Please read these operating instructions carefully and observe the notes given. Use the instructions to familiarise yourself with the equipment, the operating controls, their correct use, and the notes on safety. For safety reasons, children under 16 as well as persons not familiar with these operating instructions should not use this Hedge Trimmer. Keep these operating instructions in a safe place.

Please note by using your Electric Hedge Trimmer following principle safety hints in order to avoid electric shock, injury and fire risk:
Inspections before each use
Inspect the unit before each use. Do not use the Hedge Trimmer, if safety devices (two-hand switch, blade stop, impact protection) and / or the blades are damaged or worn. Never bypass safety devices. Inspect the area to be cut before and during work. Remove any foreign objects. If, in spite of care, there is an obstruction when cutting, turn off the Hedge Trimmer and remove it. This Hedge Trimmer can cause serious injuries! Use the unit only for the purposes specified in these operating instructions.

Where to Use Your Hedge Trimmer
Intended purpose Compliance with the operating instructions
The GARDENA Hedge Trimmers are designed for cutting hedges in domestic gardens and allotments. Compliance with the instructions provided by the manufacturer is a prerequisite for using the tool correctly. The operating instructions also include the conditions for operation, repair and maintenance.
Do not overload the Hedge Trimmer Keep the guide-handle dry Concentrate and work with care
Do not overload the Hedge Trimmer to work better and safer do not exceed the given power consumption. Keep the guide-handle dry and free from oil and grease.

Attention

A Attention! Because of the danger of physical injuries, this tool must not be used for cutting lawns / grass verges, or for cutting in the sense of shredding for composting.
Concentrate and work with care. You are responsible for safety in the area of work. Keep the area of work tidy. Untidiness in the area of work can cause accidents. Make sure that there are no other people (especially children) or animals anywhere near the working area. Do not wear loose clothes, jewellery, etc. They could get caught in the trimmer. Wear non-slip shoes, gloves and an eye protection. Wear long trousers to protect your legs. Ensure you have a secure foothold during operation of the machine, especially when using steps. The extension cable should always be kept away from the cutting area. Attention! Take extra care when walking backwards. You may stumble. Keep the motor casing and ventilation free from obstructions, leaves and other similar things. Do not use the Hedge Trimmer in the vicinity of flammable liquids and gases.
Summary of Operating Instructions for Your Hedge Trimmer
Attach the guide handle. Set the appropriate working position and use the cable lock. Plug the mains plug into the socket. Hold the guide handle in one hand and with the other hand turn the turning switch to the left or right as far as it will go and begin cutting.

Attaching the Guide Handle
Position the guide handle on the unit and secure in place with the two Phillips screws. (The screws are integrated in the drilled holes of the handle and cannot be lost.)

Jammed blades turn off the Hedge Trimmer Visibility
If the blades get jammed, please disconnect the unit and remove the object (thick branch, foreign body).
Only work when visibility is good. 11

If you stop working

Never leave the Hedge Trimmer unattended in the working place. If you stop work, store the Hedge Trimmer in a safe place. Disconnect the mains plug! Should you stop work in order to get to another working place, always switch off the Hedge Trimmer to go there. Disconnect the mains plug ! Always attach the blade protection for transport and storage of the unit. Possible working positions Swivel handle down for cutting high hedges Swivel handle up for cutting low hedges
Familiarise yourself with the surroundings Never use in rain or damp / wet areas Electrical safety check for damage
Make yourself familiar with the surroundings and look out for dangers which you may not detect due to machinery noise. Never use the unit when it rains or in damp / wet areas. Do not operate the Hedge Trimmer near swimming pools and garden ponds. Check the power cable regularly for damage and signs of wear and tear. The power cable must only be exchanged by an authorised electrician. Please contact your GARDENA Service Centre. The Hedge Trimmer must only be operated with an undamaged electrical cable. If the mains- or extension cable is damaged, disconnect the mains plug immediately. The socket of an extension cable should be waterproof. or sideways cutting

Mains cable

Initial Operation
Cable lock / Extension Cable Make part of the extension cable into a loop and clip into the cable lock. prevents the cables being unplugged by accident. Then: Connect the mains and extension cables.

Only use permitted extension cables. Ask your electrician. For portable units which are used outdoors, we recommend to use a residual-current device having a residual-current rating
In For Switzerlandof a residual-current device is obligatory. Switzerland use Never carry thethe Hedge Never carry Hedge Trimmer by its cable. Never use the cable to pullby its cable plug out of the mains socket. Trimmer the connector Protect the cable from heat, oil and sharp edges.

Two-hand safety switch

The Hedge Trimmer is fitted with a two-hand safety switch to prevent the tool being turned on by accident. To start the Hedge Trimmer, simultaneously press a start button on the guide handle and turn the turning switch to either the left or right. Hold the guide handle with one hand and press one of the three start buttons. With your other hand, hold the swivel handle and move the switch to the left or right as far as it will go and hold in this position. Preferable turning direction : towards you. the Hedge Trimmer starts moving.

set the working position you must first unplug the mains plug from the socket! Danger of injury!.Leave the blade cover on the blade.
The handle can be adjusted to 11 different working positions (in 12 steps, total range 120).

Stopping the Hedge Trimmer
To stop the Hedge Trimmer, simply release one of the start buttons or the turning switch. In accordance with safety regulations, an additional safety device ensures that the blade motion stops within 1 sec.
and hold down the black studded button until you have moved the swivel handle up or down to a position which is comfortable for you. the button and ensure the handle locks into place.

Impact protection
The projecting guide (impact protection) prevents any kick-back if the hedge trimmer hits a solid object.

Complaints / repairs
If you have any problems with your Hedge Trimmer, please contact our Service or return the defective unit together with a short description of the problem in case of guarantee, with the warranty card duly completed and signed postage paid to one of the GARDENA Service Centres listed on the back of this leaflet. We expressly point out that, in accordance with the product liability law, we are not liable for any damage caused by our units if it is due to improper repair or if parts exchanged are not original GARDENA parts or parts approved by us, and, if the repairs were not carried out by a GARDENA Service Centre or an authorised specialist. The same applies to spare parts and accessories.
Safety Clutch (Slip-Clutch)
The safety clutch protects motor, gear and blades from mechanical damage caused by the blades jamming. If the blades are jammed by an object : disconnect the trimmer from the power supply and remove the object.

Product liability

Safety devices
The safety devices installed by the manufacturer must not be removed and / or bypassed, e.g. by tying down a switch in the handle. Never use a tool which is not complete or which has been modified from its original design. To prevent the Hedge Trimmer starting by accident, never carry the Hedge Trimmer by the start buttons on the guide handle.

Notes on Care

Always disconnect the Hedge Trimmer before performing any repairs, inspection or maintenance work. Repairs must only be carried out by GARDENA Service Centres, or dealers authorised by GARDENA.

Cleaning the blades

The Hedge Trimmer blades should be cleaned after each use and lubricated with an oil of low viscosity (e.g. spray-oil). Note : 1. Do not clean your Hedge Trimmer with water ( risk of corrosion). 2. Never clean your Hedge Trimmer under running water.

Storage

Store your Hedge Trimmer in a dry place away from frost and put on the blade protection.

Damage

The safety clutch is a strong spring-loaded device and must not be disassembled. Inspect the cutting devices at regular intervals for damage. Ensure that all damage is properly repaired immediately. Warning! Read instruction handbook! Do not use in rain or wet conditions! If cable is damaged pull the plug from the mains before examining!

Guarantee

GARDENA guarantees this product for 3 years (from date of purchase). This guarantee covers all serious defects of the unit that can be proved to be material or manufacturing faults. Under warranty we will either replace the unit or repair it free of charge if the following conditions apply:
unit must have been handled properly and in keeping with the requirements of the operating instructions. Neither the purchaser or a non-authorised third party have attempted to repair the unit.
This manufacturers guarantee does not affect the users existing warranty claims against the dealer / seller. In the event of a fault, please send the defective unit together with the receipt and a description of the fault, postage paid, to one of the GARDENA Service Centres on the back of this leaflet.
Parts subject to wear (e.g. blade) are excluded from this guarantee.
