylinder J and lower blade K for notches and remove these with a grindstone if necessary.

3. Unscrew internal hexagon screws L with an internal hexagon wrench (5 mm) anticlockwise until the cylinder J turns freely. 4. Push the feeler gauge supplied (thin strip of metal) M on the left side between one blade J on the cylinder and the lower blade K. 5. Tighten left internal hexagon screw L with an internal hexagon wrench (5 mm) until the feeler gauge M is held gently. 6. Continue turning the cylinder until the blade J, already adjusted on the left side, is exactly above the lower blade on the right side.
7. Tighten the right internal hexagon screw L with an internal hexagon wrench (5 mm) until the feeler gauge M is held gently. 8. Rotate cylinder J. If a banging noise is produced during this, open up the internal hexagon screw L slightly on the side affected. When the cylinder and the lower blade can hardly be heard touching each other, the cutting mechanism has been adjusted correctly. 9. Cutting test: Place a strip of paper N in such a way on the lower blade that it points towards the spindle of the cylinder J. 10. Turn cylinder J carefully. If the lower blade is set correctly as if with scissors.
